Lockdown Chiefs, your daily Kansas City Chiefs podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network,
your team every day.
You can do with day two picks that really should fill out this roster and make some impact
on the players.
But we start today exactly where the cheese has to start, and that is making the absolute
most of the number nine pick.
That is a tall order for Brett Beach.
We're going to go through because Chris is out this week, but he did get the mock draft
on before he left.
I was unable to be there, so I'm going to do my own this week, and we're going to have
some fun with it, but it comes back to the common thing that no matter what, this pick
has to be handled with kid gloves.
It has to be done correctly with the most foresight, not just for this immediate season,
before the whole length of what will be a rookie contract depending on who that player
is.
And this is a difficult one.
Now I know Brett Beach did not make the selection of Patrick Mahomes, but he was highly influential
in it.
And that was a blockbuster trade.
The last time they picked anywhere near this pick, the difference is this pick is actually
higher.
And the pick they used to get a Hall of Fame quarterback in Patrick Mahomes.
So you have to treat it with that much respect.
And I don't doubt that he will or that the entire organization will.
But that's how much pressure is on to do the right thing with this pick.
And there are varying ways that you can go about that.
We're going to work through some of them as we take a look at some of the scenarios that
could fall our way.
And this is what's really important to remember is it's about scenarios.
It's not necessarily one thing or another.
It's about all of them.
And the closer that we get to number nine, we have to be able to project not just hours,
but other teams as well as everything that goes into getting prepared for this draft,
trades, et cetera, rankings, the whole nine yards.
So we're going to look at it today.
And that's the most important part.
I personally feel that as a general philosophy to make the most of this particular draft pick,
you have to do one thing.
And that is you have to make sure that you get value for this pick because this class is
very streaky.
There's a couple of prospects here, a couple of prospects here.
And it's not a straight, perfect board.
So you have to do your best to make sure that you can get what looks like value to you.
It may not look like it till a whole week.
It may be very, very different.
That includes what I think is the predominant thought that if available, you have to try to trade back.
And most likely, that's because your edge rushers are likely gone.
And I think probably the wide receivers that might help you are likely gone.
We're going to see how this plays out as we get to the mock draft, get started here in a minute.
But remember, it takes two to tango and that's that's a thing that I keep coming back to is
to do the best with this pick.
Brett V. T has to manage not just what the draft board is and what their priorities are in replenishing their talent.
But it's also about managing the relationships with the rest of the league and who might want to be moving around.
We might want to be moving up.
It seems that it's very thin on those options.
But we're going to export it because that's what Brett V. T has to do.
There's no way around it for him.
So we might as well take the same look at it that he does.
So as we load here, I'm going to stick with the tool that Chris likes to use the most, just for consistency sake.
And that is the the PF and so what I've done is load this in here with standard settings.
I'm going to go super fast so that we can talk this through.
And I'm just going to kick it off with the idea that trading up is most likely out of the possibilities for Brett V.
He needs to get maximum for this pick trading away more value.
Even though they just picked up a pick, I don't think is the way that you want to do that.
You want to either stand pad at nine, take the highest draft pick you've taken in a decade, or you want to fall back and try to get to the point where you can get more value for that.
Be a little bit more targeted with your selection.
So I'm just going to kick this off.
We're not going to look at pre draft rates.
And we're going to see how it falls.
And a lot of folks are going to be upset.
And this, this is a scenario that definitely works where in the top five picks, you have my top three pass freshers in our felries Rubenbane and David Bailey all gone.
That is the top tier.
Now I used to have a five man top tier because I wanted to say first rounders, but I have grown recently to split my board up into more tiers.
And those three guys are at the top.
The next two are relatively close to each other, but are definitely a second tier below and we'll get to those coming up.
But those guys have all gone as suddenly styles, the best athlete all around pound per pound in this draft class did go a little bit higher than I expect them to hear in this simulation, but that's OK.
Then you get carnal tape.
Caledowns goes and Jeremiah love.
So the top weapons in both Jeremiah love and carnal tape are off the board and tape.
I don't know that he fits the chief's.
Moxie, the buddy could.
And I think that that's a possibility.
So we take a look at the board here.
Francis, my I know I a lot of people have him as the top tackle.
I still don't.
I have it flipped here with Spencer Fano above him at that point.
But either way, I don't I think that's a safety pick for the chiefs if they were trying to do it.
They want to look at getting an impact player.
Mancer to length could be that.
And it could be a return to 2022 where they're trying to stock up on secondary players corners in particular.
That might be the direction.
I don't think it's going to necessarily be a safety in either a sentiment.
I mean, I like him, but I don't think that that's the way they want to go.
I do think McCoy might be on the table.
And so the trade down could be prospect here.
I don't think Fano goes that high.
I think if somebody reaches for my I know more power to him.
Same thing with Monterey Freeman.
Freeling so little experience.
You got to be careful there.
So let's look at what the trades are.
And this is something I theorized and I did not preset this.
This is what PFF is suggesting that the Los Angeles Rams might be willing to move around.
Funny, they just did a deal with the Rams.
And this may already have been discussed between Brett Beach and Les Needs.
So let's see what they'll give us for number nine.
And this is a crazy no-brainer for me.
And I think Brett Beach would take this as well.
Move down four spots to 13 and pick up number 61.
That is crazy good.
It might be a little bit past normal for this particular job.
They might be a little easy on the trade off.
So I'm going to throw in the 209 pick because we don't want to make that pick anyway, right?
The chief just traded away a sixth next year.
I think that shows you where their value is in moving around.
So let's do that right now and that will help us out.
We moved down four spots.
And what did we see happen?
It is McKay Levin.
The second on a lot of people's boards wide receiver.
I do think that there is another option here.
Mansour DeLing did go as we see that there.
Kenning Siddiq, this is a little bit high.
I don't think the Cowboys are going to be looking for a tight end, but he did go.
I think that would have been part of the discussion had he remained there.
Now, if I'm in the Oregon safety, he's still here.
I'm in real.
Reeling is still there that we discussed.
Jamon McCoy could be the best corner in this class.
Comes with risk the ACL.
We've talked about him a bit.
And there's Jordan Tyson who I think it might be the best fit at the wide receiver
spot for Brett Vich.
And I think they're going to have to make that determination.
So I think when you look at value versus each, right now, the offense is weighing a little
bit heavier than another corner with another injury.
Now that they brought in Kohu who has a similar injury, missed all of last year, two guys
on the same return path.
So let's just play around and put Jordan Tyson on this roster.
And when we get back, we're going to take a look at the next round and what we can do
right after this.
This is it.

Welcome back.
And what we accomplished in making sure that bread, veg, got value in this scenario, which
is just one of many, many, many scenarios, I think you did a good job in trading back.
And the accomplished that goal now we have an extra pick coming up in about another round
or we have 2940 61 and 74 plus one or nine and a couple others.
So that's where we have to get to now you everydayers know this.
We very much appreciate you.
Thanks for making us your first listen yet again.
And if you want in the everydayers club, go check that out at locked on cheese dot super
cast dot com.
Now it comes down to value.
Now we're down at 29.
Now this is a pick that if we hadn't traded out of the first, I think they would have traded
with the second because I think one way or the other, they have to move around that first
round.
There's a couple of options that seem very, very clear to me here.
What we saw come off the board after us came out to be really, I think a little bit
telling as we moved down, moved on, McCoy, McCoy did go manual, you know, Warren did go,
Thinman did go, everybody that we kind of thought there, Blake Miller did go a little
bit higher than I thought at 21, Omar Cooper, cash is how folk, Ken McDonnell, who is
my number one DT goes at 25 in this scenario, followed by Keith Mesa door, who is part of
the second tier of my edge rusher group.
So that is important and we have to keep an eye on that.
And getting proctor Peter Woods was my number two defense tackle.
So this actually fell how I have it on my board and that board will be released here in
the coming weeks on NFL 33.com.
You can get the matrix at Rogue APC right here and use that code LO so you'll get a nice
discount.
And the draft guide is being worked on as we speak, the rest of my crew is getting all
the grades in.
We've got the metrics we're on our way.
So it's funny that it fell the way that that I have it scoped out here.
And now we're on the board.
We have two to three options.
I think Denzel Boston just showed off at his pro day that he's got more athleticism
than maybe people think.
I see it on film and I do like him more than than a lot of people do.
Fringe first round player.
I think this is perfect for where he is at 31.
That could be an option if they hadn't gone with Jordan Tyson.
So keep that in mind for next time when we get to 29.
Yaccador, I do think a tackle could be in this draft certainly at the right tackle spot.
I think he's a guy that I do think has some volume to him and some upside to him in
it.
29.
If we hadn't gone offense first, we could have considered that.
But TJ Parker is the last edge in my tier two.
And he is here and available.
So that makes it a no contest.
We have to go taking because we have to have edge in the first.
If you missed my piece yesterday, you got to make sure you go back and check that out
because they have to have edge in the first, especially when the only trade down offer
is dropping another 20 draft fix.
So we're putting TJ Parker in here, a guy that has the length and the physicality of
the playing spag system.
And I think he gets off the ball a little bit better than people get him credit for.
If he hadn't worked out and we were back here at 40, Zion Young would definitely be the
next group that we'd be looking for along with Derek Moore and a couple other guys in
that group.
But now that we have what we see, we have an edge.
We have to get something done because we have at least three more picks to get done.
And I think it makes a lot of sense to now start to look at tackle, but also to look
back at that corner.
There is a possibility that this turns into a corner back draft.
Just like it did in Trent McDuffie, Jalen Watson and all the DBs came into play here.
And I still feel that at 40, the Angela Ponds is the strongest pick here.
Caleb Lomo might be an option.
It would involve a position change over to the right hand side would be my thought here.
As we look, I think the way that this is falling, it does make sense to kind of wrap our arms
around another guy that together with cohu could be inside at the nickel, can in a pinch
go outside as well.
I know Ponds can do it all.
So we're putting him on this roster as well.
And we've gone through our 40 pick.
Now we're down.
We're down into that area where it gets very, very differentiated for teams.
We are down at 61 and have, as you can see right here, just missed out on Derek Moore,
who was another of my tier three edge rushers.
We missed out on Eli Stowers, who was somebody that I would have been targeting at this
pick as well.
In retrospect, had we really wanted him, we could have gone back at 40, maybe tried to
trade down.
If that was the goal, which could be Brett Feaches, to have an excellent athlete at the
tight end position to try to take over from demand, Travis Kelsey, maybe not the highest
end goal here.
Now, Malakai Lawrence is underrated.
He has a great athleticism about him and he is a proficient past pressure.
If they wanted to double dip at the position, they could go there.
Same thing with Stuks.
I think he's more relevant as a corner back here in the second than people want to give
him credit for.
He could be there as well.
Danny Denson, this is a little high for me on him.
I don't know that I would pick him at 61.
So I think that's a little outrageous there.
Grayson Holden is a guy that I've talked about quite a bit as an inside past pressure that
can come in and give you some reps.
Mike Washington's a home run hitter at the running back spot.
Now, obviously, if Ken Walker on board, you don't have to have him.
Now, if he was a fifth round guy, you could just pick him up and roll and have redundancy
there.
But with a Marid Democrat on board as well, I think the running back thing in the top 150
has probably sailed.
So we're not going to consider that.
And I do like Dominic Orange and what he does.
I do like Elijah Srirat.
Remember what we've done to this point has been wide receiver edge corner.
We're taking off some boxes here.
My temptation is to go right back to the well knowing that we need either additional
edge help or additional detackle help in order to pass, rush the passer.
That's the key.
And I think probably in this situation, Mark Eilorans would probably be my pick.
But I don't think it'll be the chiefs pick.
I think they're trying to spread it all out and make sure that they're upgrading across
the board, especially on the defensive side.
So we're going to go down.
I don't think we have a trade down partner.
It's going to keep us where we want to be.
We're not going to take that risk.
The top edge defensive tackle pressure producer in this draft is Grayson Holden.
We're going to put him on the roster as well at 61.
Now we are down to 74 and have a little bit more varied options.
Which I think is actually kind of nice.
Still have Eugman Olsen if we wanted to go another corner selection there.
Zachariah Branch, a lot of people like him.
I think there's some questions about size and Tony Williams.
Maybe the same thing, but where do you line them up?
Dion Burke's same thing.
You're getting into this slot guy type area.
But again, we have a wide receiver.
So I don't feel the need to stretch there.
So what I'm looking for is maybe the next guy that we feel can pick up and become a weapon
for the offense.
And again, as we look, we've got a lot of defense.
And so I think we should look at either Zachariah Branch.
I do like him.
Claire's underrated enough.
Let us isn't, but I think he can play the role.
I actually prefer Roche a little bit.
And I believe he is available down here as well without having to trade down too much.
A bit of a reach according to them, but not according to me.
So I think I've tempted to take him, but just to keep it straight and narrow,
we'll take the best available per this board, like Brett Vichwell, and boom, we'll add Claire to it.
Now, we have to go get value, we have to fill out the rest of the depth chart
so that we have enough value to fill up and be able to sustain not just this season,
but the next season and the next season in terms of the salary cap.
We're going to get after it coming up next.

We appreciate you.
This is what we've done to this point, including getting some playoff caliber players from
Ohio State, OU, Indiana, obviously.
I like going back to that well a little bit of guys who have had success at the college
level.
I understand what it takes to get there.
Now we're back on the board at 109 just into the fourth round and a level that you can
get some serious value here.
This is where Jayden Hicks came in.
This is the Ronald Lajary.
Sneed came in.
This could be an impact player and there are a couple of options here.
If we hadn't just gone side in, I'd look at TRIG in the fourth.
I think that's completely accountable.
Caleb Proctor is a really, really interesting prospect.
I think this is a little high for him because he's coming from Southeast Louisiana, but he's
very productive as in the past rush at that level.
I think he's going to have a little of a leap to go through.
But doubling up at DI as an interior past rusher, I think that's important.
Proctor's a guy to keep an eye on.
I think it's more likely that he'll be available at 146, but we're not going to take that
chance right now because what we do have is back a quarterback, depth corner, and here
we have another true free safety.
A lot of Gilman is on the roster to be that kind of free safety-ish guy.
He can do it all in all honesty.
If you had another interchangeable piece, which Steve Spegnolo really likes, you might have
a better option to convert and subvert what the quarterback sees.
Bud Clark is a prospect that can do that 15 interceptions in his college career.
That's a no-brainer for me.
We need ball production in this Kansas City franchise, and they just got some by doing
that.
We come back down to the 146 level, and now we're looking at some depth.
We're looking at guys that we might be able to turn into something given a year or two
or something like that, and immediately looking at what's available here given this ranking
system.
I am all over a couple of different guys, and I think we're going to have some options
here on the offensive side, and I know we've gone a lot of defense, a lot of defense,
and that's perfectly fine.
Let's look at our one trade offer, and see if we have a trade back scenario to 154, I
could maybe consider that because the guys that I'm looking at, Zoom is famous for ticking
off Ruben Bailey and giving up some pressure, but he's a guy that I do think you can bring
along and can maybe develop.
Isaiah World is the same.
There's more of a system fit for a depth tackle in the end read system than I think Zoom
is, but he's there.
K-Tron Allen, love him as running back.
He's a guy that I've been looking at for a bit, so we might be able to trade back and
still pick up something that allows us a little bit of room here to get multiple things
done.
That's what I will be aiming at.
Let's just see.
We move back to 154.
I don't think that they can offer anything that we want, unfortunately, so we're not going
to do that.
I think what we're going to prioritize is just going off of this board and assuming
that this board is closer to what the league looks at.
I think we have a couple of options here.
Let's see what we can get done and we'll put a backup tackle in Isaiah World onto the
roster, see what he can do to compete.
We got lucky, and as we come down to 167, we still have the running back that I was thinking
was a nice day, three get to add to the room, keep the legs young, but Caitlin Black is
here as well.
There's two options that we have.
There's another option at the linebacker spot, Oh, and Heinecke, I think, is really somebody
that fits what the mold is for a will linebacker from tranquil through Bossa.
I think Heinecke has more take on, I think he has very good athleticism.
He is better than Jack Hocker and Christian Cole, I think he might be better than what
Bossa has shown so far, but Bossa might get an opportunity here, and I do think that
he is somebody to target.
If we get that opportunity, why don't we do this?
We'll bolster these weaknesses at the same time.
We will go ahead and knowing that we have two picks left, we'll take case right now and
put them in the backfield, and now you have depth, now you have guys that you can hand
the ball to and get something done.
The cheese might be tempted to take another quarterback to try and train somebody up and
get some trade value out of him.
I don't think that's the way that I want to go in this point.
You can see some other depth here, Caitlin Black is still here, so he did survive that
long.
Heinecke is here, and I think he can help us.
When Tavius Hutchins is a guy that I think they would have to consider as a value pick
here, especially if we still had 209, we would take a look at that.
Zane Durant, a good athlete, a good interior past rusher, another guy that could fill out
some of that D.I. past rush help that the chiefs need.
That's pretty good value for him.
I think he might actually go a little higher, as will my guy Skyler Gil Howard, but right
now, I think the pick to make is really, from that Oklahoma team, we'll take a second
Oklahoma sooner, put Owen Heinecke onto this roster, and let Dave Tobbe start what he
can start on special teams and get to the defense, probably a year from now, push Jeff
Bossa.
Be in the running, one-strew tranquil is no longer on the roster, which I believe the extension
does preclude next season.
This is where we got to by doing a couple of trades, turning it back in particular to 13
in the first, from 9 to get extra value, ended up with Jordan Tyson anyway, so we have
another weapon for Patrick Mahomes.
We come down to 29, TJ Parker happens to stay there.
After two outside edge rusher, perfect fit, I really like that one, so does PFF, by
the way, which is kind of strange, makes me a little nervous.
We come back with the Angel of Ponds, who can help not only just on the inside and be
a fallback if Kohu is unable to progress, but also can play outside, and would also be
there when Christian Fulton is off of his contract after this season, and I think does prepare
you for the succession that is in the future for that position.
Corner is definitely a need.
Didn't end up going corner heavy like I think the cheese might actually do, but that's
the way it worked out.
We come back with a local homosooner and Grayson Holton, the best interior past rusher
at the college level in this draft, and that is production you cannot lie with, so I think
that's a great pick as well.
Max Clarath, the tie-at-end, to be another possibility to take over for Travis Kelsey
when he retires.
We come back with a ball-hawk at the safety spot in Bud Clark to help, Alohae Gilman,
and try to get as much done as you can in taking the ball away, taking positions away from
the opposition in 2026.
Developmental Tackle and Isaiah were the guy that was once thought to be a first-rounder
falls all the way to us at 146 in the fifth and we snatch him up, see what he can be
coming at, great depth if nothing else.
When we come back with the half-back Alan from Penn State, one of the one-two punch there
that I do think can come in and really help this team in a pinch if there's an injury,
that kind of thing.
