He's heading back to camp in Port Saint-Lucy after just one game with team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Holmes will star for the Mets on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals right after Cody Sanga pitches. Holmes impressed in his only classic outing on March 8th. He struck out six batters and allowed just one hit over three scoreless innings against Great Britain. The Mets won him to build up his pitch count now that he's returning. Team USA faces Canada in the quarterfinals on Friday night. It was tough for them to release Holmes and a few others like Tariq Skubal, Michael Waka and Ryan Yarbro, especially in elimination games. They've added Will Vest, Tyler Rogers and Tim Hill, with Joe Ryan as a possible next edition. Listening to the infield, Francisco Lindor is making progress from his hand surgery.

He took batting practice two days ago and feels close to game action. For now, he's sticking to defense and minor league games. Lindor played his first backfield game on Tuesday and said his left hand felt really good. He'll do four or five innings today and it's day by day from here. D&N is sponsored by our partner.
