D'Angelo Ortiz Hits First MLB Spring Training Single

DeAngelo Ortiz, the 21-year-old son of Red Sox legend David Ortiz, finally got his first major league spring training at Bad on Friday. Facing Tampa Bay Reliever, Luis Guerrero, he smacked a single inter-right field on a one-two sweeper pitch. It happened during Boston's two-nothing loss to the race at Charlotte Sports Park. Earlier chances fell through because of rainouts. He was called up as a minor league extra on March 7th for a home game against Tampa Bay, but heavy rain canceled the final three innings. A week later, another game versus the Orioles got washed out too. DeAngelo replaced Wilson Contreras at first base in the sixth inning, wearing number 44. He called the moment amazing and exciting with fans in the stands. He joked that his dad better have watched, or there be trouble. Meanwhile, Ray's manager Kevin Cash, who won a World Series with David Ortiz back in 2007, said it was pretty cool to see the young, hit or succeed.
