Imagine Power. Sam and Al discuss life in recovery. Step 11 Readings from “Opening Doors Within” by Eileen Caddy and Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book. #12steps #recovery #addiction #AA #CA.
Good morning, son. Good morning, Al.
Morning, recovery people everywhere. Morning, Hamish. Morning, God.
It is March 10th.
I hope everyone's well from opening doors within.
Why not use what is yours to use?
What is the use of having an electric load in your room?
If you fail to switch it on and fill the room with light?
Why not keep turning to me for help and strength?
And use all those wonderful gifts which are there waiting for you.
See struggling on your own.
But when you know me and love me, you will want me to be...
Sorry.
But when you know me and love me, you will want to be ever aware of me and of my divine presence.
You will want to walk in the light, for where there is light darkness is no more.
You generate light by your positive, constructive living and being.
Therefore, allow nothing negative in to dim that light.
You may need to do it consciously until all negativity falls away from you.
And you learn to live positively all the time.
It may be a real effort for you to do it to begin with.
But gradually, it will become as natural to you as breathing.
Very good isn't it to be aware?
To be aware of your feeling?
To be aware of how, you know, it's ever been unconscious.
Not really knowing why and miserable.
You know, when you hear the words like we think alcohols have our own problems
and all our problems about our own making.
And you start to realise that is everything else is happening.
But it's how we learn to respond instead of react to those things that keep us more positive.
So, you know, you can go through life with the glass empty.
Everything is pessimist, negative.
I'm never going to achieve that.
Or you can be really positive.
You know, you were really positive in business.
You know, you had this vision of, you know, a bunch of money.
And you remain really positive.
And it seemed to work.
You know, you didn't ever set out to fail, did you?
And I do see some people that have got nagging down.
They think, oh, it's always me.
Well, it is actually, it is your attitude.
And it's perhaps the way you approach things.
You know, if you went into an interview thinking that you're not going to get it, you probably won't.
And it's hard, isn't it?
When some people have had so many knockbacks.
But you can see how people change when they come into the fellowship.
You know, they start gaining confidence.
You know, things work out better sometimes they don't.
But their attitude is really important to remain positive.
And you have to, it's again, it's about the awareness, isn't it?
And also sometimes, you know, being a bit of a people pleaser, you know, I would be very fake.
Everything is fine. Everything's okay.
And now I'm all like me to say, actually, I am worried about that.
You know, can I talk to you about it?
You need to share it or do something about it.
And that's different from everything's great.
Everything's fine.
Sweep everything into the carpet and pretend it doesn't exist.
I'm just thinking about being the difference between being conscious, subconscious or unconscious.
And, you know, so much of our thinking is in the subconscious level.
And I think that's where a lot of negativity lies.
You know, that kind of self-doubt.
Well, it's running programs from our past.
You know, and it's how you're bought up, you're conditioning.
But if you live in the present, you can override the subconscious.
You know, if you're living consciously, if you're being aware, you can say, well, that's what I was told.
But I don't believe that. And I'm going to override that.
It takes time. You have to be patient.
Well, we talk a lot about, you know, there might not be in your friend.
The ego is not your amigo for me.
And, you know, where do all these thoughts come from?
And, you know, that's your conscious thoughts, the ones that you're actually aware of.
Whereas the subconscious thoughts are running at a level below.
You don't, you're not even aware that they're going on.
It's sort of like, so they're so deep.
You don't see them or hear them or notice them.
It's like, I mean, and this is why it's so fucking difficult being human.
You know, because the brains are so complex and
I think is a different level, simultaneously, sort of observing my thoughts.
And I'm selecting which ones to take action on.
And then there's a level of subconscious thoughts that I'm not even aware of.
But you can recognize, starts recognize the patterns of your past and your old patterns of behavior.
And we can change them. You change things by habit.
You're wrong repetition.
But the, you know, the, the idea of being that, by repetition, I can be less.
They're different.
You change, you change the narrative in your head instead of being, you know, I'm not good enough.
Why am I good?
Why am I good?
I don't know, yeah, I've got some evidence of being good.
You know, and start to overwrite it.
And it is possible, you know, we can change.
And we don't have to do it on our own.
We ask, you know, we say it in our prayers, you know, to take away my difficulties that victory,
and then make them with this.
You know, it's, I ask for the, you know, negativity to be removed.
You do on a daily basis, don't you?
And I think it starts changing.
We can change.
You know, subconsciously, I would have reached for a drink.
Now I have to do something differently.
A reality is out there.
There are things that we're just about there.
There are a cause of concern.
And, you know, being worried, having anxiety.
It's an actual thing.
You know, I don't think I'm ever going to get rid of it.
No, but you can change it.
I think you can manage it without taking a drink.
So, we've got, we've got.
Don't be overwhelmed by it.
Yeah, we get on with service.
Don't, you know.
Again, it goes back to the starting super.
Can you change it?
Or accept it?
Yeah, I think the service is so key, isn't it?
Yeah.
You know, having that kind of reminder of your connection to God and power,
and being okay, you know, being worthwhile, being of value,
and, you know, self-conquering self-doubt.
But, you know, progress of perfection.
Where are we?
We are on...
That's nice, eh?
So...
It's a thentic sound.

proposition however these men and women are strikingly agreed every one of them
has gained access to and believes in a power greater than himself. This power
has in each case accomplished the miraculous, the humanly impossible. As I
celebrate the American stage, we'll put it. Let's look at the record.
That'll be enough for today because that's great important.
Yeah, so conceive of a power greater than yourself. That's the requirement.
So conceive or just conceive me.
That's a good trick you're doing. I think letting the seed germinate.
Conceive.
conceive means to a formed an idea, a plan or a concept in the mind or to
become pregnant. It refers to the inception of a thought imagined
developed synonyms include imagined, devised, designed, formulated, created.
Formulate, I think. Imagine. Yeah, come up with the idea of a power greater than
yourself. It doesn't seem to matter whether we agree with a particular approach or
conception system or the difference. We do need to worry about what other
deaths is doing. It's a question for the individual to settle for another
self. That is the whole thing. Right to that. That's the crux of the
masters until you know. And here's so many people say, I don't know what my
power is. You know, it's a bit, I mean, it's abstract. Well, I just, you know, I
thought moment in the park, then suddenly thought karma. Karma is a power
greater than myself. For the century, that's the two. That's the two.
That's enough. You know, and then, then it was like, well, you don't have to feel
the consciousness. You know, that's very cool. And then drop it in. You know, there's
all sorts of things going on. You know, power. A power greater than yourself. It
doesn't say supreme being. You know, I quite like creative spirit. You know,
as a way of expressing it, but fundamentally, it's like, if you can get an idea
that you can, you can, you know, be the glass half full with, you know, be, I'm like, I'm
going to have that to do me. So for me, it's, it's even living in fear that
everything's going to go wrong. Or having a faith that I'm going to be okay as long
as I'm doing the right thing. It's, it's, that's a different way of living every day.
I'll remind myself that I've got faith. I mean, I, I read the, you know, the, in
Fred's story, I talked about how special principles and so of all this
problems. And not really resonated with me. I just thought I like that idea of
all special principles being a power greater than myself. You know, these things,
things like honesty and courage are, you know, they are real. If you want to be more
like God, you have to be more good. You know, you have to live by the principles, you
have to be good. You know, a good person, not harming anyone like me used to. And that's
it. Just stick in there, no, no, in it. Stick in there in the God, become good. And you
move more towards the right column. The power of good. And you know, that was, that was
setting up. I did. Yeah. And it's like, for good sake. Do it for good sake. Good, I'm
at it. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. For good. Yeah. It's a good one. Oh, see, it might
be nice. Good. Good. Yeah. You like that, didn't you? That was a power of great. The nest,
isn't it? That little power of search. Thanks. Thanks. Have a great day.
Well, let's look at the record dance tomorrow. This power has in each case accomplished the
humanly impossible. So that's, that's cool.
