Commemoration

Today we commemorate Lucas Cranach and Albrecht Dürer, Artists. A close friend of Martin Luther, Lucas Cranach is best known for his altarpieces and woodcuts. Albrecht Dürer, an admirer of Martin Luther, is best known for his paintings and woodcuts. We remember these men for their contributions both to art and to the faith, as many of their works depicted religious stories and themes. The Church has a long history of employing skilled artisans and of using artwork to bring Biblical truth to the masses.
