Cardinals Face Heavy Dead Cap Hit, $174M in 2027

The Arizona Cardinals are set to rank fifth in the NFL for dead cap space in 2026 after

officially releasing quarterback Kyler Murray.

Starting June 2nd, they'll carry $73 million in dead money, mostly from Murray's $46.5

million hit this year.

That puts them behind teams like the Dolphins at $179 million, Saints at $113 million,

Jets at $111 million, and Browns at $91 million.

The team shows a post-June first cut on Murray, which saves them about $5 million in cap space

this offseason compared to an earlier.

Release.

It does mean carrying an extra $7 million into 2027, but it clears more off the books

long term.

Fans and analysts are buzzing about the financial hit, especially since Murray quickly

signed a cheap one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Cardinals are still paying most of his bill, highlighting the risks of big quarterback

contracts.

Adding to their dead cap are players like Jonah Williams at $7 million, Dalvin Tomlinson

at $6.8 million, and several others totaling.

Around $25 million more.

Despite this, projections show $174 million in cap space for 2027.

Right now, Arizona sits fourth-league-wide in current cap space and has 76 players signed,

leaving room to build.

With extensions eyed for guys like Paris, Johnson, Jr., they're positioning for a flexible

future.
