Car Bomb at Police Station, Man Arrested

On May 2nd, a 66-year-old man faces serious charges after a car bomb went off outside a police station in Dunmory near Belfast.

He got arrested Tuesday in the Dunmory area under the Terrorism Act.

Charges include attempted murder, possessing explosives to endanger lives, causing an explosion that could harm people or property,

hadia, holding items for, terrorism, and hijacking. It all started last Saturday when a delivery driver got hijacked in the twin-brook area of West Belfast.

The attackers stuck a device in his van and made him drive it straight to the police station.

The bomb exploded right as folks were getting evacuated from the area.

No one got hurt, but he hit close to home, literally, in a busy neighborhood packed with family houses.

Police had to rush residents to safety, including two babies, pulling them out when the blast happened.

Cops think this ties to the new IRA, a dissident Republican group that rejects the Good Friday agreement from 1998. The deal that mostly ended the troubles.

These splinter groups broke off from bigger outfits, like the provisional IRA over the years, and still pop off with bombs and mortars now and then.

This comes just weeks after a similar hit at Lergen Police Station.

The guys do and Lisbon magistrates court this Saturday, and the public prosecution service will double-check all the charges.

Police are still digging into any links to these hold-out crews.
