Chris Paul's $1.2M Bonus: NFL's Performance Pay Program

The NFL announced this week that it dished out more than $542 million in performance

space pay for the 2025 season.

One of the biggest winners was Washington Commanders, left guard Chris Paul, who pocketed just

over $1,200,000, the 5th highest amount league wide.

Paul earned it after stepping up big time.

A 7th round pick in 2022, he had limited starts early on, but midway through the season,

the Commanders plugged him into the lineup at left guard, and he started the final 15

games, shining despite the team's rough year.

That bonus more than doubled his base salary of $1,100,000 from his rookie deal.

Folks figured his strong play meant he'd cash in elsewhere, since interior lineman draw

big offers in free agency and Washington already committed, heavily to tackles like

Laramie Tuncil and Sam Cosme.

Surprisingly, Paul tested the market, but decided to resign with the Commanders for 2026.

It shows his value to the team went beyond the paycheck.

The performance pay program rewards low-pay players who log heavy snaps.

It divides a player's total plays by their salary, then ranks them against teammates

with a pool split across all 32 teams.
