The hitting star of the day, amongst many others, was Adolfo Phillips Cub Center Fielder. In game 1, in his first at bat of the day, he had a home run. Not wishing to spoil game 2 for the ones of you who don't like to know in advance the particulars of the games you listen to from the Miami collection. I'll let you hear later how he did in game 2, which is our featured game of the Sunday afternoon double header. We at the Miami collection enjoy giving you little extras in our presentations. So let's do that right now. As we enter, Phillips is about to come to bat in ending 2 of game 1. We will follow that at bat with the entire game 2 of the double header. A game by the way that sets and or ties majorly records in the home run category. Enjoy.
Nobody on, nobody on, last half of the second. They play the Saturdays right and tie our hitter to full of ball. A swinging and a mercy got him on a fastball. An off speed pitcher breaking ball on a fastball and on a fastball. Now a dog full Phillips with sonner builder coming up. He is becoming quite a favorite with the sub-fim. Thatting 8 from the order he has 30 runs out of there. That's a seven home runs and a dog fuller sitting 294. He has about as much speed as anybody. That's right handed and he hits one high and deep. The left corner field that is going down.
The 8th home run of the year for a down full Phillips from that was quite a drive. Leon Jones and Tommy Davis had nothing else to do but just to turn and look at it. It was high over the heavy covered wall and left center. The 368 marking up in the back of the blacers. This is Ken Coleman speaking. We present for you another game from the Miley collection. We hope that you enjoy. We'll be back with the start of the day second game in just one moment.
Temperature climbing. Bring it back down. Stuart's delicious maple walnut ice cream. Stuart's maple walnut ice cream. It sounds almost as good as it tastes. What a fish. Bob Johnson. Betting third in playing left field Tommy Davis. Batting fourth in playing right field Ron Schwaboda. Batting fifth in playing third base Ken Boyer. Batting sixth in playing second base Jerry Wu-Chek. Batting seventh in playing center field Krihan Jones. Batting eighth in catching Jerry Grody and the pitcher Nick Wilhite will be batting in the ninth position. For the Chicago Cubs, a lead off batter will be Paul Poppilvich. He'll be playing at Georgetown. Batting second in playing second. Norm Geagan. Batting third in playing left field Billy Williams. Batting fourth and playing third base Ron Sano. Batting fifth in playing first base Ernie Banks. Batting sixth and catching Randy Huntley. Batting seventh in playing in right field Kipp Savage. Batting eighth in playing center field Adolfo Phillips.
And the pitcher Kurt Simmons. Batting ninth. And now Bud Hales and the stepping in the batter's box. The Cubs in the field at first base coaching their Yogi Bearer. At third base coaching their Sully Parkey. And the call goes out play ball in the second ball game to get underway. First game won by the Cubs by score five to three. And Kurt Simmons with his very first pitch. And it's bunded out toward the mound. He gets by the pitcher. It'll be a base hit. But Hales and on the first base hit a perfect bud for a base hit to start off the ball game. Kurt Simmons came off the mound to look like he might have a chance to get to it. But it went on by him and then the second baseman had no chance. Norm Geagan coming up had no chance to make the play. So the match trying to win the second ball game get their first batter on. And now the batter will be Bob Johnson. Hales and batting at 237. Johnson coming up is batting free 10. He has been a bat 29 times. Johnson playing the first base with the left hand or Kurt Simmons going. Eddie Crainpool played in the first ball game at first base. Had one in four times of the runner going the ball bounces off Kurt Simmons's leg.
It goes out toward right field coming around a third base. His butt helps and he's rounding there and holding. At dirty bench goes out and picks up all up and shallow right field and runs the ball back into the infield. A hit run base hit off of the leg. Of Kurt Simmons Kurt ran over to back up the play at third base and he is walking back to the mound with without much of a limit. So he is probably not hurt. Joe backer the pitching coach goes out to the mound to see if he hears all right. That ball was it right back to the middle on a hit and run play. And then after hitting Kurt's leg bounced out into shallow right field. It was hit hard. So the match quickly now have runners at first and third and Simmons is going to try a couple of throws. Fatter coming up for the match. Tommy Davis. Tommy with a home run in the first ball game. Thinking of his eighth this year now it's in 10 consecutive ball games. And Simmons is all right. After throwing three warm up pitches he said he's okay and let's go. Davis batting 319 he has eight home runs and 26 runs better than.
The threat of rain that we had at the start of the first ball game seems to have dissipated. Although the prediction was there 70 percent chance of rain heavy rains this afternoon. Now the first big to Tommy Davis it's down low ball one. Arleson at third bluffing up the line on at first base Bob Johnson. Fitch back to play called a strike it's one and one. First ball game comes out of total of 12 base hits a mess or a hell to five. Now the pitch back over the inside corner a good fastball. Count one and two. Kurt Simmons better left-handed. 38 years of age in the next picture is ball two two balls two strikes. Kurt is 30 86 with 1295 pounds he lives in metalbrook Pennsylvania.
So far this year he has a two and five record. Lifetime he has won 190 and lost to 180. And it's Lifetime record against the best five and five. A round ball hit the deep short the match will get a run the play over the second base for the first way is in time. A goal on the first base is not in time. As of that take the early lead scoring a run as but health becomes in from third. Bob Johnson for the second base as. All pop of it through over to norm gagan. Norm with his relay armed to first base not in time as Tommy Davis beaded out by about a step. Now the batter's runs Robota. Run battered in for Tommy Davis is 27. First business Robota hit deep to left it's going going and it'll be for excavations might go all the way and it goes into the stands a home run. Run Robota with a home run the left center field and the match take the lead three to nothing.
Run crossing at home plate that home run is third this year. And the match are leading by a score of three nothing and the batter coming up is Ken Boyer. Tommy Davis going in front. Two runs battered in for Ron his eighth and ninth this year. Ken Boyer stepping in. Boyer didn't play in the first ball game. Batting a two to all the right hand batter. And the first pitch is called a strike. And the next pitch is hit down the first base. Ernie Banks moves to his right comes up with the ball goes to the bag for the play there and he made it play on a system. Now a two minute out the batter will be Jerry Buchak. Buchak batting from the right hand side is hitting two fifty three six home runs fifteen runs better than.
And the first pitch is fouled to the right side ball going out of play strike one. That's scoring three runs in the top of the first. They lost the first ball game five to three. The cup has got three runs in the first two ratings against the match in that first ball game. Now the next pitch outside one ball one strike met tied it up. scoring three runs in the fourth inning in that first ball game but the cup is broken open in the bottom half of the eighth by scoring two. Now a curve ball fouled off one and two. One ball two strikes. Kirk Simmons back at Buchak is swinging a MF strike three and that ends the inning. But in the inning the MF score three runs on three hits. No errors and no one left on base and the score at the end of one half inning. The MF three the Chicago Cubs coming to the plate.
Going out of the bottom half of the first and we're getting our first look at newcomer Nick Wilhide. Nick is twenty six six two hundred and ninety five pounds. He resides in Redondo Beach, California just outside a lot of times. He was with the angels at the start of the season. He was working mainly as a relief pitcher for the angels. He had a record of 0 and 2 1960s with spoke in a Dodger farm. Groovy was ten and 12 there and 0 and 0 and six games of the Dodgers. Lifetime against the Cubs he has one one in lost none and lifetime in the majors he is 6 and 11. And his first fix is he starts off as foul off. It's strike one. Ball poppulvich the short staff of the Cubs will lead off better. Ball batting from the right hand side batting two twenty six. First ball game he had two hits and three times up. Was robbed of a base hit on a great play by Tommy Davis and left.
And the next big back is ground out short short. But Halson's charge just gets a good hop fires the first base for the out. So Wilhide on his first man picks up his first out. Now the batter will be the second base for Norm Gigan. Gigan batting 189. And the first game won by the Cubs. Hey it's Kelly Rowland. You may not know this but I have Exama. Low height into the wind up and the first pitch is fouled off. While going down the right field side, the count is strike one.
Houston beat the Lig-Rating Sishing Out-A Red 7-5 today. Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh 14-1. Now breaking ball back in the count, one in one as the ball misses inside. Stocks beat the Yankees, two to one in the first game of their double header. Boston beat Washington 4-3. First game of their double header. Now the next pitch high. Two balls, one strike. Second place, St. Louis Cardinals are leading the Dodgers after 7-1-1-1-1-5. Score of 5-3. Now, swinging a foul back, two balls to strike. Cardinals have picked up a half a game with Cincinnati losing.
There are three games back and if they win they'll pick up another half game. Two balls, two strikes. Nick Rollhide working for the Metz. Stringing a Metz and he gets it. First strike out for second out here in the bottom half of the first. The Metz Lee 3-0 in the second ball game after losing the first 5-3. Now they'll bring up Billy Williams. Bill was all for three in the first ball game. Left-and-battern, he takes the fastball high ball one. There's average 3-11 with 10 home runs and 31 runs better than. And Will Hide back again. And the pitch over the outside part of the plate, it's called a strike. One ball, one strike.
Will Hide takes no in the first set of signs now takes the second. And the 1-1 pitch is checked on and fouled off. So they can't, one ball to strike. If the Metz are rained out of this ball game and right now it doesn't appear to be a likelihood they will have to stay over and play tomorrow. Now it's 1-2. Blind drag, deep to left field. We'll be back as time it even, it's just going, going. It's off of the wall. I may not play in the ball off of the wall and thinking about William's going to third, here's the throw. And it is not in time. So William's for the triple off the wall in the field. That's that ball bounced off the wall. Tommy Davis didn't take out after it at full speed. When he saw that William was going for three bases, he hustled on them. And by the time he got to it and fired it in the Ken Goyer, William's out leg to throw and got in the third base.
So William's on a third, the first hit. By the cup, that ball missed being a whole run by about a foot. And the batter is now Ron Sano. Ron had a base in the first ball game, the driver to Ron and he got to Rally started, they got the cup two runs in the eighth and the first pitch is high. It's ball one. Sano's single in the eighth inning with a score tied three-three in the first ball game. He was sacrificed to second base and Corbin said savage, Luke to base hit the right field. Savage later on stole home to give the cup their fifth run. And we'll hide back again. The pitch is deep to center field. We're back as three on Jones. He has a chance for it. He makes a great play. Bring on Jones, almost hands up by a line shot to center field. Leon at the last minute, Bobby got to in fact made a diving one hand catch. A ball and he just barely could reach. So that retires the side. No one's one hit a three-base hit by Billy Williams.
No errors a great play by three on Jones and one man left the third in the score after one. The match three, the cup's nothing. The revised edition of the 1967 match yearbook is now available and in addition to the features of the first edition, it includes candid photos of opening day, pictures and playing records of new arrivals like Jerry Bluechite. If you follow the match on television or by radio, or in person at the stadium, you can do it a little bit better with the copy of the yearbook
because they complete professional playing record of each of the matches included in the yearbook. We're going now to the second inning and Ralph's kind of one of those people doing raising umber less than the lower deck. Wasn't there someone who once said that if you don't like the weather in Chicago, just wait a few minutes? Yes, I saw you at Jim Inwright between games of veterans sports, but he said they never have any mile of the year. It's all record-breaking weather now. While it's starting to rain here, just after we said it didn't appear to be in the likelihood, looking out over the ball-playing area, it looks pretty good, but have it only right in back of it, where the rain comes, it's starting to cloud up a little bit. Now it's clear on Jones, the lead-off for the match in the top of the second. They lead by a score of three-navhing and the first pitch is fouled back out of place, Kurt Simmons, in 50 to the match in the first inning, gave up three runs on three hits. The big ball, a two-run home run by Juan Svopoda. Now I'll file again on the next delivery, it's strike two.
Leon Jones, the right hand batter. Jones, batting 164, and he takes the pitch inside, one ball to strike. Leon was all for two in the first game of the double header. Next pitch is down the right field line, if it stays fair, it'll be extra basses. It is a fair ball that goes back into the corner. Jones goes to second base, rounds there, and holds up as the ball comes in, over to the third baseman, Ron Fano. So Jones gets his first hit of the afternoon, a two-base hit, the match gets their fourth, and the batter coming up is Jerry Grody. Now Kurt's is throwing in the bullpen for the Chicago gut. Say the Rangol Chugga-Mug is a wide-mouthed, glass mug that holds 12 ounces of beer, and even feel right when you pick it up. First telling them a handy guidance of six, and they're just about the handiest first punches in
town. You'll find Chugga-Mug on special display at your local stores in New York and New Jersey. Now, a conference on the mound. Joe Becker, the picking coach, is out talking with Kurt Simmons, also the catcher Randy Huddley, and a sign has gone out and the clubs are making a change. Cal Cooons, who had little time to warm up, is being brought in to pitch the Jerry Grody. So Kurt Simmons looking for his third win. He has lost five, lasted one inning. In that time he gave up four hits. Met speaking up three runs, Kurt struck out one batter, and walked none. And Cal Cooons is coming in, so let's check out the scoreboard with Lindsay Nelson. All right, Ralph, in the national league. First game for double header and Cincinnati. The Houston Astros beats the red seven to four. Mike Weyer got the win. He's now seven and two, and Mil Papyrs took the loss. Bob Astramatti, moment in the six and one on, and Don Pavlatic, for Cincinnati,
moment in the six and no beyond. In the second game. Houston's quarter run on the top of the first Cincinnati coming to bat. Paul Belinsky against Sammy Ellis. In Fade Lewis, first game for double header at the end of seven. And he's the Cardinals, seven to Dodgers three. Bill Singer started for the Dodgers. Ron Peronoski has relieved him into six running. Ray Washman started for Sammy Ellis, Joe Horner, and the seven. And now Wes Parker has hit a home in the seven with nobody on for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his latter, the end of six and a half inning. The Atlanta Braves three in the San Francisco Giants two. Ron Marichelle looking for win number 10, but he's trailing by a run right now against Denver Lamaster. Belief Bullo, Jackie Hyde, and Willie Mays have had home runs for two for the Giants one for the Atlanta Braves. Mays is number seven this season, the five hundred forty-nice of each career. And the Phillies want the par at fourteen to one. Jim Bunning over one to Zaro, Gene Oliver has the early home right. The American league first of two Boston four Washington three. As Jose Santiago got to win, Baldwin took the last cast and over and Howard at home.
Second game through and inning. Washington three Boston nothing. Virginia against Wasweski. The end of a half inning in Minnesota. First came with double header. The Baltimore Orioles nothing Minnesota coming to bat. Bill Mattingott's buzz well. In New York, first came with double header. White stocks two Yankees one. Oh two over Saddle Mar. The second game warm up Bruce Howard against Fritz Peterson. The end of two and a half he tried nothing California nothing's far against McLaughlin. First came with double header. The end of six Cleveland eight Casas City ones. Beyond against Ordham and Relief. Humors by May and Whitfield back to action here and here's Ralph Keiner. Okay, lengthy. The first better that Cal Cuncel face will be Jerry Grooney. Jerry right hand batter. Grooney's a right hand pitcher and the first pitch is hit down the right field line foul strike one. Grooney's batting one forty one with one home run and five runs better than. Cal Cuncel is making his 20th appearance for Chicago. All in relief. Last time I was against the Metta on Friday he worked two innings in that ballgame.
Gave up one hit. He was not the pitcher of records. His record is one and one now breaking ball high one ball one strike. Metta in front three nothing they have a runner at second base. Cleveland Jones he doubled to get there. That was the last bet that Kurt Sennman true. Now a one one count on Jerry Grooney as Cal Cuncel takes over. Cuncel's making his third appearance against the Metta. Metta got two in his first time he worked one and two third innings. Gave up two hits and three runs. Now the next fish bounced out toward the mound at a high chopper over the mound coming in quickly. The shortstop pop of it just saw the first base is not in time. Moving over to third on the blank Leon Jones. Though Jerry Grooney beat out an infield hit a high chopper that bounced over the mound. Pop of it just shortstop came in to make the play but he didn't have time to get the throw over the first base in time for the outs. Though that puts runners at first and third and brings up Nick Rohai.

That base hit by Jerry Grote his first hit in 24 times up. Runners at first and third and the ground ball hit down a second a good chance for two. Now Grote holds up they throw the first base Grote now goes to second to throw back the pop of it fix him up for the double play. Very Grote he did what he had to do. The ball was filled and right down on the line running between first and second and let's get a run on the play they lead now for another. And when Jerry saw that the second baseman gigane was going to try and tag him out he held up between first and second. Gigane played the ball perfectly the man he saw that Grote had stopped. He didn't fire the first base to get will height and then Ernie Banks returned the throw on down the top of it. You made the tags on the sliding runner at second. So all the cubs get to a two minute give up a run and the next batter is but Harrelson who takes the first base for a call strike but beat out a bunch for a base it is first time up.
And the next bit is call the ball one ball one strike. Metulating four nothing after one and two third inning. Next bit is grounded out to short pop of it comes in to make a one-and-play and he sort of flings it over to first base three side to side. In the inning the Met pick up a run on two hits no errors and no one left on base and the score after one and a half inning the Met's four the Chicago cubs nothing. Now here's the word for my goal. This way have a C on the eye. It would have served a better purpose if I had a C on the director. If the new Broadway play a penny for your thoughts is to succeed the audience will have to be
given change. Change in the book the choreography and in the music. The cast is pretty and enthusiastic but in New York City you also have to be talented. In this town either you have it or you don't. If you're going to make a play for New York you've got to be good. Do you know how many beers are trying to make it in New York today? 302 from all over but the only one that's made it to the top is the rich dry logger Rinegold. Rinegold. In this town either you have it or you don't. The very nerdy banks to lead off for Chicago here in the bottom half of the second. Nick Willehyde has completed his warm-up tosses. The ball goes around the infield and we're all set to go. Met three by score four nothing. They lost the first ball game five to three.
Ernie Banks had two hits and three times up in the first ball game. The pushes every jump to three oh nine. Right hand better. And Willehyde left the amateur with the first pitch. It's Lion foul. Willehyde down into the stands down the left field line. Ernie won the first game of this but will we hope to be a three game series. One game rained out yesterday. Now he shrinks and fouls an expert to play on the third base side. He got a base hit but the base is loaded in the bottom half of the ninth. Any know that first ball game won by the Cubs. Cubs won the second one here as the first game of this double header. After the Met had been rained out in the fourth inning with a three one lead on Saturday. And Willehyde with his two strike delivery. Curb ball are swinging a Met strike three. So I'll find Curb by Willehyde. Here's him his second strike out and that brings up the catcher, Randy Hutley.
We'll pause now for station identification. This is the New York Met Space Ball Network. The tempo is right to sound as bright on the Leon Kelly show weekdays 635 until midnight on the big bright sound of WGY's connectivity. Ralph Keiner along with Renjie Nelson and Bob Murphy from Rigglyfield. The Met's leading four to nothing. One out in the bottom half of the second. And the Cubs are their catcher, Randy Hutley the batter. And the first pitch by Willehyde is down low. Only a right-hand batter hitting 280 with five home runs and 24 runs battered in. Willehyde back in the pitches over the inside joiner, one ball one strike. The Met's got Nick Willehyde for Jack Hamilton. They like Jack Hamilton but the fact that they had very little left-hand pitching was the deciding factor.
And they hope that the left-hander can do a job of swinging a Met. That's now one and two. Met's have only one other left-hander that's Don Shaw. One ball two strikes, a pitch by Willehyde, curved it slips out of his hand, hangs up too high and it's ball two. Two balls two strikes and I just saw something over there, Lindsay looked like lightning. Well, the forecast is not good to say the best. Now for the good news. Two and two, Met's have checked out of their hotel but they'll have to go back and stay overnight and play them all. They get rained out here in this second game. Now a ground ball foul. Count two balls into his strikes and what's more if they get rained out in this second game, manager, what's Westrum just might do himself in. Because he's got a four-nothing lead right now. He lost one yesterday with a three-one lead.
And right now you can bet that the cops will do anything that they can to keep the Met's over. They'll stall us one out if I know Leo the rocher. And I know him. Do you know if I can do a thing like that? Do you? Oh, do I, thank you. There's that lightning again, too. Here's the two two-fake. He drives the left. It's gone. Get the good bye. So long. Randy Huntley with a second home run in his series. His strikes this year in the Cubs are on the scoreboard. Now the Met's leading by three and the batter coming up. His head savages you won the first ball game of the yellow header. His single drove in the lane run and he later added an insurance run when he stole home.
And the first picture's slow curve. It's taken high ball one and savages was moving out in bunny position. Last year, Huntley had 19 home runs to set a record for a catcher in his rookie year in a national league. Next picture's low and it's ball two. Yes, sir Lindsey, I think that Leo with all of his acting experience from his Hollywood days would manage to act it out pretty slowly out here if it's got to that point. Yeah, please do right. Next picture's eye on his ball three. Three balls no strike. Do you think the fact of his having two guys out at Tl Homes to men in the relationship further between himself and West Westrum? I don't know what had happened there. Now the next picture in it's called strike one three balls one strike. The action in the bullpen for the cubs.
Cubs getting down to their picture in the back north and they might go for a pinch hitter so they're getting a picture warmed up. Now the next picture outside ball four. Both heads avid get to first place. And the batter's telling up as Adolfo Phillips. Jack Hartenstein is warming up in the bullpen for Chicago. A right handed. Adolfo Phillips at a home run in the first game he was two for four. His home run was his eight. And he's batting at 295. He has 31 runs better than the swing in the mess at the first picture strike one. Phillips tried to steal home in the eighth inning behind head savage. He had moved the third base on a double steal when Savage stole home.
And he was out. He also was injured slightly on the play the tag made by a hot tailor. Now time is called. And it's going to be a box called on Nick Lohein. The first base umpire. Jack Crawford called a box on Nick Lohein. Now he has come into explain it to him and he'll have to explain it to West Westroom who also has come out now. He'd like to have an explanation. Savage gets second base on the box. West has gone right to his picture. Love that bitter sound it removes. Ok but trying to we'll have to make a sacrifice. Now let's going back to the Milliarden two drums. Look at earthy moist guitars. One right kind.
And again a set up by Nick Lohein this time no reason. No bark in the pictures over the instance inside corner called strike two Now Markabella is in the on deck circle for the cubs the pitches do up next Let's rating four to one the cubs will the run in to get their first run and a runner on second base one out bottom half of the second and the two strike bits curve ball hangs up too high low curve one and two well I set up again the pitch back of the plate as a fastball fouled back all going on the screen the camera remains is one and two as we
mentioned earlier they had some sort of rain here yesterday rain just about five inches in downtown Chicago once again the runner going the pitches it high in the air foul territory meet the Red Bull Dragonberry Emergized it's one of the many new drinks out now who knew ice cold drinks could be so fire try them all only at my thumbs Toyota's easy choice sales event is on whether you're looking for the performance of the camera the versatility of her at four the efficiency of a Corolla or all electric driving in the BZ there's a Toyota that's just right for you and with great deals across the lineup now's the time to find yours but hurry these deals won't last long Toyota's easy choice sales event ends soon we make it easy Toyota let's go places meet the Red Bull Dragonberry Emergized it's one of the many new drinks out
now who knew ice cold drinks could be so fire try them all only at my thumbs all going down the line and it is going out of play so catch damage was trying to steal third base on that pitch but the foul ball fencing back to second one ball two strike count mucic moves over near second base to intimidate savage to some extent he's going again the pitch is in the dirt the throw by Grody is in the dirt and not
handle and savage feel third throw savage without the benefit of a base hit his own a third base he was walked he was blocked for second and now has told him third a second stolen base today he had a deal of home in the first ball game and that gives a double full of the chance to hit with a runner on third and one out let's have playing their infield back the exception of the third baseman Ken Boyer two balls two strikes and the pitch to the solace is rounded out to short that was come down the store the first base is in time for the hour so the cup feel the run get their second of the ball game the metton's front four to two and the batter coming up is John Valkabello batting for the pitcher
Valkabello a right hand batter in the first pitch is granted right back to Nick Flowheye he makes the staff goes down to his knees get the close to first base for the out the retirees aside any any two runs on one hit no errors and no one left on base in the score at the end of two the match for the Cubs two another bright idea from the folks who care Tobin's first prize Frankfort's not with but in soups with good cooks adding whole first prize Frankfort's to lettle soup has always been a must but do try this first prize Frankfort an onion soup make your soup with one package of onion soup mix add five or six first prize Kimless Frankfort's cut into bite-sized bits and top with grated Parmesan cheese it's sort of international but it tastes out of this world and first prize Frankfort's slice is in vegetable soup your owner can't are another great combo but do use first prize Frankfort's you'll love that Tobin flavor touch the very best meat the very best meat makes the

Johnson Tommy Davis and Ron so boarder the first pitch to Bob Johnson's call the strike Bob had a base hit on a hit and run play his first time up he hit a hard smash through the middle had bounced off Kurt Simmons hit him on the leg and went out into shallow right field and on the play but Harrison who had funnily way on went over to third where he later on scored now the next pitch called a ball it's ball one strike one hard and sign with a short wind up and a pitch back to the plate down low two balls one strike hard and sign worked against the Metc and the game the Cubs won six to five he worked two and in his game of one hit his first time out against Philadelphia he went one third of an inning and got the loss now ground ball right back to the middle it'll go through in the center field for a base hit Bob Johnson rounding it for his base and holding there so Bob is now
two for two and that'll bring up Tommy Davis and into a force play his first time off he brings a 10 game hitting streak into this ball game and the first game Tommy had his eighth home run in the fourth inning he drove in too Tommy has driven in one run in this game when he hit into the force play but Harrison scored from third Tommy now a 27 runs batted in this year that's as many as he had all last season he played in a hundred ball game last season now the first pitch is called a strike don't hold him too cheaply though because Tommy has done something in his career that's mighty important drove in 153 runs for the Dodgers back in
1962 only three players in the National League history ever drove in more runs than one season now a check and a foul ball of the left side strike two the all-time high in the Major League held by a national league at Wilson he drove in 190 and after that shut Klein who drove in 170 and Medley could drove in 154 and the fourth high on that list is held by Tommy Davis with 153 now the two strike bits are swinging the mist strike three Martin Stein picking up his first strikeout met Dow with Ron's robot are coming up Ron had a two one home run his first time up off Kirk Simmer home run by Ron

Cubs are betting and the first batter will be the shortstop all poppilvich all a switch it or betting from the right hand side against Nick Ruhide he lines the first six over the glove of 10 players he made a high guy all fixed up quickly by Tommy Davis down and left field and poppilvich phase it first poppilvich had two hits in the first ballgame that three four in now in the double header and the batter will now be Norm Giggon Giggon struck out on the three two fifth after following off double bitches his first time up that in 184 and the first thing to get out to centerfield moving back is three on Jones on the warning track he made the high jump all it was as well all gets to wait for it he now gets up and trickled up poppilvich is coming around to draw from first phase he goes in and going over to third is Norm Giggon
it seems for the three base it and a run battered in and makes the game a four three game in favor of the mess and Jack Lamay starts to throw in the ball and then for the mess we are in Jones never get back to the wall he made a high jump the ball was in his glove but also in there with the ball was some ivy and as he came down the ball squirted out of his glove and came on off about 15 feet away we are in Jones then looking to the ball and saw nothing ever the ivy and then saw the ball was out in front of him he ran the pick it up by that time a run was in and Giggon was all the way to third now the batter is going Williams and a matter of playing their infield in on the shortstop side also a first phase and the first fifth to Williams it fouled on the right field side strike one I'm run is that third base that had a four nothing leading the ball game that comes got two runs in the bottom half of the second and that is one run here in the third and have the time run at third
Nick Wollheim working on the mound Zach Lamay the right hand are warming up in the bullpen and now Jerry Grote walking out in front of home plate and then looking over to West Western foreign structure Weston is standing with one foot four is on the top step of the dugout ready to come out here's a bit outside a fastball almost gets on by good play by Jerry Grote on the catch it's one and one Toyota's easy choice sales event is on whether you're looking for the performance of the camera the versatility of or have for the efficiency of a Corolla or all electric driving in the BZ there's a Toyota that's just right for you and with great deals across the lineup now's the time to find yours but hurry these deals won't last long Toyota's easy choice sales event and soon We make it easy. One ball, one strike. And the next delivery, high curve that gets us way inside, now I ball through. Two balls, one strike. On deck, better, on panel. No one out. Now, why? Into the line depth and the pitch. That ball fall off. All hit down the third base side out of play and the cat goes to two. Two balls, two strikes.
And the next pitch. First shot down the left field line and go for a basic coming over Johnny Davis. I mean, in the short from third as long as he goes. What him's going to second the throw on the side, the tag of the airspace. And here comes West West, to the mountain. Little blue double by Sully Williams down the left field line. And that's going to be off for Nick Wilhide. It has tied up the game. No one out. When the bottom half of the third and the new pitch in the ball game will be Jack Lemay. Wilhide going two innings and his first appearance for the match. He has given up four runs on five base hits.
He struck out two and he walked one. Jack Lemay is coming in the ball game as Nick Wilhide in West West. And right now let's check again with the scoreboard and Lindsay Nelson. All right, Ralph and the national league. The Houston Astro took the first game from 6.97 to 4. I clear over Mill Pappas and the second game is on. Moving to the bottom half of the third and he was used to leading by a score of 3 to 1. Forgullinsky against Sammy Ellis and Jim Wynn, homadindeter with one on for Houston. Our fabulous Dodgers have scored four runs in the top half of the ninth inning in St. Louis. So going to the bottom of the ninth it is now the Dodgers seven and the Cardinal seven. Egan working in relief for the Dodgers. I guess four on the St. Louis Cardinal Jim LaFever had a three run homer. They helped in the four run rally for the Dodgers that tied the score in the ninth. Early in West Parker it is a solo homer.
That's the first game for double header. Going to the bottom half of the ninth inning in Atlanta it is. Francisco Giants three in the United Braves three. Juan Marigere against Denver Lamassia, homers by Felipe Louis Jackie Hyatt and Willie Mays. Philly Swapit break 14 to 1. Jim Bunning of a one, Bizarro, Gene Oliver hitting a home run. If you can go right, touch beat the Yankees two to one in the first game. Jim O'Toole and the one of Mel Staddle-Malto lose of the second game is through two innings now. Bruce Howard against Chris Peterson and there's no score in that second game in New York. Detroit's leading California to the nothing at the end of four and a half. Farmer gets for Glutton. And once again we are going to play in here throughout Santa. Five in the Johnson's run, Santa will be the first man for Jack Lomay. And go ahead and run as that second base, no one out. Cuts that side up the ball game at four or four. Santa was out on a great play by Clean Jones' first hammer. Thatting for the second time is average at two forty one.
And Jack Lomay was the first fish to breaking ball over a cross strike. A May was in the first ball game. He was on the mound when Ted Savage told home. He was also on the mound when Adafo Phillips tried to steal home right after Savage had done it and Phillips was out. And Lomay back in the picture is way inside. Santa will have to duck away from his first ball. But count one ball one strike. One ball one strike. Jack has a record of no wins and one loss. This is his ninth appearance. And the next delivery, a hard swing in a miss of the high slider. Count now one and two.
For a while there it looked like the match might have something going on the easy style as they get off to a four or nothing lead. But the cut scored two runs in the second. Have added two more here in the third. And still have a going. A winner at second base with no one out. Now the fish back to Santa will drive. Hey, this is the highest goal. One set of. With his eight home one of the year and the cuts have now taken the lead by a score of six to four in a battered dirty bank.
And the first fish to bank the breaking ball over a call strike is early moved out to protect himself just in case of a knockdown bit. Six to four Chicago. Four runs in the inning. Three of them charged against Nick Wilhite. Now swing at a breaking ball a foul ball. Strike two. That puts Nick Wilhite on the record. As Billy Williams who was on at second base was just responsibility. This right now in early banks he struck out his first time up that in a three oh seven. And the next bit of breaking ball over the outside corner strike three or any is struck out for the second time. And let's get there first out here in the bottom half of the third and the batter now coming up.
Randy Huttley who had a home run his first time up. Huttley's home run is six this year his second in the series. He's batting 284 and Jerry Grody went out to the pitchy man. The dark with Jack Lamay. Let's now have Jack Fisher warming up in the bullpen. He was the starting pitcher in the first ball game he lasted to any. And the fifth to Huttley granted out to our third. And the four of the three more years goes deep back of the back of the third comes up with a the launch. So the first base is not in time. They sit for Randy Huttley as the mouse one back of the bag for you made a good one handed backhand to grab and had to throw from almost in foul
and the first base was offline and not in time. That'll bring up his average. That is batting 244 right hand batter. And the first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike.
The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike. A drop of full of the eighth batter and the batter and the setting. Got the fourth and they have two on. They laid down a six to four. One man out. The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike. The first pitch is on the strike.
The first pitch is on the strike. And with the last pitch, West Western comes out to the mound again. While we wait to see his decision, we'll pause for station identification. This is a New York best baseball network. Hi, this is Jerry Ducy. If it's conversation you're looking for, then talk to me on my telephone show each week day afternoon at 130, here on the big bright side of WGY is connected. Ralph Kindered along with Lindsay Nelson and Bob Murphy from Rigmy Field in Chicago, and the Chicago Cobs was seven runs in this inning. Are now leading by a score of nine to four and Jack O'Mayba is going out, and Jack Fisher is coming in the ballgame. Jack was in the first ballgame and worked two innings and gave up three runs. And he is being right back in here now. A three run hold run by a doppelphops is nice this year,
putting the finishing touches on Jack O'Mayba. Met scored three runs in the first inning to take the lead three nothing. Added one more in the second to make it a four and nothing ballgame. The cobs got two back in the second to make it four two, and have exploded for seven runs here in the bottom half of the third. And they lead now by a... And now looking at the ballgame from the winning side of the ledger, Chuck Hardenstein. Chuck came in the ballgame. When the cop is behind, he was the third picture used by the cop. Now he's got a chance to pick up his first major lead win. Chuck was the first to get his first lead and he's got the second lead win. Chuck is the second to get his first lead win. Chuck's the second to get his first lead win. Chuck is the third to get his second lead win. Chuck Fisher taking his warm up pitches on the mound. more jack this will be his 13th ball game. His second in relief.
And he'll be pitching with the bases empty and to Chuck Hardenstein. And the first pitch is called a ball. Hardenstein has never had an official ad bat in the Major League. He has appeared in two earlier ball games but has no ad bat record. And he swings and fows and exits one in one. One one pitch is one on and fouled and they can't one ball two strikes. And again lightning out over the right field area. Quite a way.
One ball two strikes, pitcher side arms and the pitch is fouled off the end of the bat. Bill Malfa tunnel, the first base goes over to fielding. And at one ball two strikes. Lightning out in center field area. Now out down far away in center field. Better say far away beyond the center field fence. Here's the one two pitch. Rounded out toward Jack Fisher. He makes a catch of a one hopper. Throwes the first base for the out. Now the 10th round the bat in the inning. All pop of it started to get in off of the single. A line drive over the glove of Ken Boyard third. Drops taking the lead with seven runs here in the bottom half of the third inning. They lead by a score of nine to four. Pop of it's batting from the left hand side. Now with the right hand pitcher in batting 2-22.
Any grounds one back to the mound. It's over the mound. Jack Fisher's here and get it and coming in to pick it up. But two light is butter health and he has no play at first. Another base hit for pop of it is second in the inning. That is his fourth to day end. It'll bring up norm gigans who triple the center field. His first time up in the inning. Can't get a right hand batter one for two for this ballgame. Two minutes, bottom half of the third. And a high pop up in foul territory. The ball overbides a cuff dugout and out of play. One strike cut.
Pop of it's back at first base. Jack Fisher getting set and now back to the plate. The runner going the ball bounced right over the mound. But moving over the cover on the runner going. The second baseman, Jerry Bootechek and he made the catch of the ball right by the bag. And then stepped on the bag to retire the side. In the inning seven runs on seven hits, one error and one man left and the score at the end of three. The Cubs nine, the Met four. On a Met four return home to St. Stadion. And I'm sure they're looking forward to that. This has been a long road trip. Met scoring from New York to Los Angeles. Now for the play by play, let's eat awesome. Thank you very much Ralph Gunner. Hello again everybody. Ken Boyer's after lead off for the Met. He takes the first pitch high for ball one. We're in the top half of the fourth inning.
The first time pitch is in there for a call strike. It's one and one. Boyer grounded out to first place on his sister this first time up in the first inning. He's swinging the drive and the left field for a base hit. Billy Williams over up with his place it back and Boyer turns and holds with a line drive single or left. That'll bring up Jerry Bootschak. The official paid attendance. While the several had it earlier this afternoon, 19,247. 19,247 paid. Bootschak's been up one time and he struck out. Cubs lead by a score of nine to four. This pitch is in for a call strike. Seven runs scored by the Cubs in the third inning. Ties there high for run scored in the nitting this season. Here's a swing in a ground ball.
Top to third taken by Sandu and Ferris Territory. He goes to first and he's out at first. Moving on to second Ken Boyer. Bootschak, grinding out third to first one away and now Clean Jones. He's on up one time, doubled and laid at score. Cubs won the first game here this afternoon by a score of five to three. First game of a double header is over and said Lewis and the Cardinals scored it run in the bottom half of the night to beat the Dodgers by a score of eight to seven. Not a pitch to Jones and it's in there for a strike. Nelson Browse gets the win and relief for the card and Bob Miller takes the loss for the Dodgers. Alright pushing across the singleton and the bottom of the night to win it. Now the pitch to Clean hit on the ground up the middle and it's going to go through for a base hit.
Boyer's running third getting a green light and coming home. He scores no play on him. Clean Jones holds his first with the same little son of the run battered in. It is now the Cubs nine and the match five. Jerry Grote is the batter put up one time and had a base hit to break a long grized bell for himself at the plate. He's right hand batter any back should first holding against the runner. Clean Jones, heart and sign, Jackson Deale, trying to fall ball back and out of play. And we're getting a little action down in the med bullpen. Chuck Astratus up and throwing with pitcher Jack Fisher on deck. Astratus throwing and they're at med bullpen.
Clean Jones, chopper up the first base line. Grote often winging it to foul ball. Clean back to first Grote across the bag at first comes back to the plate now. His chopper went off the plate and took off. It came back in foul territory. He walks over once the fine tarrag from Jack Fisher who flips it out to him. Now Grote settled himself back into the batter spot. Heart and sign, Jackson Deale, on Jones at first, here's a pitch. Missing outside for ball. One and two, did Jerry Grote?
I can sign again, take the sign. Here's a one, two, pitch, one on it, Indian and a center field. An and an awful fillet just racing over over and he skids along and he makes the catch. For the odds and Clean, retreats to first base. A dark full fillet racing over and the left center field. He left his feet dire for the ball. Made Guy and Jack and skidded along on he showed him and held on with the ball for the odds. Still way ahead now. We're going to have a pitch hit here for Jack Fisher who's going back to the dugout. Now Loot flow is coming up to bat for Jack Fisher. Loot flow, batting for Fisher. He made out for the match here on the top, over the fourth. Again, Boyer, single sharply to left, Jerry Boot check. Now start through the first, Boyer going to second, Clean. Jerry's on the ground, single up the middle, scoring Boyer.
And Jerry Grote has just slide out the center field, Jones holding it first place for two men out. Jack is trying to throw in the bullpen. Fisher's out of the game. Loot flow is in and waiting. Swing in a minute, it's strike one. Harden sign taking to sign. Swing in a ground ball towards Short. Licking air by Papa bench play the cross to it. People's rights, all right gone to done its radio. The turn to mine, swing it. And then, swing it. A million sounds you want to hear.
It's the last time every year. Everybody's voting in the smiling boys, a radio, the people's choice. It's the worst cause in between its radio. That makes us feel. All right, Ralph Jenner, it is now Chuck Gustrator, and therefore the New York Met. Chuck Gustrator is the fourth Met picture of this ballgame. Chuck Fisher worked two-thirds of the thing, charge with no runs, one hit. So I got none one, now the picture of Renky, his Nick Will Heide, who started. The start of the start of yesterday's game, which was haunted, and the bottom of the fourth was one man out. He had allowed the Cubs one run on one hit, during the first three and one third inning yesterday.
So I started a squad back here this afternoon. He'll be facing left hand by the Billy Williams who has tripled and doubled in these first two times up his driven and run on the scored one. William Stephsend. Let's try to take the sign. He'll depict. It only goes on to short. Harrison gets the big hop back to the bag, blaste the first in time to get William's airs one away. Ron Sandrobe in the battery. He had a two run over and the bottom have the third. He lined up the center his first time up. The start of his making is nine superlums of this season he has a record of one win and two losses. Fish for the Chicago Cubs quickly last season.
Straighten the ground ball to deep short. Scooped up my health and the long throw across in time to Bob Johnson in just above all and Sandrobe's on. Bob Johnson in the first baseman. We'll all find it and so on. He's charged with an arrow. Bob Johnson, he's charged with an arrow on the play at first. And Ernie Banks is up now. He's gonna try strike out both times. The Cubs have a run over at first and one man out. Let it go. Inside Grody's throw to second and he is out at second base. Jerry Bruchek putting the say on Ron Sandrobe and adding running on the first baseman to Ernie Banks. Fish was high and tight. It's far one. Too late nobody on base.
Cubs leading by a score of nine to five. The started delivery is at it in the dirt roads away. Too early Ernie Banks. Fish are went back down to the bullpen to continue loosening up his arm. Here's a plane that drives foul down the left to the line and out of play. God goes to two and one now on Ernie Banks. Randy Huntley is kneeling on deck. Here's the two run offering. Strong odd and missed. It's two and two. President Bing divided the mess with you yesterday.
He was here for the press conference which announced the trade by which the mess got Nick Willight in exchange for Jack Hamilton. Then Bing continued on to his home in St. Louis before returning to New York. Here's the two two delivery. Strong odd and foul out the count holds at two two. Jack is fluttered with the offering. Strong odd and undergone the third gen boy are up with the ball places across the charts and in time and decided his out. No runs no hits in error and none left. Score at the end of four full innings is the Cubs nine and the mess five. The third gen boy are up with the ball places across the charts and in time and decided his out. Cubs nine and the mess five. In the top half of the fifth inning, Bud Hilton is up to lead off of the med switch at your batting left. Judge Heitensdine deals a pitch that's budget. I'll tour them out Heitensdine off and up and over in time for the out.
If you've lost that much, you've come up with the ball and we'll lead over to any bank in time to get out and try to the bunnies way on. Bob Johnson's gonna try to set to hit, letting first place in the second game. Art Neet's signed delivers and it's in there for a call strike. Comes nine and the best five. There comes one in the first game here today by a score of five to three. Swing in a foul ball off for not a play. Two strikeouts to Bob Johnson.
The Hardenstein looks down to Randy Hundley for the sign. Two strike pitches, one on a foul off. Johnson stays alive with the two strikeouts. The meds and the league leading, Cincinnati Reds at J. Stadium Tuesday for a twilight double head starting at five p.m. Midstring out and midsting Hardenstein has his second strikeout. Two away and nobody on base Tommy Davis is coming up. Get into a fourth play to drive and run his first time up. He struck out in the third.
It's a little hard on the side and Davis was trying to duck out of the way and was nickned by the ball just barely says on by John Kipler. Indicating him just nicked him on the back of the hand so he goes on to first hit by a pitch ball. That's the double base runner and Ron Fervot is coming up. He had a two run home on the first inning of this game. He hit into a double play on the third. Cubs are leading nine to five. Any base comes over to holding us Tommy Davis the runner is first. Voters in waiting.
The pitch is in for a call strike. So is one and one. The pitch is in for a call strike. The pitch is in for a call strike. He hit into a double play on the third. The pitch is in for a call strike. He plays the gig off for the fourth and he goes out on an official ball game. He had a big deal on the top of the fifth. The New York Metz has no hits. One hit, the first one in the first. The score in the middle of the fifth is a Cubs line. The metz five and now here is the record wrangle. There are 300 and 200 beers trying to make it in New York.
From all over, but only one beer has made it to the top. So which, for our Lager, Rangos? In this town, either you have it or you don't. In this town, either you have it or you don't. Either you're a pro or you won't get very far. Either you have it or you don't. Langold. We're going to the bottom end. It's fall in Jeep country and during the drive into fall sales event, get a great deal on four by fours that refuse to be contained. Like Jeep Wrangler, confidence built into every drive with the most awarded SUV ever, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and freedom that can't be denied, with the open air freedom and Jeep gladiator.
After 85 years, it's no surprise that Jeep became America's SUV brand. Get a great deal during the Jeep Drive into fall sales event. Jeep is one more awards over its lifetime than any other SUV brand, even the Jeep Grille Registered Trademarks of FCA US LLC. Now for the fifth inning now. In the National League, in Atlanta, the Atlanta Braves have defeated the San Francisco Giants and Tenennings by a score of four to three. The winner is Denver Lamasser, who had won seven and lost one for the Atlanta Braves. The loser is Juan Marichelle, who pitched the entire tenening. He has won nine and lost five, home is by Felipe Louis Jackie Hayes and Willie May. Randy Huntley is up right hand batter facing right hand pitcher Chuck Kestrada, which is high for a ball. As you know, with the home team leading, take four and a half innings for a game to be official. So this is now an official ball game we're playing the bottom half of the fifth.
There's a straight ahead drive to East to left field, way back toward the wall and it is going into the staff for a homeride for Randy Huntley. There's second of this ball game and he's third hit, the complete by a score of ten to five. Randy Huntley has hit homeers number six and seven of the season for himself in this game. That's average is coming up, he's watching with all on an arrow. It's in for a call strike in the net bullpen tuning up for a Tuesday night start young Tom Seever.
Tom Seever tuning up. Here's a breaking pitch attempt for a call strike that hits David, two strikes to him. A doll full fill of sweat on day. Two strike delivery and it's high for a ball, one and two. There's a pitch foul back and out of play. Gone continues at one and two. Nobody out for the cup batting in the fifth.
It's average was obtained by the cup from the Taylor's Cardinals. Here's a one two pitch. The Lover Ball, he came up originally with the Philadelphia Phillies after an illustrious minor league career. Charlie Metro who is now a super scout for the Cincinnati Red was telling us between games that he managed savage last year at Tulsa in the Cardinals system. Here's a big time. I'll pull it three and two. Charlie Metro formerly managed the Chicago Cup and he now serves as a super scout for Cincinnati. Scouting the team that they play next. Here's a playoff pitch it on the ground and it's going through for a base in the middle. Leon Jones comes up on the ball, Sally's face at first and flips down the third of her. He flies back in safely.
Here's a wide-created first. What way up the line and then when he started to throw on the break, he slipped down. So I had to hustle back to first to throw over there was not in time to get him. It's just a single and we far is for station identification. This is the New York Met Space Ball Network. This is WGY, a general electric broadcasting company station. It's connected. This is Lindsay Nelson with Ralph Cannon, Bob Murphy, and Wrigley-Feel-Inch Chicago. An Adolfo Phillips is up at a three-run homer in the third. Here's a pitch high from all. Still nobody out for the cups in the fifth. That's one of the first game here today, five to three. A 1-0 delivery. Get on the ground, top foul on the third base line. Feedleafers, the coach is third, comes up and picks it up.
Looks at it, throws it out. A count of one and one. Fisher, Chuck Heartenstein is waiting on deck. Duffo Phillips came over, used the fine draw right just a moment and now he's back in and waiting. His damage takes his lead at first and the strut is over leisurely. Just a calling card, Bob Johnson, the first base line returned it. This will be a 1-1 pitch. And it turns for a toss strike. Phillips didn't swing, he started to and laid off. Now it goes 1-2.
I started thinking the sign, he is the fourth match pitcher of this ballgame. The pitcher of record is Nick Willeid, who started. So how does the throw is over the first? Willeid works the first two and he's worked the three about it without retiring one and the third was charged with five runs. The coach are leading. I score a 10-5. Here's a throw over the first not in time. Randy Hundley led off this inning with a home run for the tenths cover under the ballgame. They got seven and the third inning. Here's a pitch, takes swing, Bob all off to the right and out of play. 1-2, now to a down full fill of two, bats number eight in Leo de Roche's cup batting order. The average leaves it first base. The strut turns and throws over.
Got him time. He got a strut up and set. Ready to go. Fitch is following his east arrest. It's going to go again in the east. Go out for a home run for an off full fill of it. It's a second of the ballgame. I threw that over. Over the left field, turns out into the street. The cup's lead by a score of 12-5. Still nobody out for the cup batting here in the bottom half of the fifth inning. In this game, Randy Hundley's at two old runs. It's awful. Full of two runs and goes at one. Fitch is in for a call strike to Hartons time.
Then up one time, got a dot-fitch at first. Playing a foul ball back and out of play. Two strike shots. The bats got off to an early lead in this ballgame, getting three runs and the top half of the first and adding another in the second lead at that time, forward and nothing. Here's a pitch high. Now the cup's lead at 12-5. Two strike delivery. Popped up foul back and first and it's going into the feet to not apply. So they count holds at two strikes. This will be a one-two pitch.
In for a call strike three. So I start to strike out Hartons time. There's one away. That'll bring up foul pop of it. The short stop who is two for three. Here's a swing at a foul ball back and out of play. The Philadelphia Phillies have just sold each old friend Carter to the Atlanta Braves or an undisclosed amount of cash. She will join Atlanta tomorrow night. When the Braves come in to Philadelphia. Swinging a golf ball to second. Who checked up and over to Johnson. Two away. Now an armed giga on is coming up. Giga struck out. Shuffle the drive in a run and into a force play. To make real on the Braves rush to the action Glenn Clark to redding of the Eastern League.
Ben Coney had been obtained earlier by the two-way. The two-way, the two-way, the two-way, the two-way, the two-way, the two-way, the two-way, the two-way, the two-way, the two-way. And you remember that? The first one. Ben Coney had been obtained earlier by the Phillies from the St. Louis Cardinals. There's a swing at a mess by Giga. When Phil White went out of action. The Phil found himself in need of insurance at per space. So they purchased Ben Coney for that purpose. Now they apparently feel that they need no longer exists. There's a swing at a gone ball to deep. Short-house. up your grass up and over in time to get Norm Gigan and the side is on. But for the Cubs three runs on three hits, no errors and none left. The end of five full innings, the score is the Cubs 12 and the Met 5. Saturday night July 8 till the old Hammers night at Chez Stadium. Make sure the event pairs the 1960

The awful filip is getting quite an ovation and a reception from the Bleacher right and he takes his post out in center field. And Ken Boyer is coming up to lead off for the met year in the top half of the six penny. Jakarta St Somejes Thank for your staff.
There you go Rikost Yeah. There's a swing at a fly ball in the right field. All down by said savage and boy is out on a fly to right. Jerry Boothcheck is coming up. Shark out and grind it out. Here's a swing in a minute, first, right? A swing on one minute.
We had a drive into center and an awful film comes on and one ends the bottom out. Still the one behind that right. A awful film full of full of no research in center field. Do we it out? And we are in Jones' about it. We're in a ground ball the second. No arm, geek on it. Up with it plays under any banks and Jones' eyes, besides we start in order. No runs, no hits, no errors. No runs, no runs. Going the middle of the sixth is. They turn 12 and the next five and the ovation is for a dothel. Have you heard what's going on at Gult Service Station?
It's big tire days at Gult. Gult dealers are now featuring outstanding values on all Gult tires. Big trade-ins too. Generous allowances on your old tires. William Stippled double to grab it around the shore and round it out short to per. Left hand batter.
A mave is having a little trouble getting his time from Jerry Grote. So he calls Sam and goes to the mound. A rather as crudder is having trouble getting his time. Nick Will, I started this game. Worked two innings to three men and a third and then Jack Lamayb came on. Worked a third of an inning. Jack Fisher worked two-thirds of an inning and now Chuck's crudder at the pitcher. Swing and drive up the middle end of the center field for a basis. So the split is got around. William's round first. Bluff. Continuing to second and Clean Jones breaks the throw any hold. Singular center for Billy Williams. Ron Standoff. And a two-run homer and a third. Then five club homers in the ballgame. One by Sam Tone, two by a hundred and two by a fillet. The club is one of the first game here today.
Five to three. That pitch is low for ball. Bob Johnson holding against the runner, Billy Williams at first space. Long way to the end. Now it's got a bench in the way. It's been taking the sign. Up and set, Williams leading at first. Two delivery and a two-carb ball. It's foul off up the third baseline out of play. Two and one.
Gary Nolan and Billy McCool will be the pitchers for the Cincinnati Reds. Had changed stadium Tuesday night. Tom Seever and Bill Dunney will be the Matt Pitchers. Then the Reds will be in for a singleton on Wednesday night. Then these Chicago Cubs come in for a week answer. It's Friday night Saturday afternoon and a Sunday double header. Two on delivery. Low for ball. Three and one not a santo. One way from the day it'll be the Cubs and the Matt's Sunday double header. It's Chase 80m in New York. It's a three-way off-ring. Williams is running. Pitch is high. Santo dropped a wall. No throw. Williams slides in seconds. Santo and outsides down to first. First walk is should by a strata set up. Run is at first and second.
For the Cubs. It's a three-way off-ring. Williams is running. Pitch is high. Santo dropped a wall. No throw. Williams slides in seconds. Santo and outsides down to first. The Cubs and brings up any banks. Strata, Strata, grounded out third to first. We're in the bottom-out of the sixth inning in the Cubs. Relating by a score of 12 to 5. It's high. It's off to that perfect level. It's fall in Jeep country. During the drive-in-to-fall sales event, get a great deal on four-by-fours that were fused to be contained. Do any bank. That's great. It's deep to the left. It's to be. It's going by, and it's what it's on. Across three-round home, our per-early bank. Home run number nine for any bank. It is a Chicago Cup 15 and the New York Met Five. Here comes West West, West come to the mound. West from it is on. He's right to the mound. He's got left handed down.
Shaw throwing in the bullfin. That's going to be off for a splatter. Nobody has for the Cup starting and the bottom-out of the six-litting. They lead now 15-5. And as the fishing change is made, the bring us up to the next-gen L-Sray Hughes Bob Murphy. All right, Lindsay. It drives me to your Houston. Slowed up Cincinnati winning the first game, 7-4. Way R winning his seventh harvest for loser. And the Astros are leading us on tonight. A 4-1 after 5 and a half on the second game. Volvolusky is a Houston pitcher. Jimmy Wynn and Bob Aspermone of it home run. Same lowest got a run in the ninth inning after the Dodgers had rallied for a tie. To defeat the Dodgers, eight to seven in the first game. Browse, the winner in release, Miller, the loser. The second game, it will be done, threatened against Little Owl Jackson. The Dodgers are out in the first inning. The Atlanta Braves getting a runoff won Meritchowl in the last of the 10-burning.
To beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-3. Jenny Lamaster, besting Meritchowl, a master now 7-1. Meritchowl is 19-5. Little Owl, if you had dropped it Pittsburgh, 14-1, butting one of the six games. The loser was won to Zaryl. In the American League, the Red Sacks beat Washington, 4-3 in the first game in Fenway Park. Sandy Aguid and Winter Ball to the loser. And the second game is tied 4-4 at the end of five. Osunki and Casey Cox are the relief pitchers. With Kurt Bruffery hitting a two run homer in the fifth inning, Baltimore leads Minnesota 4-2 after 4-1-1-1-1 in the first game of a double header. They were delayed a long period of time because of Raid before getting underway. The White Sacks topped the Yankees 2-1 in the city, and in the first game of a double header, O2 winning over Saddlemare. And the White Sacks leads 3-0 after 5 in the second game on a three run homer by McNurdy.
Cleveland dropped the Kansas City 12-1 in the first game to be out the winner. O'Donney here against Lindblad in the second game. That brings us right up to the A-Limsy. All right, Bob Mervi, it is Don Shaw. And the pitch is low for a volley work to serve in inning in the first game of the day. A lot of no runs to know it. So Don Shaw becomes the fifth-met pitcher to work, and Randy Huntley is at the plate. Here is the 1-0 delivery, and it is in Brook Stratk, the home run just hit by Ernie Banks with number 428 of his illustrious national league career. Now here is the 1-1 offering. Swangani and Underground foul back of third. Yet 1-2 to Randy Huntley, who has had only two home runs in a single in the ballgame so far. Ron Taylor is getting up to throw it out in the mid-bolt bend.
Nobody out for the cup. Here is a breaking-trick swung on, and Mr. Huntley has been struck out by Don Shaw. And that said, Savage is coming up. Walked with honor and error by Harold Sonan, and Underground, and he'll have to mentally score three runs today. Still home. After knocking in, the go-ahead run in the first game. That pitch is low for a ball. And Don Shaw, end of the motion. 1-0 delivery to the right hand, but he's was out in mid. Savage took a riffle of that. It's 1-1. He steps back out. Now exercise is a little before coming back up. This will be a 1-1 pitch, as soon as Savage is ready.
Ground ball to third, scooped up by Boyer, across to Johnson in time. Two away. Now Adolfo Fulton's is in the hero on the crowd today. He has batted in six runs in this game. He has turned into a couple of unbelievable catches in the odd field. Right hand batter. Here's a swing in a bit. Alright, go on. Don Shaw has come into each R2 consecutive batter. Huntley and Savage. Here's a swing in a bit. Alright, go on. Don Shaw has come into each R2 consecutive batter. Huntley and Savage. Alright, go on, bitch. From Don Shaw, end of the motion. One and one.
End Shaw starts to work. A 1-1 delivery. Swung on, admit. It's 1-2 now to Adolfo Fulton. Goat is returned. Throw goes on beyond on Shaw. Out in the short center field where it's retrieved by Jerry Poochek. Shark Heartenstein is waiting on deck. Phillips wants that ball. Look at that. Roll it around out there in the odd field. So I'm par a John Chibner. Takes it out of play. The 1-2 pitch. Swung on it. It's in the A of a center field. It's way back towards the wall. Play out. It's gone to the wall and it is.
Watch out for a 1-1 close out for a 4. It's straight on the bottom of the ball game. It's straight away to the field. It lands up on the Astro Turf. It covers a portion of the bleachers out there for a battered background. He has batted in 7 runs in the... Jamie is at 3-0 run and the club's are leaving by a score of 16-5. Art and sign is up and the pitch is low. And that breaks the string of scoreless earnings and scoreless accurses for relief victory down Shaw of the New York vest. Shaw giving up that home run to Adapoeville. It's a swing and a bowed-off. It's 1-1. The club's 16-5 in the second game of the double header. Comes one the first game by score of 5-3. Here's a swing and a ground ball up the middle. Again, that short by Hamilton over the barb Johnson, the side is off. But the club's picked up four more runs on three. The score is the sixth full inning. The Chicago 7-16 in the New York vest 5. The ovation is again.
Right off of foot of the defensive position. Barb Murphy will be allowing you just a moment for the play by a play. Right now he has a word from Reign Gold. The second goal is the fourth one. The fourth one, Kennedy Tower. The first seven-nine-three. The third one, the second one. The second one, the second one. The second one. 0-0-3. Clear the loose chase off. The captain's point in broadening. 4-7-5-7, Kennedy Tower. The intent to land a goal around. The 4-1-16. When you're in control at Kennedy International, there's a lot of rodding on what you say. You can't fake it. No. You can't fake anything. It has to be, you have to know it. You have to get it across to the foul because he knows that there's other players up there with him. So at a given time of day, you can come look at the radar sometime and you'll see your playing strung out for 40 miles, through miles apart. And it's a... A ticklish job that... The anarchist ticklish. It'd better be good to be on top in New York City. That's true of anything. There are 302 different brands of beer trying to make it in New York. 302.
But the only one that's made it to the top is Rhyme Gold. Rhyme Gold. In this town, either you have it, or you don't. Now we go to the seventh inning and wriggly field with the Chicago Cup. On the tremendous assault by Adafo Phillips, meeting with the ARGMAT 16-5. And Adafo got a standing ovation from every fan seated in the bleachers as he went to the outfield. He has had a day to remember. He's at four home runs. He has hit three at a row and when he comes up for his next time at bat, he'll be trying to shoot for the home run that would put him in company with a very select group. Adafo Phillips had a home run in the first game with nobody on his eighth of the year. Now has three in a row in the nightcap and seven runs batted in. Because of his seven home runs and the home runs have accounted for 13 of the 16 runs.
Jerry Grote up against Chuck Hartonspan hits the ground ball down the third. A big hopper on the final and the pay to first is in time for the out. Now Johnny Lewis will bat for Don Shaw. He never know it by looking at him out but there was a fam of the small game and the mess where I had four to nothing. Home run hit by Adafo Phillips off Don Shaw broke his spell for Don. Here's the picture on the way outside the Johnny Lewis ball one. Shaw had been one of the few bright stars, one of the few bright lights for New York on this road trip. Shaw had not given up a run and only one hit in the last eight appearances. Adafo Phillips hit a two run homer into the center field bleachers to break that string.
One ball, one strike to Johnny Lewis. Hartonspan is on for the fifth inning of relief work and is fouled off by a Johnny Lewis. One out and nobody on top of the seventh inning but Haroldson, the on deck batter. New York five runs, eight hits and two left, Chicago's 16 runs, 15 hits. Seven of the 15 have been home runs. A fly ball hit down toward the left field corner this foul. Just out of the reach of the left fielder Billy Williams and across the line in foul territory. One thing in losing all important in this grand old game of baseball. And I think one thing you dread more than anything else in baseball when you're on the road is
boarding a flight or a train for a long trip after losing a double header. Believe me nobody speaks to anybody. So Ralph, give a good book, old buddy. It'll be a long ride home. I got two. You might finish them both before we land. Count two and two, the pitch by Hartonspan, a swing and a wealthy strike him up. Hartonspan, he came in the ball game and the third inning he has given up one run, allowed three hits in relief. Now two outs and nobody on it brings up but Haroldson. But has a bunch of single in three times up. Tommy Davis, Ron Sloboda and Cleon Jones have driven in the runs for New York. Swinging a miss by but strike one. So it's nice to have a day off in this game of redeeming features following a bad day.
And let's do have tomorrow off. A ground ball hit the shortstop, followed pop of it, Jeff with it. Faced the first, Justin, and the other side is out. In the seventh, no runs, no hits, no errors, and then left. And a happy cut drive goes up the restriction and the seventh at the end of the six in the half. It doesn't 16 and the New York must fly. Last of the seventh inning, Ron Taylor is in the fifth hour for New York. Ron was the losing pitcher. In the first game of today's double header, as a matter of fact, Ron has been the loser and first begins with his series. Ron was brought in with a score tied, 3-3 to pitch the last of the eighth inning. Ted Savage with an opposite field single, broke the tie and then Savage still home with the insurance run in the
five to three wins. Bottom half of the seventh inning. And the lead off better, followed pop of it, the shortstop with two for fours up against Ron Taylor. No. I'm gay guy, I'm the second baseman. Well, the hitting side, get an end only with you. It's fall in Jeep Country and during the drive into fall sales event, get a great deal on four by fours that were fused to be contained. Well height, a lame Fisher, a strata, down shore, and now Ron Taylor. The Fisher's in the ballgame for New York. Eddie Crain's rule is now playing first base. Which means that Eddie can be leading off the other top of the eighth inning. A foul ball like out of play. Tommy Reynolds has gone to center field. The West Westrim has made three changes. Now the Fisher on the way, it is off the outside corner, one ball and one strike. The one-on-one delivery is off the outside corner.
There'll be a lot of excitement in this ballpark. The next time the doll Phillips comes up, the very select group that have hit four home runs in one ballgame, and even more select, four home runs in four consecutive times at that. Swing animals and the count is even good and good. Now the line to pat Taylor, the two-two delivery, a hard line drive in the left center for a base run. Run down by Tommy Reynolds, he whips the ball back in. And the cup has had their 16th base at the ballgame, the third by the lead off better par-pub-a-bitch.
Right here we pause for a station break, this is New York, my space ball network. Hi neighbor, if you're hard to wake up, let's just chanick-lear help you between 5.45 and 7. Farm paper with agriculture and garden news comes along as well as 15. Here on WGYs, connected. Brigadier Fio, where the cups lead in New York, 16 to 5. The batter is the second base for Norm Giggert and he's had a big ballgame, everybody has. Here's the pitch on the way. A high fly ball, well hit the left field, moving back on the warning track and under his Johnny Lewis and he makes the catch. The outfield now, the mess of Johnny Lewis and left, Tommy Reynolds is playing center. Bob Johnson has moved to short and he claimed the ball was playing first. We'll just have to wait and see where West Western puts the men in the batting order.
One out and one on Billy Williams coming up, Billy has three for four, a single double and triple. So he needs the home run for the cycle. Rob Taylor in the set position delivers off the outside corner ball one. But Halson has come out of the ballgame, he made the last out of the sevens and so Rob Taylor is sitting in the number one division in the batting order. Now the pitch on the way, a swing in a mess by Billy Williams, one ball, one strike. The big story of the afternoon has been written by the center fielder as a cup of soft Phillips. The one on delivery, Lane Drive, a face set into right by Billy Williams just fourth in the ballgame. A round second is Papa that she'll go on to third and the cup says, Runners at first and third and Ron Sennow coming up.
is the aggressive component of 감 COMMONSpperÜND. Lady Williams, This Lugging Cup Still not playing the same staple include that play forYeah下來 two. The Williams, the slugging cub outfielder, now has four hits in five times as fast. Brown Sennel coming up, Brown has one hit. That was a two run homer. In three times, up and he has reached on a walk. The home run for Sennel was his eighth of the year. Bannon now has 33 runs batted out.
Bannon has first and third one out as Ron Taylor delivers Sennel off the outside corner ball one. Ernie Banks beyond that better. The cub's waiting 16 to 5. They've hit seven home runs. The 11 runs of driven M13 of their 16 runs. Outfielder was runners on first and third delivers and it's a strike on the outside corner, one ball and one strike. The Metzle the Enfield now have frame pool at first, bootcheck playing second. Bob Johnson is a shortstop and any boy here is playing third. Johnny Lewis and Luffy O'Connie Reynolds in center, Ron Skelboeta and Ray. Here's the picture on the way and it's over for a strike.
Eddie Crainville will be hitting in Tommy Davis's spot. And Tommy Reynolds will be hitting in Clean Jones position. One ball is strike now on Sennel. Runner is at first and third to pitch on the way. A high fly well hit to right, drifting back Ron Skelboeta. Bob of its tag is third. The catch is made. Down the lane comes Bob of its with a 17 Chicago run. A run batted in for Ron Sennel is third of the game at his 34th of the year. Now it is 17 to 5 and it brings up any banks. Ernie hit a free run, Homer, his last time up it was his ninth home run of the year. And he said 428 years career.
The others won the opener, 5 to 3. They hit one home run. That was by a dog for Phillips. Swinging on his fire and he's strike one. Not many players in the history of baseball have it. Four home runs in four consecutive times with Pat. Our broadcasting colleague Ralph Keiner is the only one ever to turn the trick twice. Those great sluggers, as Luke Gary, and Jimmy Fox, Hank Greenberg, and Bill Nicholson, Ted Williams, swinging a mouse. The only player in the history of baseball to turn that trick twice. Four home runs in four consecutive times with Pat as our broadcasting colleague Ralph Keiner. One of those times Bob I got my last home run off Kurt Simmons who was in the fall game
here today. A lot of water has gone into the bridge. Here is the senior member among all major league pitchers now from the stand point of service. One ball and two strikes. That's the Ralph was that in 47 or 49. 49. 47 I did it. My last home run was off of a fellow from Boston named Red Barrett. I remember him. Now the one two pitch journey banks are swinging a mouse he's struck him out. Side retired in the last half of the seven. The cover speak up another run. One run, two hits. No errors, one left on. So at the end of the seven is now the Chicago tough seven teams. And New York must drive. We've had a busy day in the major leagues and Ralph will bring us right up today. Other teams. Well right here we got on a scoreboard Houston seven to four in the first game and in the second ball game
it looks like they got a chance to win two because they lead after seven and one half and he's by a score of four to two. Well, I'm keeping pitching for Houston in that second ball game. Lee now in for Cincinnati. Win has Romani and Coker had home runs in the second game. Ask Romani had one in the first along with five running. Say Lewis beat the Dodgers eight to seven to make their winning streak six games long. Winning pitcher was Nelson Browse. The losing pitch in the game was Miller. Parker LaFever had home run in the second ball game. Say Lewis for the Dodgers two after two. Sutton against Jackson. Bobby San Francisco four to three. No master. I'll do a one marriage all in that ball game. We play for Louis Jack Hayden maze at home runs. That'll often be fifth very 14 to one in the single ball game. Bunny the winning pitcher. The losing pitcher was Quasaro. Over in the American Lake Boston beat Washington in the first game four to three in the second ball game. Washington leads by a score of eight to four after six. At the end of seven Baltimore playing in Minnesota. They finally got that game going.
It was delayed because the rain at the end of seven Baltimore four Minnesota two. Dillman against Boswell. Bluffery home run in the fifth with a man on and the White Sucks beat the Yankees two to one in winning pitcher. Oh two of a losing pitcher was out of mind in the second ball game. At the end of seven the White Sucks three. The Yankees nothing powered now pitching and Hamilton. Magnolia home run the fourth with two on at the end of seven and one half innings. Detroit four California three. That ball game going along with Rojas now pitching, batting, going. Glimopy Kansas City 12 to one in the second ball game. Kansas City leads two nothing after two. Bob Johnson leading off of the eighth running hits the first pitch by a Hutton stand. A fly ball to right field that is taken by Jeff Savage. This crowd lingering around. They want to see Dolph Phillips come up another time. In the history of baseball nine players of its four home runs in one ball game. Many years as they've been playing this national past time you can see it is quite a feat.
Eddie Crain the whole batting for the first time in the game and the pitch is outside ball one. Eddie hitting and Tommy Davis is part of the batting order. Tommy hitless in two times up in this game and so his 10 game backstreet comes to an end. A ground ball to second handled by the second baseman gig on his close to banks to down. Two outs of nobody are now run. Slow Buddha comes to spoil the ball game for Ron. He had a two run homer in the first running to put the York in front, three to nothing. Here's the pitch on the way a swing and a straight one.
Two outs of nobody on. Heart and stand delivers a side arm pitch bounce slowly toward third charge by a center. Carole ball run in the first not in time. So Ron is on with an infield hit. The ninth hit of the ball game for the next. They had gone hitless over the last three innings before the offerings of rookie Chuck Heartenstein. A two out infield hit and it brings up Ken Boyer. Ken has one for three. Let's return to the York by their chartered jet flight following the double header here today. Tomorrow and off day the Reds for a double header two United five. Granted down to third and then oh has it. He throws the second to gig on for the fourth play that retires the side.
No runs one hit no errors and one left gone and at the end of seven and a half the Chicago Cubs 17 but he argmed five. This to volunteers volunteers in service to America are people to put their feelings on the line. You want America to be greater you want something to be done about poverty and prejudice about inequality and injustice. Okay, here's your chance. Some place in America there's a place for you where people are having a tough time. You will work full time trying to help. You will find out a lot about your country and yourself. Right this there box B Washington DC. Well we go to the last of the eighth inning and all Phillips will be getting it turned it bad. And when he comes up the hit this crowd is going to be right on the edge of their seat. He'll be shooting for four consecutive home run.
He'll also be shooting for four home runs in one ballgame. Randy Huntley has a single and two home runs three hits and four times up. Two runs batted in both home runs have been solo blasts. And there's a drive that deeps the left center back goes the center field or county Reynolds and he spaces for the on. He caught it right in front of the heavy on the warning track. One out of nobody on now Ted Savage will be hitting. He was the man of the hour in the opening ball game in the last of the eighth inning. He's single to right to drive home the winning run and then when he got the 30s stole home with an insurance run and a five to three Chicago victory. Savage has given the cups a left. Ron Taylor looked in for his son.
Ron has been hit hard in both games of this double header. The Chicago Cup ball club has good power. They can attack and make his score runs. Swing in a middle strength one. Leo gets any pitching. You'll keep this ball club hovering around that first division all year. He got a bad joke when he lost Kenny Holtzman who was five and oh Kenny is down the army. One strike caught on Ted Savage. Savage one for three in this game. And the pitch is low outside one ball one strike. The Scrowd is really going to go wild when Phillips comes up to hit. Because not only has he had four home runs in this double header. He's made a couple of circus guesses in the outfield. And the crowd has been giving him a cheering standing ovation almost every time he goes to the outfield.
A swing and a miss by Savage one ball and two strikes. Most home runs. In a double header the record is five held by Stan Musil. There's another record that Dol Phillips has a shot at when he comes up and he's the next man to hit. Outside and low two and two. So the record is that Phillips will be shooting at. He can tie a Musil as the only man in the history of baseball had five home runs in a double header. He can join a select list to a hit four and one ball game. And another very select list to a home run four times and four consecutive at bats. Fly ball in high in the air to center field. It's fairly deep. Back goes Tommy Reynolds on the warning track. He takes it for the out. And now a double Phillips will be coming up.
Dol Phillips. Dol Phillips. Young outfielders from Panama City has a chance right here to write his name in the baseball's record book in several departments and join some very elite groups. A double has home heard his last three times. He has given in seven runs in this ball game. Run Taylor on the mound. Here's the wind up the bitch to Phillips. A swing of a straight one. Phillips will seven out of the eyes in the game. Now has 38 for the year. He has the club leader. He had a home run in the first game today as well as a single. The only man in the history of baseball is five and a $1 family is here. Now the line to bat Taylor. Here's the picture in the way. A line drive face it in the left field. It's a single.
Johnny Reynolds up when it plays it back in. And a double Phillips. Then he says on a cheerful note, though missing the record book with a hard line drive single to left field. He has four hits to the road. Dolph over his three day has gone over 300. He's now hitting about three times. And a crowd yelling go go go as he gets on first base. I just had a chance to do some play by play to Vince Gunner who called up to find out what a dolphin Phillips was doing. Well, he missed the record book for Ralph, but he made a good run at it. And he wound up with a solid base hit for his fourth straight hit. You know, strangely enough, there's a block out there right now in Phillips goes to second base at the second block in this ballgame. Strangely enough, Bobby hit that ball hard enough that if he had been under just a fraction, it would have gone out of the ballpark. He really did. He hit that ball aside as the others, but he was another. He was sitting down on it.
Now Phillips after the ball gets on second. The matter of Spartans stand the picture. And the pitch by Ron Taylor of the drive to Schullow Light Center gets him for a base hit. Phillips around third is coming in the score. The 18 Chicago Gevera. And the fifth you're Hustlestand gets in on the out. So Dolph Phillips, his last four times at bat has had four hits and scored four runs. The Cubs of it. Seven home runs in this ballgame, accounting for 13 of their 18 runs. Last of the eighth inning, Cubs now lead by a score of 18 to 5 involved Papa Bits. The shortstop and leadoff batter is up. He has three for five. Cubs now have 18 runs on 19 base hits. A ground ball hit right at bootchecks.
Jerry grabs it, throws the Johnson for the fourth place, second on the side is up. One run to hit. No errors, one left on and at the end of eight onnings. The Chicago Cubs 18 and the New York meds five. Walt Perils is a truck driver from Montana. Phil Adams assails men from Chicago. Right now they've both got a new home. The jungles of Vietnam. They work at the same machine gun. They talk about a home. They've come through some nasty scrapes with the enemy together. Walt Perils and Phil Adams are good American soldiers. And that's a tough job. Long hours, low pay. They're proud to be helping the people of a strange country get that home. There's a chance to taste freedom. There's one more thing Walt and Phil are doing for America. That buying United States savings bonds have repainted.
Two American soldiers, fighting a war 10,000 miles from home, buying savings bonds where they work. Why not you? Now it's only New York behind 18 to five. The most runs ever scored against the New York meds in their five years plus history. Three times before the army has gotten as many as 17. It was the 3rd inning he was to get the win. Nick Will had the loser. Jerry Bootschack leading off as we go to the 9th inning. The pitch to Jerry is low. Ball one. Jerry has gone over 3. And quite a day for a Dolphal Phillips. home runs in the double header including three in a row and eight runs batted in.
A fly ball at high in the air to either the deep center field of wind is carrying it and it is up and over the center field wall for a home run. A very good check around third coming in with a home run. His seventh of the year he hit the ball to center field. That ball didn't look like it was going out at first. He had a strong wind blowing out in favor of the hitters all day and that one got up and got the eight of a tailwind and went over the atty and landed on the green batter's eye as the center field. War boot check number seven. Now Tommy Reynolds batting for the first time in the game. Bounces one foul off to the left no play and it's now 18 to 6 seconds. The second home run for the York runs will both hit a two run home or back in the first inning and things were exciting then because that home run made it three to nothing in favor of the muts.
Inside Tommy Reynolds one ball one strike. That's only the second run given up by Hartons stand in relief. Check a 25 year old right-hander. One one pitch. Little bit high at Tommy checks the count as two and one. Let's have to mile off to lick their wounds. Then all they have to do is face league leading Cincinnati on Tuesday night at a double header at 5 p.m. It's a stadium and Reynolds is one on the year to left field drifting back as Billy Williams. He missed judges the ball. It goes over his head and Reynolds is going into second day standing up. The only score to double the ball wasn't touched by Billy Williams. Let's now have eleven hits in the ball game. Jerry Grote will be coming up. Jerry won for three. He got an infield hit back in the second.
The Chicago attack today turning out 18 runs on 19 basis. Now Grote takes a look and the pitch is inside ball one. Golf Phillips and Billy Williams each had four hits in the game. Oh and outside two balls and no strike. It's just a very gritty foul ball against his leg. No play in the count as two and one.
Everybody in the club lineup including the pitcher of Harkinstan had at least one hit. Big stars, golf Phillips. Now the pitch on the way. Fly ball will hit the center field back to the center gargier and Phillips and this one is gone. A homerun. A two run homer by Jerry Grote. He hit his straight away. It got up and started to ride. Phillips went back and jumped as he could but he had no play. So a two run homer by Jerry Grote for Jerry his second homerun of the year. Three runs are on the top of the ninth inning. It now is 18 to eight in favor of Chicago. That's now neat. Only 10 to tie around. It used to be a very popular broadcaster.
The Cup games for many years here in Chicago named Bert Wilson. Bert was the greatest fan that ever lived. He used to kid about Wilson with a cubs behind 10 or 11 runs the ninth inning he'd say. Nothing to it or only 10 behind gang let's go. One ball and no strikes. The Johnny Lewis Johnny up for the second time. Johnny was struck out by a Harkinstan in the seventh. The next of now is three home runs in the ball game and that means we've had 10 home runs in this game. Chicago is at seven New York is at three. The two o' delivery is inside in low ball three and we're getting some warm up action now for Chicago as Dick Raditz starts to warm up. Harkinstan is pitching his seven-burning of relief. He started the third inning off and his pitch is over for his strength three and one.
Now, side ball four and Johnny Lewis has reached out of watch. So Harkinstan definitely is faring here in the ninth inning. It's given up a home run to boot check. A misjudged double for Johnny Reynolds a home run to Grotea and now a walk to Johnny Lewis. And pitching coach Joe Becker is on his way to the mound and Dick Raditz is coming in from the ball fair. So Harkinstan is going out after six innings of relief. At the moment he has given up four runs. A large seven hit. You can't remember what? Harkinstan is at the lead record forty-nine in the game. That's only one man he had good control going.
He's struck out three. Well they say Ralph the ten-home runs has an ice-cold-ig record for two teams in one ball game. That's right. I was just starting to look it up here. Dick Raditz coming in the ball game. Raditz was the winning pitcher in the opening game of the series Friday afternoon when the Cubs rallied scoring two in the eighth and one in the ninth to win by a score of six to five. So the monster six foot five is Dick Raditz's former ace farmer of the Boston Red Sox has been brought on when Harkinstan attires here in the ninth inning. It is now eighteen to eight. The Cubs attacked today. Billi Williams and Dolphill of each had four for five and Randy Hunley and Paul Pavlovich each had three hits.
While Raditz is warming up we pause for station identification. This is the New York Met Space Ball Network. This is WGY, a General Electric Broadcasting Company Station. It's connected. Bob Murphy with Ralph Canner and Lindsay Nelson. Ed Charles is stepping in as a pen-shitter. Ralph the National League record has been tied. What's the Major League record for most home runs? Major League record for Cubs. Two clubs in one game is eleven set by the Yankees against Detroit on June 23rd, 1950 in a night game. Well Chicago won't tie that unless the Met's tie is ball game. Which is a rather large order at the moment. Oh yeah, we could hit one. I don't know what I was thinking about. Charles is sitting for the pitcher Ron Taylor and the pitcher by Raditz off the outside corner, one ball went straight.
So if Ed can home runs in the ball game, one more ties the Major League record. The National League record has been tied. Now the pitcher on the way and it's up high. Two balls are distracted. Charles he is batting for Ron Taylor. Met's of now scored eight runs on a dozen basics. Swing and a Met's pitcher else in a fastball letter high and the count is two and two. Raditz has been bothered by a wildness of joining Chicago. However his last starting on Friday against the York he had excellent control and was throwing the ball hard. Pitching to and two. Look out. Fastball got away from Raditz and Charles had to hit the dirt in a hurry.
Chicago has used four pitchers the New York Met have used six. Four count and three and two. Johnny Lewis on first nobody out. Next pitch on the way. Get high in the air to center to feel fairly deep. The win may carry. Let's see. Phillips right against the wall makes the catch. The way that went has been carrying the ball in this ballpark today. Even a fly ball versus that one almost looked like it might go. It's blown out strongly to centerfield right now. One man away the hitter is Bob Johnson.
Bob has two for four and he hits the pitch high into the air. This one is the deep left field. Back goes the left field of Williams it may go. It is gone. A home run for Bob Johnson and the major league record for home runs in one ballgame has just been done. A two run homer by Bob Johnson. And this now is 18 to 10 ballgame. So Johnson is a new match to league record and it ties the major league record. Five runs are in the match trail 18 to 10 and the batter is Eddie Crainville. The match of it three home runs are on the ninth inning. For Bob Johnson that is his second since joining the match.
Now the pitch on the way a swing and a miss by Crainville is one ball and one strike. So five runs are in here on the top of the ninth inning. 18 to 10 Chicago the pitch by reddit on the outside corner. Chicago has hit seven home runs to York as it for a total of 11 a new nice to league record and it ties the major league record. Get him up in the air and that wind will sweep him out a ground all the second handled by get down the second base when he plays the bank two down. Of the runs here in the ninth inning the first four are charged to Chuck Hartons stand. So he gave up five runs. Hartons stand stands to get the win in relief. Rhymes will go to getting up. Rhymes has two for four and putting a home run back in the first inning.
That's of his three home runs and one inning. Flyer ball hit high in the air to right field and the right fielder gets that he's looking through the glasses. A veteran he likes to get and the day is true. In the ninth inning for New York they score five runs. They hit three home runs. Five runs four hits no errors and not left on the final score. The title comes 18 and the New York match 10. Now for the recap on today's double header the final day of the road trip for the New York match here's round. All back on May 26, 1964 the match beat the Cubs 19 to one and got 23 base in. It's taken a cup the long time to get revenge for that defeat but they have done it here in the second game with a double header. By scoring 18 runs on 19 base it and defeating the match by a score of 18 to 10. The winning pitch in the ball game was Chuck Hartenstein who won his first major victory. He has lost one.
The losing pitcher making his first strike for the match since coming to them from the angels who has Nick Wolle. Height his record now on one. The hitting star of the game and of the double header was Dolph Phillips who had three home runs in the second ball game and seven runs batted in. And he had also a home run in the first ball game for a total of four home runs in the double header following one short of the major league record of five home runs and one double header by Stan Muziel. Also hitting home runs for the Cubs. Randy Huddley who had two with two runs batted in. Ron Tano had one with two runs batted in and Ernie Banks who had one with three runs batted in. The home run by Ron Tano proved to be the turning point of the ball game. It came in the third inning and put the Cubs in front by a score of five to four and they went on to win it 18 to 10. Metz came through at the end to pick up home runs by Jerry Bouchek, Jerry Grote and also Bob Johnson in the ninth inning. And along with Ron's for BOTUS home run that came in the early part of the ball game in the first inning.
The Metz and the Cubs combined to set a new national record for home runs in a single ball game of 11. That also tied the American record set by the Yankees and Detroit. So real slug fast in the first ball game going into the Chicago Cubs and also coming back with another big win by a score of 18 to 10 in the second ball game. And the second ball game that Cubs 18 runs 19 hits no errors. Four men left on the Metz ad 10 runs 13 hits, two errors and they left three men on base.
