We now return to the Dave and Molly show. Hey, welcome back everybody. Dave and Molly show continues. And as we get ready for the interstate fair, opens tomorrow. There's some cool things they're doing out the fair. One, as we learned yesterday, they got a pig. They just do stuff at any time. This is way better. We've got Aaron from Brown Distillery. He is the master distiller. Master distiller, yes sir. How do you get to be the master distiller? Basically, a lot of years and putting in the time and work and pushing your way through and learning the trade. Hopefully, one day it leads you to where I am now. Being a master. So, I'm a little obsessed with this boblin. Well, this Cedar floral gin. Let's talk about that. Yeah, so we've been teaming up with the Spokane Interstate Fair for the last three years.
It's been a great partnership for everyone really. And each year we've done it. It's progressively gotten a little bit bigger and more intricate. The first year we did this, we did just a special blend of bourbon, Bose blend, which was representative of the goat that is the Spokane mascot. We got to see the goat. Yeah, we did. And so last year we kind of upded a little bit. We didn't necessarily do a product for the fair, but they wanted to do something unique and interesting and they did the speak easy. You know, a place for people to come and sit and enjoy and relax and have cocktails and have this very kind of intimate space to enjoy the fair. So year three, we're back, we're bigger. We've doubled the size of the speak easy. They wanted two additional products. So we're bringing back the Bose blend. It's a three barrel blend of a variety of years of age product that we've had, a very nice intimate bourbon. And then we also created a gin representative of cedar, the Highland Cow that was going
to be another mascot of the Spokane fair. So we created this floral cedar's gin that people can enjoy and have some nice, refreshing cocktails based with that spirit. It's still nice. Molly, you bought both of those, right? Yeah, we became a member. Yeah, she went all in. We joined. Well, we had the bees knees. Now is that the gin that goes in the bees knees? Yes, ma'am. Okay, that's what I thought. So then, because of what we do, we then have to be obsessive and go get the lavender bitters and the this bitters and the slices of orange and the things. And so that we can almost duplicate the bees knees at home and the honey syrup stuff but I am not a gin person. I've never been a gin person until I tasted this gin and I love it. Well, that's terrific. We love that. It's really and we were just kind of sipping it separately too and even to sip on it, I enjoyed it. And then your other gin, what's the other gin called?
Because there's two. We have a lavender for gin. And that one is good as well. And then we got some vodka. I don't know. The whole line up. The whole line up. Yeah. And the chronologically, which I know the wine was the, of course, everybody knows about the brown wine. But then what happened when you got into the spirits? Yeah. So we are traditionally a wine based company. You see a brown, wines and almost every grocery store retailer very prominent among Washington. In 2021, brown, the company started to purchase the distillery. Andrew Brown, our owner, is actually from Spokane. He wanted to have something in his local community that could be representative with him. And so the distillery was up for sale. It used to be the old warrior distillery. Brown was looking for an opportunity to get into the spirits industry. So in 2021, they purchased the distillery.
And ever since then, we've been pushing forward with the brown products. The other thing I love, the you guys have a great location there. It's really wherever we went, you can sit outside and it's really, it's like in the industrial. So you come around the corner and all of a sudden there's a distillery there and you can sit and have a cocktail. That is really cool too. Yeah. The distillery itself is almost its own speakeasy. You know, we are in this very off the beaten path location. It is very industrial. There's not a lot of foot traffic. Still a lot of people in Spokane don't even know that we are there because of our location. Yeah. And one of those locations and one of those environments where you actually come in as friends and you leave as family. Oh, well, I know we went, I went to pick up something and Ken went to pick up my boyfriend and everybody was so nice. Just very, hey, how are you doing again? Like they remember you and it's a great setting or a great place to have like a gathering.
You know, there's a big bump, but you're going to beat the speakeasy. So now the speakeasy has doubled in size since last year because they had it and then they said, oh, well, we need it was a big hit from multiple sources. I've heard it was a very big hit. So that's pretty cool. And then there's going to be there's live music in there too. Yeah. This year, you know, as Molly said, we've doubled the space or the fairs double the space. From my understanding, there's going to be a live band Friday and Saturdays. So we really encourage people to just come out and enjoy the music and the environment and have a cocktail with our spirits and the Kevin Shay band is going to be there. And they have like five to six thirty Friday Saturday, they're all different times and you can go on the website. The that's the other thing is super cool this year is the fair website is so user friendly. You can really find everything you want to find. But the Kevin Shay band will be there. And then the mixologist, it's you have Lauren, the rock star bartender who's going to
be doing stuff and it's tangent hospitality. Right. So they're part of all of this as well. Yeah. So this year, we've, you know, we're teamed up with the fair as we know, but we also have partnerships with Tang and hospitality who, you know, they own a lot of the restaurants in Spokane, barachos and the globe. Yeah. All those. So many on that corner. Yeah. And then we also have the Washington Lottery who has partnered up with us. Yeah. Lottery. We love the lottery. These are all the things we love. Alcohol, gambling, the fair. Speaky Zs. Speaky Zs. You have nice quiet secret environment. The live music. Everybody's happy. And so is the Speaky Z going to be open every single day that the fair is open or is it only Friday and Saturday nights? No, it will be open every day. Good. I believe it opens at two. So you don't have to be limited to just the weekends if you were an individual that can make it out during the week. Then we really encourage you to just come check it out.
It's a very unique experience. It's great atmosphere. So it's, it's terrific. I like it. I'm formulating a plan for tomorrow already because we're going to be out there and I'm just thinking there's a way. I drop the dog off on the valley, get an Uber. Then six. Six bees. Six bees. Six bees. Needs later. Yeah. I'll be on the tilt to world. That's great. Make sure you shoot some video too. Yeah. Get on camera doing. Keep on myself with an elephant ear and an pretzel and all the things that they have there. I think this is great. This will be a lot of fun. We're happy that we're happy to meet you. We are so happy to be out there for the little press day. I got to know all about it. And yeah, it's good stuff. So you guys have the, you have the gin. You have the bourbon. You have multiple gins. Yes, we do. And then and the vodka too. Yeah. So we have a whole variety of spirits at our actual facility. You know, we carry a handful of our wines. Pretty good sortment.
We have all the spirits that we, we have in retail and then we have a tasting room, exclusive spirits as well. So if you're a whiskey drinker, we have a bourbon, we have a single malt, we have a rye whiskey. We have a variety of vodka, a lemon, a huckleberry, a regular vodka. And then we have, you know, some, some flavored spirits as well. We have like a cold brew vodka. Our vanilla bean bourbon is one of our most popular items. That was the other one we tasted that was so good. Our from Michelle Dessage that they would love the espresso vodka. That's the coffee. Yes. What's your favorite thing of all? My favorite thing of all, my favorite thing of all is actually not in bottle yet. So it's like, I've got experimental whiskey sitting in barrel waiting for their day to embrace the lips of people and only a master just still would know that. Yes. So it's yet to be. It's yet to be in bottle. But out of all the products that we currently have, I would say either just our traditional
reserve bourbon is a very proud pleaser or the vanilla bean for sure for the individuals with a wheat or palate. And here's the nice thing about the vanilla because I kind of went to the clearer thing, you know, staying away from the bourbons and stuff. But that has a sweetness, but it's not overpowering. It's just a hint of sweetness. So you don't get that same, you know, if you're having peanut butter whiskey or one of the honey whiskeys or whatever, this is different. It's just a hint of it. And I like that. It's more subtle, not overwhelming. Maybe our eye call our gin and our vanilla bean bourbon, kind of like gateway spirits. You're not, oh, maybe you're a wine drinker, maybe you're a beer connoisseur. But if you're interested in getting a little dabble in some spirits, these are two options that are easy on the palate, easy to drink, and maybe open up your options a little bit. So you mentioned the wine.
Can I get wine in the speak easy too, or is it just the spirits? I believe it's just the spirits I could be wrong. That's going to push me into the spirit world. Uh-huh. Join us. I'll be a spirit in the material world. There was a time when you were, oh, see, there was a time when you weren't a wine person and you're a wine person. So there's always room to grow. Yeah. I went from vodka. Vodka was my first thing. And then, you know, vodka is still pretty good. I did a bourbon tour in Louisville, so I kind of learned a little bit about that. But if, you know, if you're in a situation, well, when in Rome, you're in speak easy, and they got the bourbon there, I got to, I got to do it. Try it. Be wrong not to. Be rude not to. It'd be rude. It'd be rude. It's our job. As a Kentucky, and I would be very disappointed if you didn't try the whiskey. Are you from Kentucky? I am. Oh, nice. Okay. Louisville. Okay. From Claremont, the homogen beam grew up to two miles behind it. So we did the tour.
He's been in the backyard the whole time. So it's in your blood. Basically. You raised it probably was in your water. Urban in blood. Yeah. I loved Louisville. I just, what is that? Is it fourth street? What is the book? Yeah. Yeah. Down. Down. It's just, it's just fun. It's all bars and live music and, um, yeah. I think Kentucky's beautiful. I live in Nashville. I go to Bowling Green to do some work and stuff. And then we go to the race track. The church. Yes. Yes. I did the tour of that too. That's awesome. Highly suggest the Derby. No. Yeah. Yeah. They were explaining all that. I think the year, the year that I did the tour, the year before they had set the record they had like a hundred and fifty five thousand at, you know, church all downs where they, you know, for the, for the Derby and they have the, the normal grandstands. And then there's inside where you're like the infill. Yeah. That's a whole spectacle. Oh. Yeah. That would be neat. That's dangerous right there. Yeah.
Have you done that? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. That's where all the locals go and. Oh, in the middle section. Yeah. Yeah. Love it. Yeah. Well, that's where I learned about Secretariat and then at the tour for church all downs you get to do, they'll let you call a race where you're in the little booth and they give you the colors and everything and then you get the recording of you calling a horse race. Oh, that's super cool. And then all the bourbon. Yeah. There's a question here. Actually, this is the first time texture. First of all, they say it's time to dust off Carnie man. Oh, yeah. Carnie, Carnie, Carnie, Carnie, Dave has a song about the Carnival. All right. And then how much sugars are in your vodka? They're asking. How much sugars are in our vodka? I'm not really sure where they're going with that. So to be a vodka, it's got to meet certain qualifications. It's got to come off the still at 190 proof clear odorless and tasteless. So if you're referring to the just the spirit off the equipment, there's no sugars at all.
Okay. What is the base for? Is that a grain base or a wheat? Wheat base. They have some potato vodka's. Oh, yeah. That's the other potatoes for people who have. Any vodka can be made from any substrator raw material as long as it meets those qualifications. We talked to another friend who has a distillery and they were saying they turned their wine into vodka. Yeah, you can absolutely do that. So that's, I never knew that you could do that. That's pretty cool. And you could turn beer. I guess that's my boyfriend was saying he had a batch of beer that it wasn't very good and that they turned that into some kind of alcoholic beverage. They just like, if you boil it down, this person is a diabetic. That's why they're asking for a sugar. Well, yeah, back to that question. As far as our flavored vodka's, we're looking at around, I think it's like eight grams of sugar per liter, something like that. Per liter. Okay. Oh, that's true. You'll never get eight grams in one sitting. That's a lot.
That's sweet. Yeah. So maybe look for a different avenue. If you're a little concerned with that. Just the straight vodka though, that's not sweet. That's pretty clean. Yeah. Okay. I'm excited for you guys. I think this is great. And I know that the exposure over the last few years of what the brown people are doing with the with the spirits is fantastic. Yeah, that's what we're really just kind of looking for with our involvement with the fair is just the exposure and get the local community to know where we're at and come and enjoy the space and let us provide them with some great cocktails and wine and just a happy environment. So I know the space has doubled. So what is the new capacity for because you want to get there early, you don't want to get, you know, you don't want to be get to the species. Oh, all full in there. Sorry. Yeah. Last year was a pretty intimate space. I'd say that maybe you could fit 30 people there.
Okay. I'd say this year, you're easily 67 people. Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah. Perfect. Okay. If you want to spot, we'll be there tomorrow early. Yeah. We're going to be the first ones in there. Yeah. The ceremonial first walk in to the species. Amazing. Very good. All right, Aaron. Yeah. Well, I said meet you officially and we'll see you out at the bearer. Awesome. We look forward to having you. Thank you. Love it. Thanks.
