2:04but fans are going to fan. Enter the chat, Chris Crider, who is a placed on waivers for the purposes of contract termination by the Anaheim Ducks. Marco and I speculated on what exactly the cap crunch ducks needed to do with Cutter Goatsier and his pending extension looming large that they needed to free up monies. And they freed up six and a half million dollars. So why not? Let's talk about Chris Crider and his desire, Marco, to come east. Does he want to come northeast? Does he want to come to the Montreal canadians? I have my thoughts on the potential of Chris Crider as a Montreal Canadian moving forward. I'm curious though what you're hearing and what your takeaway is on a logical landing spot for Chris Crider. Could be Montreal or do you have another market in mind? I think there would be, well, first and foremost, just from a fit perspective, never mind contract, right? Yeah. Let's talk about this, right?

3:04I think every team could use a Chris Crider in their top nine. Outside of maybe Florida, because he'd probably be relegated to the third line or a fourth line, but considering that Marsha is ready to start the season could be the third line. I think where I take it, Sean, is we have to understand that, you know, I believe he's going to go through waivers, right? Like you're obviously folks watching us right now are going to have the benefit of potentially watching this after the 2 p.m. Timeline of waivers kicks in. I don't think he's going to get picked up from what I've been told because why pick up the 6.5 million dollar cap it when you can just let that contract get terminated and then sign him to another one. And I think what's interesting here is depends on the angle that you want to take it if you're Chris Crider, because Chris Crider is 35 years old, which means he can sign a 35 plus contract, which allows a team to sign him with bonuses, right? So he could sign for league minimum and then have performance bonuses in that contract that allow him to earn more throughout the season.

4:07So if you're a cap strap team, wink wink, Florida Panthers, then you can sign him for league minimum and then he could just earn his bonuses throughout the year and that'll just impact your cap next year as opposed to limiting you this year. So there is a play or it would make sense for Florida, but if the idea is to be on the east side. I don't know, but also if you're Chris Crider, you want to win a cup. You think you came close, right? He came close in 2014. I'm sure no one watching this video is crying. You know, it's just you want to go to a place that you think you could potentially win. I think the team that could use him the most in the Eastern Conference is the Ottawa Senators. The team that has been looking to get tougher teeth Steve Stales loves that toughness. They've been looking for it on the back end. They want to add some on the front end since they lost. Party Kachak stylistically, it's the team that makes the most sense to me.

5:09But the team that makes the most logical sense to me is the Boston Brewers. I think Massachusetts boy. Yeah. I think he's the eagle. You know, this guy was a pilot couldn't make sense. And you know, we talked about Pavel Zachi yesterday. Is that like, does that push somebody out the door? Is it, is it middle stat? Maybe not Zach is a middle stat that gets moved. You know, there wouldn't even necessarily need to move him if he signs in a 35 plus contract at low salary. So it offers that flexibility because you're getting a borderline. I think he's still a top six guy. He had 50 points last year. Right. He's physical. He has that leadership. I think that's a player that would make a lot of sense for the Bruins just in the short term because that's all the Bruins are right now is really an I don't mean this negatively, but they're very much in the short term. They're not thinking long term in their decisions. They want to be competitive year and year out with the court they have. So, Criter makes sense because he fits within that bracket.

6:10And I think he'd be good for a guy like James Hagen's, for example, in terms of helping him come up. Same thing with Fraser Minton. Imagine Fraser Minton getting him on his wing is opposed to Mark Castellick or Tanner's a known opponent. No offense intended. So that would make sense. But I think a lot of the people that are watching this episode, Sean. Are going to ask the question. Does Montreal make sense? I'll tell you one thing, you know, Montreal as much as I like Chris Criter. I don't think it's healthy that 12 years or move from Chris Criter colliding into carry price in the NHL's Eastern conference final and the Rangers and the Canadians to met up. My advice. Let it go. But I understand that there's a portion of the that's beautiful. Listen, look at the choreography. The. That was yesterday. Could the Habs use a Chris Criter without question. I'll be blunt. What I rather see the Montreal Canadians go into this season with Chris Criter ahead of Alexander taxi A.

7:14What I rather see the Canadians get Chris Criter into their lineup ahead of a guy like Kirby Doc. There's no debate in my mind that there's an upgrade on two individuals. But the bottom line is Kirby Doc's got a contract Alex taxi was signed to an extension last season. So to me, the Montreal Canadians make zero sense because there's quite frankly there's no room for him. Josh Anderson's on one end Zachary Bulldoch. I'm by presume is a Montreal Canadian and going to be in the top nine top 12 of Martins St. Louis lineup. We spent some time on a previous episode debating who the 13th forward is going to be. That's not Chris Criter's role on this team. So quite frankly, as much as I like Chris Criter. The fact that he's got 22 goals. He was a good playoff performer for the ducks before they got bounced with the when they lose in the second round. I don't think there is a logical spot that I could see Chris Criter joining the Montreal Canadians. I you know your logic is sound. You know you bring the hometown boy the Boston Bruins where they are based on that episode we recorded yesterday about where the Bruins are.

8:17So I think Chris Criter would look mighty fine on a second line next to Ivan Demetov. I see that's where I maybe I slightly disagree like at this point of his career. Oh no, none is a long term fit for a season though even for a season for a full season. You're a buyer of Chris Criter on the wing. Yeah. And you know, if a guy like Michael Hage joins in April, that's a serious insurance policy on that wing because you know that he could still score. He's just been potting 52 36 39 last. 22 goals. Yeah, in less than 82 games right. Yeah, 22 goals and 68 games with the Rangers. The 2024 2025 Rangers.

9:21Last year with the ducks playing second line, you know with an ever evolving cast. Still 22 goals 50 points and 75 games, but importantly. He's always a player that gives you something in the playoffs and as the Canadians try to change stylistically, I'm not even saying it's Criter or bustier in no way shape or form, but that's the kind of player they're looking for. And I think that would add the combination of muscle and scoring potential. That's what they're looking for. Right. And I think that would even if it's a short term deal because it's no risk and you're not paying any asset to get it. And it would be the exact same play that the Canadians used to get Alex taxi a last year. I was saying Lewis. I don't see it as a negatively as a negative thing, but you also have to think about it long term. If they signed say say, they signed Chris Criter to a two year contract. And then Alexander Zorowski comes in in two years and takes that spot when he's ready because he didn't have to trade him to go and get a top six winner because you had Criter in that spot for the time being.

10:30And then he's going to tell you in that as well because it's good asset value. So I can understand it. I'm not saying it's going to happen. I'm not even advocating for it. But I'm saying it would make a ton of sense and it would move certain players lower down the death chart, probably where they belong. And and Criter's a guy that you could put up and down your lineup. So if there are injuries. Put it on the top line. This is a guy that had no problem playing with cutter go to last year. Why would you have any problem playing with Ivan Dumbledog? I don't think that's a problem. But if you know how to compliment talent, which he has his entire career. I I don't see the downside in getting him for free. I don't. I just think that you're going to have competition. So let's go let's do the exercise. Let's go through it. You know, the Canadians top line is the Canadians top line. And in your world. I'm going to sign with the Montreal Canadians after he clears waivers, right? And now he's on the line with Ivan Demidov. New hook or capinan is the is the center piece to that line. Then you move down to the next line.

11:33We're talking about field and O down the middle or Jake Evans down the middle interchangeable pieces at this point. You got Josh Anderson, you got Alex taxi. You got Zachary Bulldog and you got Kirby doc. So now have we pivoted in terms of this hypothetical conversation of Chris Criter lands on the Montreal Canadians. Alex taxi is the 13th forward. Kirby doc. I don't. Kirby doc will be the 13th forward. That that could evolve as the season moves on. But you're bringing a body in someone automatically gets bumped out because they have their 12 forwards right now on paper. Because Chris Criter is not going to be a trade. You're not there. There isn't a body out for Chris Criter in this conversation. Right. So now we. Well, the Canadians. The Canadians currently have 11 forwards signed. If and when they sign Buzzerk, there'll be a 12. Correct. Right. I understand that. That's a very good problem to have. It is, but who's the 13th like Bulldogs? I'm just working under the assumption Bulldogs contracts. It's inevitable. I'm already counting this part of the group of 12 forwards, right. But either a doc or a taxi, you seem to be the likely candidates that come out if Chris Criter were to sign with the Montreal Canadians. Right.

12:39I think where I think where you have to also understand is that you may start as the 13th forward, but there's always going to be injuries, right. And I feel like there's going to be some level of rotation. And this team is better off adding without subtracting right now. I find then doing some significant, you know, surgery on the lineup and moving out some guys now again. Does that mean that the Canadians can't make a move? Absolutely not. Of course they can make a move. Does that mean that the Canadians wouldn't then subsequently make another move where they would trade one of their excess forwards potentially. But I bring you back to 10 months ago, Sean, when the Canadians had Patrick Lina injured Alex new hook injured Kirby doc injured Jake Evans injured.

13:47At that point, they had made so many recalls from Laval, they had even Jared Davidson was a regular in the lineup with respect to Jared Davidson who had a great start to the season last year. That kind of depth, it's a good problem to have if you have to try and figure out who your 13th forward is. So I don't think that's an impediment either. It just forces them to be ready and grind and when the opportunity comes, it comes, look at taxi A last year. I agree. He started he was the cats me out and then, you know, towards the end of the season because of injury, he lost momentum, he was a 13th forward. But he was ready when the playoffs started and they reinserted him in the lineup and I thought he was a possession monster. So it's good to have that quality depth and as the Canadians become more and more on the lines of contendership, it's going to be essential. So I don't view that as an impediment. I view that as bringing in an element that they don't currently have the combination of power forward and goal scoring that is established. Chris Criter is a faster version because I don't think he'll ever be that quick of what the Canadians hope Zachary Budzer can become.

14:53There's no problem with having a couple of those in the lineup because along with your ice lovekovski, it's good to have those big left shot guys that could also throw a pretty good check when it comes time. So I don't see it as an impediment. But I do see it as an opportunity to improve the roster, at least in the short term, without giving up an asset. And it puts the Canadians in a strong asset management position because they could then deal from a position of strength if they want to improve the roster elsewhere because they have existing players. And that's a big thing on the trade market right now. They want current players. It allows them to be a little bit more flexible on being able to sacrifice a player from the roster. So to go back to one of the earlier points about, listen, you know, always a dangerous proposition, trying to get into the head of someone that that you want to make the take the leap and believe you know what they're thinking.

15:54But at his age and this point of his career trying to get his name etched onto the Stanley Cup. How many teams in the NHL's Eastern Conference, you know, with the fact that you know he wants to come east, how many teams are in a better position to compete and have an actual shot at winning the Stanley Cup. So the Florida Panthers, you know, with the Tampa Bay Lightning be interested are the Buffalo Sabers, a threat to get Chris Crider because I'm curious about like, you know, the hometown boy and the Boston connection, Boston in the head of any of these teams we're talking about in terms of contention to win the Stanley Cup. Exactly. Not in my opinion, right? So exactly. What about weighing that like, who is Montreal's biggest competition? If Ken Hughes and Jeff Gordon really men, Chris Crider is available. Let's try to get this guy here. Who do you, who are they fighting with? How many teams are in their way? I think the Islanders would be interested. They have some cap space. I think the Buffalo Sabers were looking for.

17:01I think the Fender and Crider is a saber. Oh God. New York, you know, and it wouldn't be too too far from home. I think families in Connecticut now to be completely honest. So I really wouldn't be that far. And Buffalo was looking for veteran help. Like they were in on Trollcheck. After, you know, they did the sign and trade for Alex Tuck. So I wouldn't be surprised if they looked it back because they do need to replace what Alex Tuck brought. And they did a lot of youth on that team. So they could use a little bit of veteran help. The Islanders, I mean, the Islanders are looking to be competitive, but also in a shadow retool right now. So I could see it happening for the right price. I mean, they inquired early on in the season to see about Patrick Linase availability. So, you know, you know, you know if that's the case that they're looking for a little bit more firepower. Definitely a top six forward. I don't think the Rangers are returned to the Rangers makes any sense, especially after signing Ellie Tolvenin.

18:03I don't think that's happening. The Devils doesn't make sense after Luke Evangelista. I don't think it's happening with Washington. I think they're pretty set on the wings. Carolina. I never count on Carolina because Eric Tulski never sleeps. That's a good one. Yeah. I never sleeps. And honestly, if Carolina pulls off the trade for a hellabuck, because they are one of the more interested teams, it's going to cost them a winger. I think it's going to cost them a forward. And again, great asset management if you could trade a winger and then boom, insert a guy like Chris Criter. So it's all a little interesting there. Columbus is an option here. And I don't think that Philadelphia makes much sense. Their strength is up the wing. So if Criter was a center all day every day, but as a winger, no. And then bring it back to, you know, the Canadians division in the Atlantic. Montreal Boston Sabers senators. Those guys make sense.

19:04I would be mildly surprised, but not struck if Tampa Bay kick pyres. Because obviously if you can get them on a 35 plus contract, that's a value and Tampa Bay all about that value. I think after that, you know, Detroit doesn't make any sense for me. They don't have a general manager at this time. Yeah. I tip my hat off to a Sean Horcoff that's handling the interim right now. So again, you have maybe 16 that I could see this happen. But I think that's what I think it's going to be. Which is not narrowing it down at all. I would, I would. My gut would say Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. Boston. But this is what happens when you work for a Massachusetts based company. You know, I think that's what I think is the most important thing to do is to make sure that you can see how attractive that is to Criter is an entirely different thing and that's between him and Matt Keeter his agent.

20:13Do you think at all the fact that the connection of Marta Saint Louis Jeff Gordon plays a role whatsoever as miniscule as it might be. Yeah, I don't disagree with those helps trying to gauge the level of impact when it comes to the ultimate decision making, you know, connection with the Canadians being competitive and everything else that, you know, he knows these guys. Yeah, it's a good position to be in and again, the Canadians did this with text. Yeah, last year. So it's not like they're they haven't been up this road before. I think the Canadians are an attractive spot. It's just does he want to play in Canada. Yeah, right. Yeah, I think that's what I think is the most important thing to do is to get the best of the world. And that's obviously a question you have to ask not everybody's cold coffee or ladies and gentlemen. Wow, wow. You know, so you look at for me personally, you look at that you look at winning, you know, between Montreal and Buffalo, those are the two teams that are on the up and up. Well, that will make a ton of sense.

21:13Getting the opportunity to play with some really good young stars like if, again, Buffalo, getting to play with Benson, do you imagine Benson and Criter on the same line. Good to have you. Hi, Joe. Hi, Joe. Yeah, I was. You know, disaster coming. But again, you know, so there are options. And I think Boston, obviously just being closer to the greater family and not too far from a drive up to Connecticut. I think it's fantastic. So those are the legitimate options but if you were focused on winning, I wouldn't, I wouldn't count out Carolina, and I wouldn't count out either the the Florida teams. that unfortunately I think we agree that if Chris Crider has eyes on Montreal and says I could play for this team I could play in Canada I can go play at the Bell Center 42 times a year I could be up in that market no problem I take them and I think you're of the in the same position that if you wanted to come here to Montreal and sign a two-year deal of the over 35 stipulation in the CBA that you would take Chris Crider in a heartbeat

22:20I know that there is a lot of resentment amongst the fans because of what happened to Kerry Price Yes, I do I a hundred percent get it and I think someone made a really good comparable like would make he rest in peace but would the Detroit Red Wings have ever attempted to acquire Claude Lemieux That's right that that's a little drastic that that that that that war between the avalanche and the Red Wings I mean that was a bloodbath you know you could say what you want about his collision but I can't tell you like I'll say this I don't believe Zadena Chara when he said he didn't know Max Paturelli was on the ice when he rammed his head into the stanchion and almost killed him I can't tell you for certain that Chris Crider deliberately ran Kerry Price I can't Were you one of the ones that called the cops beyond absolutely I did I'm always quick with the 911 um Oh my god ladies and gentlemen Sean Stark confirmed Karen that's right but I can't tell you for certain that Chris

23:20I think he did I think he did his best to Avoid not avoid him but I can't tell you that he deliberately ran him 12 years ago Look I frankly I'm about winning now I don't want to happen 12 years ago like if you can help the much real Canadians get over the line I'm good I'm good and cheap yes yes just think about it right it's not he's not going to get 6.5 on the open market right now it's 35 plus yeah so my understanding is it would probably be below four million dollars which is the money he's walking away from right now from his current contract because he was already paid one million dollars in signing bonus and he had four million dollars in actual salary that he's leaving on the table with the contract termination so I think that's a worthwhile venture and it doesn't necessarily happen for the Canadians and it doesn't it doesn't remove them the opportunity to have Buzzerk and Jack I signed and have roster flexibility so again I wouldn't be against it

24:22and I'm not even saying that it's not going to happen I'm just saying that I think that in his situation there may be a team or two that probably squeak ahead of the Canadians in terms of the fit and you know Boston being one of them but if winning is important and being close to home is important Buffalo is interesting especially if you know I I find it hilarious how the acquisition of whichever team gets hella book may also then turn around and try to get Criter for example right because if you're if you're Buffalo and you're trying to trade for Hella book it's probably going to cost you a Jack Quinn in that package or you could replace Quinn with an incoming Criter the same applies to a team like Carolina for example that could be interesting so there are so many options here because when a freebie like this rolls along who isn't necessarily an overly archived

25:22problem in the room you have to look into it and that's exactly what the Canadians are going to do I can I'm almost sure they're going to look into it just because Jeff Gordon drafted him Jeff Gordon gave him the contract that he's currently terminating I just feel like you wouldn't be doing your job if you wouldn't check it now whether he chooses Montreal or not based on my interpretation of the nation is not something that they've chosen the only thing I could tell you ladies and gentlemen is you do not do what Chris Criter is doing unless you have a very good idea of where you're going and I will tell you this this is something I've heard from agents in the past that have gone through this route it happened with Texier Texier knew he had two teams that were interested in him at least one of very interested in him in Montreal we saw it I believe last year yeah a trade just before trade deadline with Piaires had a usual Zeph going to from Vancouver to LA like you have a good idea of where you're going
