Welcome into the GoVal's 24-7 podcast.
I'm your host, Patrick Brown.
I'll be joined on this episode by Ryan Callahan.
It is another Tennessee Commitment podcast.
And we have a lot to talk about here.
Ryan, Tennessee lands Keeshawn Bowman, a four-star top 100 wide receiver out of Brentwood Academy.
And this recruitment in my accurate and saying it has been all over the place
in terms of Tennessee's perceived or real involvement.
What can you tell us about how this one came together for the Vals?
Yeah, pretty interesting recruitment the past few months, especially.
This was one where Tennessee looked like they were kind of fading and out of it at one point
when he was preparing to commit back in February.
Now, originally before that, he committed to Oregon last year.
And backed off that early commitment in September.
At the time, it was coming off of visit to Tennessee for the Georgia game.
Or he went to Georgia right after he decommitted something like that.
He was at Tennessee right around the time he decommitted and then went back the following weekend for the UAV game.
So back around that time, he backed off the Oregon commitment.
You would have said, well, Tennessee looks like maybe the favorite to land him at that point.
In the early weeks of his junior season.
And then things went a little farther.
And then around the time, I guess around national signing day for the for the 2026 class.
He was on the verge of committing and it looked like a Vanderbilt Miami battle at that time.
And Tennessee was kind of out of it at that point.
So it's interesting how this has gone since then.
But there have clearly been some changes in this one over the past several weeks.
And Tennessee recently would kind of reported this on GoVal's 24-7 that Tennessee had some momentum in that one in recent weeks.
But it looked like a recruitment that was going to go through the summer.
It was planning official visits for the summer.
Tennessee was locked in for one of them.
But he was planning to go to Tennessee for spring practice.
And decided to go ahead and announce this decision during that visit.
So an impressive get here for Tennessee to get this one done relatively early in the cycle.
And to do this one on the heels of the Jaden Butler Commitment this week.
Pretty nice combination of pickups this week for a couple of their top in state targets in Bowman.
As you said, top 100 player nationally, this is a big time get for a number of reasons.
But especially to get done so early and to beat out some some pretty heavy hitters in that recruitment.
Yeah, Bowman is Tennessee's sixth commitment of the 2027 class.
The fourth in state recruit so far Ryan Princeton UEFA the offensive tackle from Murphy's burrow.
And now Bowman are the two blue chip four star guys in the class.
They also have Kaden five defensive lineman.
The aforementioned Jaden Butler who committed earlier this week.
He's an in state athlete and JP peace a linebacker and then Derek Baker is the quarterback in the class.
Bowman we have him listed at six foot and a half 176 pounds.
He is the number 70 overall player in the 2027 class according to 24 seven sports analysts.
The number 11 wide receiver and the number four player in the state of Tennessee.
In the 24 seven sports composite, which is still around.
Yes, it did not go away.
It's still there.
He is the number 41 overall player.
So a top 50 player in those industry rankings.
So you kind of touched on this Ryan.
I feel like Bowman has been on the radar even to someone like me.
I guess I'm just the football team guy.
You are the recruiting expert here.
But even even then Bowman seems like he's been on Tennessee's radar for a long time.
Have the balls always been kind of viewing him as a priority.
If he was committed to Oregon, he was almost going to commit elsewhere.
What sort of bend the path of Tennessee's interest in Kishan Bowman from your vantage point?
Yeah, the priority for Tennessee for a long time.
And really, this goes back to, you know, the very beginning of his high school career.
He spent a very brief time at Knoxville Catholic working there in the off season.
And looked like he was set to play there and then ended up enrolling at Brentwood Academy going into his freshman season.
So looked like he might be in Tennessee's backyard is originally from the Chattanooga area and then ended up at Brentwood Academy.
So a guy that's been on their radar for a long, long time offered him pretty early after that.
And really, he's been a top target for a couple of years now.
And Kelsey Pope, wider Severs coach has built a really good relationship with Bowman and the people around him and has done a nice job.
And even when he committed to Oregon early, you know, people were, people were pretty convinced that was not going to be the end of his recruitment.
Tennessee never really wavered in going after him and making him a top priority.
And you know, you can kind of see why the skill set lends itself to being, you know, to Keach on Bowman, potentially being a real playmaker in Tennessee's offense, the sort of his game.
And we can get into that in a minute.
But, you know, this was one where Tennessee never, never backed off and never was deterred.
Even at the time it looked like he was about to commit to either Vanderbilt or Miami back in February.
Tennessee was, was pretty adamant about making, making a big push there to, you know, maybe play a role in convincing him to push back that announcement at the time in February.
And keep, keep an open, have him, keep an open mind going into the final months here.
So Tennessee never, never gave up any hope, no matter what happened.
And everyone thought this was a long term recruitment. For that matter, it still might be a long term recruitment. This is only March.
So could be one of those that has some additional twists and turns, even though this is his second commitment.
And usually guys don't want to decommit too many times, you know, usually after, after one, one of those, you know, people try to try to wait and make sure they're doing the right thing before they announce another commitment.
So I think he's pretty, pretty set this time, but you never know in recruiting these days, especially so.
This is one word, Tennessee, absolutely wanted to keep Keishan Bowman in state and made him a huge priority and Tennessee's persistence paid off in this case and give Kelsey Pope in particular a lot, a lot of credit for the way he is recruiting Keishan Bowman and the relationship they have and just kind of the vision he is sold for what Bowman can do at Tennessee.
Kelsey Pope, awesome run of recruiting that he's been on as Tennessee's wider sewers coach when you look at like Matthews and Braille and Staley in that class, then the Regerius Jackson Travis Smith joking dots in class.
Obviously they got TK keys and Tyree King who's not here yet, but will be in the summer in this most recent cycle and look at Keishan Bowman over.
We got almost with 42 offers, which is a very high number having looked at all these profiles over the years.
Ron, you mentioned some of the teams that are organ Vanderbilt Miami were in there Alabama Miami and Ohio State are among the other teams that listed that were maybe in the deepest contention for him, but you touched on this too, just kind of the player that he is Bowman, if over a thousand yards as a sophomore, eight touchdowns.
This past season as a junior, he was a Mr. football semi finalist in that in the big private school division in Tennessee.
Just 49 catches for 600 six five yards and 11 touchdowns.
Obviously Brentwood Academy reached the state championship game where they lost a Baylor led by David Gabriel George's and then more recently Bowman was named the alpha dog of the opening Atlanta regional and earlier this month.
And he played in the under Armour All American game, which is now open under class as well.
So this is a guy that's our analysts have seen quite a bit. He's been productive for a long time.
I would guess by the size, maybe he projects like a slot is that right, what is your read or kind of what's your scouting report on on Keishan Bowman and I should mention now Andrew Ivan's our director of scouting.
We have some player comps on these profiles and scouting reports and his is Josh Palmer who obviously played at Tennessee.
Palmer was a little bit bigger than six foot 175.
But where do you see sort of Bowman projecting in Tennessee's offense? Obviously the balls have kind of switched things up and aren't running just full sideline to sideline splits anymore.
But how do you see him sort of fitting in in the offense when he gets here?
Yeah, I think he's one of those guys that can do a little bit of everything and probably can line up in the slot or outside.
I think he really can play outside though.
He's one of those guys that I think plays bigger than his size would suggest.
And he's a guy that can really really make good plays on 50 50 balls and contested catches and you know his numbers his junior year might might look underwhelming.
You see him on his huddle video at the beginning. He had like 665 yards 11 touchdowns 49 catches because Brent would academy blew out teams this past year.
They were they were a powerhouse team battling for a state championship.
So they didn't get to keep him in a lot of games. I went to one of his games and he was pretty much out right right around halftime and didn't get to do much but had a touchdown or two in that game.
So he I was at the I was at the state championship game. I think he had a drop in a key moment.
But that game was cold and rainy and not very cool.
Not a very conducive game for throwing the football very effectively.
Yeah, so he's yeah he's a big time playmaker.
So I I'm really high on key Sean Bowman.
The skill set is is I think Taylor made again for Tennessee's offense because he's a guy who can do something with the ball after after the catch.
And so whether it's in the slot, whether it's down the field on the outside, he can he can make a lot of things happen.
And so he's he's not a finished product by any means, you know, like any receiver he's going to have to come in and polish things up and pick up Tennessee's offense.
But it's not hard to envision him being a being a starter in Tennessee's offense and being potentially really good in the future.
So I think this is a really good pick up and I got like kind of like Tyrick King in a way which he's a little bit smaller than key Sean Bowman.
But another guy that I think like him is a very good fit for Tennessee's offense just because of the things he can do and just sort of the way you can move him around if you need to as well.
But you know can make plays down the field can can catch a ten yard pass and make it a long game.
He's just a really really versatile guy could take a screen and make something happen and that's that's the kind of guy that I think tends to thrive in Tennessee's offense.
I can see the the Josh Palmer comparison a little bit that's not the first name that comes to mind for me like you said Patrick Palmer a little bit bigger build and I don't know if speed was as much of a part of Palmer's game as it is for Bowman.
But I can I can see that and sometimes it's hard to translate a really good player in Tennessee high school football to college football because if you're if you're pretty fast in Tennessee you can you can run away from a lot of guys in this state.
The state's gotten a lot better the top level talent is definitely there but still sometimes the depth of competition is not always as good and so a really good receiver can kind of run away from people down the field.
So sometimes it's maybe hard to see that on film but I think Bowman's more a little bit more of a speed guy maybe than Palmer was coming out of high school but he that's an interesting comparison and I can definitely see a little bit of that.
So yeah he's just I think a really good all around receiver and definitely has the speed to be a downfield threat and just a run after the catch playmaker in Tennessee's offense.
Yeah listening to him listen to you talk about him a little bit playing a little bit bigger than he maybe listed as he ran in 11 5 900 as a sophomore which is not super fast but what you said that you know Josh Palmer was not a burner either he's more of a bigger body guy and he's obviously you know played pretty well.
Well at Tennessee and has gone on to a couple NFL contracts so if he if he's Josh Palmer that's not the worst thing.
No nothing wrong with that at all and I mean you see him I honestly some of his best plays I think do come on contested catches that's that's what I've been impressed by.
At the high school level at least and you know some of that can just be about the type of route it is but he can he can go up and get it he can you know you position himself well really good body control it seems like in those situations so.
Yeah I don't know about a 40 time a verified 40 time like you said those 100 meter times early in high school can.
Can be a bit misleading but you know that's that's not that's not a burner you know burner type time at that age but you know who knows what he would run today in the 100 so you know he's a guy that strikes me as having.
Pretty good I mean certainly football speed and I think translates well to to be able to do to do a lot at the college level so yeah there's a reason he's a top 100 player nationally usually.
And around his size six foot or six one you you've got to be pretty quick to be a really good player at that that size you know you got to have the suddenness the agility at the very least even if you don't have the crazy straight line speed so he's just yeah good.
Good all around receiver and and a guy that I think can can make a can make a lot of plays down the field you know Tennessee I think it's kind of sold.
Like a lot of these guys they've recruited I think they've kind of pointed to Jalen Hyatt is a little bit of the mold but I think he is a little bit of that high at type in the sense that you know maybe a little bit bigger than Hyatt he's around six foot I guess so not not too terribly different but I think they.
They kind of mentioned some of the similarities there that you know hey Jalen Hyatt might have been known more for a straight line speed in terms of track times and stuff but he.
He had a bit of a similar skill set in some ways to to Kishon Bowman's there's at least you know you can squint there and see you know a little bit of a similar type role maybe in Tennessee's offense and again it'll be interesting to see whether they decide to put him outside or whether he goes in the slot or they move around and do a little bit of both he's a little.
You know may a little bit of Mike Matthews in his game maybe is a good way to put it you know he's much Matthews is a bit taller than him but yeah I think a little bit similar in the way they played in high school where Matthews could make some really good.
Contested catches and things like that and he played defense to of course but definitely a guy that can can do a lot of things down the field especially and you see that all over silent tape.

Back in here on the go ball 24 seven podcast on Patrick Brown a cover Tennessee football for the site Ryan Callahan is with me.
He is the recruiting expert the recruiting writer for go balls 24 seven and Ryan where do we what does Tennessee's wide receiver outlook go now.
What's how many do they need to bring in this class.
What's sort of the who are some other targets where where who else could join key Sean Bowman and being part of this Tennessee wide receiver class in the 2027 cycle.
Yes, it's going to be interesting to see where this class goes at that position.
You have a lot of possibilities on the board this time of year so it's it's not easy to always project where things are going to go but Tennessee could use a little bit bigger wide receiver class and I feel like we've been saying that for a couple years now.
They don't play anybody that they don't they only play three guys that's the response you get when you suggest yeah.
And that's you know that that is a bit of a challenge sometimes that you don't play more you know this this year's one of those years they they probably need to play more they've got they've got some guys that are not going to be in the starting lineup that you can see playing big roles this year you know whether it's trusting keys to your TK keys or the true freshman.
Getting guy like Travis Smith junior on the field even if he's not the starting lineup you know we'll see for various Jackson can win that starting job but.
You know that they they might need to to sort of shoot that down a little more this year because yeah that that is a little bit of a.
Something that works against you sometimes on the other hand a lot of a lot of top programs you know Ohio State comes to mind they don't rotate a ton of receivers and and the ones you put out go to the draft it doesn't matter you want to have that to sell.
At the college level anyway that you're you're producing pros so so that that's not necessarily bad thing but yeah sometimes that does.
Make it hard to promise early playing time and things like that that would be appealing to a lot of prospects so.
But yeah they've got a lot of a lot of names on the board that they're involved with of sunny gales out of IMG Academy another guy IMG Academy that just visited recently Eric farland the third big time talent originally from Las Vegas he's more of a slot receiver really fast.
Eastern Royal Texas commitment he was you know at least scheduled to be in Knoxville this weekend at the time of this recording we don't know if he's going to for sure make make that trip but he's been playing to make that trip for a while so he's probably in town this weekend.
And then depending on what position some other guys played take walled in junior the athlete from call your bill another in state guy you know he's been recruited by a lot of teams as a corner back and it sounds like he's more interested maybe in playing corner but Tennessee has.
Been heavily involved with him as a wide receiver so he's at least an option there on offense some other other in state guys at least on the radar and again in this.
In this 105 man roster era you can certainly afford to take an in state guy that that might be you know under under previous circumstances maybe a little bit down the board you you can sort of take a flyer on in state guy but there's a couple of those they like.
In this class quite a bit of one of them day on day on Cooper but Tennessee just hosted recently and impressed quite a bit out of South Pittsburgh and he's he certainly wanted to watch.
Decorian Tramble out of Notre Dame high school and in Chattanooga so some guys like that in state Eli Ferguson is teammate at Brentwood Academy still has a Tennessee offer and has been on Tennessee's radar Brandon Brandon Lavel I believe I pronounced it from good pasture another guy that Tennessee is offered in state here in recent weeks so they've got a pretty good.
List of options and that doesn't include guys that I haven't mentioned to Sean Hall that just visited Tennessee this week six foot five guy out of Alabama that Tennessee's getting an official visit from.
It is really impressed so far so as you can tell healthy list of options and there you know I think ideally you would take at least three receivers in this class so we'll see how that shakes out in the coming months but.
You know last year they were in line to take four and then you lost two of them at the end sort of with a couple de commitments at the end losing legend Bay that.
And up signing with Tennessee then getting out of his sign papers and going to a higher state where it sounds like he kind of wanted to go all along and then of course the the other departure end up at Michigan actually i'm blanking on his name now Patrick out of Utah so let's see Moa.
That was flipped to Tennessee or flipped to Utah on signing day and then ended up following Kyle Wittingham staff to Michigan so those two departures late in that cycle kind of hurt Tennessee numbers wise so you end up with just.
Tyrick King and TK keys so it's it's probably time for Tennessee to get at least three receivers in one class what we'll see if they can get to four where they end up but that's.
It's been their hope a couple other times and the numbers just haven't added up for whatever reason so it's been a bit of a challenge for Tennessee to get a bigger receiver class but I think that's at least the hope that in this class you can get at least you want three quality ones and then we'll see you know what they end up with in terms of some maybe some developmental guys to give them some additional numbers there.
Yeah and you know be interesting to see I would assume Tennessee is operating on the under the insumption that Braille and Stanley Mike Matthews probably heading to the NFL after this season certainly they are draft eligible and have already put one pretty good season of film out there for each of them so.
You could have those two guys replace but like we kind of talked about Kelsey Pope's recruited this room where.
I mean theoretically you just plug in Travis Smith or there's Jackson keys at those outside spots and then you could have Tyrick King and joke and Dotson in the slot ready to take over so.
And you maybe would even have to go get a portal receiver in January which I mean that's you know they've had a couple of success stories there out of the portal that position but.
Man they can get pricey with with portal receivers there's a lot of them but it still seems like one of those positions that can.
I can get pretty pricey but back to Keishan Bowman Ryan is he a guy that could.
That other recruits will say okay he's going to Tennessee is he a guy that can help.
Build the class so to speak or is that sort of overrated in these NIL revshare days yeah I do think that's often overrated in this era because some of the guys are you know it's it's all it's more about what what school can do for the individual player and and with money being.
A factor that's that's going to be top of mind for a lot of players but yeah I think this is one that gets your attention especially because there hasn't been.
Maybe nationally just quite as much buzz about Tennessee but they've kind of quietly done a good job continue to do a good job in recruiting you know to put together a top 10 class Josh Hyples best class right on the heels of an eight and four season.
I think was was a pretty pretty big statement about Tennessee so to get a win like this in a really good year in state and to get a guy like this in the in the class early.
I think does send a statement for Tennessee and and might get some the attention of some other players in the state certainly in the national area everyone knows who Keishan Bowman is so you got guys like you know Mari Sanders in the national area right there with them you know that a guy like that you know it's probably going to at least take notice of that.
At the same time is that going to be the factor that helps Tennessee land one of those guys you know maybe not but I think it certainly helps to to have someone like that to to be a bit of a headliner early on and now yeah with with Bowman and and Princeton you way for you mentioned earlier he's he's ranked just outside our top 100 on on 24 seven sports right now that's a pretty good early pair of in state players and that doesn't even include.
Jaden Butler who I think has a chance to at least challenge for a four star rating here in the not too distant future so.
Got some pretty good in state players already and plenty more on the board that they're hoping to add so it's a very good start for Tennessee in state either way but yeah this is certainly one of the things going to get get some people's attention and yeah that you know Tennessee's been involved with some other other kids at Brentwood Academy.
They've got a cornerback that's at least you know on Tennessee's radar and Ramell Coon so that they've got some other good players there that certainly the key Sean Bowman would help with with guys like that and I mentioned Eli Ferguson earlier so so yeah multiple benefits to this for Tennessee but it's it's certainly a big one perception wise if nothing else to to know Tennessee's got this kind of player and this kind of in state priority already in the class before the end of March.
Yeah and you definitely want to you know keep the good good thing going Brentwood Academy that program always has a pretty good amount of quality talent coming through there Ryan before we get out of here recruiting never stops obviously Tennessee's had a steady stream of visitors over the past couple weeks with them having a spring practice on Saturday who are giving me three to four visitors that Tennessee fans need to know of whether that's because of where Tennessee's with them.
Or because this is a chance for Tennessee to make a move or however you want to rank them yeah also you told me just this weekend's visitors yeah that's been a pretty steady stream here lately so this weekend I'd say latent bond brand is a guy to watch what we'll see if Tennessee can make up you know make up some ground there I think they've been you know kind of sounds like an offensive he sounds like an offensive lineman yeah he's an offensive lineman the big one from Delaware not a place you see Tennessee recruit a lot but he's the top 100 player nationally he's got a crew.
First of all prediction for Notre Dame you know they took some other schools have been have been mentioned you know as heavy hitters and in that recruitment but Tennessee is as done a good job and been on his his short list for a while and getting him on campus this weekend a big deal so that that's one to to certainly keep an eye on we mentioned Eastern Royal earlier Texas wide receiver commitment that's one where you know that that's going to be a tough flip Ole Miss and some other ones are heavily involved in that one too so even if he flips elsewhere might not be easy for Tennessee to land him he's from Louisiana.
From New Orleans actually brother Martin high school so that that's that's an area that that's tough to land top players out of if you're not one of those you know certainly LSU usually involve with someone there and then you know it's a neighboring states usually tend to have a better luck stealing guys away from there but Tennessee's you know gotten some guys out of Louisiana in recent years Jordan Matthews was one so we'll see if they can can can make make up some ground with him they they've gotten official visit already lined up from Eastern Royal so that's you know a good sign for Tennessee that's going to be a good sign.
For Tennessee that you're that you're at least put in position to get multiple visits and they built enough of relationship there for you know that Kelsey Pope and the rest of that staff feel like there's a chance there and you know that I mean not not just a lengthy lengthy list of top targets in town but it's a it's a pretty quality list and one of the guys in state that I think I didn't mention him as a teammate of his that front would academy but you have to have to look at him as a as a real priority can assignment the second he's in town this weekend for his spring visits 10
to 10 to 10 that's another guy working toward a decision possibly this spring is at least flirted with that possibility so that's one to certainly watch and we'll see what he says coming out of this visit this weekend but uh as he's been in good shape there for a while but Alabama is a legitimate threat to Tennessee so that's been a real battle in recent months and that's a guy that you know that this might be a really important visit because he might not take official visits before announcing a decision so uh son of a former ball obviously Kevin Simon but that's not an open and shut case for Tennessee and they've had to had to find in that one and again.
Maybe uh maybe landing a teammate in in Keeshawn Bowman can help with the guy like an assignment.
Tennessee lands four star in state wide receiver Keeshawn Bowman Ryan has plenty of coverage up on the site so go check out his analysis and coverage of that it's a busy weekend for the Tennessee football program with a practice on Saturday we will have coverage
