Cowboys Back Off Queen Pursuit

The Dallas Cowboys recently eyed Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen as a potential

fix for their thin linebacker group.

They only have three on the roster right now, with two being last year's rookies, Demarveen

overshown, Shamar James and Justin Barron.

Interest picked up last week, but the team backed away from talks earlier this week.

Their defense struggled badly last season, finishing 30th overall and allowing 377 yards

per game along with a league high 60 touchdowns.

They ranked dead last in past defense at number 32, giving up 251.5 yards through the air

and 35 passing, scores, scouts and insiders agree pulling out with smart, as the Steelers

have no plans to deal queen.

Money seems to be the sticking point, with him seeking more pay, while carrying a hefty

17.2 million dollar cap hit after a down year.

Queen still posted 120 tackles, 8 for loss, 5 quarterback hits and 1 sack, but it wasn't

enough to justify the cost for.

Dallas, the Cowboys need linebacker help without overpaying, especially with their rush

defense at 23rd, allowing 125.5 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns.

Looking ahead, the team will keep hunting for a veteran or draft pick to shore up that

spot before things get worse.
