I was looking before we started to get the exact quote. So I want to make sure we get everything correct because I noted the comments will get

3:06on us. So I want to make sure we get our, our source to direct you. Get on me. Yeah. That's fine. Y'all can get on me. Part of the quote from Trace Smith that has gone viral on chiefs social media lately. Quote, I just don't like putting my teammates out in a position where they're trying to take extra reps for me or leave my team hanging. Not being my best a lot of times. I'm a little hard headed in that regard. If I'm not at my best, it's not best for the team. The other guys are willing and able to do that. I've always been sort of a guy that's like, if I'm able to go, I'm trying to go and give it as much as I have regardless. Here's where it gets good. You're never going to feel 100% playing football. It's just part of the job and part of the responsibility. Like Eric, the enemy says we signed up for it at the end of the day. I signed a contract. So it's my job to be out there. JC Pearson, people are taking that quote and there's a little bit more to the story. We'll get into it a little bit as this conversation evolves, but people are taking

4:07that quote at the end of the day. I signed a contract. So it's my job to be out there and they're looking down the unit and they're looking at somebody else who has had some availability concerns. Do you think this was an intentional message sent or do you think it just kind of happened that way? Both. But yeah, I think it was a message sent because everything he said was 100% true. And yeah, you did sign a contract for a whole lot of money, right? And your job is to, if you can get out there, you got to get out there. I know I always talk about the old school and all that, but man, and like Tray said, you're never going to be 100% ever. Something is always going to be herving. But if it's not broken, if it's not dislocated, if it's not to the point where you can't just go play, then you got to get out there.

5:08You're not going to be 100%. So you got to, you know, to sum it all up, I think he sent the message to say, young man, you got tough enough, bro, it's time to go. You got to toughen up. Darren, I know you saw the chatter and I know you were on this when we were having a tackle conversation around the draft. You were saying, hey, I'm not fully sold on the rookie, the diaper dandy. It sounds like maybe his teammates are either. Well, a couple of things because I have a feeling I know where this conversation is going a little bit later. So let me get this part out the way first from one for me individually and someone that covers the team along as you like, if I have a question or if I feel like someone may be directed towards somebody towards somebody, I'll just go ask that particular player. I mean, you know, I'll just go ask the player themselves and I want to do it at a public

6:10setting, unless they're at the podium. So obviously I wasn't there, but two things can be true without what I'm actually being true. That is, it could have been a message sent to Josh Simmons through him, but the thing is, that's not to me, no entracement, that's not as M.O. He can just say something directly and as I'm sure he would have to, you know, to Josh Simmons, if that's how he felt, he doesn't need to go and say something at the podium because that's just not his, that's not the type of person that he is. And so, and so I think when he said that, he was talking most about himself because don't forget, we were wondering whether or not Trent Smith was going to go for week number one. And so it's sort of the fact that he actually played in that pre-season game, caught a lot of us by surprise, including myself and with that, the game, I was like, oh, damn, he's playing in the game. So I don't think it was a matter of him because he is the one that signed the big contract, you know, last season. So to me, I think he was just referring to himself because it was a situation last year,

7:13I think that he reverted back to where, you know, saying where he was hurt, I think the Patrick got hurt. I think Patrick had hurt these before or after he came back. And so, you know, I think he took the ownership of himself about being available and being able to come out and play and stuff like that. So while his overall message about the contract and what you do can be taken in any different direction and if you want to apply to Josh Simmons, that's up to you. But I think it was just more a situation where he was asking the question as it relates to how he is and the China that made him, because look, we were talking about whether he was going to be available to play for a week and let him weather that. Patrick to play, if we got questions about all these linemen actually playing. So you're talented there. Yeah, you're some talented. I hope you know that. You, you waste a lot of time for that. I'll be right back. I mentioned it like it. Last week when I was leaving that stadium, I was getting a call from Arrowhead about,

8:22yeah, you still here. We need to talk to you. So look, so what we've been talking about a little bit later. So what we've been talking about a little bit later. You got, you got, you got in trouble. No, no, no. We talked about a little bit later. What we talked about a little bit later, you know, more transition than that right now, because I think it's part of the conversation. Our good friend Nate Taylor, who we know very well, was at the athletic floor a while as Eddie S. P. N. He went on his platform and I believe the quote was some of the teammates in the offensive line. I'm paraphrasing here so don't hold me exactly, but they were feeling annoyed by some of the availability concerns surrounding Josh Simmons as they try to make this push for Dynasty 2.0. Then later in the day, we get this tweet from Nate Taylor quote, my comments on yesterday's podcast included inaccurate information after chats with those with knowledge of the situation. I was wrong to say that Tray Smith quote after yesterday's practice were in any way directed towards Josh Simmons. He took my apologies to Tray and everyone. He didn't send that under his own volition.

9:24He didn't send that because he wanted to said that because the chief said, come here Nate, we got a talk. We got a chance there. Well, okay. All wrong and a couple of things, a couple of things. One, you know, say because you don't like me promoting more than on platform so I'm not really going to be talking about somebody talking about their opinion because that's what it was. It wasn't an opinion. It wasn't a statement. It was his opinion on his own on his podcast that we don't watch or whatever. So Let that so let's put this so first of all it was still his justice of pain now his opinion his opinion was amplified Because because of you know because of who who his employer is and as I keep telling everyone else They watch this stuff and so and so when this when this stuff came out Yes, he got a phone call trust me. I know we get these phone You you've gotten the phone call before yeah, I mean less time forget you in the press conference You know Patrick don't throw them all the time I don't know you got brought them to the principal's office so so so so it does

10:29And so it does happen so I don't put that out there, but ask you so you can't so you can't you can't speak your mind you can't What I think is a hit dog hollas, you know, I don't I don't think you get to this point Look, they see all this stuff to Darren's point they see everything, but they don't call you in unless there's certain things Especially if you have a platform the size of Nate Taylor's I know you don't want to shout another platform But to me this is a situation she's trying to be very delicate with this guy They understand that he needs to he needs a little bit more than what is typical to get out there and trace This is almost giving voice to that now in this quote. It's it's it's not his platform via via the podcast is It's the company that he works for that amplifies what he because now Huttle cuz now now his byline is ESPN That's a different that's a different byline versus the athletic that that is still too different Darren if there was no truth to it, they would have just let it go if

11:29It was silly and if it was nothing they would have just closed their eyes and turned a blind eye or whatever to me They're reacting in this way show that there is a little bit of it's a little bit of something there So they're trying to shield Josh mentally because you know, I think you know obviously everybody's had that question and you know last year He had that issue. We still don't really know what it was But you think that they're trying to just make sure that he doesn't have to hear and listen to Extra criticism, you know, they might affect them mentally. I don't know. Is that is that where you're going? I think it's part of the equation. I think I think all of that I think It I think you nailed it when you said it right away JC. It's both. I think Trey maybe said something that I think I think Trace has said something that could apply multiple ways it has multiple meanings It's a double-untoned ran away. You can apply it to this situation or it can apply to this situation

12:33I'm not gonna say specific names, but the fact that we're at this point now from a team perspective to where they're calling folks in and saying hey That's not the way we're moving right now. They're trying to control the message in a way, which is what PR is that's part of the job That shows me that there's they're trying to massage this a little bit more. It was a day-to-day injury Yeah, and the thing about You know in terms of of Trace Comment message or whatever and and then you saying that yeah Trace the type of guy that you would go to him that that's not a Message at this point that you would go straight to the guy for for because because to be honest with you It can get heated it can get confrontational you don't want that in the locker room. So you don't you don't it's different if there's a You know when you're going to somebody and you're questioning their heart you're questioning their toughness your question

13:35You know the week one is not the not the time to do that. So if it very well could have been Him talking about himself, but also sending a message But Jay see but yeah, go ahead But I was gonna say the first side is though you say you don't want to take it to him directly But if you do it and directly through the media, I mean how am I supposed to take that if it's because me You don't bring it to me directly This is not the first time we've had this conversation because we've tried to get through the other ways Yeah, because the way you handle that in the locker room is a I didn't say your name if you want to take it personally that's on you maybe that's something you need to look at Right, but but I didn't Scott didn't call you out So if you taking it if you get insensitive and personal about it, maybe there's something you need to look at So that's how you that's how you get around that in the locker room and sending in message to somebody Indirectly and you know again not saying that that

14:36That's that was his intent, but it definitely works there in that situation Yeah, I mean and Gomit was again now while I don't think that that was his intent or or just that again That's what my pain versus George You know, but going back to the air. I mean going back to the NA situation again That's his interpretation of what he what he shot on his platform because when we talked about it last week You know, I think we talked about that. I think we talked about it last Saturday or Tuesday Following the game where you know where I mentioned that there was a chief's Ring of honor player that that was you know that was hitting the upper and that was upset about the situation with You know with with with Josh and nobody knowing I mean we talked about the fact that you go from day to day to now We don't know to the extent and you know you bring in all these other offensive linemen Yeah, questions would be raised now again While I have questions about you know is you know is his heart or whatever you however you want to have you want to view it

15:37That doesn't I'm just saying that doesn't mean that that was the message that that that tray put out there because again, I mean because look While while we're concerned about whether or not the team or players are sitting at the team You know, I mean the same could be said when we talked about Eric being in me calling you know Rashid Rice heart had it I mean, you know why why did it take the enemy to come out there at the podium to say something when he wasn't around You know when he hadn't been around and we didn't hear none these other coaches are in here or none of the other teammates Come out and and speak from the podium in that manner towards him So that's that's the only reason why like I say I don't think I don't think that those comments were geared Directly or indirectly to Josh Simmons now again Now again no now I can't You can interpret that way. I mean because We do

I think is very apt to what this conversation is. This is from Jim Music. The issue with Josh Simmons is no longer about his back. It's about trust. And I think that's why you start to get some of these talking out of both sides of your mouth messages from the podium. It's the same situation with Rashid Rice as you were saying, Darren. They don't trust Rashid, which is why every time they're at the podium, they call him hard headed. They tell him he needs to listen more. They tell him he's doing this. They're getting in the way. But Josh Simmons, the best ability in the National Football League is availability.

18:48And if I can't trust that you're in this hole with me that we're going to war together and you're going to do whatever it takes to line up on Sunday and fight for us, then I don't know where we stand. It's about being Luke warm. You know, I'd rather have somebody that's icy cold and Luke warm because at least I know where you stand. Josh Simmons, we don't know where he's at. I mean, look, you know, I felt about Simmons from last year as you mentioned earlier. I mean, I look, I'm concerned about what he's going to be available for next week. You know, but again, as I said that, you know, when it comes to us in a local meeting, when it comes to him to read and what he says, we just have to take the men at his words. Like, look, she's kidding. They can't have it both ways because, you know, they want us to trust in them. Trust what he said. Don't question them. They want to be questioned. They get upset about it. And then, and then, then you have a situation with Josh Simmons, how come you all aren't being on beat, you know, aren't asking a tough question about it? Well, I mean, you can't have it every wish different ways. Now, for me, that's the end of read and Brett reads a situation that they have to address. And like I said,

19:53I mean, our good friend, Jody Newsom, you know, feels like, you know, she's seen them and kind of bully the bully the player enough that he might actually show up for practice as we, you know, leading up to the game. So they start practicing again and playing the game. I don't know. But I pull out this. I think whatever situation is with Josh Simmons, it's going to come to a head sooner than we think. You know, the problem is, is yeah, you, you know, you hope that it's the start of the season. Guys are playing, heard, you see Patrick and everything he's done to get out there. You would think they, hey, man, I want to be out there. The other thing is they're tied. It's not like their hands are tied, meaning, you know, they've got so much money invested in this guy. It's, you know, I keep referring back. But before, you know, when there was no, you know, you didn't have the ramifications of the cap, if a guy was performing like this or not performing or didn't want to play, hell, you're going to move on.

20:55But you can't do that now because of the situation. Right. And so now you've got to try to massage the situation like, okay, well, let's get, you know, like, like, you know, you guys have said about Rush E. Let's, you know, let's, we got to play him because we got the money in him, you know, in a different time, if they would probably wouldn't have. But now you have to and, you know, a guy like Josh, they have a lot invested. So they've got to try to massage the situation and, and get him out there. And, and, you know, again, who knows? We don't know what the situation is other than supposedly is back. But, you know, we'll see, we'll see next Monday. Right. Yeah. And that's, and that's nothing in Jason, you know, the former player like the, the one injury that you can't do an MRI or anything for it. And if you say you hurt, they just have to take it to a word for is your back. You know, and, and, and it's like you can, it could be something else wrong. But the back is the cover, you know, saying that allows you

21:58to, I mean, you can't really question it because, you know, you go in for, you know, if I tell them, man, if I tell you my back is certainly going and they try to send me in for a scan, they're not going to be able to notice or see anything, you know, under X-rays or anything like that versus, you know, if you got a tear or a pull or a strain and so on like that, they can, you know, they can do a scope and see that when it comes to the back, you know, your back hurt. No, I mean, and that, and Jason knows when, when you're in a contract situation, which he isn't, but like receiving stuff, that's, you know, they tell you don't get out there, but if, but if you try, but if you're arguing with the, with the team versus you go say, your back is hurting. I mean, they, and they just have to take it your word for it. This is a straight line to Patrick Mahomes coming back and feeling his best and feeling protected and feeling like he can go out there and, and run the offense. I mean, the tackle situation, they have not got in the four years that I covered the team in KC plus the two years away. They were revolving door at tackle and then we talk about the run game as well. We still have no idea that the opener is

23:00nine days away. We're recording on the fifth Saturday. We don't know who the front five are. And y'all tell them we didn't go out there and handle the different Broncos. Come on. I said, they go wins. Nobody handling. Man, it, you know, if Josh doesn't play, I mean, we know who the tackles are going to be because the new guys that that have come in, they have not been here nearly long enough to, to know the system yet. Even if you, you, you taper it down to a game plan, it's still a lot. You got to know the checks. You got to know everything. And, and, and there's no way that they can do that and be ready and confident. So, you know, obviously if trade doesn't go, then they've got to play, you know, Jalen and Benson, you know, I mean, and that's not good. You know, from what we've seen thus far, but, you know, it's tough. But, but I, man, I'm hoping and I'm, I'm, I'm thinking that he's going to show up because the thing that as a player, when you're

24:03hurt or you, you know, whatever the case may be, when you're not playing, you're not practicing, you almost feel like you're ostracized. You do in the locker room, everybody's getting ready to go to practice. They're practicing. You're not, you know, I mean, they're not talking to you because we're trying to get ready to play the game. We're talking to the guys that are, are going to play in terms of here's the plays we're going to run. Here's what we're doing. Here's the checks and you're just kind of there because you're not playing it. It makes you, you, you really are ostracized. And a lot of times that makes guys go back and play because I don't want to feel that way. And hell, we've all been there before and you're like, sheesh, you know, they make you, they just walk right by you. Don't look at you. Don't speak to you. Don't, you know, you're like, damn, am I still on the team? You know, and it's a bad feeling. So, you know, that's one of those things trade was talking about too about, you know, just, you know, you want to be out there because you feel like you letting everybody down because they look at you or don't look at you like, man, you know,

25:08that I to that, uh, uh, we were talking about there, a piece of two point else. Darren Peterson, by the way, but, uh, on a man, look, I think the trees put, well, they put themselves in play. Does he play week one? Does he play week one? JC and Darren does, does, does Josh Simmons play week one? Yes. I said, I'm saying yes. I'm, I'm giving the young fellow benefit of the doubt at this point. He was at the luncheon or whatever he started. He's around the team. He's there. I hate question in heart. And I don't want this to be like what this turns into. I like, they're in the top one percent, one percent professional athletes. They can do things that I can't do. I fully recognize that I understand that guys play through things or different between being hurt and being injured. I completely understand all these things. But when you're drafted to be to franchise left tackle for Kansas City and they're making this, this, this dynasty 2.0 push, Kelsey, my homes,

26:09everybody on the same page. And I've been around the media long enough almost 10 years now. People don't just say things at the point. You don't just say, that's not where you slip up and have like a, uh, you know, a, a loose tongue. You know, they coach you specifically before you step up to that podium or what you can and cannot say. That's not a situation where you just get Lucy Goosey. So when I read these things like, and why I have no choice but to read in and assign them to certain things, I'm going to be honest, I think he plays, but I think to the point of our, our episode is patients wearing thin, patients is wearing extremely thin. And it's all on if we're doing the Rishi rice meter, he's not all the way there yet, but he, he, he getting close. He, inched his way down. So, Anne, I'm going to, I'm going to actually decide with you. Now why, both of you all, but I do think he plays what night he starts is going to be interesting, but I do think he plays. Um, and I just, again, to me, I think that he's put themselves in this

27:10situation last year without really addressing, well, we don't know what they really did behind the scenes and publicly as a relates to addressing him, you know, being away for so long or whatever. And then coming back and then really just putting them right back in the start line of them. So, I'm not sure, you know, where the accountability was in that. So, I look back, I do know mental health is real. So, so, so, so I'm also not going to be one that's going to be attacking them like that because, you know, knowing that we do go to, you do speak to these players, they do read and hear a lot of stuff and so it does have an effect on them. I'm just going to say that I hope he plays and even if he, even if he doesn't with some reason play, questions must be asked of Andy Reed, asked to what, you know, what his situation is, is it his back, is it something else in the back is being used as a cover or what because, I mean, this, you know, you can't, you can't go into

28:11another season, you know, having doubts and questions at that position, especially when, you know, you're going to be looking at Brett Vich throughout the year, like, are you going to make a trade, what are you going to do? And then we start questioning the offense and stuff like that. And whether or not they input and point to the board, they're not going to come in the football, they can't protect Pat and we have this conversation to hear every week all over again. Yeah. What are you laughing at? I just think it's so funny because I get all here not talking about holes in the ship and things not looking right and, you know, let's try to get our house in order before week one and nine days out, we have in the conversation and they call the reporters into the principal. That, that type of stuff doesn't happen. Like the Tennessee Titans had a little dust up this week around that same situation where they revoked a reporter's credentials. That's not, that's not what a YouTuber or two you were the one. That's not what, I mean, we YouTubers too, where you think we're streaming on right now. I don't know. We have a gym media too now. So how do I say something? Hey, how do I, let's

29:14keep it a bite with it. We live, did legacy media too. Let's put that to you. That's what that told you. He's not in the door. I just, yeah, I did. Usually, especially when the cheese were in their heyday and I covered them in their heyday, I was at 57 and 58. I was in the locker room after the gig. They had the most covered you could imagine. I mean, when you're a super ball team and you go on back to back, it's not just local media, national media, international media. You think they calling these people into the principal's office to ask them about paragraph three and their most recent column? No. The teams and people who do that, that, that, you're not focused. You're clearly focused on the wrong thing. You try to, you try to micro manage. When the mother ship was moving at maximum speed, what nothing stopping that a moving full steam ahead, they went in football games, but they not went in football games right now. Maybe it changes, maybe it changes. I put you down. Nobody won't get. Yeah, yeah. But, you know, but that's how it is. And, you know, that's how they've always been. You know, they listen to everything. They watch

30:16everything. And if it's, you know, and they, they try to control the narrative, you know, they've always done that. We all know that. And, you know, sounds like Nate got, uh, talked to Darren, Darren trying to not get talked to. I got to talk to Friday night. I got to talk to Friday night. Uh-oh. We'll get to more your comments. Questions, criticisms, and concerns a little bit later. But let's talk some dollar figures now. And it's around Trace Smith. Once again, since we last recorded the Chiefs converted $18.5 million of Trace Smith salary into a bonus creating $12.3 million of cap space for this season. That is the headline there. So we were talking before. Maybe Christian Fulton was the move. Christian Fulton stays on the 53. So we know it wasn't going to be the money there. I'm sorry, JC. I'm just giving the timeline. Christian Fulton. So we knew they were going to try to find some maneuvers. And as we talked about some holes on the ship. So where can they find some maneuvers from it? It's the Trace Smith deal. And I think it was conversation between this and

34:35Creed Humphreys money potentially. There was only so many guys they could really choose from as far as kicking the can down the road. And Trace Smith is the guy they chose this time. $12.3 million. And I think they're cap compliant for this upcoming year as well. We're missing our cap guy, Chris Clark. But what do we think about the Trace Smith restructure? What does it leave the Chiefs now? What would you like to see them do with some some some free money, JC? Well, I don't if I understood it correctly, they needed to do that just to get cap compliant, right? And I think they're only it's still after all that only a couple million under the cap. If I'm concerned or a couple if I understand right. So correct me if I'm wrong there. But but obviously, you know, whatever money you have, you're looking and I give Brett Beach credit for that though, because he's always done that in the past where they identify in a need an issue. He goes and tries to address it and I give him full credit for that because not a lot of GM's do that.

35:41Especially ones that we've had here in the past. So I give him a lot of credit if there's a need and an issue that this team really has. He's out there trying to find a solution or or stop gap or something. So I fully expect him to use that money this year quickly. More information from Matt Derek does a great job over at Chiefs Digest that Chiefs have 13.8 in cap space after the Trace Smith restructure. That's 25th most in the league Trace Smith has a 34 million dollar cap hit in 2027 and 2028. So that's the price of trying to free up some room now. You got to you got to pay the paper at some point and that is a it's a hefty hefty little deal there. Granted, he does stood up when when it's time to play. You know, you know, he's Are you going to go back to the press conference? He said it himself. I'm just quoting him. I'm just going to get you know, you'll get your money. But Brad, I think I'm a lot of you. I know Aaron's phone

36:46number. So yeah, I want to call him in before you have that call out to me. But that you know, that cap number, although it's huge. You know, down the line a few years, it shouldn't be as huge because every year the cap goes up. You know, and so it'll hopefully be a less. I mean, it's still a big number. But you know, down the line, the cap probably much be much more and it won't be as big of a hit as it would be right now. Yeah, but the only fifth side of that though is that he's not the only player that they you know, that they continue to restructure. I mean, as much as magic as as restructure. I mean, that's a lot against, you know, a lot that you put on a credit card for these upcoming years. That still kind of doesn't leave you much to to to improve the team along the way. Now, I think we had time. We actually, you know, we actually said that if there was someone who would have the country structure would have to be the he or

37:48Chris Jones. And the fact that that they made this move, this post to the season, you know, kind of things, you know, yeah, they had to be cap compliant. But no, they had to be cap compliant at the start of the NFL season, I believe, or or camp or something like that. So they were already, they were already compliant. But yeah, I mean, this situation with him, I mean, with the way they can do that they can sign, I mean, I don't really know who's out there that that you would get within these next couple of weeks that you could sign a possibly have, you know, unless you're looking at working at a trade before the trade deadline, and you can have have have some maneuvering capability there. But I just don't see anybody right now. I mean, look, and to be quite honest, you don't need to find somebody if there's continued questions at a certain position too. So the problem is that position is if I got one, I am not giving them up. Yeah. And with three million, which is again, again, which is, which is why the chiefs have been

38:51heard themselves over the last few seasons and because again, don't forget a couple of before Josh Simmons, they thought Kingsley was going to be, what's going to be the answer at left tackle. And before him to an extent, why not more in my Johnson guy from, yeah, no, no, what you mean? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No one was always right. When they initially signed, they thought about putting them in the attacker, but he was always the right tackle. So that was, so that was never really, that was, but I've always talked about trying to, you know, If you're going to get one in the draft, make sure he's good. Because otherwise, you need to find you a Larry Tomso, you know, the guy, the Williams guy. This year was the highest chance they had of getting a guy like that. It had passed for a DB. Well, because they lost two of them. But the thing is with him, you know, and they've been, you know, having to pick so low

39:55because they've been winning so much, you know, so that all the top ones are gone. But with Josh Simmons, he was projected if he was healthy because he was coming off that knee injury at that time, right? Too. So it was the, you know, it's a shot that, hey, if we take this guy, he's projected top five. If he was healthy and everything played well, he fell down to them where they were at the end of the round and hoping that, you know, everything worked out and for a while there, it did work out. And it looked great for a while. And it looked like they really got a steal, but, you know, and then some, you know, some other things started to play a factor. So, you know, it's hard where they were drafted to say, hey, we're going to go get a franchise guy because all those guys were gone already. This year, like you said, yeah, this year was the highest that they could have, but you lose both your starting corners. The corner market was not very deep. So we had, you know, they had to go there.

40:56But they also spin a first round pick on this guy too. Like he wasn't, he wasn't, he was value because of the injury concerns, but, I mean, but he was back into the first round. Hey, huh? At the end though. I don't have, because the Chief's Gotten Department also, and you got a while receiver of value in the second round, but you also lose some of them off the field stuff too. And you still get chance on it and you still have some off the field issues with them here. So I mean, so, so again, as I said last week, there were already concerns about Joc Simmons and certain situations, you know, up in Columbus. And so, but they still decide to go with it. And when certain stuff happens, we're here where we are. Well, you take a shot, but, you know, it'd be interesting to see what tackles were taking after him. And again, we all know that the draft is, is, you know, not a direct science or whatever, you know,

41:57you don't, there's some stuff that you don't know, and you miss guys, but I wonder what tackles were taken after him in that draft that are now starting left tackles and doing well. I don't know. So, you know, what the options were. So. I also wonder if the Benson experiment was, because they already kind of knew the way things were trending and wondered if they could get value out of him specifically. You know, there are some things that we were kind of scratching our head about where it's like, you know, especially when you're sitting in the seats that we're sitting in, we don't have all the information. We have to read the tea leaves. We have to dissect the quotes that come from the podium because that's all we get. When you give me a crumb and that's the only thing I got to eat, I got to eat. So I wonder. I mean, technically, technically, you can't go into the locker room with your microphone. Ask them questions too. So I'll be there. Okay. I will be there on September 14th after the Denver Broncos game.

And you know, I let me some Jason on these players. I didn't grow up a chiefs fan. And even as a part of the media, I'm not a chiefs fan. I'm a fan of the players.

44:00And I do like a lot of the people that we have to interact with. But my job as part of the media is not to prop up the team. That's not my job as a call balls and strikes or be truthful to the audience and to the facts that they come before us. Growing up, we grew up. When the chiefs were bad in the 80s when I was growing up, I was a church. And so by the time I got home from church, in his three o'clock in the afternoon, we're watching the 49ers of the Cowboys on TV. Not the chiefs because the chiefs were playing in noon. So I didn't grow up watching the chiefs and had that oil like everybody. Like a lot of people do right now. And so when I started covering the chiefs, and I always say the chiefs success helps our success because it makes going to the civil world, other stuff much, much easier. So if you think myself, you're going to be someone that's going to pump it to a chief's

I mean, you can interpret it's still keeping it, keep it, thoughts to yourself. I'm just saying. I mean, I, you know, that's, you know, I mean, you can, you interpret the way you interpret and then how you put it out there. It's how you put out the, you have to reap, you know, saying whatever consequence comes with it. And that's a little situation that I guess the name was dealing with. But, but the thing is, you know, the, the texture says, you know, he imagines that Trey was pissed. You can imagine that Trey might might not have been pissed. Trey might have been like, yo, that's what I was, that's what I was talking about. Yeah, Trey might have been cool, but the chief, but the chief, everybody was mad. Yeah. Somebody, the reason that Nate put that statement out is because someone was upset whether it was Trey, whether it was Josh, whether it was Andy Reed, whether it was Andy Heck, whether it was Eric, you know, me, somebody's going on and said, we're putting a Kybosh to this.

48:11Yeah. But you know, here's the thing, you know, you make it all go away. Come out and play on September 14 and play well. I think he's going to be there, man. I really do. Well, I'd be surprised. Yeah, yeah. Look, I, I'll be there for his sake, not even for the team sake, you know, because again, we, we talked about mental health. I want him to be for him to come out. I want him to make sure that he is okay, you know, saying mentally and physically before he steps out there on the field. Because if you feel like he's being pressured to be out there on the field, he may not be playing with a clear head and that can also get Patrick. I know. At a certain point, you got to get pressure. Oh, dog, this is your job. Oh, we're not here for fun. This is your job. I'm just high pressure job. You know what you're getting into and physically, I don't think it's a problem. I don't think I'm protected. I'm too.

49:11If it's, if it's, bro, they have stuff to help with pain and all that stuff too. You took it. We said, we're taking a shot. Man, and took stuff every man. My last two years took stuff every day. And that goes back to first. Well, the cheese got to access to that account. He got access to a phone like this show you cheese and mass of the president. We got to make sure he's not being honest. Yes. All right. Let's keep going through our chat. Why do you guys get back on that might have been one of my favorite moments of this show all time? This is another angle of this whole Josh Simmons conversation. But I do think it matters. I do think it matters. Texture writes in unfortunately, Josh Simmons is one of the new way college football players. They win NIL money and then they bail out on their contract in their second year.

50:12I don't agree with that exactly. But I don't. I do think that the I do think that there is an age and generation factor into this. JC's back with. And she's got to you. What happened? I just seen you guys laughing and I just got disconnected. She's press from strikes. We're talking about we're talking about Josh Simmons being in kind of the new era of college player. I do think the generation kind of matters here. Like these guys have been paid already. They're not getting their big paydays in the NFL. They got in their money. They see the game a little different way. You look at this happening in the NBA as well. The players are a you graduates where they've been they've been professionalized earlier. So when they get to the pros, it's not this bright eye. I'm going to be pressured into playing the same way it used to be now. If that kind of adjusted and they have taken back some of the power as well. Josh Simmons goes to them and says, I'm not feeling right.

51:13And and he's the one that's kind of controlling theme versus the chief kind of being on the other end. I think the the timing of this whole thing does play a factor. I don't want to agree with that. Only because I mean, you might have a little bit more leeway and cause where you can up and leave with it. But you can't you know, you never ever done working in a field because at the end. That's funny. At the end of the day, you know, saying the NFL is always going to win. I mean, you know, look, they want against Tom Brady and others. They, you know, their money is long. Well, whatever he feels like he's doing again, whatever he feels like is working or whoever's in his ear, that's one thing. But it's not going to work out. He's not going to win against the system. If you want to look at it in that scenario. So what what money he has again, it's not he has life changing money. But you also want to be in a situation where that money can run out quickly, especially, especially in the world. And the times we leave it now, he needs to get to a second contract before he can start thinking he's got any F.

52:14You power. And right now, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen. One more angle I want to look at this and JC, you can hop in on this. Do we look at each differently now because this is another early round pick that we're having. And some uncertainty, texture from Azul writes in, beach laughing at the idea of taking a tackle in the post draft press conferences are really, really bad. Look right now. There the misses are notable. The misses are notable. And if this trends to be another one at another key position, does that change how we look at the Chief General Manager, JC? I don't think so because you look at their success. It all has to stem from him because he got the personnel there. You're not going to hit on every draft pick. And then when you are drafting where they have drafted so often at the end of the rounds because of their success,

53:15you know, there's issues there. And, you know, so now you and then you at those times, you're not reaching so much. So now we can take some chances because we don't have to reach or we don't have to have a guy that is a for sure guy. We can reach for the ceiling who may have a higher upside and see if we hit and if we don't, we don't and move on. Because at that time, they were not as in the situation they're in now where they had so many holes to fill. But it happens, you know, I mean, you know, in this day and age of cap space and like you said in a couple of years, it's going to be ugly again. You know, I mean, it's, they're in that situation every year. The Rams, I don't know how the heck the Rams are doing what they're doing right now. But in the coming years, they're going to, they got to tear that whole thing down, right? Is he, they got to win now because it's all going to come to a head when you look at all the money that they spent.

54:19So you got to try to manage it. But if you want to win now, you got to try to, it's tough. But to answer your question, I don't think so. I think you got to look at him and still give him credit for the super balls that they did win. And, and then taking the chances and that's all you can do. Well, I mean, it says, I mean, we can reach out by the rounds and you know, the whole afternoon fixing, but even when they did it, they want to super both. It's not like they had any rebuilding years. I mean, they, you know, they were still in the playoffs and, you know, cherishing, they just, you know, maybe he feels short. But that division is tougher. That division is much tougher than the year. I know, no, I get it, but, but I'm saying, but, but they, but they, they, they worked on draft picks and whatever they need to do to get, to get staff for there. It paid off in the Super Bowl that same year and they still been in, they still been in contention every year. And they're right back in it to where the super favorite now. So, so I mean, you know, I mean, looking to achieve the benefit of Super Bowl contention eight out of the 10 years that Patrick has been, has, has been here.

55:25And, you know, and eight of nine years minus last year that they haven't been, you know, in the ASC championship games. So, you know, at the end of the day, you know, I mean, he's still, you know, Brad B still has done, you know, has done enough to, you know, warrant the, you know, want to benefit the bell. Yeah. Yeah, I feel bad for our guy. Yeah. I guess you're right. So, somebody just putting a, you know, putting them in a head like like you. They're saying, hey, they're saying, hey, don't, don't let these jokers get you in trouble. But no, no, I'm here. This wine bar is not the best. So I'm back after another texture writes in this year is truly Super Bowl or bust. If we're not winning a chip, I'd rather bust out and get a hydraphic with the amount of quarterbacks and why receivers coming out next year, a tackle could be attainable. I was thinking, well, I mean, you got some high picks for the next year anyway, but I mean, what all the teams that are looking for, I ain't going to. I mean, if the chief somehow got bad one, they're not going to get a super quarterback. I hope they be bad. If they're going to be bad, be bad if they get your, my Smith, that's it. That's the only player you need to be bad for. I get him before I get a left tackle. But, you know, that being the case, the chiefs have always been through all the busts since, since 2018. So, I mean, that's that's that's the only way they're thinking. So I can't, you know, if they're bad, it's just because. Yeah, but 10 and seven and an elimination and a wild car around that doesn't help you getting back to a champion. I think that's what the texture is trying to say. The texture is trying to say, hey, let's just be bad, really bad one year. Get a top three pick and try to get some of Holmes help other than like kind of sitting in this kind of middle ground.

57:2910 and seven, whatever. I can't rock with that. Just because one of the players would never buy into it. I mean, and, and you can't, you can't force your, you know, this is bought in. Who?
