bet 365 and a couple of minutes ago. Megan Keller was anything but ordinary. Just
one goal to four team USA in overtime after they tied the game late one nothing
forever and ever and ever empty net USA ties it and then they win it in
overtime. What a game for the US women who have now beaten Canada eight straight
times and sucks to suck. Yeah. What a loser country. That's awesome. Like that
was it was it was not looking good in the first half but they they pulled it
together late in the game and a big play by Hillary Knight with the goal goal
he pulled to get the game tire. Most Olympic goals by US hockey player men's
periods. End of statement. Yes. For Hillary Knight, they're her 15th career Olympic
goal in her final Olympic game. Yeah. Probably I mean probably none bigger than
that one to send it to OT and then prior to Keller's game winner, which was a
beautiful play. I asked Chloe, what's the equivalent of get your jock out of
the rafters for a woman? You offered insight. What is the other jills? Oh,
jills. Yeah. There you go. Get your Jill out of the roster. Get out of the rafters.
I said sports bra. I was like the best. I didn't hit the I let her say we're a
couple we're a couple minutes. That's fine. We got delayed for the timer. Yeah.
The Abby Murphy is what you're. Yes. Awesome. Abby Murphy on the on the back
check to basically a two on oh she catches up to Darryl Watts who if you missed
yesterday's show week. Tough week. We mentioned tough week for her. But Abby
Murphy's coming back on the on the back check and she's in the center lane
between Watts who's carrying the puck ahead of her and then there is a I don't
know who was but it was another team Canada player. And Abby Murphy goes over the
back of Watts to the other side because Watts the left handed shot. So instead of
staying in the middle just to you know take away the pass or anything like that.
She makes the play to lift the stick. That was great play. Such a great play.
And I mean who knows Watts wasn't even able to get a shot off.
It was probably play play of OT besides the winner.
It was such a clean play and let's please identify Abby Murphy correctly as
Southside Irish Catholic Abby Murphy. Yeah. A product of Holy Redeemer and
Mother McCulley High School salute. Yeah. Kalen is at the watch party. Yes.
For for Abby Murphy. I assume there's at least eight is a wasky at that party.
My aunt has I'll send it to you Chloe. My aunt has a sign on her lawn. Yeah.
Because my aunt lives a block from Holy Redeemer and a block from
McCulley. She's right in between. So she's very proud of Abby Murphy and that
was what a play. That like it's those little things and we've seen it you know
when the Hawks are winning championships. Those little moments that
maybe aren't always the key goal or you know the puck going in. It's those
moments before that are so important and that looked like look on a three on
three. Canada gets an odd man rush and Abby Murphy just turns on the
jets and says absolutely not. Awesome. It doesn't take a penalty. Yeah.
And Abby's got a bit of a reputation. So maybe refs looking for a penalty
from her. Yeah. And she still makes the play just awesome to see what a
moment. Yeah. And then yeah Megan Keller scores
beautiful winner stretch pass from Eglie with Taylor.
Heisee a pass that would have been illegal in the NHL
about 30 years ago but yeah just a great stretch pass and then she makes the
outside in move goes backhand and Renee does be and gets
just a little bit of it but not enough to say when's gold.
You got to get more than that. Just awesome. Awesome. Hopefully
a tone setter. Yeah. For the and something for now now the men got a step up.
Men got to get to not only the gold medal game. She got to win.
Got to win it. Look man they can. They certainly they're going to have to find
some offense. They're going to have to find some firepower.
The defense has been good. The goal tenning's been good but you're going to have
the score to beat Canada and they've got to find a way. And look I will say
I have had a bit of a feeling about the men of like maybe playing with their
food a little bit for lack of a better concern but they cannot do that
against Slovakia. No. Slovakia is a pain in the ass. They are
going to fight you tooth and nail for 60 minutes.
Maybe 60 minutes plus because that seems to be the theme of these Olympics
and they've got to find it. I love the photo too of
Quinn Hughes just looming over the crowd looking haunted.
I get sent that one to you too Chloe. I sent the I sent the every one too but
yeah Quinn Hughes getting the the OT winner
was we watch that here in the office after the show ended yesterday.
Bitnervy. Bitnervy with Sweden getting it to get it to OT.
But yeah like you said like Team USA they have to be
a team that you know gets to this point gets to the gets to the metal round you
know that's that's the that's the bare minimum that
Team USA and the hockey program both for the men's and women's side.
Bare minimum is you have to compete for medals. So
the women get the golds are they're the gold standard obviously with winning gold.
So now the men you know they've they've they've had the four nations a lot of
people were like oh you know this could be the time for them to show
that they're the you know the big hockey country now in Canada
stepped up when they needed to and now you know you get to the Olympic
games you're down to the final four. You got to get past
Slovakia you cannot overlook them just because they're not Canada.
They're going to be a top that's going to be a tough team and if you get if you
do get past them then you've got a plucky finish team with
table terivine and leading the way or Canada and the gold medal.
Yeah we're getting to the point now where the US women
anything less and gold feels like a failure and I would say I
don't think the men are quite there yet but I think anything less and silver
feels like a failure at this point for them. I mean they're going to say that
they want gold. Of course they're going to but I think just from a
you know a non-emotional perspective
there because look with the men's game Sweden is right there usually
like we said Finland's air and we're starting to see Czechia and Slovakia
starting to really make some noise but I feel like anything short of silver at
this point is is a disappointment. I'm not going to be mad if they win
bronze but I think everyone top to bottom will look at that as a failure by
the men. So got to got to win tomorrow, get through to the gold medal game and
see what happens. The counterpart actually was asked about Finland
today and so you didn't really have much you know didn't have much to offer
about it but I guess Nick Flino said he's written for Tevo over Canada
and Bernard said I want Canada to win and I want Turbo to have a hat trick.
Yeah so very diplomatic. Yeah all the guys I
all the guys I asked about that I said if it comes down to you know when I was
talking to Oliver Moore I was just like US or Finland and gold if it happens who
you're going for and they all of them were just like I hope Tevo has
four points and USA wins five before. Yeah well yeah you got the pictures.
This is my aunt's lawn in Evergreen Park. She's count. Oh nice.
Go Abby sign. A lot of people in the neighborhood have that sign. Very
cool. That's fun. And then we have the ghost
the haunted Quinn Hughes. Just at the women's. That's at the women's
days just moving over the crowd protecting everyone from the
specters that fly around. I love that he's like professor Snape. Yeah in the
first Harry Potter movie where he's just blank staring and saying the
the spell. Yes to count spoiler alert to counteract. Yeah.
He who shall not be named the actual one not the woman not the one from this show.
Yes. That's funny. Yeah. That's funny. Hey two two people who have had
two two OT winners for for the US in consecutive days.
Um I think I'm in good health because I haven't had a heart attack.
Yeah good. So good job. It's good. I'm probably due for one but
not hockey related hopefully. Um look we we made our predictions for
the Olympics last week which feels like a month ago.
Uh I picked USA to win based on gold tending. That's big.
And look we like to laugh at Jordan Bennington but the dude has a way of
and I don't want to we're maybe getting ahead of ourselves here. We don't
want to jinx anything but man when when something's on the line.
Jordan Bennington is a different dude. Yeah he steps up and he is
starting to squash that narrative. I mean look he's going to cause he's
want to go all the areas when the formation is filling his diaper for the
blues. That's okay. But yeah when when you put that
Canada sweater on um it seems like a lot of narratives go out the window when
you put that Canada sweater on because Mitch Marner is clutch is ever
weird. We're in the the red maple leaf. It's like Mitch Marner doesn't suck.
Not the white maple leaf. Um we're and yeah Bennington has been uh you
know he's he's been great for for Canada um when it matters most he hasn't
been you know indefatigable but he's been
thank you. Good enough. He's been he's been good enough uh for them so yes
like it like I said like they got a tough matchup with Finland but would be
favored USA as a tough matchup with Slovakia but should be
favored um and anything is uh is possible. I'm hopeful for the US
that they that they don't leave it to the final moments um you want to see
them have one of those games that you can kind of plant your flag and say like
you know have the confidence level be uh as high as possible going into
you know if you if you get that semi-final win in you know uh
comfortable fashion you can go into the gold medal game feeling pretty good
about yourself feeling confident and that's I feel like that's what it comes
down to when it's this this stage of the Olympics because you hear from
the the US team after the game uh yesterday and a couple of guys were
just like that's the most nervous I've ever been
in a hockey game like these are guys that have played for Stanley Cups
yeah and Ben and you know play off game sevens and stuff
but an elimination game at the Olympics they're saying is like that's the most
keyed up they've been so yeah if you can go into a game
feeling confident and feeling like you know you you have uh you know you have
that in you um that's gonna make a huge difference. It's like one game seven
it's one game for all the stakes and I think part of it too I would imagine for
these guys is I've never been in Olympia not yet anyway um
that you you head to Milan Cortina and you're like
overwhelmed by the scale of it and how many athletes there are in how
everyone around you whatever sport they're in is spent their entire life to
get to this point so everyone is keyed up and everyone's nervous and everyone
is on edge. Hyper competition everywhere like think about these guys
you know they're they're they're at the Olympics
they'll practice but after practice they might go watch the gold medal of the
biathlon right they might go watch you know skiing or whatever watch the
women's team like and and you're just everywhere you go is just
competition and I have to imagine being at the Olympics is hard to
relax. Oh yeah because you're just surrounded by it. Well that probably is
why part of the reason why Canada the men's team left the Olympic
village and said no no no we're we're gonna stay in a nice hotel away from
everything else it could be part of it. Probably smart I I would I would not
like that if I was an Olympic athlete I would want the full experience but I
understand yeah the logic behind it and yes they we kind of joked about
the extra curriculars air quotes that happened at the Olympics
but everyone is so freaking stressed out that you need to find a way to get
to release that and I think you all not only do you have the stress out
athletes you also have the ones that are done
that are in that like state of euphoria of I just competed the Olympics now I'm
just here to enjoy it. So you have two there's two kind of athlete there
there's a completely high strong nervous beyond belief
and people that are on cloud nine that they just had the experience of a life
time and that's that atmosphere has to be or they're intoxicated or they're
really sad right yeah yeah yeah exactly that also
exactly yeah it's been it's I swallow the Olympics
winter Olympics more than summer Olympics oh yeah 100% just because
I'm I'm a January birthday so I like the winter
I like snowboarding and ice hockey and all that stuff
and there's only so many different ways of running I can watch on TV
for the summer Olympics which is feels like it's 90% of the events is just like
run this distance jump over this thing um but yeah the I just
it's why I love the winter game is like you get the hockey and then you get
everything else around it it's just unique stuff so
um a good point by Frank hockey fan in the chat says you never know
if or when you'll ever get another Olympic chance yeah
athletes confront their mortality which is rare yeah it's a really good
point it's true you never know when your last shot's going to be and uh
just a reminder as we speak about how Hillary night you got the game tying
goal if you want to go see her in person
PWHL takeover tour comes to Rosemont on March 25th
Seattle New York Hillary night place for Seattle so get your tickets go see a
hockey legend in Rosemont uh it's a lot of fun also got to mention black
cocks development coach Kendall Collins Gofield another uh
throwing on the pile another Olympic gold for her uh her mantle
and her elite prospects page yep we should see if uh so come on
that'd be really great she plays for Minnesota and the PWHL uh
so maybe when there's seasons over we can try and be great uh we had her on
the manhouse podcast back in the day and she was wonderful
and then uh actually spent a few minutes after our interview
talking to my daughter that's cool who was a young athlete at the time so
very cool when uh when when Kendall was just out of
college at northeastern and plain for team USA uh
she did an appearance at uh girls in the game
summer camp back in the day and my wife uh basically ran the summer camp
and so she got to meet her this was like
wow man like 15 14 15 years ago already um but yeah that was uh
that was always cool to to be like yeah my wife met her
all that time ago so yeah all right we're gonna hit the break zone for the
first time do us a favor hit that like button for us
every time you hit the like button it's a percentage chance at the
team USA will score a goal so do it hit it we'll be back in two
minutes on CHG old black box

all right we're back on CHGO black hawks thanks for hitting that like button for
us uh... eventful day at hawks practice a little bit ryan to not oh
mispractice uh... white is baby yeah baby watches the way to put it
momentarily if it's not happened already but it had not happened
when jeth flash will spoke and jason diginson
left practice with a bit of a tummy ache
uh... which is understandable things are going around these days sure is why
don't we hear from the black hawks head coach who spoke after practice a lots
of stuff about the intensity of practice the mindset going in here
uh... some power play tweaks some talk about physicality in front of the net
and more here's jeth flash will have to practice today
so jickinson uh... just ill
okay yeah i don't know i don't know yeah i honestly haven't
uh... talked uh...
the trinkets out there's just was told he left the ice
stomach issue and it wasn't coming back
not if it said his wife's due day was soon
yeah yeah no one knows the report though
how much i i guess younger guys feeling of being physical in the league and i know
the last you can talk about that specifically but
i guess we've left enough rinzil how much you balance them
trying to
i guess
get out of the comfort zone a little bit and you know what what's needed this
level
yeah i think you know i think
i would say
if you look at our decors a whole
we have size um... you know i think we have big bodies
i wouldn't say that they're necessarily like natural like hard hard
you know guys necessarily and so we just want to draw to them
the max of their physicality and the max of their hardness because that's an
important aspect of uh... being a good d in this league and i think we're
we're getting i think you know certainly vlast has shown that
i think already shown that uh... uh...
louis you know you go through the list uh... especially those guys now
i think rinzil's different like rinzil doesn't have the body yet to go
physically head-to-head with a ton of guys in the league so he's gonna have to
do with his brain you know and and um
in in how you kind of separate hands and things like that so there's different
techniques that uh... you know that i think he has learned i think he's still
gonna put muscle into his frame uh... and he'll continue to get bigger
and stronger but he's not quite there yet so you know but for the guys that are
the bigger bodies we definitely want to draw out that that uh...
highest level not just have compete because i don't want it to sound like
they're not highly competitive i think they are but the physicality side of it
powerplay practicing the no drop entry and the two drop
entry isn't just to have different look steves in different situations
yeah i think that's important um you know we kind of went through the first
part of the year with with basically one look
and i would say you know for a long time it did pretty good but like what
happens even in games if you're if you're struggling with that
then there's frustration at sets and i think when that frustration sets in
it's important to have a different look both for the ability to get in and two
to kind of fight through the frustration
you guys you do see players seemingly frustrated with how that's
you don't need to want them more to kind of just care down and stick with the
system order would you rather than maybe even go
something fine and just say use your speed and try to split it up
yeah i think there's definitely times we've talked about
you know within within our kind of uh... uh you know on the pp within the drop
florida probably does this the best of there still should be a room option
so when you are getting frustrated you can still room it in or if you're not
getting the line of teams want to stand up really hard i mean
if you think about it if teams are going to stand hard at the blue line
it gets really difficult to get in with possession
but because they're standing so hard you should be able to get it on a rim or
even on an end wall player self chip and so you got to balance those two things
i think you're the only team with no six on five goals is that something you
might be able to practice during this stretch and all this time
yeah we'll we'll we'll practice it uh you know there's a lot that goes into that
but we're definitely gonna we're gonna try to touch all our bases here before
we play Nashville so yeah we'll practice it for sure
talk a lot this year about guys have been the mentality of not trying to
win every ship it's okay to
look to fight another day saw that in the us we can gain do you ever use like
that kind of stuff as examples knowing that all the guys are watching
for you know for sure i think you know coming out of the especially
you know that game because it's too you know as they get into the next game
and hopefully one more um those games get so and it's best on
best it reminds you of i mean it's like another level maybe but i'll play off
hockey and in playoff hockey you you know you can't afford uh to force
to have forced mistakes or you unforced errors um and it's the same when
you're playing best on best uh over there so you're seeing you know
you lead the lead guys uh when they have a chance they're they're trying to make
a playblem they aren't they're living another day and so we'll certainly use that
do you think of uh Dylan Larkin finally getting a chance to excel on a huge
stage with that bowl yesterday yeah i was pumped for him when i saw it uh Dylan
someday i talked to still a lot and uh a good friend of mine and uh friend of his
families and uh really pumped that he's had that opportunity and when he
scored uh i was i was right i was really excited for him yeah really excited for him
so tonight said that he was battling for illness his last few games before the
break hits and then he'd tell you that like he was saying that's
he wanted to test himself to see how he could do in this
yeah i mean um you know we i knew he wasn't feeling his
best you know that's not totally abnormal you know
ultimately when it comes to this illness for the most part
i mean there might be sometimes we rule the player up and generally the
player you know dictates whether he can go or can't go
and in his case he felt like he could still go and give us a hundred percent
even though you might not feel a hundred percent that's always kind of my rule is
if you can give us a hundred percent uh then you can play if you're going to
give us eighty percent then it's a coach's decision whether that eighty
percent's better than then you know what i mean and that's
that's just the way it goes so generally uh when that's the case we don't
do you know when you anticipate so much impact i do not i do not i've left him alone
going for today um so i'm not sure when he'll be back to be honest with you
uh you've got a number of young guys in your team who've never
navigated a massive break you know time off like this when he thinks it's
important as they go past the practice before diving back into the season
it's a it's a good question um i mean this is a massive break you know
honestly i haven't navigated this massive and you know you probably
haven't had this in search and so like i mean i was in the american league at
the time um it's uh it's an interesting kind of dilemma i think part of
it's on us uh uh work our way back into them uh you know we've tried it
you know we eased i'd say the yesterday's prize a little bit lighter
today's was a little bit harder tomorrow's will be a little harder and we'll
take it day off so there's a side of that from the coaching staff that we
have to do a good job we got to monitor it with our um you know our trainers
and our strength coach um then the other side from there and it's just
you know i think most guys it's probably some of that's already been done like
you got to keep yourself in good shape and you might not be on the ice every day
but you got to keep yourself in good shape it looks like our guys have done
that and then it's just matter kind of getting your focus back uh
you know to them tomorrow's practice will be a challenge it's your third one
you know the first practice back so it's always easy second one the third one
that row gets a little bit harder so we'll have to remind them that they
have to be dialed in tomorrow well you're uh watching young players
aside from on ice execution what are some of the things you could look
forward to see if a guy is struggling or if a guy's getting it like body language
or off ice is there anything you kind of keep an eye on in that regard?
um body language for sure you know you can you can you can feel when
you can really sense when guys' confidence is starting to to dip a little bit
in and and i don't think that's restrictive to young players i've you know
coach some of the best players in the world and they're their confidence
dips it's just reality it's reality if any athlete uh
whether they want to admit it or not and you can sense it with body language
for sure and we have to be cognizant of that you know we'll sit around our
our coaches room and uh and i probably got this from kube he does a good job
of this it's just okay who needs to get bumped today who needs to have a
you know just just communicate with them and see where they're at
and at least you get a chance to have an open
communication with them and um you know and uh so those are important
things and and there's probably times where when we know
their confidence is really low uh we lay off them a little bit of coaches uh
you know even when you're on somebody all the time uh you take
away their confidence there's a there's a fine balance between
accountability and confidence and i think that we got to ride that balance as a
coachy stuff
all right there's Jeff Lassel after practice today uh as we mentioned a lot of
focus on the power play through up on twitter uh
now you make them and now you need them again and through up on twitter
by through up on twitter two examples of what the hawks power play was doing uh
the second unit i don't know why i'm doing it this way the second unit went
grizzly carried it up the ice did not have this link shot option
it was just him and the four other skaters were ahead of him
and they took it up got in the zone very easily uh then the first unit
Baudard carried it out dropped it back they dropped it back again
and then Baudard got tripped to the blue line and slid into the zone um
so you're seeing a couple different looks and as Jeff Lassel said there
you've got to be able to have a second option
when the opponent is standing you up at the blue line
trying to just prevent you from entering
you've got to be able to win that foot race and have the rim around option
and that's clearly something they were working on today
yeah yeah and and they've they started doing a little bit of that right before
the break um and i don't think we really saw them
really reap many benefits of that but this week is
how Jeff Lassel is kind of structuring the practice
is like let's kind of if we're implementing any changes
any tweaks or anything like that let's do it now um
and you know we've been we've been talking about it through through the season
and as uh their power play effectiveness started to kind of
fall back they at one point this year they had a top 10 pk and power play
but the power play is kind of faded down to the it's getting close to the
bottom of the third of the league now um and a lot of that is due to the
zone entry uh problems that they've had
when they get in the zone they're a dangerous power play
more often than not um but getting in and setting up has been has been an issue
so i like that they are addressing that that they're working on other
ways to try and be effective use their speed uh if they're not using the
drop pass the user speed to be able to uh enter the zone go and chip and and
chase and and and win a win a puck race um
and i like how you know blush all kind of
laid it out when things aren't going to plan to their
their go-to entry system which is the you know having the two option drop
that you know if teams are setting up where
everyone is dead stop at the blue line which we have
said a lot on this podcast not just the season but over the years
whereas is if you have that like blue line um defense
wall basically to go through chip and use your speed you have more you have
nasar you've been dart you've borkoski's fast like use that use your speed to
that advantage so i like that they are acknowledging that working on that
and adding that to their power play system to not just be so one
dimensional and be easy to defend on their zone entry uh
process let's continue uh the conversation about what Jeff
Elijah had to say to the after-practice more coming up next on CHGO Blackhawks

national has your back with tools insights and an expert crew
that's always in your corner old national bank i use them you should too
member fd i c were relationships and results matter
all right we're back on chd blackhawks and now it is time for checking it out
sponsored by old national bank every play matters whether it's on the field
or in your financial life the best teams win by delivering excellence at
every level old national bank were relationships and results matter
member fd i c uh... whoo got it good we're good
i don't know jade reflux is still active
all right uh... i noticed elina mure wins the bronze
for switcherland who beat sweeten and over time
saw the replay during the intermission and immediately
was brought back to my
favorite singular moment of the dynastie throw it up there right now cloy
bruncey brux celebrating eliminating the red wings
and elina mure celebrating eliminating the sweeten over time awesome almost
identical like mere image flips that's pretty good that's really cool as soon as
i saw that moment i said i've got to find a screenshot of that
that's pretty good and uh... so yeah that's that's very very cool uh... cool
moment for the twist uh... you know the the way as we talked earlier the
women's game it's more like the big dogs and everybody else uh... first
switcherland and win a to win a bronze is a huge achievement for them so
congrats them and elina mure for the over time winner talk about you know
all-time women's Olympic uh...
hockey players on the big stage like Hillary night
getting the goal for the u.s uh... today to force OT
elina mure one of the top uh... goal scorers in all of olympic hockey uh... for
her time um... she gets the winner for switcherland like that's awesome uh
speaking of uh... one will ask on the olympics every time you get a metal
you get the stuffed animals of tina and my low which are the i think your
weasels or stoats whatever they're called um...
every athlete gets one of those and as team canada was being handed their
stuffed animals the uh...
patients they showed and not tearing the heads off of them after losing that
game it over time to be like this is adorable
get it out of my face immediately i'm trying to remember
was it the olympics where uh... or maybe it was the world juniors
where a team won a bronze and the guy like threw his metal into the crowd juniors
yeah that was uh...
lea uh... lea sanderson i think with with sweeten
uh...
i think he was a rangers
prospect uh... and i believe he was captain of team yeah lea sanderson
yeah yeah that was they they lost uh... they i think they probably lost an
overtime or something and he he did that silver medal into the into the
stands hey man like you get to that point uh...
and you're you're that close to uh...
you know that glory on that stage especially the world juniors which i mean i
for hockey behind the olympics is the world juniors uh... as far as
intensity goes and i know other people might say uh... world championships i
will say which european country are you from uh... if you if you believe that is
second to the olympics but it's it's world juniors um... so yeah i'm i'm not
surprised that someone was that close and just at that point was just like yeah
i don't want this well we almost saw some uh... stotes
chucked into the crowd is this is uh... is a stote i should know that it is a
weasel like character is a stote like if you're watching now that you could
see their uh... uh... is a stote like a thing in italy
apparently the italian stote is a small agile carnivore
to the italian alps known for its seasonal coat change from brown to white which
acts as camouflage tina and my low are the uh... mammals that highlight the
impact or no are the mammals that are the winter olympic mascots and
highlight the impact of climate change on mountain ecosystems
oh interesting it is a very cute creature like uh... ferrets
yeah interesting well i learned something today
there you go i did not know the olympic mascot um...
but there you go that's there is now you know my my low and tina
you come to chtl and you learn stuff and do we have it this number one podcast
for uh... for stote alien stote information
you was an italian mario should know i should have known that you have nine
stotes in your back there at least uh... there's a look at the
stotes dropping that's a real stote that is very cute that uh... i imagine that
is the after the coat change from brown to white
very durable and my low is the stuff that's tina the stuffy for the uh... olympics
in the paralympics is my low oh who is missing uh... my wife told me my wife
knows all about this stuff my low was born without a paw but his tail helps
him out is what i'm told okay so the paralympians will receive my low
that's very cool i had said that's interesting that's a good touch
yes i touched there all right back to jeth lashel because i know everyone's
chomping in the back to the stotes in a while or stote
don't worry spasored by old man you stote heads um
the question about physicality it keeps coming up it sounds like it's something
scop powers is working on so keep an eye out for that
at some point you just have to do it
right and he and he mentioned sammer and zellie well you know sam
he's big but he's not overly strong so he's got to use his brain
look man how tall is sammer and zell six four six four
spree tall push somebody getting somebody's way
you guys as i said the other day developing a mean streak is part of
developing your hockey game you cannot be and i'm again and and and
brush one out of his way to say this to it's not like they're not competitive
it's not like they don't want to win but a lot of these guys don't have it in
their dna to be a net clearing
hardass right hmm you've got to find it someone has to find it
and it is one hundred percent a matter of willingness
you can't tell me we see Alex Vlasik every day that is a giant human being
a guy and he is not a string mean by any means six foot six if Alex Vlasik wanted
to push somebody out of the crease there's maybe a handful of guys in the
league if that could resist against what he would want to do
yeah you'd imagine yeah it is a matter of look you've seen
Brian Campbell lay people out that hit on RJ umberger
is terrifying but it's a massive hit you saw guys like Dino Cicarelli
who is what five eight yeah maybe living in front of the net yeah
it is an era but yeah sure but it was a more physical era where guys were
taking sticking you between the legs and even goalies like any bow for
we're pulking it you in the crease it's easier to be in the crease now than
it's ever been you're not taking the constant abuse you used to it might be
one big hit you know per shift or whatever you get away with less yeah now I
just it just has to be the puck has dropped
I am hitting the switch to be a bit of a jerk on the ice and when the games are
we'll go back to being this really nice guy and this really sweet guy
cool you've got to find that that's that is having a competitive edge and I'm
not saying you have to go from lady Bing to all time
telling that it's leader but you just have to find somewhere in your
reverse competitive spirit like we've seen all these guys
get pissed after a big hit or get pissed when you know the goalie gets run
they find it then it's got to be the mindset all the time
you've got to learn it if you're not born with it and we've talked about this
before too with big defenseman Alex Vlasik etc. San Mrenzel
they've always been so much bigger than ever when they're playing against
they haven't had to play a physical game because guys would just bounce off of
them now that the playing field has been leveled
sides and strength wise they've got to adapt that into their game
and they all can do it it is a willingness it is a
intentional adoption of that mindset
yeah I think that is something that you
it's it's it I will say it is hard to quote unquote teach that
and that's why a lot of people say like either you have it or you don't when it
comes to that edge to your game because it's it's hard to
you know go out in the ice and be like okay kid here I'm going to teach you how
get away with this and you know here you stick check them here and
put your you know cross check them there and elbow like you're not going to
teach that it's it's just that that style of play
that um like some guys just just happen and I think of like
dunking Keith not an overly big guy not physically
imposing so to say in in in his career when he was here on the set I was like
I was like thinking like man this guy's not that much bigger than I am
no he's not big but one of the toughest guys out there one of the
and and of a physical player and he was not as big or as heavy as
classic and crevier are physically um but just a different breed of
of player and I think you know it could be a reason why uh Kyle
Davidson when he got in the the draft we mentioned
Ashton Kumbi yesterday that's a defenseman that is
kind of thought of a little bit in the vein of a enforcer style type player
where the edge and the physicality is their their biggest attribute in the
game but you get a defenseman like that in the system
and that's somebody of the future that you're that you're looking at is
like well maybe the the pure skill isn't
you know there yet but at least that edge factor
that that physical style uh that nassiness in the game
is there and and that could be something that he focuses on um
you know through the draft in the future um could be somebody
style of players that he targets if and when he dips into free agency or
the trade market like it could be something that we we see this team uh
need down down the road because a lot of these guys like a lot of the the
drafted players defenseman to uh as we as we're talking about it like a lot of
speed a lot of skill very few guys are like
power players you got doc likes to hit
you've got yeah frondelle who's big and at the juniors level and and and in
Sweden has shown kind of power forward tendencies
you've got bovair who is thought of as a more power
forward style player we saw him likes to punch people fight fight fight guys
in college um but yeah it's just they don't really have an abundance of that
and obviously when you get to the playoff time and when the black hawks
eventually this group eventually gets to that stage
you need players like that you need guys that
you know maybe you don't think oh this is a gritty player a tough player
but then you got you know yani gourds out there who are 5 9 180 pounds or
whatever but our pains in the butt to play yeah i mean brain and havels a
great example yeah you know and shaw was not a big guy
but people hated playing that's what it's it's got less to do with size it's
got more to do with willingness and before he hit the breakzone we got to
keep an eye on this too you're close to moving counter Murphy
you're close to moving Jason Dickinson to your more willing physical forward
or physical players yeah next year you're going to be probably without
Nick Felino I would imagine probably you're going to have to find an
answer for this and look i'm not saying they need to get enforcer
those days are over i think there's probably two like maybe three official
enforcers in the NHL Rempi Reeves and Olivia but Olivia can play
like i think even i'll say like i think Ryan Reeves has more skills than he
gets credit for too maybe not at this point in his career was the 37 or
whatever yeah but the guy could play back in the day a little bit
you just don't have your old like all i do is
fight kind of guys anymore right but you've got to you've got to supplement all
the skill which is in fairness to david's and the hardest thing to get is to
find the high skill you can go find a guy they can fun people you can find
that right but it's going to be time to find it and be john points out in the
chat San Josevoi and maybe he gets an opportunity
after the trade deadline i don't know i just i'm just don't know where the spot
is for him and they've got San Laffer do you plays that way yeah
but he doesn't ever plays he's got a future here i don't know not at all
uh another young guy i want to mention i was also
spellicy yeah has that to his game um but be john brings up
Logan Stanley uh defenseman from the jets who is
uh coming for agent we're talking about you know defensive spots being open
and these guys coming up to try and take him and do you have an
all under 25 defensive core next year maybe um
but that could be someone who you're not saying Logan Stanley is going to be
a big difference maker but if you're looking to say we need some
size and physicality i mean that could be a depth uh you know a depth
route that you uh that you go it'll be 28 and may uh left shot defenseman
left side i don't i certainly don't hate that i mean
i don't know there's just so many there's so many young players you want to
give a look to um you know and if you're ever going to have a court
chance here don't master up here
hmm when right that he also i'm not against it but
anyway we'll see we'll see if we'll see if the offseason brings but six seven two
thirty one i'm down for that all right let's hit the break zone
one last time we come back a little more uh Jeff Flashle had some stuff to say
about uh watching players and their confidence
uh as the season goes on i thought it was interesting that's next on CHGO Blackhawks

of a quick question yes do you want to pull our money and buy red robin
gourmet burgers incorporated valued at just about $60 million yeah the entire
thing you want to do it yeah Chloe's got that family inheritance that's true from
yeah I just I just saw that that red robin is a valuation has gone down 90%
and their entire company is valued at about 60 million we could afford that as the host
of the MFA podcast I have thoughts on this and I know why red robin failed shredded lettuce
on a burger get your slime off my burger if you're going to put lettuce on my burger
I want it to be a nice leaf mm-hmm or a couple wedges do not shred lettuce and put it on my
hot food unless it's a taco or a mcchicken no it gets slimy and disgusting no shredded lettuce
and it sunk the business and I'll say this their fries goaded not rush more of fries I think
if you're gonna if you're gonna sink the business it's the bottomless fries that could be it too
but the unlimited soup and breadsticks has worked out for olive garden well when you're there
your family you've never been there never been I've never been on I've not that's it we're going
to and I got chained yesterday and the podcast that I never had hamburger helper okay I've never
had hamburger I didn't know what it was I'm like why isn't meat in a box I turned out it's not
meat that's funny because I just said it's the helper to the hamburger you you have to buy the hamburger
you provide the hamburger well then it helps you yeah I've never been to Olive Garden that's
it we're going to rockford we're going we're going to the Olive Garden I don't really I
I will say like I don't I'm not like I would never because nothing bothers me more than the people
like why would you get Taco Bell when you live in Chicago with the greatest I don't have a taste
for Mexican I have a taste for Taco Bell it's different it is different and I and I think
out of garden it's like well you can go to Taylor Street yes I know I have nothing against eating
Olive Garden it just hasn't come up it's so good and and Olive Garden meal deal when you are
in college I'm best Italian food you'll ever have I have I have no I'm honestly I have nothing
against the idea of Olive Garden I fine do you I'm not trying to yuck anybody's yum except with
shredded lettuce um but I would I would eat there it just hasn't the opportunities I presented I
think I think I think what's hurting Olive Garden is like there's they actually do have some
like competition for the like fast food Italian like Magiana's is pretty decent
um but like yeah I mean it's you're if you're gonna say like I want good Italian food actual good
Italian food there's lots of options but there are times when you're just like I want a soup
I want a salad and I want some salty buttery breadsticks and I have eight dollars in my pocket
I know exactly where I'm going so what's the meal deal well just I mean they just oh you're saying
it's I'm just if they have lots of inexpensive deals on never-ending pasta sure it's a great thing
like no no three words could be said in in in sequence better in my mind than never ending pasta that
I mean I'm pretty sure it's endless soup salad and breadsticks for like $10 and they're probably
still making your profit oh for sure because you're getting full on all that stuff right and the soup
the chicken yoke soup so again sounds great what is the authentic Italian scene in Colorado
there's none existed okay all right it's like it's all of good like what is the like in Chicago you
did I mean Chicago you can get authentic pretty much anything but you would say probably Italian
and Mexican and Chicago would be like the world class on that level what is what is that cuisine
in Denver nothing nothing only thing that yeah we the only thing that Denver is known for is green
chili okay green chili yeah that's like their thing chilies okay plural not the chili chili not
the chain restaurant chilies not chilies but yeah chilies chillies chillies chillies burritos and
chili I don't know talk about meal deals you can get like three meals worth of food for 20 bucks
actually yeah that's a great deal I keep telling my wife we're going to chillies to take advantage of
this deal you're talking about the triple dipper yes yeah amazing and and she's just like three
meals after that there's so much food you want to save money I like I like I genuinely enjoy
chilies also you mentioned maziano's I don't know if they're still doing this this was like a year
after covid so made her trying to rebound a little bit because people aren't going out to eat as
much we went there for new years of 24 and whatever you ordered they gave you another one to go oh so
it's awesome in the lasagna and maziano is weighs like 75 pounds it is a brick yes of lasagna and
they're like all right here's your to go back of the same exact stuff you ordered to go brick yeah
it's like what and we oh my god it was amazing that's and that's the deal and when I was it's
funny you talking about this because today is my the 24th dating anniversary for me and my wife
and maziano's was our first date because when you're in your 20s and you're poor and you work at
the score yeah chain rush there is nothing fancier than maziano's oh yeah that is five stars if
you really like somebody you taking a maziano's and you seal the deal yeah my here we are 24
years later my my wife and I is first yeah unofficial date because I don't think she considers it a
date but I did we went to famous Dave's barbecue yes which is no longer there where we went but
uh yeah chain restaurants man like the the there's a stretch of of Kenosha where I'm originally from
I know it well on highway 50 slash 75th Street by the woodmins yes love woodmins right off the
highway off woodmins it since when I was in high school it was like that's like the Apple
Bees the Chili's Buffle Wild Wings it's all over that you know hooters it's all over that that
stretch the best and in the last couple of weeks like you know when I'll I'll try drive home see
my parents and stuff I'll go down that stretch and it's literally it's like all those ones I
named but now it's also Bonobief and Rainbow Cone it's five guys it's Mod Pizza it's
um Chatters it's gosh what else is down that like literally every chain Chipotle's everywhere
Chick-fil-A like every chain restaurant that you could imagine is down that stretch of of road
it's insane and every time I drive there I'm just like man what is the attraction of this and
then I also say I want to eat there I want to eat there I want to eat there like it's it's crazy
that was always our so we used to go see every summer we'd see Dave Matthews band at Alpine Valley
and we would do both shows so we would always drive up to Kenosha stop a woodmins get all the
stuff to grill like you know so that was tradition but yeah over the years my cousin had a
autometry officer for a while and I would go see her because it was free um so it was great like
it was there everything you need is right there for sure by the way our majiano's date our first
date they put us in this at this table where we had to sit directly next to each other
and we were like it wasn't it wasn't a cross we called it the wedding table so it's for me side-by-side
and we were also on a stage we were like presiding over the crowd oh my god that's funny
fortunately we had been going to Hawks games together for like a year and a half before we became
official yeah and I remember my wife asked me out yes that's what happens because I am
afraid of rejection during the Olympics while we are watching the Olympics together on the phone
this is what happened back in the day Chloe um and she's like so like what are we like I think we're
dating now is it same here my my my wife and I can't do rejection we uh we were hanging out
through uh you know in our in our high school days and we so we met originally on stage crew of
the the spring musical which was cats which me and my buddies we were like hey we're seniors in
high school we've let's try and do stuff that we haven't done in high school before we're like let's
go out for the spring musical it was Oklahoma perfect I can be a cowboy that's fine they changed it
to cats and I said I'm not wearing that one piece spandex suit in front of god and everybody
we keep telling you to stop wearing it to the office yeah well you know hold have it's die hard um so
I said okay well I guess I had another friend who was on stage crew I was like I'll do stage crew
ended up meeting my future wife which was great for probably four weeks four to five weeks
we were uh inseparable kind of acting as boyfriend and girlfriend yeah making out all the time
nice that's how it goes usually and uh we're gonna go to overtime by the way
so I did not mean for my red robin uh mentioned to completely do the fine time here for a change
at this time of year I was thinking of the people that are on fast channel that it just ended with
like making making out all the time and then you just had more reason to find us um
so then yeah we uh one one day we were leaving uh stage crew and uh she was just like so we like
dating and I was I was like uh yeah yeah I was gonna get around uh get around it was on my list of
things to do um but yeah it was and it was just because like I was just I was like I want to ask her out
but but I was just like I was like what if we just start dating without me asking her out then
she would have and then then then I avoid the chance to be told no right and and and get rejected
that's it but that you know it worked out we're we're still together half of our lives later and
uh one kid and one on the way uh from what I understand my daughter does occasional theater
productions if you are a young man looking to meet women theater is the place to go
just it's a numbers game it's a numbers game a hundred percent that in cheerleading yeah for sure
Chloe how did you meet your partner oh what do you have to do this to me I've tried to help
do you want to put like your tinder profile on the screen or no scan this QR we have a bunch of
really normal people in the chat that would be your just thrilled to take you to Olive Garden oh man
you know what I would love that actually see okay here's what I was gonna say okay this is I was
trying to think of what Colorado's known for Chipotle started in Colorado it did so did noodles
in company oh okay nice we thank them for one of those actually noodles is fine we went to the
one in champagne when it was totally fine and he was at ISYM at U of I for uh orchestra this is the
violin mechanic I'm doing mac and cheese pad tie and like a uh I think hope got like a rabbi only
$50 yeah it is like in champagne it is like $15 a dish that's yeah insane what's tough that's
insane I'm never going back on principle unless they start advertising here in which noodles
in company baby hey then we better noodles with better company you you mentioned the pad tie I
can eat that there oh nice it's rice noodles I found that out because I was I was out and about
running some errands this was a few like two years ago I think with my daughter I didn't have a
snack with me in the car that was a rookie mistake and she's like I'm hungry and I was like I
have a snack and we also have these other three places we need to go so tough it out kid she's two
years old at this time and I'm like okay uh where can I stop and I stop at noodles because I'm like
I can get her a bowl of mac and cheese she'll be the happiest kid ever so I did did that and then
I realized looking at their menu I'm like hey rice noodles I can eat here too so we had a nice
little meal together uh so yeah good to know that noodles is a glue has a gluten free option that
was at ease favorite before she discovered nandos and nandos is her absolute favorite
and it was good I forgot to mention that Colorado is home to Casabanita is that a chain
Casabanita what's Casabanita you never seen South Park yeah South Park yeah I wasn't making
their reference but like when I was a kid every one of my birthdays was it Casabanita it's like
it sounds like a magical place it's like you think it's the most magical place in your kid
and you go there and so don't you're like what the hell yeah yeah um like cliff divers were there
they had like um you could take old-timey pictures they had a little sounds awesome like haunted
cave and stuff like that and it's like the worst Mexican food you've ever had in your life
hey what's saying there's like Casabanita and Naperville no it's not the same thing
this is they can't be the same they can't be the same I mean Casabanita is a pretty
generic beautiful home pretty generic name for a place but Spanish lessons the Casabanita
in Colorado is infamous I could know just like the airport yes all right hey guess what everybody
do we want to do we want to get to that point about Jeff no no you were going to make okay it's
