Cole Payton Visits Steelers for Pre-Draft Workout

North Dakota State Quarterback Cole Payton is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers for a

pre-draft workout.

The dual threat passer announced it at his pro day this week.

At 6 feet 2 inches and 237 pounds, he impressed with a 4.56 second 40 yard dash at the NFL

Combine.

He's the second quarterback on the Steelers list following Miami's Carson Beck.

Meanwhile, the team hosted Pit Linebacker Kyle Lewis and Illinois defensive lineman James

Thompson on Thursday.

Payton wrapped up his fifth college season as the bison's first year starter.

He threw for 2,719 yards on 72 percent completion with 16 touchdowns and just 4 picks.

He also rushed for 777 yards and 13 scores.

Scouts see him as a left-handed option with solid size and touch on throws.

Though his mechanics and arm strength need work, his running ability stands out for

short yardage, plays and bursts.

Payton currently projects as a fifth round pick in mod drafts.
