The Washington Commanders have flipped the script in NFL free agency.
After early criticism that the team wasn’t aggressive enough, general manager Adam Peters and the Commanders front office responded in a major way — adding impact players across the roster while also retaining key contributors for the upcoming season.
On this episode of Commanders Squad, we break down the flurry of moves that have reshaped Washington’s roster and what they mean moving forward.
The Commanders made one of the biggest splashes of free agency by signing EDGE Odafe Oweh to a massive 4-year deal worth $100 million. Washington also added defensive playmakers including LB Leo Chenal, DT Tim Settle, CB Amik Robertson, S Nick Cross, and EDGE K’Lavon Chaisson as the defense gets a significant overhaul.
On offense, the team added weapons and depth with TE Chigoziem Okonkwo, while continuing to build around the young core.
Washington also prioritized continuity by retaining several key players. Laremy Tunsil received a major extension, while Marcus Mariota, Andrew Wylie, Nick Allegretti, Tress Way, Treylon Burks, Jake Moody, Drake Jackson, Shy Tuttle, and Deatrich Wise are all back as the roster begins to take shape for the upcoming season.
Is this the aggressive roster building Commanders fans were waiting for? And how much credit should Adam Peters get for reshaping this team so quickly?
We break it all down.

I don't think so, Jennifer.
Oh yeah, huh.
Discover's accepted where I like to shop.
Come on, baby.
Get with the times.
Right.
So we shouldn't get the parachute pants?
These are making a comeback.
I think.

Well, things happened pretty quickly with the commanders and Adam Peters, didn't they?
That, you could say that for the very least.
And we have lots of new faces and some old returning ones too.
He better put some respect on AP's name, man.
He has a process we learned to trust it.
Nick hit that intro.
Hail to the commanders.
It's the commander squad.
Everything Washington commanders every week.
Covering all the big hits and game-changing plays from the heart of the nation's capital.
The way only the Lockdown Podcast Network can.
Rally the burgundy in gold.
The commanders squad show starts now.
All right, so we got Anthony Armstrong, Melissa, Kim, Nick Ashu here.
David Harrison will join us when he can.
There is a parade of press conferences and zooms from all the players.
Suddenly the commanders have signed.
We went from where's Adam Peters?
What's he doing?
What's going on to?
Oh my God, I can't keep up with the list.
Including right as we get started with this show about a minute before the news breaks.
Rashad White, the running back from the box Arizona state.
A teammate of Jaden Daniels.
Signs a one year deal with the commanders.
So we know what the backfield's going to look like a little bit more.
Obviously Chris Rodriguez gone.
Went to the Jaguars.
You're going to have Bill.
You're going to have Rashad White.
Maybe somebody else on top of that.
Obviously there's still the rumors in the very likely situation that Brandon and I.
You could also be on his way to Washington too.
We will get to that.
But it's a long list.
It's a long list, guys, of everybody that they've signed since the last time we did the show.
And it's crazy because you know, this is what happens.
There's a lot of impatience.
When your team wins five games after winning 12 the year before and you go through the disaster.
This team went through.
There's going to be a lot of impatience from the fan base.
And it's why look, we all pretty much set it on this show.
I've set it on radio.
Like give it a minute.
Give it a break because not everybody needs to get all in right at the beginning.
Sometimes you get better prices and better contracts after literally 24 hours.
So we know Adafi all the way who has already signed in Leo Chanel.
Now it's part of the mix and Chica Conqu with the the tight end knit cross.
The safety gets a two year deal.
A Kaleveon chase on.
I always say his name wrong.
I'm trying my best.
He gets the one year deal.
Rashad White.
I just mentioned getting one year deal.
I mean, the list now goes on and on and on here, Melissa.
And this is what happens sometimes in free agency where, okay, you might have missed out on some of the big fish.
But you know, somebody like an Alec Pierce.
I'm kind of glad they're not going to spend $30 million a year on him at this point.
And they've been able to add so many other pieces that they have.
And I'm seeing in the chat already here.
AP making moves like we, it's changed very quickly around this team, Melissa, about 24 hours.
No, I think the thing that we are not always privy to is what's happening behind the scenes, right?
Until it comes out publicly in full force.
So I think that.
I know that Anthony mentioned the intro, like, you know, an AP we trust.
Sometimes you got to like trust the GMs and the owners of what they're doing behind the scenes.
Obviously, we have seen, I think in the last, what, three days, what can happen if things go well, if things don't go well.
I think from this point on, we just have to think that no news is good news, right?
In terms of Adam Peters and what he's working behind the scenes.
There are a multitude of players that spoke via Zoom today.
I'm really excited, obviously, I've been so high on Odafe O.A.
And I'm excited that he's now here in Washington.
He has not yet been introduced media wise though to everybody.
He actually, his brother actually is on the Kentucky basketball team.
So he's a national right now cheering him on in the SEC basketball tournament.
In times that I've spoken to my brother, because his brother, he played at Oklahoma and then transferred to Kentucky.
I was like, oh, your brother's like pretty good.
He's like, oh, yeah, he's like, we're banking on him and the family to be like the best athlete.
He's like, forget me.
I'm like, we're banking on him to make it to the league and the NBA and him to be the breadwinner for the family.
So that kind of tells you what the athletic ability is in that family.
Leo Chanel, to someone I'm a huge fan of, I actually covered him in college.
This is like when you start to feel old, you know what I mean?
Because like I covered him in college and in high school and like whatever.
But no, Leo Chanel Wisconsin native covered him a little bit in high school too.
Because his team actually made to the state championship game.
And he was a really great guy in college.
You one of those guys that, which I think is pretty exemplary of a lot of the guys that come out of that Badgers football program.
Just kind of keeps himself keeps quiet, puts his head down and does the work.
But when you see them do the work, you see the guys from that program.
They really do let the plan of the field speak for themselves.
You think about him.
TJ Watt, obviously, Andrew Van Goggle, some of these really big name defensive guys who quietly don't really come out as flashy.
You know what I mean?
When they come out of college and they're like, oh, first round graphic, whatever.
But guys that are going to make an impact at the end of the day when they get on the field.
So it's been really neat to see that obviously from my personal perspective.
But also, you know, you talk with some of the reunions that you have for these guys, obviously with Frisha and White.
And then also the Maryland guys, take a calco and a cross.
So, you know, I think Adam Peters has slowly cleaned the piece of the puzzle together.
I think we love to see that Anthony.
Yes, Melissa, he is he's cooking.
And it's one of those ones where, you know, you go to the store and they're like, you need to make sure you get this very specific radish.
Don't get just a random one.
Get this specific one.
And then you come back with the wrong one.
And you know, we're like, where is he doing?
He's like, this plenty here is like, no, no, no, I'm looking for this very specific one because he's going to make this dish hit the exact right way.
The beautiful thing about how they're shopping is that they know what type of player that they're looking for.
They're in unison with the coaching staff, the coaching staff is saying this is the type of player that we're looking for.
The sculpture looking for that type of player and everybody is hitting these different metrics.
The one thing that's common between everybody is that all of them are athletic.
They are athletes athletes and even Trent Scott, him resigning for the one year deal.
You remember him catching down past and then throwing up the hooks with a cues.
He is athletic as well.
They are implementing what they said they need to do get faster, get younger, get longer on defense.
And the fact that they put most of their efforts into improving the defense, which gave us the most headaches.
You think it might have gave me an ulcer last year.
I'm happy that you had that.
Okay, the first part of it.
Yeah, I was a little upset that there weren't any major fireworks.
There weren't any big splashes, but some of those big splashes really didn't need to happen.
But sometimes the biggest name on the billboard isn't really the best movie at the theater.
It's just got the most marketing behind it.
So they're shopping with very specific people in mind.
It checks all the boxes.
I think that you're getting a mix of experience with leadership.
Leo Chanel, you mentioned he's been on Super Bowl.
He's been across from Patrick Mahomes.
He has a lot of experience that he's going to be able to share with everybody else.
And then you look at on the offensive side, Rashad White.
He's been lined up behind Tom Brady.
Like he knows what it means to work.
He's going to bring some skill set to the table as well.
All these picks, you know, they're they're in the lesser name players.
They're not you huge.
Who is that?
Who is this guy?
But then you see all the stats.
You see all the play.
You see what they've done.
I remember I was listening to Dave David before he gets on here.
He was talking about Nick Crosse.
Dude has 120 tackles.
He has a couple of sacks.
A couple of intersects.
Guys that can tackle on defense.
What an amazing company.
Hello.
He's getting tacklers.
Leo should all tacklers.
Like he's getting down to fundamental.
This fine athletic people that can do that.
Nick and I'm happy with the way things are turning out so far.
You know out of all of that the fact that you used radishes as the example out of all
of the things that you could pick at a grocery store.
I feel like there's a very specific recipe you've made with radishes recently to reference that.
But right like I'm like this.
It was it was great.
It made me think of radishes.
I'm like I haven't thought of a radish in a long time.
David Harrison is free now from all of the the parade of zoom.
So he's going to jump on with us.
It's a long list including David Rashad White right before the show.
Signing a one year deal with the commanders to 20 because last time we were all.
You know doing this show.
Well three of us anyway.
Melissa you were busy doing other things.
Come on.
You know a lot of the conversation was.
Where's Adam Peters.
Where's the movement?
Where is the team?
Why aren't they signing everybody under the sun?
Well the list got longer and it's not.
A lot of overpriced big contracts necessarily.
David the big takeaway that I've got from a lot of this is it's.
Younger guys.
Guys that come from like a Leo Chanel specifically.
Oh you know winning culture winning two super bowls and he's only 25 years old.
They got younger.
They got faster.
They got more athletic.
Nick Crosprings right before you popped on.
We said tackling actual tackling to this defense, which is a rare rare concept.
The mood feels very different and you can look in the chat and see it too.
The mood feels very different from the fan base, from the media, from everybody.
With now what you've seen from Adam Peters in this front office, David.
Yeah.
The mood feels different.
I apologize for being on my AirPods.
I got to jump into zooms when they become available.
So not not as professional as I usually am, but I wanted to be a part of this as much as possible.
I don't have any idea what you guys talking about with the.
What was it?
The radishes.
No clue.
The radishes.
But I will say forks up.
Welcome, Rashad White.
Welcome.
Welcome back.
I should say Rashad's not going to remember me because unfortunately I wasn't around the buck.
Nearly as much as I am around the commanders, but I do have a photo.
I'm going to share with him when I, when I can see him in person of him with his daughter on his shoulders doing a standup with me in Tampa, Florida.
That I think he'll remember not me, but having that moment with his daughter.
So anyway, really cool.
Really fun to see the Washington Mayor's fan base excited.
Was a real big bummer to see them so down and dejected.
And some of them down right negative in the first day and a half, two days.
Or so, but listen, that's, you know, that's, that's fandom, right?
And Anthony, you've lived it.
I mean, you know, you know what it is, man.
Like when you, when you drop a first down, you're going to hear some booze.
And, and you might have to wear somebody's not shows when you catch a touchdown.
You're going to hear some cheers and somebody might name their baby after you.
Like that is, that is fandom.
You know what I mean?
That is fandom.
That's part of the roller coaster.
That is professional sports.
I think every athlete understands it.
I don't know about appreciates it embraces it.
I know not every me.
I remember appreciates it embraces it.
Nick, you've been called stupid.
Melissa, you've been called stupid.
I've been called stupid.
We've also all been called geniuses.
And that's just a Tuesday afternoon with Anthony in the group text.
So I mean, you know, it's part of the business.
But at the end of the day, when they're all celebrating, we're happy to celebrate with them.
You know, go ahead, Nick.
Oh, first off, I just think stupid.
I'm like, I've been called way worse.
It was nice that you don't get that stupid.
Yeah, that's been, that's putting it kind of.
He's, listen, I've written one story about James Winston and been called both a racist and a homer.
And I'm just like, nailed it.
Right.
Like as far as I'm concerned, if I got people calling me a homer and people call me a racism,
I'm like, I nailed that sucker right in the middle.
That's exactly what we're saying.
And I have both sides getting mad at you.
That's what you know.
You're doing your job well.
Yeah.
And it's listen, this is a, this is a polarizing time of year.
And you know, when you win five games versus the 12 before David, like we were saying before.
And I only got a few minutes.
So all right.
So David jumped off.
Yeah.
I just got the text.
Yeah.
I think it's popping on right now.
So I'll be probably back.
I went to go talk to a, to a sign.
He said beforehand.
He said beforehand that that was what was going to happen.
This is, this is one of those days.
When you're on the beat of a team, you are at the, you were beholden to their schedule.
By the way, real quick, to replace Rashad White in Tampa.
Kenneth Gainwell has signed with the bucks.
So steal going from the Steelers to the bucks for Kenneth Gainwell.
Yeah.
There's a lot of moving parts here.
And there's a lot.
But like what I, what I, what I do take away from this at this point that just feels so promising is something I was hoping this team was going to do was.
Yes, you're going to go after some big fish.
You're going to go after some big contracts.
The guys that are having that big payday.
It didn't work out with Alec Pierce.
He stayed home.
He stayed where he was comfortable.
Stayed with the offense.
He was used to all of that.
Same Romeo dobs.
Romeo dobs.
It was a different role.
He knew in New England.
He was going to be the number one receiver.
Terry McClure.
And if you're, if your offensive coordinator basically says guys going to get 10 targets a game.
Those targets go away from you if you're Romeo dobs.
So I, I don't blame him for making that choice.
But what I do know is the commanders at least reportedly did make efforts for those guys.
Fine.
And it didn't work.
But they did also then look for players that are on the cusp of right.
You're buying low in a sense, right?
That's what's really important.
Now, don't play all way.
Okay.
That, that was not a by low situation.
Fine.
But you still see somebody that it seven sacks once he got traded to the chargers.
And what he was able to do in those moments where he kind of felt like you're seeing what the Ravens thought they saw in Melissa.
You go and you still look at a player and say that's 68 million dollars guaranteed.
It might actually be a steal if he lives up to the expectations that the Ravens had.
And then even the chargers have when they traded for him versus what you got for a decent amount of that time in Baltimore.
So a lot of these players they did sign are actually players that you still look at with with upside a lot of potential.
They're still young.
There's a chance for them to grow a conquest another one where you look at it and say.
There is a chance that he could be an even better tight end than what we've seen so far.
The body is there.
The, the physicality is there.
There's a lot.
Like in some ways, a conquest got like he's like a big body wide receiver.
There's some debo Samuel almost in him a little bit with how physically he is.
And you watch somebody that can really do things that this offense desperately needed.
They're addressing the needs that they had.
And it's guys that are younger.
And again, if we see it, Melissa, Adam Peters on the rest of the front office knows we got to get younger.
No, I think that's absolutely the case.
I think that a lot of people felt that way, especially after last year.
And you think about I'm going to go back to Odafe away again because he's someone that I know like obviously past rush was a need.
And again, he's still young.
He's 27 years old.
I think he's about six.
He's a big guy.
You go up right next to him and you're like, oh, you're sorry, but you go up next to him.
And you're like, oh, you are huge.
Like definitely a guy that has physically worked and he had a great rookie season.
I think for him from what I've seen in his career in Baltimore.
I mean, he's definitely, you have to have him at the right ski.
You know what I mean?
I think that that is how you've seen his numbers fluctuate, right?
And I think for him, he worked so well in Mike McDonald's defense.
I think that that was obviously very key.
I think Zach or his defensive struggled a little bit more that whole defense as a whole.
I think had some issues then.
I mean, 17 and half sacks in the past two seasons combined.
I think that as long as they can kind of use him to the best of his ability.
I think that we'll see a lot more sacks and a lot more production from Odapai.
Oh, he is very fast, too.
I will say that for sure, too.
And he is such a guy that is so technically sound.
I think that that for him, he's always prided himself on his technique.
So I think like in terms of youth and stuff like that, Odapai will obviously be in that mix.
Leo Chanel, too.
I think he's also like early mid, he's mid 20s.
I want to say to it wasn't that long ago.
He's 25 and already.
Yeah.
Yeah, experience beyond his years.
I remember one thing about Leo when at Wisconsin, he was always so fast.
And he was, he worked under defensive coordinator at the time, Jim Leonard.
Obviously a name that people know throughout the league and from college shoe.
But his ability to be fast and to blitz.
I think that that was one of his strengths.
Again, why is beyond his years?
Obviously, I think that linebacker was an area that I think the commenters would have liked to get a little bit more speedy and younger as no notice respect.
Right.
Bobby Wagner and all that.
But I think that he'll definitely add to the speed and the structure of that of that line at the middle of the field, too.
So I am such a fan of where this team is going right now.
And again, you see people commenting.
I was just really excited for shot white.
I know right now because it just happened.
But I think that they definitely did what they needed to do in the positions that they needed to upgrade.
We'll call it.
So far.
Yeah, they came into this and we going back to the groceries.
Adam Peters was sent to the grocery.
So you can pick Harris teeter, Wegman.
Y'all up there at the DMV.
How hungry are you right now?
Man, I'm so damn hungry dude.
Oh my gosh.
I had a sandwich earlier and it's already gone.
I'm tired.
I've been up since like three out of train.
Like 10 people at five.
I was saying that you child was popping really early this morning.
I was like, hello.
Is everybody awake right now?
Yeah, I was up early.
I was up early.
Sorry to wake y'all up that fast.
The thing is they went to the store and they had a whole laundry list of things to pick up.
They had to get an edge, tidy and safety linebacker running back.
They found their way to have to get themselves a center.
Then they had to find probably a gardener receiver.
They checked all five of those boxes at least.
Right.
You could feel like, okay, now you don't have to go into this draft with this same laundry list of people.
So I think it helps them be able to go into the draft without having to force a hand.
Right.
If it's something amazing is sitting there at seven, then you take it.
I'll let the chat go crazy about who they think it should be.
Because it's going to be some options there.
I think they, I think one, the phone's going to be ringing a lot at seven.
Then I think you're going to also have some hellified decisions to make.
And if you want to pick a player, if you want to trade back.
But they, they did a great job of just addressing a lot of needs by getting the positions of necessity for sure.
The second part about is that these guys are all young enough to where they can earn another contract.
Right.
So the link is something that makes a lot of sense for the player and for the team.
So if I'm like 27 year old dude, if I'm, you know, oh, wait, he's for four years.
But if you catch me somebody that's like on a two, three year deal like Chanel, he's going to be 28.
Right.
And now he continues on the trajectory that he's going.
Adam people gladly cut him a check.
Right.
This is why the signings make more sense because he would rather the player earn the money.
He has good money.
It's a pay grade.
And it's a, it's a raise in your, let's say your ability to affect the game.
You're on the field more.
We're going to get the ball to you.
We're going to make sure you make plays.
And so it's a win-win for both people, right?
If the player doesn't live up to that to earn new contract, then it's like, hey, we didn't, we didn't overpay.
Right.
We're not sitting here with a receiver.
We pay 30 million and he ain't getting over 400.
You're like, so I think if they all make sense or they're not, they weren't the sexy ones that jumped out off the top of the list.
But everybody makes this because they're going to be here for their contract.
And then the good chance to be here for another contract if they're right and high and playing really well.
You know, you mentioned the chat and I'm looking.
It should surprise nobody.
The Jeremiah love continues to be mentioned a lot for this team.
And look, if you have Rashad White, you have Bill.
I think this team believes in Jacori Kroski married a little too much to draft a running back at seven at this point.
And to be honest with you, I think there's a good chance Jeremiah love has gone by maybe four with the Titans.
There's a chance the Titans draft him at four.
I mean, maybe Cleveland at six.
I don't know if he's on the board.
But it is interesting to think about now because when you get to the point when you get to the NFL draft, right?
This is something we've looked at where yeah, you can do all these mocks you want.
But mock drafts in February before you even have free agency.
You don't know what a roster is going to look like and the commander's roster is much younger.
It's faster.
It's better clearly than where they were before with what they've done in free agency just over the last day at this point.
So they may have at least a little bit more of an idea in terms of luxury picks that they could make with that first round pick where maybe it is.
Hey, we don't necessarily have to go defense because we've addressed enough and they found some other young guys that they feel would be just as good as a sunny styles.
If he were to fall for them now if David Bailey's there at seven.
That's tough for me to say trade down.
I mean, he runs a four five one 40, the athleticism, the ability to get after the quarterback.
You know, you could use still more help on the edge.
I don't think you trade down if David Bailey still available and what this team is going to do is obviously field phone calls.
Have these conversations.
It really get involved in line season.
That's a good thing to do and make people think you might want Jeremiah love or you might want Caleb Downs.
If he's still like there's a bunch of names.
Carnal Tade at 11.
Well, they're carnal Tade at seven.
Sorry, like that's.
He betrayed other name that gets thrown around.
Yeah, but that's.
If you live down like what if the dolphins were to trade up and then you trade down to get carnal Tade at 11.
Well, I mean, that's that's a possibility.
But then the question becomes what does your ride receiver room look like?
And I think this is the one thing to keep in mind here because there is a stronger and stronger rumor that was shot white.
Is just the first Arizona state teammate from J Daniels to come to Washington.
It's getting louder and louder for Brandon.
I you does that end up happening.
We got a wide receiver to ask, which is just the best.
And I know where he sits because we've been on the same thing for a while.
Unless.
Unless he's changed his mind.
It's commander squad.
And college basketball is nonstop big games tight spreads momentum swings every single night from early tipoffs to late night West Coast shootouts.
There's always action on the board.
And now Fandals giving you a way to turn that energy and even bigger potential wins with a college basketball parlay profit boost.
You can build any college hoops parlay.
You want rivalry games, ranked matchups, whatever really kind of fits.
You just figure it out, right?
Like you can mix spreads and totals and player props.
You can match them all up and see what it like.
Just just get creative sometimes.
You can apply that profit boost then and instantly bump up the potential payout.
You go safe.
Go bold.
Ride with the team.
Maybe text some of your friends and show them what you're doing.
See if they want to tell you at all.
It's your parlay.
Your style now with more upside behind it.
So just head to fandall.com to get started.
That's fandall.com.
Fandall.
Play your game.
All right.
Melissa Kim.
Anthony Armstrong.
Nick Ashu.
Anthony.
You and I have talked about this a bunch.
So I think I still know where you stand.
I don't know what it may change.
Look, the brand and I you groomers are getting louder and louder.
One year approved deal.
Kind of the realm in the area where we thought that this could go.
I feel like it's inevitable at this point.
I feel like Jane Daniels is sitting back going.
I'd love her shot white here.
Brand and I you make sense, which would obviously change what they do in the draft.
They're not going to take a receiver in the first round if they sign brand and I you.
Even on a one year approved deal.
I just don't think that's the route they're going to go with David Bailey's on the board.
They take David Bailey.
They would take an edge rush or maybe a sunny styles if you have brand and I you.
So the question that becomes if you're the team and this is your strategy.
There's a lot to factor in here.
Do you get some of the inside of what went on in San Francisco?
What's his side of the story?
Are you in a spot here where you're looking around going?
We could use help at wide receiver and we're just going to overlook that.
And it's a one like there is so much Anthony that you could bring to the table here.
Is David Harrison jumps back on with us.
But I'll go to you Anthony first.
Like it feels inevitable.
The brand and I use going to be in Washington.
It sounds like the rumors are getting louder and louder and louder.
Have you changed your mind at all about this because it's.
It's a it's a delicate situation.
I think given all of the factors that are there.
It is a hell of a delicate situation Nick because number one always every time I talk about.
I you I want to always say hope is mental is good.
And just because 30 million dollars is a lot of money to have found a way to void to not receive.
And like we said in the chat like I got to the league.
Crawling up the sewer.
You know what I mean?
So I wasn't about to bypass anything like I got free food downstairs.
I'm not messing up the smoothies if they say don't take a cup.
I'm not taking a cup.
I didn't want to mess that up.
So for him to give up 30 million dollars.
That lets me on my man.
Something else is going on.
Now you can say, hey, there's a whole lot going on inside the organization.
But nobody said anything.
Nobody's heard anything, right?
You hear one side where you haven't talked to him.
The other guy don't say nothing with post speed and videos.
So in that instance, I'm like, I'm cool too.
We can figure it out.
Plus he's already.
He's still in the contract.
Right.
You still he still has to get released.
This that process has to happen.
But all the other things with a line for him to come over here.
Am I jumping on board to say her even do it?
I'm.
I'm sitting back trusting AP.
You get what I'm saying.
It's kind of like saying, hey, I got this new radish, David.
And I'm making this dish.
But I ain't going to tell you what the whole recipe is.
Let me cook.
And you just got to sit back and enjoy it.
Because if you do bring in be a.
Initially, it's going to be like, dude, are you.
Are you good?
Right.
Because when you're a professional, I don't need to have to hold your hand.
The quarterback shouldn't have to keep you in check.
And we shouldn't everybody have to text him.
Hey, everybody good.
Like it shouldn't have to be like that.
And that's what I'm afraid you're going to get into.
Now it could be come over here and be a perfect citizen.
Yeah, absolutely.
Because frankly, if he does show up.
And he does show up over here.
And they say it's all good.
And they sign them.
It's all about playing ball and producing on the field.
You know what I mean?
Like I understand you're going to treat your real respect.
But you still here to play football.
All right.
Now now you have your behavior.
Be good.
Have your all field production be good.
And then we can keep moving forward.
But right now it's just a little bit too much for me.
I don't want all the drama.
I'm good on that.
Melissa.
Yeah.
You know, I think that sometimes a change of environment is good
for some of these guys.
You know what I mean?
And I'm not saying, you know, necessarily a brand B.
I come here all of a sudden.
It's like sunshine rainbows and ponies, you know.
But I think that sometimes you need a change of scenery,
a change of culture, perhaps.
Again, I can't speak for what's happening over on the West Coast
in terms of culture on teams.
But I can say that the commander's locker room has been one of the most
least drama field I've ever seen in my life.
And it's so chill.
And just like everybody's so nice.
And like the culture, I think, is exactly what DQ has made it.
You know, even even that's only been a couple of two seasons.
You know, I think that what he's made it has really.
I think you see you see a little bit of DQ exemplified in the locker room culture.
I think that's the best way to put it.
Because when you learn what kind of guy DQ is and what he is all about,
I think that you see a lot of players kind of adhering to that.
And therefore making the culture of the locker room.
I think David, I think you can agree with me in that sense when you've been in the locker room.
It's just like the most chill, normal environment.
You know, you walk by guys, they always say, hey, what's up?
Like, you know, some of them joke with you and stuff like that.
Like it's such a good culture.
I think not just from a media standpoint, but you can tell with each other too.
Like they're saying they're like chatting about like the game or like whatever and video game,
whatever rivalry game was.
Lee and college football this past week.
I think it's I think change of scenery might be good for someone like being a comment.
That's all.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, you know, one of the one of the weirdest dynamics I've ever seen in locker rooms is the quarterback relationship.
Like just so many times the quarterback is just kind of like in his own space.
And you know, it's it's amongst everybody else, but.
Aaron Rodgers.
Sorry.
Yeah.
It's just it's not really intertwined with the locker room.
He was always by himself.
So yeah, go ahead.
No, 100%.
It's it's it's just kind of always been a little bit of a weird dynamic.
And you know, maybe it's because he's younger.
Maybe it's, you know, I don't know what it is.
But like Jaden, it's nothing to, you know, turn the corner, you know,
Melissa knows I'm talking about, but they have an area that they call retirement village.
I don't listen.
I don't call it retirement village.
They call it retirement village.
So it happens to be there's some older players in that area of the locker room.
Andrew Wiley, Nick Allegrede, Trent Scott among them.
So they call it that.
I don't call it that Anthony.
But it's nothing to turn the corner there and see Jane Daniels talking with, you know, Von Miller talking with an old line then.
And then, you know, the next day you come in and he's talking with Mikey Sainter still the next day.
It's Bobby Wagner the next day.
It's Debo Samuel.
Like you just see him intermingled with everybody and on his way in an out of the locker room.
He's messing with the PR guys.
He's talking to the trainers.
He's, you know, maybe, you know, pulling a joke on a reporter or something like that.
And it's just it's been honestly such kind of a refreshing atmosphere.
And I think it really kind of feeds into it because because even though, you know, listen, I'm not saying like, you know,
Jane Daniels is the, I can't even think of the analogies like the piper.
The, what is it?
The story.
You know what I'm not like.
He, the piper and everybody just follows him through the town.
But the quarterback is the leader of the room, right?
And I feel like when the quarterback is relaxed when the quarterback is having fun and the quarterback is part of the group.
Not just the leader of the group.
That helps.
And I mean, truthfully, you know, again, like everything is a little bit different.
But I met around a lot of quarterbacks from James Winston to Tom Brady and everything in between.
It, I think it matters.
And I think it's having an impact on this team in a five win season and a 12 win season.
I think it's absolutely made a difference.
And I think that actually interestingly enough, just talking to Chig, a comp,
uh, the new titan for the Washington commanders on the zoom.
I asked him about the difference between playing with older veteran quarterbacks and younger quarterbacks.
Because he's played with the Ryan Tannahills and the cam wards of the world.
Like he's played with your will lettuce and and some other guys.
Like he's played with a wide array.
He says that with the veterans, it's more streamlined with the younger guys.
It's almost like they have more to prove and have a chip on their shoulders.
So it's a little bit of a different vibe.
Jayden doesn't have anything to prove to anybody.
Like you asked Jayden, which I should say.
I know a lot of people think he does, but like Jayden doesn't move.
Like he's got something to prove.
He doesn't move.
Like he's got a chip on his shoulder.
Like he moves almost like a veteran, but he's young and connected with everybody.
So it's just, it's a very interesting dynamic that you point out there, Melissa.
And I think it absolutely matters.
Also, by the way, Chigokon Quo just told us that Traylon Bergs is one of his best friends in the world.
One of the best dudes in the world and says that if this dude can be healthy, you're about to see a show because he's seen him healthy.
And when he's healthy, he can do his thing, but he hasn't been healthy long enough.
So for those commanders, fans who are excited for Traylon Bergs to be back.
Chigokon Quo who played the last four seasons with, well, three and a half seasons with Traylon.
It's also excited to see him back and looking forward to what's what's to come.
Well, we know the expectations that were on Traylon Bergs in Tennessee.
I mean, he was supposed to be the AJ Brown replacement, which is a lot of pressure to put on a kid.
But the reality is it never worked out.
We saw that catch was one of the greatest catches we've ever seen in NFL history.
It was the OBJ catch, but you know, if you look at the commander's offense right now for anybody's that's actually watching on YouTube.
If you're listening, sorry, but it's the commander's depth chart here right now.
Look, you need help at wide receiver still.
I mean, let's be honest with ourselves. We know that for as long as Terry McLaren has been a part of this team has been a part of this offense.
The conversation has been who is the number two?
Who is the other wide receiver on the other side for Terry McLaren to take away some of that attention?
Maybe it is Debo. Maybe they bring Debo Samuel back and he gets kind of put in the role that was more expected.
But with a Luke McCaffrey kind of jumping up and getting into that next level.
Maybe he takes at least a step. I don't think he's a number two. I don't think anybody thinks he's a number two.
But you know, you have some depth on this wide receiver depth chart now with a trailer in Birx.
Maybe getting some more opportunities and staying healthy. He's still young.
He's in his mid 20s. Obviously from a tight end perspective, Chica Conquo now is going to be your number one tight end.
And Ben Sinett has maybe lower expectations and opportunity to start to grow and get better.
Jalen Lane's going to be the guy he is probably more of a return guy here, but there's that gap.
There's that one thing and it's missing that number two wide receiver for this team right now.
And you know, it just it goes back to Melissa and I look and go.
It just feels like Brandon Ayuk in the end is is here's the thing.
From a talent perspective, we know what the ceiling can be for Brandon Ayuk.
It's just there's a million questions around him in terms of hasn't played football in 18 months.
And I just noticed Anthony is wearing his helmet right now.
I didn't notice it at first. I was looking at the depth chart.
Is this your way, Anthony, of saying that you would be more than happy to be added? Is this your air?
Are you announcing a comeback right now?
I'm just saying, man, I got about six games in me, man, give me in there.
They said, thanks, give it on, man. Just I'm ready. I'll bring my own equipment.
I got a jersey left over. I'm ready to roll, baby.
I have a tiny helmet. Does that go for it?
I put this on or is this not going to work?
I'm ready to go, man. I've been lifting. I've been lifting. I haven't run a 40 yet.
So I saved that for the in person work out there.
I'm just trying to throw my name in the hat.
Everybody else coming home.
Hell, let me get in the phone. Man, ain't somebody yet.
So my as well, make it interesting. You know what I mean?
I think Jason Campbell autographed this helmet that I have here too.
I think it might be a jam.
I got this when I was at NBC sports Washington, actually, they were giving away stuff.
And I said, I'll take the autograph, tell me. I think that's what it was.
But yeah, like, look, this is besides the fact that we've got random helmets.
This is how the show goes sometimes. This is good.
There has not been a single.
We have not had the chicken wing yet, though.
We have not had the tinfoil hat, though. It is next to me if we need to bring it out.
Where is your hat? You supposed to have a hat.
I know. I need something.
Something cute and like appropriate.
Okay. Well, we'll have something soon.
Maybe I'll have a tiara.
Conduckey Derby tie. You'd be ready.
You'd be ready to go.
Oh, that was fun.
You know what thing I noticed?
There was this like, if anybody knows, like everybody says AP knows BA, right?
AP also knows Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch.
And then ain't no JD.
So he knows everybody involved with this thing.
I feel like he's got the most insight on like, will this work or not?
That's why I'm like, I gotta just sit back and just gotta trust the Lord, man, to let him do it.
But he knows everybody.
So there's, there's something about it.
It's like, will they do, will they do them a favor and release them?
You know what I mean? Why would they do that?
You know what I'm saying?
If you're chicken competitively, why would I try to hurry up and give you your missing piece this early in the process?
Let me make you pick, have your draft pick selection.
You know what I mean?
There might be some gamesmanship behind this thing.
All I know is, I don't want to sit here and wait too long for something to happen.
And you don't make a move with somebody because it's going to throw off the chemistry.
If you do this thing mid-summer, right?
Somebody's been working their ass off all spring to get that certain number two job.
And then you go, hey, here we go.
We're going to get this guy who hadn't played in a year.
But he's a quarterback's best friend.
And you're like, hey, I've been grinding.
And then it shakes some things up.
So, I don't want you to hold out hope.
That's all.
If it happens, cool, but don't, don't make us wait.
And that could be up the San Francisco one.
So, AP hit hit him up, man.
Tell him to make what it is.
S or get off the pot.
Go ahead and cool, but get off the pot.
Man, that's the thing right now.
Because we're going back and forth saying that he should be here.
And all sides point to it.
He's still on the contract.
Katie, nothing about it.
So go find somebody now.
That's what I do.
It's like you're playing for a job, right?
You know, and then you're like, OK, like I know I'm a candidate.
You're told you're like in the finals finalist.
Like, you know what I mean?
The furthest job.
But then like, you know, the big boss is kind of like trying to figure out like, OK,
well, like, if they come here, like what's happening there?
Like, you know, I mean, it's kind of like I kind of think of it like that in a sense too.
And also like the strategy that's behind all what's happening right now throughout the league.
Like in terms of the trade situations with various organizations,
I think obviously the big one that everyone was talking about this week was Max Cosmin,
that whole situation of the Ravens.
I mean, yeah, I think we learned that there's so much more going on behind the scenes,
maybe with a lot of these discussions than we are obviously privy to.
And so I could totally see what Anthony just said.
There's some like strategy involved in terms of obviously everybody wants the best for themselves.
You know, and so it's like, do the commanders just go wide receiver?
Maybe you know what I mean?
When they get to the draft at that point.
So I don't know.
David is looking at me with much chagrin right now.
He's he's smiling.
He's smiling.
So so here's the thing.
And I've talked I've talked about this.
This isn't about you, Melissa.
But I've actually did a full a full episode about this for this very reason that the 49ers have no reason
to release Brandi Duke at the beginning of the league year.
They have no reason to release them before the beginning of the league year.
They have no reason to release them until they're good and ready to do so.
The San Francisco 49ers according to my counts have not used a single post June 1st release designation,
which means they still have two post June 1st release designations that they can make.
And the quick lesson on that for anybody doesn't know is they can release a player right now and declare him a post June 1st release
designation, which does some stuff in the accounting side that we don't need to dive into.
But it helps them with their books.
And the money stays on the books for until June 1st and as a June 1st, they can do what they need to do.
But the player becomes a free agent immediately.
They could do that right now.
They could have done it yesterday.
They could have done it on Monday.
They could have done it whenever they don't well, please.
Well, they couldn't do it actually until the beginning of the new year.
So I apologize in the light.
They couldn't done until Wednesday afternoon.
But they could be doing that already.
Here's here's what I think is happening guys.
I'm just going to put on put on your temple happening because I don't have one.
But I understand that this is this is a business of relationships.
So the NFL players NFL agents NFL GMs and coaches.
They're in the people business.
They think they're in the football business.
Sometimes they're actually in the people business.
John Lynch and Adam Peters are very good friends.
Guess what is going to happen as soon as the Washington commanders hire or hire sign Brandon.
I you every reporter with a microphone and access to a zoom conference and a credential is going to want to ask Adam Peters.
What is Brandon.
I you go.
Okay.
How's the mentors?
How's the physical?
When is he going to be on the field?
What's the role he's going to feel?
And guess what's going to prevent you from asking him that.
Brandon, you're not being on the commander's roster.
Because what did Adam Peters say at the Indianapolis government?
He said.
Brandon, you can's under contract.
I can't talk about him.
So guess what Adam Peters could do at the NFL league meetings.
And oh, I don't know two and a half weeks.
If Brandon, you can's not a part of his roster.
He can say I can't talk about Brandon.
I you because he's not under contract.
He's on.
You're going to contract with Sanchez before guys.
Go ask Johnny Lynch about Brandon.
You can guess what John Lynch is going to say.
The same thing he's already said.
He's done with the 49ers.
Move.
We'll make that decision when we make that decision.
Yeah.
GM speak GM speak GM speak.
You want to know what Brandon I you can get released by San Francisco 49ers.
Ladies and gentlemen.
The day we all leave Phoenix Arizona from the league meetings.
That is when Brandon I you because you're going to get released by San Francisco 49ers.
Then the Washington commanders are going to sign them in.
You know in the first time we're going to be able to ask him about Brandon I you.
Is after night one of the NFL drafts.
That is when we're going to get our first opportunity to ask Adam Peters.
About Brandon I you can what are we all going to ask Adam Peters night one of the NFL drafts.
About the first round draft pick they just draft.
We're going to ask him about Jared my love or car now.
And you know what maybe someone's going to get a Brandon I you question in there.
But what is everybody going to be focused on.
Everybody's going to be focused on the NFL drafts.
And the player that Adam Peters just drafted.
Listen, I don't know that that's happening.
That's on a source. That's on information.
That's not a report.
I'm just saying if I was Adam Peters and I didn't want to answer all these questions.
And John Lynch has no reason because the off season program starts April 20th.
The NFL draft is what April 27th or something like that.
Brandon I you is that if that's the case.
Brandon I you is going to be signed and under contract well before.
He needs a report to ask for and get ready for this NFL season.
So that's what I think is happening.
I think what's happening is at the end of March.
You're going to hear the San Francisco 49ers use a post June 1st release.
Designation on a receiver and everybody's going to go.
Why would you wait that long.
The reason is because John is going to keep his buddy Adam from having to answer all those hard questions and uncomfortable questions that nobody wants to answer.
Before the NFL draft and then on the night of a draft.
Like I said, it's.
Do you want to ask why you drafted.
I love it.
Do you want to ask is Brandon how you go?
Okay.
What do you want to ask reporter?
Because you only got to limit it in the meantime.
So that's what I think is about to happen.
I can dig that.
I don't think it's a crazy scenario at all.
I think it's great.
I'm glad I got to wear a tinfoil hat and Anthony got to put on his who's you're by the way yours is much more structured.
Yeah.
Around.
Correct.
Good.
Mine really fits on my head.
Yeah.
You put in some work.
I like it.
Yeah.
Oh, man, tape and everything.
Another thing strategically, David, what that what that delay will do.
It lets some of these other guys get off the board, you know what I mean.
It kind of dies down a little bit and there's nothing happening.
And you know, that could be the plate to that can be the play.
I mean, hey, like I said, AP no audience people.
And then he's on go get a Donnell mooney.
And one-year contract.
And we can be a role forward.
little bit. Yeah, and we can get a row forward. Yeah, that's a fact that
dress that you know, at some point, we might hear what else has gone on in
San Francisco. At some point, you might actually hear Brandon, I you excited
the story. But yeah, a lot of it is going to be try to not address it, avoid it
as much as possible and then move on. Whether it's, you know, whether that
actually is going to have people are going to ask the questions, you want to
try and avoid that as much as you possibly can. And then just be like, no,
we're about football to fresh start and training camp. And that becomes the
conversation. And listen, it's a good strategy because there are a lot of
questions about this. But I will say this, if I'm Brandon, I you, I want to
get my side of the story out at some point. I don't know what that strategy
looks like because I don't know what's gone on behind the scenes over there.
But I certainly would want to tell my side of the story. And if he sticks around
long enough, maybe he can stick around for the new stadium and, you know, drive
by the new stadium and get a video of that, which by the way, the renderings
that came out today, guys, I know we've already seen them. But it's like new
ones aren't they? Whoo, man, some of those views driving right to the RFK
site. And it's right down the center. And you're just looking at it going, oh,
it's so pretty. It really is. So it just again makes you look and go, okay,
this organization knows what they're doing. Can we now, I hope everybody can
agree? Obviously nobody on this show, but we can all agree that this is not
the dance night or air anymore. Can we stop with all that nonsense from people
in the chatter from people? I mean, for the love of God, this is not the same
thing. We can we can move on from that. Please, but the end those renderings
were those renderings were absolutely beautiful. There's still a lot of free
agents that are available though. The question is, who, if any, could the
commanders be interested in? So they don't have to reach it all and maybe pick
whoever they really want in the NFL draft. It's commander squad.
Alright, it's tax time. But for a lot of us, the whole way of doing taxes is
a lot. And you're trying to book an appointment that's not the most convenient.
You're sitting in a waiting room with a stack of papers, you're emailing back
and forth and wondering if they really get your situation. But this year,
you're getting a major upgrade into it. Turbo tax now has in person
locations nationwide. You can meet face to face with a real tax expert and your
documents get uploaded straight to your turbo tax app on the spot. It's just
like that. You're done. That's it. Just that's it. Your turbo tax expert works to
get you every dollar you deserve. And while you get real time notifications,
as you go about your day, let them do the work. It's just so much easier this
way. It's a relief of walking in and meeting a real person and walking out
knowing your taxes are being handled right. Head to TurboTax.com slash local
to find a store near you and book and appointments.
Alright, we still sit here for why David, you're going to have to jump off at
all anymore. I have no idea what your schedule is. You're going to have more
press case nodding. So there will be someone else. So when David just
disappears, just know he's going to be talking to another player and we'll find
out what the case is. I do want to bring up the depth chart here of the current
defense for the commanders, which obviously looks a lot better. Looks a lot
different as they've added some players, but we know there's still some gaps.
They probably could use maybe a little bit more at corner. Definitely know
they're going to want to have another edge that's going to be out there.
Whether that's going to be somebody in the draft or somebody, you know,
in free agency is a is a whole other, you know, question at this point. Now,
but if you look at some of the names that are still available at this point,
and again, I'm going to check my phone because there's a chance that somebody
literally got signed, like right at this point, but look, a lot of the main
players, a lot of some of the biggest names are off the board. Unless anybody
wants Kyler Murray in Washington, which I don't think is going to happen.
Like the best. Now available. Come on, nobody nobody wants Kyler Murray is
the backup. Is that a bad idea?
Okay. So tinfoil hat for that. No, like again, are they going to go after
Joey Bosa? That's an edge that's available right now, probably the best edge
that's out there. It's like, this is kind of where we sit now with this team,
where yes, the defense has gotten better, but there's still a lot of things
that they're going to need to address. And you get to a point where you might
be sitting there going, okay, the next big difference maker for us on the
defensive side of the football is somebody at the edge spot is somebody that's
maybe a linebacker that you can line up as an edge sometimes, sunny styles,
a David Bailey. Those are names we've talked about plenty. Who knows? I mean,
maybe they decide they want to go Caleb down. Again, these are, these are
still down the road. And we have plenty of time for all of these, these
mocks, but you know, David, I want to snag you before you at least have to go
here. I mean, at this point, from what you're hearing, from what you've seen,
does this feel like there's still a level of high activity with them? Or is
some of the main meat of the free agency maybe now done for Adam Peters in
the commanders, but maybe other obviously some smaller pieces down the
depth chart a little bit? I mean, honestly, I kind of feel like other than
maybe a wider receiver, I think they're done. Jeremy McNichols could still
maybe come back. Obviously, the Chris Paul situation has yet to be resolved
at least as far as I'm aware jumping in out of all these calls. I haven't
seen that he's been signed by anybody. You know, but Jeremy McNichols is
certainly a name to watch out there. But I know that he's he's got his
priority. They won't dive too deep into that. But yeah, why was I like a wider
receiver like Barnell Mooney? Calvin Austin, the third is interesting. He's got more
juiced than Devo, a little bit less physical than Devo, but like,
can David, does David Blowell first of all want to make that type of receiver
work? And what does Calvin Austin bring to the office, potentially, Jalen
Lane doesn't? I mean, I think Calvin's a little bit quicker, but is it
really negotiable? So I think, I think for the most part, we're done. The
thing that stands out the most to me is a lack of perimeter corner added, right?
Amique Robertson, slot corner, little dude, feisty, as I'll get out
aggressive, we're about to get to ready to talk to him here in just a little
bit. That's a good addition. But like, the Doronte Jones
cornerback, quote unquote, that we and this is, you know, it's not from Doronte,
it's from us out here, trying to foresee what he's going to do,
would be longer, right? Like six foot to six foot two with long arms,
range physical jam at the line of scrimmage, do all those types of things.
That's not on me, but it's also not Mikey Sanderson. So like, right now, if you
look at that depth chart, I've got Mikey slid outside because I'm like,
yeah, you know, like, you know, I don't know if that's what Doronte's going to do,
but it just makes the most sense with the current roster as it is. But we've
also not heard any rumblings of them being in on like Jalen Watts and Jamel D,
any of these other other corners that went elsewhere who would have fit that
profile. We haven't really heard that the commanders were in any of those
negotiations. So is that where Doronte Jones is going or do they have their
eyes on, you know, on main sort of lane, but main sort of lane at number seven,
like there's a risk there. Do they love main sort of lane and avion terrell,
who unfortunately wasn't able to work out at the Clemson Proto.
If they love both those guys, like, is one of them going to be their sub? Yeah,
one of them's going to be their number seven. So you can go into a secure
knowing that you're going to get one of those dudes. That's the question for me
and Doronte doesn't have quarterback. Right now Doronte Jones doesn't have a quarterback.
I know a lot of people will look at Leo Chanel. They're like, well, maybe he's the Bobby Wagner
replacement. Leo Chanel is at his best when he's moving. And this is coming from
Kensington's reporters is coming from Nick Allegredi, his own former teammate there in Kansas City.
Leo Chanel is best when you don't know where he's coming from when you're a quarterback.
And you got to find this dude. Is he on the outside? Is he on the inside?
Is he mugged up in the a gap? Where is he coming from? That is when Leo's his best.
And Anthony, you've been on a football field. Leo can't be the left-end outside linebacker,
like standing up in the night hole, trying to tell the quarterback on the other side of the
field what the call is and what the judge is going to be, right? So you just, I don't see Leo as the
mic. Is Jordan going to be the mic? Okay. That's interesting. Young linebacker has never done it
on a real game with a first year D coordinator. That's a little bit risky. Does body come back to
play the KJ right role? So I think that quarterback for the defense, i.e. Mike linebacker,
is still a question. That's sunny styles in the draft. So number two, wider seaver is still a question
that's possibly Brandon IU, possibly Darnell Mooney, possibly Karnel Tate, McKay Lemon.
And outside corner is still a question, at least on the outside. Man, I'd be a question inside.
It's a question to me. So is that man sort of delaying? There's not a lot of cornerback prospects
out there. The guy from Cincinnati Bengals, his name is Skatinge Nally, called Cliff Kingsbury's
offense, a college offense. Two years ago, he got burned. Cam Taylor Brit is also out there. He's
a six foot two physical press man corner, but he was benched by the Bengals. He's got some off
field stuff going on. Like, so it's just like, those are the three questions for me. Honestly,
above interior offensive line, even is number two receiver outside corner and quarterback of the
defense. And outside of the outside cornerback position, I'm confident they don't have an answer
for either of the other two. Yeah. On the secondary wise, I should say quarterback on the defense.
So I do you potentially see it being a, I don't know, like a safety could have safely
hitting the next one. Yeah, like they cross do that, right? Like guy that, you know,
communicated, you know, just kind of changing some things up. I don't know, all it is is wiring
it up. We put in the speaker and somebody's headphones, you know what I mean, to make sure they
can have that conversation. Look at that. Give David a question and he has a drop.
So about it. I don't even know who he's talking next because there's somebody else on
assume. So I mean, Robert, I mean, Robertson Robertson, not Robinson, I mean, Robert's in
this coming up. Roberts. Yeah. Yeah. There's, you know, he was talking about like what's the left
and what's the best still available? A lot of these names, at least you know, I'm looking on
some lists, like best available guys that are remaining. It's kind of like, you know,
they're gonna, they may be sitting for a little while. They're older veterans, right? They don't
have the need to jump on a team right now. Everybody in the league knows who Keenan Allen is.
Everybody in the league knows who Stefan Diggs is. He knows how to run it. They know how to run
routes. They know how to do their thing. They're at the point in their career that they,
they're going to kind of hang tight for a little bit. And these teams need to see their,
their, you know, second year players, their practice squad players, have they developed?
The draft picks have, they developed. So I hate going in with some question marks, but
I don't, I like, I kind of agree with David. I don't think there's really much else to do.
I'm still kind of holding out a little bit of hope for Joanne Jennings, but it just depends on how
I want to play the draft because I'm, I'm laying in the, in the whole camp of trade back a little
bit, right? Because I said before, it's a long way from seven to 71, especially if you need to get
a center. There's a couple of good centers out there. There's some speed and height at receiver
that will be available. And there's some really good corners. There's a pretty decent couple
outside corners that you can get in that second round as well. So if you, if you, if you trade back
a little bit, you could pick up that second round pick, still stay in the first and you can address
three of these needs rather than find your way all the way into a third round and then hoping that
third rounder can come in and start for you, Nick. And that, you know, that's kind of hit or miss.
You're right. If you get one that can ball, then you're like, hell yeah. And if they are,
you know, slow to developing and like, that gun, I wish I would have win another direction. And
then you kind of got to go back to square one. I got a name that's certainly a reclamation project.
But he is only 27.
Brave on digs. He's only played in 22 games over the last three years. He's very boomer bust.
But he is a playmaker defensively. There's, you know, in a by-low situation at a position where
maybe they could add at least, he's at least the depth guy. And it's a one-year proven contract.
It's kind of low risk. He wouldn't necessarily be my first choice by any stretch. But it's an
interesting thought to at least have where you have somebody there that's, it's, you know, in some
ways, having those players on your roster, like a brand and I you core, Trayvon digs, Melissa,
that have something to prove. You do get at least you know what the best will be from them mentally,
right? Like, this is an opportunity. Are you going to take advantage of it or are you not?
And they've done a lot of those proven deals over the first couple of years. There was obviously
less of that in free agency now. They went younger with guys. They feel like have tremendous upside.
That's the key. And that's really the types of decisions they should have been making.
But I wonder now if they're going to get to the point where some of the contracts now moving
forward are either, you know, depth guys that are giving smaller deals to you or somebody like that
where you know the upside can be really high with a Trayvon digs. But the low is it's either he's
given up a big play or he's going for a, you know, an interception gets beat or just gets hurt.
Yeah, I think for a lot of those guys that are kind of in that age range, right, where they
have experience and like, you know, I'm going to, I was, while you guys were talking, I was going
through the list of like the best available guys still on. It's a lot of names that are a little
bit more seasoned, if you will. But then there are still a handful of younger guys there. But you
would think that if they're still available, there's probably a reason why. And in the case of Trayvon
digs, I mean, you, you see what his product, I mean, he, I think he's one of those guys at this point
when you're 27, you're a corner like you are what you are. You know what I mean, there, there aren't
going to be a whole lot of surprises like at this point, you know, and I'm looking at his stats
right now. 22 games, he's playing 22 games over the last three seasons. Obviously was released by
the Cowboys and the Packers last season. I mean, it would be like a, okay, here's my two sides of
this. Like, you know, he is what he is, right? Like, we know what he is. However, maybe it's like
one of those things like we mentioned before, a culture shift. Like, I mean, maybe if he fit into
a DQ like culture locker room, that could be a turning point for him. I think that's a, you know,
I think that that could be a fair point because you come in, you like are into the right scheme
with the right defense of coordinator with the right head coach with the right guys around you,
this could be a reclamation project for him, you know what I mean? So I think that what the
front office I think has to consider with a guy like that is like, do the pros outweigh the cons.
Like, and you can't sit here and like, base the decision on potential, right? I mean, everybody
has potential, you know, I think that especially again, you're a 27 year old corner, we know what you
are at this point. We know that is there potential to get really great? Like, yeah, there could be,
per se, but I don't know for me, I'm not sure the pros out or the con pros outweigh the cons for
a guy like that. No offense to him. I think it would be a good fit because he gets to come home
and you get to probably weigh more reasons as to why he should make this make sense. But on the
field, I think I would hold off just for the time being. When you're trying to make an effort to
get faster on that defensive side, I don't know how fast, you know, Mr. Diggs is now. So I was still
one of my little young dogs run, right? We got Amos coming back. You guys, Sam, we're still. You got
a meek. You got a couple other guys on those. Are you comfortable? Is that enough though? Anthony,
is that enough for you? No, no, I think that you still got to get somebody. The couple of
names that, that David named, you know, would be, would be love. I was like I said, it would man,
would be mad at moving back about 15 or so and then picking up the lane, you know what I'm saying?
So and once again, another hometown kid, he's from Silver Spring. So you look, you get,
you got to get somebody. You have to get younger. You have to get another player
because once again, Diggs is his tapers. It's been on tape. You've seen it. You know what he does.
And that's also a guy that'll probably sign a little bit later on in the summer.
Right? You do you realize, hey, this is working. Let's, let's bring in the old vets,
see what he can do. So I would swing on the young guys first, Delane, Aviontero, anybody else
with a pawns out of Indiana. There's some other guys that are going to be out there that are
going to be viable. But I can't, I can't just go straight to, to Trayvon straight out the gate
and think he's going to be the savior for the secondary. Yeah, I think at this point, I,
I do agree with you, Melissa. It's kind of one of those like he is who he is where there's high
upside in moments, but we've just seen way too many injuries. And a certain point when a guy's
injury prone, it's tough to, it's tough to kind of get out of that mold. The NFL has given us
a potential, I guess the best way to put it another night for football, another day for football,
they're, they're exploring this next. It's Commander Squad.
All right, so Anthony Armstrong, Melissa Kim, Nick Ashu here. The NFL is reportedly exploring
the idea, exploring the chance to put another game now on Thanksgiving Eve, not, not, not
Thanksgiving night. You've already got three games. No, no, no, not Christmas, no, no, thanks
giving Eve, which this isn't as a, it's a go out time for a lot of people. It's a very social
time and everybody goes back home, maybe for Thanksgiving. Uh, listen, I love the NFL.
We don't need an 18th game. We don't need an extra week of regular season. And to be honest
with you, I don't need a Thanksgiving Eve game. We're starting to get to the point where you see
so much NFL that the novelty doesn't wear off, but it just takes away some of the specialness
of the, like the NFL is an event. Football is an event because it's not every day. You start
putting it every day. It gets closer and closer to what the NBA has where, oh well, if I don't have
that game, there's going to be another one the next night. You take away the, the, again, it's,
an absence makes the heart grow fonder or it's a supply and demand. Whatever analogy you want to
use, Melissa, I look at this and go, explore it all you want. Don't do it. We don't need an 18th
game. Give me more playoffs, maybe. We don't need a Thanksgiving Eve game either. I don't want it.
Look, I love football so much. I grew up watching this game with my family. And that's why it holds
such a special place in my heart. That's why I'm doing it as a career. And some of my best memories,
obviously, are, I mean, we didn't have as well as growing up and stuff like that, but some of the
college football games, right, during the New Year cycle and all that.
I think that maybe we should leave some tradition. The traditional traditions for the, for that
reason, right? Because you get them at a certain time. I don't know. I'm not in love with it.
Honestly, I get that the league is trying to expand and, you know, go to other countries,
have it. Well, like, you know, it's about money, obviously, at this point, with all these streaming
services, Netflix, Apple, everybody kind of getting into the streaming game for live sports.
And obviously, when it comes to live, professional sports, the NFL is king. So I understand why
they're doing it, but like, let's just chill. Like, we're, like, we're going to a couple of
the countries right now for the first time this year. Like, maybe like one thing at a time. We don't
need to go to 100 miles per hour. Like, let's, let's pace this. Let's pace this. And let's just
let it be because like, you know, there's that week, right? There's like thing that one week that
we always have during the year, we're literally, there's almost football on between college and
the NFL, like on almost every single day. And I think Wednesday is like the one day where there is
like Tuesday, there's like, action and stuff like that. So I think Wednesday is like one of those
days that has never really had games. So like, let's just, let's just chill for a second.
Man, yeah, I love that chill. Here's what you do. Take it.
Out of here. No, absolutely not. Don't sit here and play in my face talking about
we care about player safety and all this other jazz. And then you want me to go play on a random
Wednesday, all right? The Wednesday before the Thanksgiving. It's already three Thanksgiving
games on there. Those three teams are coming off for short weeks. The team before that's going
to probably come off a short week. Obviously, like, he, how do you prepare for the Wednesday?
And this ain't no, like, I don't want to play it back to back, like, like NBA does. Like, no,
it's just, that's just too close to get back to it. You know what I mean? That's just a little bit
too close to get back to it. Frankly, there's some people that are going to store to pick up their
ingredients for tomorrow for Thanksgiving, right? Just, don't ask for their radishes and everything.
They're grabbing a whole bunch of other things. Like, I say, leave it alone. Don't mess with it,
you know, because it frankly, everybody's going to forget. And then they're going to be like,
oh, damn, I didn't set my fantasy roster. He played on Wednesday and like, what? Yeah, it was like
JB football. Like, I don't think you need to do it. Who are you going to stream it on? I mean,
it can be maybe streamed on 2b, you know, let somebody else get in on the game. But I'm, I'm going
to say no. Matter of fact, I will take Brandon, I you before we take a football game. I'm in on
that. I feel I, I would take that too. Yep. It makes way more sense. Brandon, I you make more
sense as a number two receiver with that risk than a, what, and then a Wednesday night Thanksgiving
eating game. I'll take it. All right. Uh, checking now, uh, no other moves from the commanders at
this point. So we'll see if that changes at all by the time our next show happens. Make sure you
like and subscribe to commander squad on YouTube. Give us a follow on all the socials as well.
