0:00We now return to the David Mollyshow. Hey, welcome back everybody. David Mollyshow continues and look who's here. Our friend Collie. Good morning. Good to be in the wild. How are you guys? You know, yeah. But everything's back to normal schedule now for a while, except for Sam. It's a family this week. I'm Friday. You guys use all your vacation time right around here, huh? Yeah. Not so much in the summer. Yeah, well, one thing that's funny we've talked about it is our kids are going to the same school, right? So high college. So then that kind of happens for us at the same time. So both of us went to Phoenix and dropped the kids off. Separate kids, separate families. Yeah. And so yeah, and then like yeah, there's just windows where you can't take it, you know. Sure. So yeah, I guess I don't know. I'm just trying to think I'm looking off. I'm looking like sometimes the answer is on the ceiling. If you look up, you'll find out what's up. My friends are on the Alaskan cruise right now.

1:01Oh, is it the same boat? The Norwegian cruise. It's the boat I went on. Okay. Princess one. Have they been enjoying it? I don't have and talked to them. I just knew they were taking off. A phone and a group of them going everybody's doing that Alaskan cruise. I don't know what the weather's like up there, but I thought I'm not in Hawaii. I was poor folks. This is second hurricane to Hawaii. Yeah, and it's been a lot. I think the Kauai had like no power for anybody there. And then 300 people were at shelters as well for a shelter. No, I would, I don't know. Shelters, plural, I guess I'll say. I'm like here in beautiful inland northwest. Oh, it's gorgeous right now. Yeah. Yes, after the afternoon was fantastic. Yeah. And just, I mean, I was funny when I came back from Phoenix on Monday night. It was raining. And I'm like, oh, I forgot it's almost fall. Like down in Phoenix, it's still over 100 degrees in sunny and blue sky. I'm like, oh, no, this is kind of a cozy transition weather. But yeah, 70s today and sunny. So let me ask you this because we don't want to get to footbally here.

2:03Okay. But does the, does today mean anything to you? It's opening night and the sea honks are playing. Yes. Oh, it does. It does not. Oh. Oh, it's kind of fun when I think like, oh, like I know like our neighbors who are good friends, they'll probably be watching the game. So like if we ended up going over there or something, but like am I scheduled to watch it at 520 tonight? No. And I mean, I think it's cool. Like we had big coverage this morning on the morning show. Yeah. We have Austin gets our sports director there talking about the game ahead and the season ahead. It's on our channel. Yeah. So I mean, that is huge viewership. The first of three. I believe they have two Sunday night games. Yeah. The season. Yeah. Yeah. I know. I think leads. I have a fantasy league, a pick them in a survivor league. So you are invested all the way. Wow. And tell everybody your world famous quote about fantasy football.

3:06Even if you win, you're still a loser. Yes. I disagree with that, but that was hilarious when you said, I got to use full credit for that. Well, it's very funny. And there's a trend now too, where if you lose the fantasy, your fantasy football league, you have to like do a dare, fire league. Isn't that how Sam ended up, isn't that how his friend ended up with the reversal of fortune something or other, but like the door might have been they had to do the Costco challenge where you eat every food that they have at the food court grows. And it was like in the middle of winter and his friend did it, but then lost it all over the reversal of fortune out on the ice and stayed there all winter. I think Rose. I thought it was something I think you're right. Yeah, my son's fantasy league last year, the boy who lost had to do the milk mile where you took a gallon of milk and then run a mile. Oh, God.

4:06Yeah. Did that end up in a reversal? Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Rose. So either you win. Right. Yeah. And your lose are still. And you lose and you lose. Yeah. So when Sam took his son down to school, they went golfing, they went to all these things. What are you and your daughter doing there? We had so much fun. Oh, good. It was a great time because we're just chatty. Like we're both women who have millions of things to say. But it was so funny because she got like she shopped for everything like all decor and everything in her room. So we shopped for two days. Oh, yes. With meals and between. Good deal for her. Yeah. Well, she paid for everything. Oh. Water food. Yeah. Wow. And she's a saver. And so like last year, it took two days, but it would be like she's like contemplating on this $5 frame at Walmart. And I'm like, okay, we're not doing that. Like we're making big purchases. We're going.

5:06So like we're at Home Depot and there's a rug and it's $200. And I'm like, you like it? Let's go. We're doing it. I just like picked it up, put it on my shoulder and just like started walking. And she's like, all right. Well, here's my debit card. I can't watch. I'm like, good for her. Boy, you don't know, my girls. So does she decorate each time she goes? Well, last year, I guess like she shared a room with somebody. So they shared a lot of stuff this year. She bought like new stuff. And I don't know if you keep that, right? Yeah. And that's the thing. I'm like, this is good stuff to purchase. It's like, you know, like, yeah, you're a little adult now and you can afford. You worked all summer. Like this, you can afford this rug. Where did she work this summer? Where did she work? Oh, she works at twigs. Oh, it twigs. Oh, I didn't realize that. No, it's not a twig. Yep. And I say, I'm like, you live and eat for free at my house. So, yeah, save your money. Save your money. And then when you go to Phoenix, that's on you. Yeah.

6:06But like I said, we went to some good eateries and I bought dinner and stuff like that. But we had a conversation on going down because gas. I'm like, this is your car. You decided to drive it here. You know? So anyway, we ended up splitting that 50, 50. I'm like, it's fine. I guess. See, and the difference with my mom is that she tries to pay for every single thing. And I'm like, mom, no, I can get, nope, I have, Bobby, I have it. I have it. And she will argue with me that she has to pay for everything. And I have to like draw the line and say, no, I'm treating. Yeah. I don't ever remember her ever saying the words. You wanted it. You had to buy it. Oh my gosh. That's so funny. I can't tell how, I mean, if she could do that, that is awesome. But I, I feel like I always tell my kids they always want something or like this is their whole life. Like kids always want something. Want, want, want. And then when you say, okay, if you really want it, like you should pay for it. Suddenly they don't want it. Right.

7:06Right. Right. Suddenly they're like, you know, less glamorous. I learned that it's silverwood. You put $40 on their little bracelet. They come back with $38 left. They want the change. If I was paying, I'm not saying it's the right thing to do. And she knows that. She knows that. She, she just, she can't stand. She always feels like she should pay for everything. Yeah. She will let me treat her once in a while. Of course she will. But she, her instinct is always like, you don't need to learn a lesson here. I'm just paying. Yeah. Well, and as an adult, like I think it's such a treat to be able to pay for my parents. Like, and that's what you want to do for your mom. Like, look what you did for me my whole life. Like what an honor to be able to buy you dinner or take you out. So it's, we've probably talked about it here. Like it's, it's, you know, you got to teach your kids how to take care of their money and manage their money. But then it's also like a gift to be able to do it because you want to. And you have to be able to receive it as well. Yeah. This is what this person wants to give to me and treat me and I will say yes.

8:06I will accept. Yes. Well, I think I was always pretty good with my money. So I think that because I was responsible and she always took care of us. And I just kind of watched. Sure. But, but I do know that when you have a kid who's taking and taking and taking, then it's like, okay, we're done. Yeah. And then expectation. Like, they have an expectation that you're going to pay for it. And it's like, no, that's different than I'm paying for it. And you're thankful because you know, I don't have to. Yeah. So anyway, we would shop for two days. I earned her curtains. She has like this bedskirt. I was like under there pinning her bedskirt to her bed. And I'm like, okay, when I drop off her brother, it's going to take 30 minutes. And he's going to wonder why we were even there that long. We're going to like have to convince him like, no, like you should buy some sheets. Like that mattress is used every year by a different person. You might want to protect her. Yeah. And what's his story for next year? He's only a junior right now.

9:06But is he does he does he have an idea of like what where he may end up? No, he is thinking about college though. And then this year he said, my goal is to get a 4.0. And we were like so proud. We're like, oh my gosh, Kiko has a goal. Like he hasn't even. He hasn't done it. He just said that's his goal. And we were so proud that he has a goal. Did he verbalize it? Yes. So now did they pay for their own college or do you guys take care of that? So we saved some money for them that they got. And then my daughter is saving that. Like she invested it back in and then we're cash rolling her through college. But she has a contract sign like we have a contract that says once she has a job for six months, she's going to start making payments back to us. So rather than student loans. Yeah, so we're loaning it. We're loaning it. That's genius. Yeah. As why pay the interest like why? And if you can, if you can, like I why not?

10:07Yeah. Because yeah, that's the keeps it all in the family. And if something God forbid happens and she is behind, you know, you can say, okay. And you treat schools so much differently if you think it's your money. If you have an idea of how much it costs and what you're paying or what you're going to end up paying back. So. So how does it work at at GCU? Do they have, is there like a food plan or are they on their own for all meals or how does that? They have a food plan. I think it's required at least your freshman year. It's more expensive. And then like once you're like in an quote unquote, an apartment on campus, you have a kitchen. Okay. Oh, that's good. So they can ended that she's in an apartment this year. Yeah. And they're basically glorified dorms. Like they're still the school owns. Mm-hmm. You have to move out in the summer. Like it's, you know, unless you're staying for the summer. Um, and but yeah, they're big.

11:07It's like a four bedroom, two bathroom, and then like a little common area. Do you know I found out about it, Contagga, which is so cool. I was thinking about kids, students who are eating and all of that. So if you have an event at Contagga and you know, the food is always left over because we're having our event there. And so we said what will happen to the food and they said, well, we have a program. People can sign up. And at nine o'clock or nine thirty on the night of the program. Anybody who is signed up can come bring a container and take food from our event and take it back to their daughter to their. Yeah. So it can be anybody who it doesn't even have to be students, but a lot of older students, a lot of people with food and securities. And then it could be anybody really in the community, but they know. And I love that because you don't want to waste that food. And now somebody is going to use it. They started it last year. I can't remember what the program is called, but I think all the catering services should you do in that. That's amazing. It's smart. And if you're a hungry student and it's nine o'clock on Saturday night, you're like, let's get our container.

12:07So when I go to your event, then if I go for seconds, I'm taking food from the kids. Yeah, the kids. Yeah, Dave. When is that? You talked about that here October 10th. Nice. Yeah, it'll be good, but I just love this is the first time a lot of times we'll pack it up. But then, you know, it's craziness and stuff. This is just perfect. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but it's the students. I don't know if any other universities do that, but it's so smart. Yeah, free food. And speaking of we talked about that on the show. Did you guys talk about the free stuff? Yeah. It used to be free. That's not anymore. And Molly ordered a breakfast this morning. Yeah. And it was like an Uber eats thing. Okay. And then what was it? There was the regular charge. Yeah. Then there's the delivery fee. Yeah. The handling fee. Yeah. Then the tip. Yeah. I mean, I would rather just not know. Like just tell me that I'm praying. This is the price of the food. Yeah. Maybe some people like a breakdown, but I don't want to break down. Well, I'll be like, why am I paying for a handler's fee when I'm paying for?

13:09Yeah. The delivery fee and how is that? And then the tip goes a percentage of all that together. It's not like just the food is, okay, I'm tipping on the food. Well, no, you're tipping on all the fees that have already rolled in. So it keeps rolling. Right. I thought etiquette was you pay on the cost like before tax, but. Well, probably should, but I mean, but when you see the bottom line, that's what everybody looks at. Okay. Well, that's the number. Yeah. That's what I've always done. Now I have to train myself to be like, no, it's actually supposed to be before tax. I don't know what etiquette is. If you have 15 fees, are you paying tax on the fee? No, you're not paying tip on that. Well, they're calculating it that way. And I can't get to my receipt yet because I was going to give you an actual thing. But yeah, the way they calculated it, it was after all these things. Now do you want to do 10, 12, 15, 18% or whatever? And then they give you different grades of who, how great you are. You're either okay. Great. You get great in.

14:09You're the best. Okay. I'm the best. I just gave you business. How do you get graded low? And then the guy showed up in his pajamas. It was awesome. He probably rolled out of bed. He's like, oh man, ding. He goes over to Rosie. He walks over here. He's like, how's it going? And then he makes like 10 bucks. Wow. Yeah. Do those guys, but those guys get hourly pages too? No. I don't know how that works. So with Uber Eats, I believe. And we've gone back and forth about this. I think when you first start with Uber Eats, all you're making is your tips. Like that's it. And then once you get to a certain place, then you get. Okay. You start like those service charges start to go to you. Or something. There has to be something more in it. Otherwise, if you're just relying on tips. Right. When's the last time you did Uber Eats? I don't do. Never. I have a thing with, well, one, you guys know, spending money. Yes. I like hot hot food. Yeah. This was delivered hot. Yeah. I will say it was. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No.

15:09I'm usually not that hungry to like pay for because if I'm, well, I'll say like this. If I'm hungry, I need to eat now. So like, I don't have the wherewithal to be like, I'm going to order Udru Uber Eats. And then wait for it to get here and then pay extra for it to get here. I'm like, I just bring leftovers for my house. See, usually I do that. I use a pretty good. Yeah, I do. all these delicious things in day-by-night share and we have all of that stuff like that. Today, I didn't have any of that. Yeah. And somebody we were talking about stuff and then all of a sudden, I said, I want to have Uber Eats now. See, that's kind of fun though. We entertained ourselves. We did a segment by the time the segment was over at the food museum. Yeah, see, that's kind of awesome. That sounds wonderful. It's not like you can leave before. Oh, right. So you could be so hungry. Yeah. Okay, that's a great idea. It's got us through. Usually we plan better, but today we didn't so. Yeah. Now, back to the football. The game doesn't affect you guys at all, but obviously affect Sean and Leslie tonight, right? So they'll do on it. Will they be before and after? Is that how that works? There's a three o'clock newscast and then a prime time, which comes after the

16:13game. Okay. And there's a four, five and six on our streaming platform. So you can watch it. Are they on that too? I, well, it's between them and then Corey Howard's the other anchor. And then yeah, so it'd be between probably those three on who's doing what shows. I know Corey usually does the four. So yeah, so we still have you covered when it comes to. Yeah, you do. Oh, yes, everywhere you look, but the people that really care who don't care about football care passionately about jeopardy and will a fortune. Yeah. Oh, what do you do about that? Where does jeopardy will a fortune go after our prime time newscast? So they're going to be staying up late. Like it's scheduled for nine, but if the game goes longer, it's going to start even later. But when we used to have the phones in the newsroom, like, oh, my God, like, they were ringing, they'd be ringing off the hook. Yes, where's jeopardy and where's will a fortune? So I said six times on the show this morning, like telling people when it was going to air, saying that it is going

17:16to air in full, it just might air later than nine PM. Yeah. And that was such a big problem. Yeah, we've had fans, yeah, jeopardy and we'll we'll that's what they call it. We'll we'll fans. Yeah. Like so mad when we have gone sagging games on the air. Oh, really? Give me my jeopardy will a fortune. And I think it's good if we can do it on the same day. Sometimes I think they have to hold it for the next day or something along those lines. I think they're wack. Right? I think there's been times where it's like we don't get to air both every day. Yeah, it's hard. Or on that day. Start getting into sports programming. Yeah. There is that the GCU apartments are so big. They believe that they want an award for best on campus apartments. Oh, they seem nice. They seem like extra nice. What did you see when you were there? I lived like my daughter's room. I shared with one other person and then it attached to a hallway where you went down to a bathroom that you shared with

18:1730 other people. Oh boy. You know, so like, but this is a very common trend. Like I think now campuses are lots of schools have like sweets and your own bathroom. Maybe like a sink in there. That's way more common now than just like she have a bathroom in her. She yeah, she and a it's four bedroom two baths. So she and another girl share one bathroom and then the other two roommates sharing each person gets their own bedroom. Yeah. Oh, that's good. Yeah. So did you stay there with her? That was my idea. And she's like, Mom, no. And I'm like, what? It's fine. I'm at this time. I'm paying for this apartment. Yeah. Like yes, I am. But then we ended up not and in retrospect, I'm like, that's actually a great idea. That would have been not fun. Just staying on the hotel somewhere. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that was much more pleasure. And you still reference it as Phoenix. That's what I do. Even though it's technically Glendale, right? It's right next to Glendale, but I think the mailing address is Phoenix. Oh, okay. I'm pretty

19:21sure the mailing address is Phoenix. But yeah, it looks it's like right there. Yeah. So all the people that I've known in all of Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, like all to me, that, well, it's Phoenix. But no, it's, you know, it's Gilbert. And technically all of those places are bigger than Spokane. Gilbert, Arizona is bigger than Spokane. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Gilbert is at Mesa, Tempe. I think there's seven, what do you call them? Many cities outside of Phoenix that are not technically Phoenix, but they are all bigger than Spokane by themselves. Yes. Yeah, it's crazy. And I think I don't know if it's because it's flat, but it doesn't seem overwhelming and big to me. Because I'm like, we stay in Scottsdale, but I can see like driving down the road. I can see Sky Harbor Airport. I can see like downtown Phoenix. And like, so to me, it doesn't seem massive, because I'm like, at all times I can see where I'm going, if that makes sense. And the city is laid out fantastic. And their freeway system is maybe the best in America. That's a full statement.

20:26It is, but I believe it's true. We stayed in Scottsdale and we were driving to your her campus. And like, there were no problems. Yeah. I mean, I feel like they have big wide roads. Don't they? Big beautiful ride. Why? Seattle, one of the worst. I think it's the worst. I would see how our Denver is not very good either. No. Portland is very confusing to me. I always get lost going through Portland, but Seattle to me growing up in LA and I know it's got it on the traffic. There's eight ways to get over the canyon. There's 10 ways to get to the beach. Like in Seattle, there's one way to get one place because of the water that you're just, you can't help it. Yeah. You're just kind of, that's kind of what you're stuck with. Because that was going to be my question. Is it worse than LA? It's yeah. I don't think there's a lot of people, but I always, I know having choices now with apps and stuff. For us, we had to just think, okay, let's go with Beverly Glenn today or let's do Mulholland today or whatever. But you could pick a canyon and then you could also do, there's two different

21:31freeways. So for a five, you got the 101, you got five canyon four, canyon's going over so you could pick a different way to get some place. But we didn't, you didn't know until you got there. So it's like, damn it, we should have taken the other canyon, whatever. But now with apps, you could totally know what's free. Very soon, instead of maple, take the North South freeway. That's right. Very soon. Just around the corner. Yeah. Just around the corner. We were on the, what they call the North South corridor. Yes. Oh, it's called the North spoke North Spokane corridor. Yes. It's what it's officially called. But then North South freeway is where everybody calls us. Yeah. We drove by there the other day. They've made progress. Oh, I know it's it is it is finally happening going out to the ballpark, you know, the backway there and it wait. Yeah. We've been, uh, wait, how did you get on? Where'd you get on? No, we didn't get on. We just drove past and so they have the right near the college is like the thing. And then you could see they're starting to effort over on this site. It's my husband's little world because we live up North kind of where it starts. And so he gets on it. And for years, he could only go to

22:36Francis because that's where it is fast. But now he can go to Wellesley. That's where it is. That is progress. He does work at SEC. So eventually, perfect. One day, one day, we're still here. On this earth, he will make it to SEC on the North South freeway. And SEC will probably have a tone exit. It'll be an exit, right? Well, the thing goes right near it. Yeah, parking lot. Yeah, it goes. And it's all or Nate, I was saying, why are they taking so much time? This is going to be hidden underneath an overpass. Why is it all fancy? Let's get a move on. I've been meaning to ask this and I should know this as a reporter because I've been a rich entry for the last year where it's like it's got design under it. Yeah. But then it looks hand painted. Yes, looks like someone's painting. That's what I'm saying. Somebody's putting a lot of detail into that. So I honestly, I should go pitch that this morning. I'm not joking. Like, are you sure? Is it being hand painted?

23:37You should ask. Yeah. And if so, why don't you put your paintbrush down and keep building? That's terrible. I feel like a lot of people are wonder that. It's so ornate. It's not even related. I'm sure it's not even like Apple torches. But the average person driving by goes, why does this bridge just end right here? But there's paint jobs happening. And it's progress. I mean, it has to end somewhere to continue. I mean, it's the building it in stretches. Natasha, who works on it, she's one of the engineers who works on it. She's what and she says, it's really you guys. Okay. But Natasha, here is out. Who's painting and doing all the fancy stuff that's going to be under the overpass? Why? What is that? Well, and then I would add, if you're going to do that, can't that be done later? I mean, maybe the artists are available now, but the other engineer people doing stuff for not.

24:41I don't know. Part of our world. I love. This is what I love. Like, we're just we just ask the questions. Yeah. And then there's actual people who know how to build a bridge. We're like, come on. Get with it, bridge builders, engineers. Why can't we fly faster? Yeah. Come on. What's wrong with the air? Why can't we just go? That is the thing. We when and not not just with this topic, but any top. Yeah. We throw something out and there is somebody that knows and they will text in. We just had a guy who's having dinner in Ireland and he's listening to the show. What? Yeah. Your job is changed. Well, all of our jobs has changed so much with technology. But like, that's crazy to think about like 20 years ago. You guys just had colors. Yeah. Spiratically throughout your shows. But now you wouldn't you wouldn't want to see it though. Like if you're on, you wouldn't want it would be very distracting. Oh, okay. So you guys read. We can because we're not doing real news. So we, but if you were just

25:42getting comments from from viewers like why are we glued at it or whatever, then you'd be you'd be like, and the what do you mean? Why am I wearing blue? Anyway, the constellation. They go to be hard. No, but that's cool though. Like you guys get to have like a constant conversation with your viewers or listeners or viewers and listeners. Yeah. Yeah. The guy in Ireland was listening on the non-stop local app to worldwide. Yeah. Amazing. We're all aware of what if you can you still look on the map or is that I can't we can see where people are listening. Like all over the world. Does it tell you what they're doing? Like if it's on the app or on YouTube. If for this, it would be people listening on the app. If anybody else is out of the country right now, please text in or if anybody's in Hawaii, let us know how you're doing. Yeah. But really? Yeah. We and we couldn't eat at our desk. That was when the building was brand new. It's like when you get new carpet and like your mom doesn't let you walk inside with any kind of shoes or eat

28:52anywhere. It's like when I vacuum and I'm like, you're not allowed to walk around and eat. Yeah, it was like that. But now we can eat and bring pigs in. I think I think ask one of our bosses. I know you brought dogs in. Yeah. Dogs come in all the time. Yes. All right. Well, and we were just eating a big giant breakfast in here a while ago. So pancake. The pig is here. You guys. Oh, it's very exciting. All right. And then we're going to find out how big the pig is and all the logistics. Yeah. This is going to be quite the spectacle. Yes, it is.
