First, we'll start off with the Big Ten tournament loss to Purdue.

What it means going forward.

And then we'll look at the contenders in the Midwest bracket, do a little analysis there.

And then finally, some football with some comments made by some defensive players that

I think are a little tantalizing and per usual, I don't have everything ready as I needed

it to.

So that's fun.

It's exciting.

I'm really happy with that.

Here we go.

So Michigan loses by eight to Purdue credit, massive credit to Purdue, who I think just

ultimately outplayed Michigan, obviously Thai game at the half, but like Michigan kind

of didn't really deserve to even have the game tied in a lot of ways, just like they

just were really, I mean, the first half was kind of fine.

The second half was a bit of a disaster, right?

Like even when they held Purdue, like I think two relatively long scoreless streaks after

they were shooting literally 90% from floor, like it was like shocking to I think it was

like around like the 15 minute mark.

I go and I look and we use something called stat broadcast.

I go and I look in the second half, like what's their shooting and they're shooting like

between 80 and 90% and Michigan shooting like 25% like well, of course, things were getting

away from them.

But even then like the game was an out of hand, but at the same time, they they could not

like the defense number one defense in the country, still on Kenpahm after all said

and done still could not stop a tray, cough, been ran from getting 20 Oscar club who probably

should have filed out well before he did 21 he never did follow out actually, but I'm just

saying like you should have a benter who also was kind of right there had a couple big

shots.

But still, um, and they just they just managed to kind of scuff things up now, obviously

we didn't talk about any of the prior games Wisconsin and Ohio State in the two previous

days, but Michigan played with its food all weekend long.

And in every game to some degree, there was a moment where it felt like, okay, here it

comes, here comes the piling on that we're used to and it just never came.

So that I think it's it's been a series of cautionary tales this weekend, which can pay

dividends so long as Michigan can get back into the groove, which it should because it's

as the one seed, it's going to be playing against teams that are going to be overmatched

at least in the first round, probably the second as well.

So with that, yeah, you like just get back in, you know, maybe even the third this

sweet 16 if everything goes to plan, but Michigan can't play the way it had all weekend

and expect to make a deep run in this tournament, which is not what you want to see or hear

ultimately from the number three team in the country.

So Yaxel was mostly incredible, really good, defensively as usual.

Now has a low ankle sprain, but he says he's fine.

He was great.

Mara eventually was great again, kind of just it doesn't exist in the first half happened

a couple of times this weekend where it happened a little bit in the right late regular season

two where Mara is just you just, he's got like two points at half time or no points at

half time.

And then eventually like you look up and oh, yeah, he's he's right up there with the team

leaders.

Yaxel led with 20 Mara had 14, and Mara Bernat came alive in this one a little bit would

have liked to have seen even a little bit more from him because he hit the two threes

to start the game.

And then just was kind of quiet eventually, I mean, those were the only threes he hit had

some some big shots that were made and whatever.

But yeah, otherwise like Michigan's bench was okay.

Right now it's only three deep, but two points from Roddy Gale, six points from Tray McKenny,

none from Will Shatter.

Like they're going to need these guys to step up more because this is a thing.

They're going to start seeing some depth come the tournament and we're accustomed to seeing

Michigan being able to do a lot of different things that it just wasn't able to do in this

game.

McKenny only having six points is disappointing to for eight, no three pointers.

Yaxel hit four of the seven attempts.

He was the one and then LA, it could go hit one and Mara Bernat hit the two.

That's it for the three pointers, right?

They were 29% from three.

If they're going to be hoisting up threes, I need a little bit better and a little bit

more than what they were able to get.

Now it was the same thing for Purdue, but the Purdue didn't need to get the threes because

they were they were so aggressive down low.

They were able to just kind of just continue to score, right?

They went on something.

I think it was a 17 to run at one point.

Michigan did a really good job of coming back, bringing it up within five, but at the same

time, I mean, that just that wasn't going to they just weren't going to win the game

at that point.

It was pretty obvious, I think, to me at half time, like what we were going to see in

the next, like the first couple minutes of that second half was going to tell us what

we needed to know about, you know, if they were going to have that double banner and it

just didn't work out that way, right?

Like they scored kind of like pretty much out the gates, I think it was Mara.

And after that, you know, they they went and had a little bit of a struggle session and

that's not ideal.

So they got out shot.

They mostly, I mean, they didn't get out rebounded.

They had more turnovers.

They did a fine job of not training them all over a ton.

They had seven, but Purdue only had two and you're used to seeing Michigan having a lot

more steals and things of that nature and they they just didn't Purdue had more blocks.

That's something that you just generally don't see as the other team having more blocks.

And those things ended up being those little things that made a difference in this game.

So it's disappointing credits for do their fans, some of the ones that I see on Twitter.

It's funny because they're just they're obnoxious.

But at the same time, like I'm happy for them and ultimately winning this game, it would

have been good.

Does it matter in the grand scheme of what Michigan's trying to do?

No, it doesn't.

So get the cautionary tale, right?

Like you got the revenge against Wisconsin, you're the only big 10 team in a in the period

of 18 big 10 teams to have beaten all 17 other ones.

Now you have losses to two other ones, but now you're going to be in the big dance.

Everything's going to change.

And for Michigan, they're going to need to figure it out and they've got, they've got

four days to do so before they get to, you know, before they tip off at seven 10 p.m.

And Buffalo.

So exciting.

Still anyhow, we're going to move on.

I want to get to some some of the bracket, not the whole thing, not the whole Midwest region,

but just kind of going through who the opponents may or may not may not who are they're likely

to be if Michigan gets to go through as it should.

And just discuss where they kind of stand.

We'll do that here in just a moment.

So I got to share some ridiculousness about me today I was supposed to go get a haircut

today.

And so I was like, okay, I'm going to run a couple of errands beforehand.

So air cuts at 12 30.

It's noon.

I'm like, okay, I'm ready to go.

I put on my coat, I go to head out the door.

I'm like, no, you know what?

Switch coats real quick.

And this one doesn't match this.

Just wearing like a sweatshirt.

I was like, really dressy coat.

So I switched to this to a different coat real quick and I go and I'm like, okay, where

are my keys?

And I can't find them.

I go search the coat that I had on I can't find them and I just I spent an hour and

a half to not only tell you about the house, I had to I had to go into my trash bin and

rebag my trash.

And I'm like, that I actually throw them away couldn't find them anywhere.

I'm like, I haven't left the house because I didn't and I'm going to church yesterday.

I didn't leave the house.

The last time I left the house was Friday night and there's ran a quick errand.

Otherwise, I've been home.

It took me 90 minutes before I found them which they were in the coat that I had to begin

with.

90 minutes.

So absurd.

I had a headache after that, which I mean, I've had headaches for the last like three

weeks, not the last week, but well, last half of a week.

But after all that was like, oh, man, anyway, all right.

So Michigan's bracket is out.

Some complain about it.

Some say it's it's a good one.

I think it's I think it's fine, right?

Like I don't think it's like crazy hard.

I don't think it's like I like Iowa state being the second, the two rather than some of

the other teams that could have been there.

Like that's still a very difficult two-seed, but you know, from I just, you know, them

in Texas Tech.

There's a couple of teams on there that are a little bit dangerous.

Alabama.

We'll talk about all of them.

But Michigan comes in with a 31 and three record with a Ken PomRank of three overall.

Certainly lost a bit of the luster late in the season, which you don't want.

You don't like.

You want to be peaking at the right time.

And nonetheless, is that one point they had the high, you know, they basically were

beyond Ken PomRankings, like just like basically a pro team and things have kind of fallen

off a little bit.

Number eight offense rank, number one defense rank.

So still like generally elite and that's better than I think you're going to see the with

the exception of Alabama, like that there's no other teams on this on that that are potentially

on the docket that are as good as Michigan in any facet.

Now some of them have good defenses, Alabama's got the third offense.

Iowa State has the fourth defense Tennessee has the also has the fourth defense.

I must have copied that wrong.

One of them has something I'm going to have to go to Ken Pom and figure out where I where

I messed up here.

Iowa State is the one with the fourth defense Tennessee is 37 and 15.

Let's change that here in my thing so that I can actually say that so hold on there we

go.

Okay.

But up first Michigan's going to face either you UMBC with a 24 and eight record or Howard

with a 23 and 10 UMBC is ranked 185th in Ken Tom with 183rd offense and one 92nd defense

Howard is 207 overall 283 offense 117 defense.

If Michigan can't win that game that first game by 50, then something is really wrong.

We're going to we're going to know pretty quickly.

This should be one of those games that should look a lot like that first game of the season

where Michigan just I even remember who it was I was there, but I don't remember even

who they played in the season opener, but they should be able to run them off the court.

So we're not going to spend much time on that, but just that that should be a game.

And again, I don't I don't know much about the lineups and things of that nature.

But we're just kind of going through the the Ken Pom right now.

I think that's the easiest way to go.

Get past that first round, get to the round of 32 Michigan will play either Georgia with

a 22 and 10 record or St. Louis with a 28 and five, obviously Georgia's played against

fiercer competition than St. Louis, but those are the eight and nine seeds.

That would be the next step.

Georgia's got an overall Ken Pom rank of 32 St. Louis is 41 offensively Georgia is better

than it is defensively it's 16th and defensively it's 80th St. Louis is a little bit more

even keeled 51st ranked offense 40 second ranked defense.

So I mean, either way you look at it, those are the types of teams like that's like now Michigan

play like we said plays down to its competition sometimes.

We've seen that kind of in the last two months earlier in the year.

It wasn't doing that.

It was just blowing everybody out aside from the first month.

So they're going to need number one, the axel to step up and be dominant, not passive.

Number two, you need to get a dimara going early.

Number three, you need more res Johnson not to have the debacle of a game he just had yet

eight points, but it was just not great.

You know, like they just need the guys that normally like show up to show up, especially

to make up for the chances that Elliott could know and or Neymari Burnett don't end up

doing much, which is more likely than not in some of these games.

Maybe not these ones, but ultimately like they should be able to get to the sweet 16.

I don't want to say no problem, but pretty close.

So sweet 16.

I didn't include all the teams I could be there.

I included the two that I think they're most likely to see you, which are either Alabama

who just their second highest score just got arrested for having a pound of weed.

So you know, that might change their number three offense with their ranked 18th and Ken

Palm overall and have the third offense, 67 defense.

So that's it.

It's a game where Michigan should be able to score and the defense is going to have to come

up strong, but it might be a little bit easier than that.

But we'll see because you know, they've got to get past the Texas Tech team.

That's also pretty good.

It's gotten a lot of accolades throughout the season.

They're also 22 and 10, much like Georgia, Ken Palm rank of 20th overall offense, rank

of 12 and defense, rank of 33.

And also they've got Christian Anderson.

That would be interesting.

See Christian Anderson back in playing against the team he had been long, long committed

to.

Man, I just remember I used to get DMs from him at least once a week.

It's like brother, I barely cover basketball and I'm just getting DMs from him like constantly.

So good kid.

I know some of my colleagues weren't as high on.

They thought he was going to be a bus and he turns out like he's looking like he's going

to be a first round draft pick.

So would have been nice to be able to keep him, but oh, last.

So that's going to that'll be a little bit more challenging again like Michigan.

If it plays how it's capable, I mean, if Michigan plays how it's capable, it will beat

every team on here.

But nonetheless, I mean, especially here too, I'm looking at it.

There's what three SEC four SEC teams on here and several like how many big 12 teams.

So you've got as far as SEC in this bracket, you've got Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky,

12.

You've got Texas check Iowa State and am I missing someone?

I feel like I'm missing someone, I guess not.

So anyway, they get past those teams, lead eight and we're going to the final four.

You're looking at Iowa State, who's the two C, they're 27 and seven.

So look, same record is Purdue ranked sixth in the country by a Ken Pomp.

So that's, that's not, you know, that's not an easy one to get past.

Of course, with the fourth ranked defense and 21st ranked offense.

So that's obviously the team you really don't want to face.

But then again, if you don't face them, it's probably because some one of the other teams

ended up just going nuts Virginia is your three seed in the in the bracket with the 13th

ranked team overall, 27th offense, 16th defense, Tennessee is, is 16th, 37th offense, 15th

defense, Kentucky is 21 and 13, 28th, like it'd be fun to see Kentucky and just get revenge

because it's just for the sake of having been ousted by Kentucky before, 28th overall

team, 21st defense, 4th ranked, nope, I did that wrong again, I clearly did not finish

all of my, my little things there from my article, because that's what I copied it over

from.

Whoops.

I went for a run right beforehand.

So that's not an excuse.

I'm just saying, Santa Clara is the 10 seed.

I don't think that they'll get this far.

But if there was the next two that I have here are the two, if they're going to be, they're

going to be in your Cinderella, they'll either be Santa Clara, 26 and eight, 35th overall

team.

And then Miami of Ohio is 31 and one.

There Ken Poms, 93rd team, but they've only lost one team, lost one time rather.

So Santa Clara, decent offense, 23rd in the country, neither team is anything to write

home about defensively.

So that's the, that's the bracket.

And I didn't include everybody because some of them are like, I do, I think Hofstra is

going to end up playing Michigan at any point.

I highly, highly doubt it.

But nonetheless, I think that there's a lot to like about, about this bracket, obviously

Iowa state is the danger team for Michigan.

Alabama could be a particular thorn in the side, especially if they're hot from, you

know, just they Michigan can't slow them down.

But without their second leading score, that even the, assuming he's out because he's

been arrested, that just evens the, evens everything out a little bit.

So it'll be interesting.

But I like the draw, ultimately, I think it's fine.

Michigan did move down one spot, according to the chairman.

And after losing to Purdue, which is stupid because Michigan didn't move up last year

after beating Wisconsin.

So I don't, I don't get it.

It is what it is.

All right.

All right, the the team show podcast.

I don't know what to call it, Chase Herb Streets show on YouTube.

There's been it's provided both just mindless entertainment

as well as a little bit of intel.

So he sat down on like before we was doing like activities,

which are more Browder and stuff like that.

This time he sat down with Jair Hill and Nathaniel Wusu Bo-Tang

and started asking about the defense

and after just kind of a bunch of general, what have you, I guess.

And I thought the quotes were kind of interesting.

So let's read them and then react.

So Nathaniel Wusu Bo-Tang says,

I would definitely say the defensive scheme that we have this year,

it's fast, it's physical guys just not thinking too much,

just shooting their gun.

A big thing that we saw from last year was obviously

we didn't get to where we wanted to last year.

But with this new coaching staff and with new players

and with who can help us get to where we want to,

I feel like everybody should be really excited

because I know I am.

Now Jair Hill says, I feel like one of the things

when the fans want to see more excitement,

we got more swag, more ball players.

So it's going to be a lot of big plays that's going to be made.

If they get the fans, they want to see more turnover buffs.

You just said buffs, I just put turnover there.

So we're going to get that to them for sure.

You know, put a little personality out there,

get them a little dance or something.

So spring ball starts tomorrow, by the way.

So there's that.

So like we haven't seen,

like basically what they've been able to do so far

is some seven on seven type of stuff.

A couple of things from this.

So we're not going to spend a ton of time on this

because we're already up against it.

But number one, playing fast within the scheme.

Now, Jair Hill had already said,

like it's going to take all the way till fall camp

to get everything installed.

So if they're already able to start playing fast,

that's going to be interesting.

But Jair's comments actually lend to something

that I think we need to be cognizant of,

because was it two years ago?

I think two years ago, maybe it was three,

but I think it was two.

BYU under Jail led the country in interceptions.

So that's kind of what Jair clearly is like alluding to.

And they were still like pretty good.

They were like in the top 20 this last year,

but wasn't quite as high as it was the year before.

So this could certainly, like clearly,

there's something with this scheme

that gets takeaways going.

So that is something I am really looking forward to seeing.

And it'll be interesting to see in the spring game.

Again, the spring game, it's going to be hard,

especially if they split squad things.

I hope they don't.

I hope it ends up being like team one versus team two

and team two versus team one, right?

Like that they have like that type of like,

okay, here's our depth chart type of deal.

And the number one offense goes against the number two defense

and number one defense goes against the number two offense.

That will give us a much better idea.

I think other than having to just look strictly at individuals,

because I think when you do the draft as they had

that kind of create some, you can sit there and say,

well, the offensive line doesn't look good

because one player who's not going to see the field,

like we talked last year.

I'm not trying to throw this guy under the bus,

but like Ben Robuck early in the game made a couple mistakes

and Bryce got called for the sack, right?

And people with a cool offensive lines terrible.

And it's like, well, I don't know

that I would say the offensive line is terrible

because the other guys upon rewatch did their job.

It was just the one guy and that's all it takes.

So I would rather see a scenario

where it's like the guys that we think we're going to get

as you're as a top the depth chart are playing all together

against maybe the next group.

And with that, like what I'll be curious to see,

especially if it's is the number one defense

against the number two offense.

How many takeaways they're able to get?

How fast do they actually look?

Usually defense is ahead of the offense.

I don't think that's going to be the case this year personally.

But still, like just like, I know this this point in time

you're going to have confidence

or at least speak confidently, I would imagine.

But still, like just the fact that they, you know,

a wussu boat saying comes out in the way he talked.

It just sounds very much like matter of fact.

Like we're going to be, you know, like we're going to play fast.

We're going to be heck of a lot better than we were before.

And jayers talk about the takeaways.

I mean, that's definitely something I want to see.

So anyway, that's going to do it for us today tomorrow.

It'll probably be a drive home episode is the plan.

We will be meeting with Kyle Wittingham tomorrow.

So we will have our spring game preview

talking about what Kyle Wittingham,

not spring game, but spring ball preview.

After everything that Wittingham says,

so we will get to that tomorrow, that'll, that'll be the plan.
