With Trey Hendrickson, Joey Bosa, and Haason Reddick still unsigned, is Kansas City positioned to make a late splash or is the draft their only path to fill critical gaps? The hosts explore under-the-radar free agent targets like K’Lavon Chaisson and AJ Epenesa, discuss why resigning Mike Danna or Charles Omenihu might not improve the pass rush, and debate whether doubling up on edge rushers at picks 9 and 29 is the boldest solution. Free agency is upon us. The chiefs have made some moves, but there is not much
left at the DN market. That's what we're going to talk about right now.

Chiefs podcast.

Lot to talk about free agency is kicked off. Chiefs made a couple of big
moves. One that I was I was expecting one type of move wasn't expecting for
them to do two on day one. But they have and but we're going to talk about
some defensive ins. What is going on with that market? And are the chiefs able
to do anything? That's where we're going to go today. I'm Chris Clark from
Chiefs Corner. He is rent racing for Minifil 33 and RGR football and
Rogan analytics. Let's get into it. The defensive in class. We kind of
talked about a little bit or defensive in free agency group. We kind of talked
a little bit about it. Jaylen Phillips got 30 million. You had an
Adolfo way got 25 and then the third one got 20. So
I'm off. Yeah. Yeah. 16. Yeah. 16 million a year for Quinty pay.
I was surprised that but that is the writers for you. Well,
writers are overpaying and I think they're overpaying because they have
the money and they need the talent. True, true. Kingsley and Ibari goes
to the back goes over to the Jets for 10 sim. It's a one year I believe.
Yeah. My guy came Tom Scott picked up goes to the Falcons on three
million dollar deal. See if he can continue to revive his career. A lot
of things mostly at the top of this edge class came off very much Jones
too. I missed him. Sorry. He goes back from Ravens to New England.
He's inside the division and gets well points something on top.
So interesting the money that was spent on this group. Yeah.
Absolutely. And you're sitting here looking at some of the edges.
Trey Hedner extends really the big name that's still sitting out there.
Joy Boses out there. Dauvin Dalvin Tomson. Well, he's interior.
Sorry. And then Hassan Reddick is another one that's out there.
Really at this point, though, you're looking at mostly guys that are
not going to be the type that you would really hope for. I mean,
there's been a lot of moves, but it's mostly been trades and re-signing.
I mean, Crosby got traded from the Raiders to the Ravens.
Sean Gary got traded from the Packers to the Cowboys.
Cleal Mac went back and now you're just sitting here going,
okay, so what's left and where can you go? Joseph Asai also got a deal.
Arden Key got signed. I mean, you're losing most of these guys
have already signed new deals with new teams.
John Frank, the Myers goes as well.
I believe it gets 21, something like that.
So the Titans leaves the West. So there you go. That's a plus.
Dietrich Wise goes back to the commanders.
We talked about O.A. Boy, I mean, it's just.
It's a lot of.
So it leaves me kind of feeling like this was pretty active on
pretty targeted group.
And now it's going to be.
I feel like slow for a bit.
Sean Gary got traded.
I think we saw that.
Try Hendrickson. I just.
I'm not sure that I want him at his age.
I don't know how effective he can be any longer.
Now, if he's around after the draft still unsigned,
he would give a shot because a veteran can come in and get to.
Some things dumbed. You got to pair him with a rookie, in my opinion.
Who else is out here?
And what's he going to be willing to sign for?
I mean, that's the, that's the big thing.
He was looked at as being a huge free agent type that people were going to be able to go out and get.
And some were saying over $30 million a year.
She started making that type of deal.
So that isn't, there's no chance that's happening in Kansas City.
What is he going to be worth?
We don't know at this point, but it's, it's curious. He's still sitting out there.
Didn't he leave the NFL and sacks not too long ago?
Not very long ago.
The guy that intrigues me, I guess we'll talk about the guys that intrigued me here in a little bit.
For, for Hendrickson and Bosa in particular, I do feel age is the thing that has caught up to them.
And, and while they do have accolades from earlier in their career,
I think what have you done for me lately has caught up pretty hard with those two guys.
Hendrickson will turn.
Yeah, I mean, he'll turn 32 within the next season.
Also turn 31, like I just don't know if there's going to be much of a market for those two.
But there are a couple of guys that could be like.
Each types that they don't have to pay through the nose for that they could bring in and rehab.
And I think we'll get to those next.

So chiefs made a move got Kenneth Walker got Tonga so you get your two biggest needs probably at running back in defensive tackle.
Taking care of day one and free agency now the question is and oh and let's not forget they also brought Travis Kelsey back four year number 14.
Now it's a question what do you do for the defensive in position, which was also a need.
But again, if you haven't already go check out locked on chiefs.supercast.com join our every day or club use code free agency to get a discount and go talk to us on discord and get ad free audio.
When we're looking at the defensive in group what's left is is the big question and the bigger thing when you start talking about what's left is what's it going to cost.
Yeah, cost is what it all comes down to and I think I think cones just went back to the Raiders as well.
So there's an update for you there's one guy that intrigues me he came out of LSU.
Kind of floundered for a bit but he's put it together recently and I think it would be a modest investment and I think you could try to bring him along a little bit further.
Caleb on chase on was most recently with the Patriots.
I don't think he's going to get much more than like six to eight to maybe nine something like that.
If that's a possibility he'd be a wave two wave three type guy that it doesn't sound like there's much action on right now that I would take a look at I think that's perfectly legitimate and he's young enough he's still 26.
AJ Epidnes is a guy that's hurt the chiefs a little bit I don't think he's going to have much of a market he's 28 but he's a spags type with the length and the power based game so I think that could be something hiding out there Joe try on Sri Lanka.
He voided his contract he's 27 so still young enough but I'm not sure there's a whole lot left there so kind of waiting on that as well who else is in here there are still a number of options I don't think that's on redics in our.
In our range right now I hope that he's not to tell you the truth.
Now as you turners an interesting guy I was going to say really quick interestingly Dana and many of you are still sitting out there both of those guys are probably week two week three type preage and guys if the chiefs would be interested bringing you back and I don't think either of them really push the envelope when you're starting to talk past rush so that is another reason why it'd be okay for me to just kind of move on from.
Both of those guys not that they can't give you snaps but they're not going to help with in the past risk department which is what you need you're not getting better right that's the guys on the streets you just not getting anybody there.
Marcus Davenport still out there but he's he's almost 30 already I did not expect that paint turners 29 power based game spin and Dallas like okay could take a look at that that's really about the guys that stand out to me everybody else I don't think Calvin only at 38 years old or.
That's not in my roster gross motos is 28 now think he's more of a stand up like LB I don't think he's really great with his hand in the dirt so I mean I just don't see a ton out there this is shaping up like it's more and more going to be on the draft class and we've been telling you that for you for a while you guys I think the market is reflecting what we've been saying is that they have to go get maybe not just one but maybe multiple edges in this class.
Yeah Zizzo's or Laurie's out there David a job. Oh but there's just there isn't really great.
You're not going to find and this goes back to what we've been talking about you're not going to find the cost benefit of signing defense of in that's going to come in and give you the benefit of being able to play at that premium position because they're all going to get paid and they're all going to get paid a ton of money and that's exactly what's happened.
And you know we'll see what happens but this is a situation where it would not shock me and I know people are talking after the way that for agency started I know people have already started talking well this means that corner should be something that they look at at one into at nine and 29.
Honestly I'd be okay if they doubled up a defensive in at nine and 29 just going to say I mean if you get the opportunity and I think I've said this before and I'll wrap with this because I know where it's I.
If Rubin Bain falls to nine go ahead and take him at 29 go get his partner bring in the entire Miami defensive front and put them with George Harlock to St. Chris Jones and Tom got now I'm good with that let Omar take his time rehabbing.
Well and people are going to say that mess the doors old you won't don't want to take him to the first round you have a fifth year option like I don't that doesn't matter to me at 29 you're trying to get better and you're trying to get past rush yeah he would be 30 basically by the time that his second contract would come up that doesn't matter it's a matter can he rush for the next three or four years can he give you three or four good years and that's what you're wanting and he's already played with Rubin Bain if you could get both of those guys that be a lot of fun.
I agree so let us know what you think let us know if there's anybody out there that you'd like the chiefs to go take a look at when we start talking about the defensive ends and we will be back tomorrow to cover more of the chiefs of pre agency and any more signings we will have you covered thank you all for listening today and we will talk to you tomorrow.
