Cory Conroy's Trade Legacy: From Player to GM

Twenty-five years ago today, the Calgary Flames traded forward, Corey Stillman to the St.

Louis Blues for center Craig Conroy and a seventh-round draft.

Stillman had been a sixth overall pick back in 1992 and delivered solid scoring seasons

for Calgary earlier in his career.

Meanwhile, that seventh-rounder turned into David Moss, who debuted in the NHL for the Flames

in 2006-7 and hit a career high of.

Twenty goals during the 2008-09 season.

Moss stuck around until 2014-15 before moving on.

Conroy wasted no time making his mark after the deal, posting career best numbers with 27

goals and 75 points in 2000.

One, two.

He followed that up with strong play in 2002-3 and chipped in six goals during Calgary's

Stanley Cup final run in 2004.

After bouncing to Los Angeles and back, Conroy retired with the Flames following the 2010-11

season.

His impact didn't end there.

He transitioned into management, rising to assistant general manager before becoming

the team's general manager on May 23rd, 2023.

So far, Conroy is off to a strong start as GM, with smart drafts, savvy trades, and nearly

guiding the Flames to the playoffs last season.
