About 10 years ago, neurologists from around the world convened to discuss a strange phenomenon.
People who faint as soon as they get out of bed in the morning.
The keynote speaker explains that fainting is caused by standing up too quickly.
The sudden shift from lying down to standing disrupts blood flow,
which takes about 12 seconds to adjust from the feet to the brain.
She advised sitting on the bed and slowly counting to 12 before standing to prevent dizziness or fainting.
And the crowd gave her a standing ovation.
Right after her speech, a religious Jew, also a professor, asked for permission to speak.
He said, by us Jews, we have an old tradition.
Immediately upon waking up, we recite a prayer of thanks to the creator of the world,
thanking him for granting us the privilege of waking up healthy.
This prayer is composed of 12 words.
And if we recite it slowly with concentration, it takes exactly 12 seconds to say.
Moida Annie Lefanecha, Melachai Vakayam,
Shechazar Tobi Nishmossi Bechemla, Raba Ammonosecha,
and the crowd burst into a standing applause.
This time, it was for the creator of the world.
