This podcast is part of the Sports Social Podcast Network. Hello and welcome to your daily red podcast. I'm your weekend host, Guy Drinkle. And just when we thought the transfer window was done, drags us back in just because there's nothing else to talk about, because we played on Friday. That means the weekend is rather empty. So we had a weird situation before the new castle game yesterday on TNT Sport. Now I can't show the clip on the stream because copyright exists. And I'm not doing a podcast for no reason. I don't want to get taken down. So Julian Lescott and David Anstiner, they're rating people's transfer windows. And Julian Lescott, for some reason, mentions us with Danny Carvajal.
I think David Anstiner also mentions that we'll probably likely go back in for a couple of people in January. But he might have been talking genuinely about the January transfer window being busy of the usual. Which we might come on to if this only goes like two minutes, but yeah, so sticking with Danny Carvajal there. It's a strange one, isn't it? Because obviously in terms of right bucks in this general, maybe the last generation of full bucks. He's probably the most over looked, isn't he? They probably is the most over looked like when maybe it's Premier League buys, but you talk about trends, you talk about Karl Walker, certainly in the Premier League circles, the recent years of their furries, two fit seasons. And then over the greats like that, I'd probably see like Joshua, Kimmich, get more flowers. Barst has kind of had a problem position there for a while, haven't there? But in terms of a consistent presence, Danny Carvajal, excuse me, for what went there.
But Danny Carvajal was such a consistent presence in that real Madrid team who were just an absolute machine in the Champions League, especially. And look, it's a bit of a mad deal, isn't it? Because we have no homegrown spot left. I think the Saudi window is still open for the time being. I think it finishes today, but I'm not exactly sure on the hours. Could we do a deal where we pay up kiosks or our endos contract? I'm not sure if we could say unregistered Hugo whilst he's getting back to fitness. I'm not sure how that would exactly work, but I'd guess at this stage, because we did register Hugo and he was named in the list. It would be a case of us having to get rid of kiosks or endos most likely. Whilst the Saudi windows open, it's a possibility. I don't think we'll pay up either of them. I think kiosks are the most likely, because I think endos at least has a bitter value. He can play center back. He can play central midfield. He could probably do a job at right back in some of the domestic cook games.
Whereas kiosks, look, neighbor of them in the Champions League squad, but kiosks are seemingly already fell behind like kumas. But you could probably say the same endos fell behind mccone. So it's a bit of a strange situation, isn't it? But I have nothing else to talk about. So let's get into this free free free transfer that's not going to happen. So this is Danny Carval, we all know him, but this was last season. So last season, obviously real Madrid brought Trenton. But Danny Carval, 17 games there, 23 and all competitions, only a thousand minutes. And we'll come on to his injuries in a second. He obviously had a couple injuries last season, but one was big, quite big actually. But Danny Carval, how to mind knowledge was probably going to be he was ahead of Trent for most of the season from what I see. Obviously, Trent was dealing with with injuries as well. But right back spin a problem position for real Madrid for a little while.
Now that's why Valverde is played there quite a significant amount there when and bought dumb freeze this summer. So right back spin a string position to find a successor for this lot, a real Madrid. Now he's on a free transfer. We know that right back for us as a problem position. Ronald Arrejo was fantastic there on Friday. But before that Jeremy Fremppong had back to back bad games. Now, as I mentioned, we don't have a home a non homegrown spot for this lot, but let's go in and let's turn into magic London. We have a spot. Is it actually worth doing this for let's say a year long deal. I do it. I would do it because look we have a nice little Spanish call mixed with a nice French cord, aren't we currently? We obviously got the Spanish speaking manager and we have quite a young we've kind of the dressing room has gone a bit young recently,
which I think was needed obviously, but we have lost a lot of experience in recent times, especially in the summer we lost salad, we lost the lost robber season previous. We obviously lost Trent, we've lost Milner in recent years, etc. And there's probably many other that we can all think of. But we're quite young at the minute, aren't we? Obviously we brought in Barcelona's captain in run all the rare hosts, so that's inexperienced leadership role type person. Our current leaders of what van Dykes the captain, then our vice captains are Joe Ali and Dom Sabozlai. But beyond that, you're not looking out and screaming, there's captain material here and there's not leadership materially and maybe votes, grows into that maybe Gravenburg grows into that maybe trade grows into that who knows. I'm just picking out a few names there, but Danny Carver, Hall comes in, I'm not sure if he wants actually real Madrid club captain because it seemed to change all the time, but I've definitely seen him with the captain's and band on at some point in that stage.
So if this was actually a realistic thing and let's say he wanted, I don't know, a hundred grand a week with some bonuses for a year, would you do it? I'd probably do it. Cust look, he's got, he's better defensively than Frimpo. We know Joe Gomez is back training next week. How long will he stay a foot for? We're already short at center back for the time being because look, Ronald, the Raheho was that good at right back. I think most people would agree we'd like him to stay there. Certainly till Gomez and Bradley get back up speed. That means we're short at center back. So even if a Raheho, even if him, Carver, Hall came in and he was just the backup right back to a Raheho or Joe Gomez, whichever one is doing better in that position. It means then there's less pressure on the Yoni coming back, who obviously had a very, very serious injury. Less pressure on Gomez to be fit, which we've never really dealt with at all. Have we as a club? And doesn't mean we have to we don't have to rush back Bradley unless that position struggles.
And probably more importantly, as harsh as this sounds, we won't have to see Frimpo as much. And then Frimpo can be, I don't know, a situational player where we might need more pace in attack or coming from right back. Someone who's good at pressing, probably good at overlapping and couldn't take advantage of tired legs. Or invite if we flip it round, we could bring Carver Halle and as a lockdown defender, say if we started with a bit more of an attack minded one like, like Frimpo, which kind of goes against what I've just said. But if we want to bring on someone to show our things up, we could bring on I think he's 34, one of the best defensive and big game players for real Madrid in a madry on the drifting. Like look, he was he was excellent in Champions League finals against those he was probably up there for one of the best players in the tournaments. The was it 2022? It's he just has that gene about him that real Madrid gene where he will do anything to win. And I think we might need that in certain situations. So I do it.
What do you reckon, chat if anyone is in the chat? It's a tough one. It is a tough one because look, it's not realistic because we don't have the spot. But if we could get rid of one of the lads, is it actually worth it for the year? I just don't think it can't hurt us. It can't hurt us. We're not like getting committed to three years for this lad. It'll be a year with an option at max on it. So I'm sat here thinking if it was possible, it'd be an oh, it'd be a good deal. But let's look at his injury history because that's probably one of the things that is actually off putting. So I swapped the screens there. So 2526, which was the most recent recent season. Helline Crack in the foot. This was right in May. So you're only missed 10 or two games there. Obviously would have been more if that was a more untimely injury. But knee injury, that was in the end of October and he missed 69 days, 12 games. And at the start of September, he had a muscle injury and missed four games. So that's a lot of games to miss.
So obviously that's a concern. He has obviously had big injuries in his time there. Like on the screen there, we've got a crucial ligament injury where he missed 56. But he does pick up the odd little knock there, doesn't he? Missing a month there with a calf injury only missed four games though, which isn't too bad. But look, he's obviously had a history of some big injuries there. One last season. 34 now. It's tough, isn't it? It's tough. Like if we go down to the totals here, 108 days missed by injury. With free separate injuries, 18 games missed. It's not the worst considering what we do with Liverpool, like God of Rathley's miss so much time, Joe Gomez missed so much time. But we have, we've just kind of left this position for the future people to deal with, haven't we? But if it was possible, I'd do it. I would do it. Let's have a look at some other stats and stuff that came that I've got before us.
So where does average rate and there's average rate. So average rate and yesterday, yesterday last season, 6.75. Look, it's not, it's not great. But he did have some big, big-ish performances. I mean, 7777. I'm not going to go through them all because that would be very boring. But like considering some of the performances, we've seen it full back even in Trent's time here, 6 out of 10 to be grand. 6 out of 10 would be grand. It's a strange one, isn't it? It's a strange one. But like it's so weird that Julian Lescott mentioned that in front of David Ornstein, isn't it? And I don't think David Ornstein dismissed it because he could have just easily said, well, that's, that's absolute bollocks. And he didn't. Maybe because he was on TV and he was being polite. But you do wonder where Julian Lescott heard that from. Was it David? It was. I don't know. Was it just something offered about it? Because obviously Lescott does have ties, well, to the city with Everton and Manchester area, you're obviously so you don't know what agents easy.
You love contacts with and stuff like that. So it was just a really random one to bring up, wasn't it? Now. It's annoying because there's not many other free transfers we could even look at. Like I think a lot of them are attacking plays or if anyone really wanted Pogba Roger and Sancio beat my guest. But like there's not even like an experience center back there. I think the only other right back off the top of my head. And I'm not sure if he's actually found a club yet is that deata who was the right back for Senegal and the World Cup. It's just one of those things I don't think well, we shouldn't be addressing it with a free agent. Let's be honest, but that should be where we started this podcast. But if it's a possibility, I would do this. I would do this in a heartbeat just because right back such a. It's an annoying position. We just not. We don't have the correct options for. We just exactly as a bomb. He says there are gourmets is unreliable fully agree we like.
Even if even if this lad was coming in as like a third choice right back behind a rare hole Gomez and then it was him. He'd probably still get minutes whether the domestic cups or champions league or whatever. And then the cost go almost won't play enough. He probably won't play enough like it's completely random like I mean the last time Gomez played significant minutes in a Liverpool shirt was clops last season. And I was a while ago now. It's. It's just an annoying one. It feels like it this should have been an easy fix. Like right backs. I don't think right backs have to be special like we had our special right back in Trent and we're never going to replace him. So I think all we needed was an open down normal right back to make a massive impact like look. A rare for the other night was good. He was good. I don't think he was magnificent like it wasn't an old timer. It wasn't an old time a right back performance because it's against dips which I never was going to be that.
But the fact that he was just went in there and was just. It was fine. He was good. He's fine. And look at the difference in the in the reaction from the fan base. We were all just like that's right back. So it for the season. Then we're going to play our center we're going to play a backup center back there all season. It just it does some up how much of a problem position it's been. And that's why we're talking about 34 year old right free agent that isn't going to happen. Let's be honest. It's such a duff position. We've left ourselves in. Yeah. It's an annoying one. It's an annoying one because look Leon is back. I think he did he say in the international break, which isn't too far away. We've got Gomez back if he however long he can stay fit for. I doubt we I doubt we'll consider this because look we're paying a lot of money to. Frimpog will be on decent wage. Gomez is on a decent wage. Array hope. I know he took a price.
A wage cut to to to come to Liverpool. Didn't he? But he'll be on a decent wage. Like offering out an extra 100 grand plus to Danny Carver. I just doubt will the ownership will will want that really. Like we spent a lot of the summer last couple of summers fixing the wage. Nobody loves it. It was obviously massive. It was the biggest in the country legal in the country. Whilst more Sala was here, wasn't it, and we've done that reset Where we've obviously handed out these new contracts and by most reports we've kind of gone away from the bonus structure a bit so we can actually plan what we're paying these players. So in terms of that with the financial reset we've kind of done I just don't a reality and even if there was a homegrown spot I think we'd rather just wait till January there's obviously a lot of games in that time but it's annoying but look we're free games at a new season our right back who was trusted to be
the right back has already been dropped for a center back. We're kind of desperate here we're kind of desperate for options but I don't think Danny Carver Hall is that guy but look he he is a legend he he's had some massive moments in a real Madridshire annoyingly for us a couple occasions there he was excellent and was it the year they beat Dortmund as well? Maybe in that year's get mixed up he was really good against us he was really good in that Dortmund gear for him and be correctly he just does that zombie real Madrid game doesn't he? But look if it's something that's actually possible it'll be interesting but as I said with the Saudi window closing today it's just not going to happen it's just not going to happen. I don't think there's much else in terms of Liverpool news I did mention that David Einstein kind of mentioned as probably probably being busy in January. Now what does that mean does that mean we're gonna it'll be that day one situation of a remain comara? I mean
legally we only buy wingers in January don't we? I mean technically we bought Jackie in January but he's arrived I'm not sure if that counts we only signed Diaz and Gakko in January to my knowledge. Basuma a few years ago would have been a shot I did like Basu. A bright and he was really good wasn't even a vignette he was he was a good player I think when you get that spurs stank on you you just don't want that day like I know Dave's a big fan of Archie Greer he's got that spurs disease you don't want it you don't need it in your team you just can't have it so yeah but he's a talented player I'm surprised nobody's picked him up but he has had a couple of off-pitch issues hasn't he but like I don't know would one of the new promoted teams be a good option for Basuma probably but I mean Coventry spent big money on that young Ganean Laddentner a hole they're gonna win the league seemingly which is great it's maybe a weird one maybe a weird I'm not sure where he could go
palace maybe weird one weird one but I could see him getting a move quite later on he's a good player as you said the spurs but all that buzzer DNA yet exactly exactly we don't need that we don't need that anywhere near us because they are awful like I know I know this is a Liverpool show but god god done they were very fortunate to not lose to forest yesterday it probably was a handball on that penalty but I mean in another situation I think forest probably should have had a penalty I think I remember correctly but good good god yeah not enough of spurs because nobody wants to talk about spurs they are funny as a club but yeah on January window look like a look I know it's been stupid talking about January in September but it's he did mention it he did mention it but look I think I think the minter ones and easy want to come back to it wouldn't surprise me if we depending how the midfields doing if we leave that till the
summer because look Kamara had another good game going off my Twitter against PSG yesterday and it kind of adds to the annoyance but I think there's a reason we want minter I think obviously left footed bit more of a secondary piece I think he'll help the main men be better whereas say some people might mention Ryan for instance who's obviously got that release clause for is it 2027 or is it next summer but I don't think we'd go and spend a hundred thirty million on a no-bow winger whereas I think minter is like a supplementary piece where he'll he'll do the dog work a bit more and help create space for the other players so it won't surprise me if minters the one he was kind of hinting at if he was hinting at anything in January I mean Kamara would be lovely like look I know I was on raw and we talked about the midfield but I
think that I think the midfield was good the other night I think Mikalus looks fitter than he did all of last season I think Dom was a lot better I think he was good at covering the fullback I think he was good in being disciplined I think there's on ball stuff to work out echo asked here could we sign Carb Hall now because he's a free agent we could sign him echo but we'd have to get rid of someone to register him so we announced the squad didn't we for the Champions League and the Premier League so we don't have any non-home grown spots left so we'd probably have to get rid of Keeh's or Endor the Saudi window is still open technically I think it just closed today so I'm not exactly sure on the time but we'd have to make a spot with him either releasing one of those lads or someone by someone quite late on in their windows I think there are other ones that open but it's like Croatia and Romania or something like that and I doubt we'd sell anyone there what's worse Japanese not weed or spurs disease it's always spurs disease always spurs disease
it's yeah I just needed something to talk about so we've ended up on the January market here but yeah I think Mint is most likely he's obviously younger left hand left footer gives us balance Camara would be nice a right back would be lovely but look we have to I think we have to get better at selling people I think we just have to get better at selling people like Asuka is Jones at his debut yesterday and made a good impact off the bench by all accounts but 30 million for him in getting this season's market was absolutely criminal we have a decision to make on Gakpo obviously who started the season excellently but there's still a decision to be made there who else have we got will probably have clear ideas what how far along Q goes back fit Bradley the same situation but how long can he stay fit for who knows who else could we sell endoc he is a they're probably the ones for now but center back
we've not really got anyone we can sell semi-casts yeah obviously Luke chambers is still at the club business so we could get rid of semi-casts to open up a spot we haven't got loads of sellable assets I think that's the thing isn't it obviously we've got contract dilemmas as well with Van Dyke and Alison could we reopen the Mamadash really think obviously the last minute thing there I don't think for a sign to goalkeeper did the Matt sells played yesterday so I don't think they did so we do have some sellable people I just don't think there's much massive money over the Gakpo to be made but we do have to start selling lands because look we had the highest net spend and our summer was kind of crap by my hot account I think most people agree our summer was crap but we have the highest net spend I know obviously back all it was huge money but we have no one to sell I just want let me get down screen but that says I just want a competent spotting director recruitment team kind of wants to go back to buy to get 30 40
million gems and then becoming ballers I agree I agree with that I'd love that to be possible maybe it's less possible in this day and age because I think everyone knows everyone it's just everyone like I think as soon as a Premier League club becomes interested like we saw it with the NBA situation didn't a PSG give us one one price to give Leverkus and one price and they give us the villa one price as soon as we who are seemingly open to spending a hundred million plus on play is quite easily I think the price just goes up quite a bit not to big him up but Mark Goldbridge always talks about talks about Man United tax I think it won't surprise me if there's a Liverpool tax on certain players as well but look I think Mooners we've kind of got one of them haven't we even it it's it's up to the recruitment staff to become that and I think that's why we're seeing as buy younger players I think obviously the young Belgian goalkeeper Brugmans I think we're trying to buy before they become
massive stars now like look we've we've got the French lad and Gessen and Duckwear even like the ones who are in the squad now Neonie Rio like I think we're I think that's where we're trying to find our gems now they're the dry fruit excuse me but I think that's where we're trying to turn our 30 40 million gems into like two million gems that we kind of just promote from the Academy I think that's where we're going to go with that. Her dream is David Anstein becoming our sporting director I was assuming it was some kind of joke yeah definitely some joke. Anstein makes more money doing the athletic than he could be doing our sporting director. A bit of an injury thing from Lord Havan Mercy. Cavaliers injury recent injury record is devastating 76 plus gains out catastrophic knee injury knee blow out October 2024 yeah look I I went through it just a second ago they're mercy of what's character there I don't know I just hit me like PTSD that good Lord yeah it's one of them I think
it would be a short term deal if it was anything it's too much and looking but he's 34 he fell down the peckin order at real Madrid for a reason and they've bought two out how many great backs of their bought Trent Dumfries there's my smoker I'm going off which is fantastic but yeah I don't think the bottom of the right back but yeah he fell down the peckin order for a reason but yeah that's basically it for me I was scrambling around for a topic because there's no game this weekend because we played on Friday which is great it's great because you get your weekend free but I'm scrambling for stuff to talk about but yeah Cavalier half of me if it was doable I'd do it on a short term cheapish basis and January having January will be fun I think a lot of the I think a lot of the big clubs kind of undercooked themselves like just to quickly go through them Arsenal they left their attack they well they left it worse off didn't they spurs a crap we went through that funnily they could but they could buy
2010 peak Messi in the crowd who else have we got Chelsea Chelsea have an opportunity this season don't know because they have no Europe but I think one injury to say Jal Pedro I think they'll be in bover but Col Parma looks good Morgan Rogers started well but yeah I think Chelsea have a good opportunity but they made fields a bit of a mess I think defensively they've got levels to go up still Arsenal are definitely the favorite so me we've got stuff to do obviously midfield right back right right wing it seems fine at the minute doesn't it with Moon as I started the season excellently but so we do have some gaps there and some squad of gaps but if I young players turn up like if trade turns up this season we might save ourselves a lot of money that I think that's the good thing um man United a crap man United a crap yeah know that you you find Lord I appreciate any any comment but no yeah yeah the injuries the injuries are a concern be out of you say if 35 in January it's um
it's a it's a strange one isn't it it's a strange one but I think that's why we just kind of left ourselves in right back um I will come to you in a second because that is a good question to finish on um it's yeah I think January will be busy I think it will be busy for the big clubs but um if we're in a good spot and let's say we're somehow in a say somehow we've got to really good team if we're in the title race and we just need that extra x factor or the x factor we have the x factor if we need that bit of steel in midfield or right back I think that's where we could look in January um but let's finish on this I think it's a good question by the net there uh would you make a Rejo's deal permanent he's looking really impressive 47 milla tad too high for me though I mean look it's free games and he might have some people have said he's got the balls or gene that we mentioned about spurs earlier on but 47 million who did that buy this summer Van Hacker was over that he was 50 odd wasn't he um what are the centerbacks moved
eh condo was more condo was more wasn't he um um I'm trying to think what centerbacks moved but 47 million isn't that I don't think that's that much so if he stays on this form than it I'd in a heartbeat I'd do that it's if he stays fit and he's okay being like a good rotation option in in right back in centerback I'd be very happy with it but what does the manager want because I think what we what we got from the manager I think he's played a Rejo there out of necessity more than anything because look I think I think I think and don't he would want an actual right back there like if you look at his um bond with right backs they had Alex him and Ed's who he's gone for a reason uh but he was basically a winger turned right back um add it is Adam Smith Adam Smith was more of an attacking right back uh Max Arons the boss but that might have been more eddy how I remember correctly but he
was more attack minded but um look with the way I made field is maybe maybe he's fine having a bit more of an attack minded midfield as long as we have a third centerback at right back but with the way the squads kind of panned out I think a Rejo Gomez whilst he's fit I think that's probably our best options at right back so if he stays on this form I think 47 mil is a bit of a bargain obviously the wages will be high he's probably I mean Barcelona funded out like 200 grand a week like a lolly pop at some stage isn't it so I'm guessing he'd probably be on the best part of 200 grand if we did buy him but for that price if you were saying I'd rather have a Rejo than say Van Heck I'd take a Rejo be honest I think is I think his ceilings higher but his floor might be but currently currently he's been excellent four games time I may look like an idiot which is very possible um yeah but let's uh you've got another point now let's this is the last one we'll go
from uh as a side point and speaking of a sellable assets frimpong would be top of my list I don't see the point you've been in in the team yeah you're probably right there aren't you the only thing he's home grown he's home grown he just doesn't really have a position does he he's not a right back and he's not he's not good enough to be our right winger but is he good enough to be back up in both of those spots no no probably not um how much would we get for him we spend about 30 on him we probably make a loss you'd have to tag it a team that plays free at the back wouldn't you know Bundesliga team probably won't pay that much for him who plays free at the back Serie A teams they don't do money hmm I mean Roma have a little bit of money and I'm assuming Gasparini still playing free at the back maybe somewhere like Roma Saudi Saudis always the dream isn't it but I agree with you I think it
is edging towards him even I would rather like like I know some people mentioned like Mabaya who's obviously in the Premier League squad like it's got I think it's got to the state with frimpong where it's a lot we've not seen playing a Liverpool shirt since like preseason probably like four years ago where you like can't be that much worse um but yeah um I'm with you there I think we're edging towards selling frimpong and I agree with you there Lord we need a robust right back so more fraud your players can I really they're all the developed frimpong time we'll tell yeah I trust they're all to develop play as well um but I just don't think you can I don't think you can make frimpong a right back maybe you can improve him as a winger but I don't think a right back is there but somehow I've made 30 minutes of what was a 10 minute show so I will finish up there thank you everyone for listening thank you everyone on youtube stuff coming out on the show we had um cop curious ease last night so check that out on youtube and on audio if you want something for your
holes uh did it I'm not sure I can and what's out tonight but um Monday day of day of this will be busy and presumed with media matters and all that jazz it's my day off I don't care but day of day of Hendrick is back so I don't think this won't be on youtube um like it was last week so you'll get Dave back with the audio versions I think we're doing scouted tomorrow so that should be out I need to double check that um but for me personally I will be back next weekend with daily red um but yeah thank you everyone for listening I will catch you then bye bye
