Council Calls On Government To Introduce Cost Of Disability Payment

I was contacted by the clear leader for them and they brought this motion to my attention.

They brought the merchant Dublin last weekend to my attention also and they raised the

fact that people are hurt and people are struggling and they felt very much so and they were,

I can say to myself, I can see that they were let down in the last budget where a payment

wasn't provided like it has been in the past to help with the cost of living crisis which

honestly affects people with disabilities a lot more than anybody else because they're

already suffering financially. They're already suffering from hardship. Some are suffering

from poverty and this payment will go straight to the person and would assist that person to deal

with the everyday cost of living and the issues facing them. We heard this week that Claire was

given over four million euro and funding for housing adaptations for people with disabilities

and for older people. When we look at the costs associated with adapting your home,

when we look at other things that have to be bought by people with disabilities and families,

that other members of the population don't have to worry about is it essentially attacks

on something that you've no control over at the moment? When you do your research into

a motion that is brought to your attention and you see that the actual costs have been disabled

in this country are massive. Your chances of being employed are a lot less. It's obvious as

the day of dawn is that an assistance payment is required, that an increase in current payments

is required, but right now at the core face of a cost of living crisis which has been accelerated

by the current global crisis, it is needed no more than ever, a single payment paired out to

people with disabilities to allow them to commode a poverty margin, to pay their utility bills,

to allow them to do a better job in the current claimant. It received good support today.

What would you like to see come out of this? Well, I would like to see the minister to acknowledge

the correspondence, understand the correspondence as came directly from the call face and to deal

with the request in the correspondence and that is put forward now a payment for people with disabilities.
