It wasn't a blowout.
The King's battled.
The Tanking Crowd is still upset.
Let's discuss the value of De Marta Rosen on a 19-win team.

Very good stuff.
Sacramento Kings, of course, fell tonight to the Orlando Magic 1-21-1-17.
Tonight's episode, we're going to touch on a couple of things.
We'll finish with six quick dots, which we always do.
There's a couple of tasty tidbits in there about some weird things that happened during
this game, specifically.
Second block, we're going to talk about earning time for next season.
Who on this team is actually earning a rotational spot for next season with their play that
we're watching in the final 25 games of the season, but before we get to that, I want
to get into this Demar to Rosen thing because Demar to Rosen had another spectacular game
tonight.
And I got to be honest, Demar has taken a little bit of a step back here offensively in
the last, I don't know, since it's all a star break, he pops up and has a big game every
once in a while.
Sometimes it's two games in a row, but for the most part, he's been pretty tame.
He's been pretty good about passing the ball, about sharing the rock, and we're not seeing
like 20 shot attempt games and stuff like that.
We're not seeing complete takeovers by Demar to Rosen, but as I was watching the game,
and the Kings are battling the Orlando Magic from start to finish.
They were down a little bit early.
Demar to Rosen came out in the second quarter, just came out on fire scores, like 17 points
in the second quarter to finish the first half with 21 points.
And I'm watching this competitive basketball game.
It's back and forth.
It's some nice three-pointers, some physicality, like lots of good things are happening.
And I'm sitting back wondering, would I rather watch this type of game where maybe they
win, maybe they don't, but Demar to Rosen is a big part of what's happening on the court.
Or what I watch, rather watch what happened the last time this Sacramento Kings played,
was they got absolutely destroyed by like 44 points by a Charlotte Hornets team, just
two nights ago.
And I gotta be honest with you, I don't think that there is a middle ground.
You're going to have Demar to Rosen have a good game, and the Kings are going to be competitive.
Or he's not going to have a good game, and you're going to get your butt kicked.
And I get so many people out there, they want this Kings team to lose.
They want a better draft pick.
They want to ensure that all of this losing means something.
That it means AJ DeBonso, or it means Darren Peterson, or Cameron Booser, or Darius Acuff,
or Kingston Fleming, or Caleb Wilson, it has to mean something, right?
You can't go through a season where you're 19 and now 55 and not have it mean something.
And so I get it, but I also look at this and realize it, there's eight games left in
the season, and some of the fans out there can just shut it off and not watch.
But if you actually want to watch a game and enjoy a game, I don't think you want to watch
a 40-something point blowout, a non-competitive game where one team throws their jersey
on the floor and the other doesn't.
And I just at this point, with all of the injuries, it continued to stack up.
I do think that the only way that the Kings can be even remotely competitive from one
night to the next is if Demar to Rosen's out there scoring, I'm not saying 33 points
every night.
But if he's scoring 20 to 25, maybe 30 here and there.
And people can fault me at that, but I don't think Demar to Rosen's taking minutes away
from anybody at this point.
Most nights, the Kings are going into a night with eight players on the roster.
So there are minutes here for the players that are healthy.
And again, tonight Killian Hayes was able to play, but then he heard his finger and he's
out.
Nick Clifford got hurt, he's going to miss a week.
We'll see when he comes back.
I do think that there's always going to come that moment where you're hoping that someone
will take over more for Demar to Rosen and start doing some of the things that Demar
to Rosen does.
But no one on this King's team has that skill set, especially right now.
And so I'm caught in this quandary because it becomes like Demar or bust.
Demar or complete blowout.
And look, Demar to Rosen has been on the court when there was blowouts.
That's for sure.
But at the same time, the focal point of the game is not Demar to Rosen on most nights
now.
He's not getting the ball, you know, 18 to 20 times a night and then, you know, taking
15 to 20 shots and then getting to the free throw line eight or nine times.
That's just not something that's happening on a nightly basis.
And tonight's that line, he was absolutely phenomenal.
I mean, we're talking about a 36 year old.
He continues to move up the NBA's all time scoring list, like he's a future Hall of
Famer.
But when a player goes out and scores 33 points, dishes out 11 assists and has six rebounds.
I'm not going to fault him.
And I get it.
Some fans like literally going at me on social media because I put out the Demar to Rosen
has this many points.
And like people just pulling their hair out, screaming, why, why is Demar to Rosen scoring?
And to be honest with you, he's scoring to make the game at least like palatable at all
watchable.
Like who wants to watch a 40 point blowout?
I certainly don't.
And I get paid to do it.
So I'm kind of caught here in this quandary about what exactly Demar to Rosen means.
And I'm not saying that Demar to Rosen needs to be back next season.
I don't know if you will be or not his contract, you know, again, is 25 million, a little
over 25 million next year, but only 10 millions guaranteed.
The Kings can just wave him and only pay him 10 million.
They could also trade him for another 20 to 25 million or 30 million dollar player.
And that team could do whatever they want with him, whether it's wave him and save a bunch
of money or keep him on the roster.
Like there's a lot that can happen between now and next season.
And I'm not sure whether Demar to Rosen will be here or not.
But I will tell you that he's been an absolute pro through this entire thing.
He's been a guy that the other players rely on in crunch time because they don't know
how to do crunch time.
And I know everyone's like, well, they need to learn.
Okay.
How is Max Ray?
No supposed to learn how to be in crunch time when the Kings don't have a pick and roll
bar pick and roll guard on the court to feed him for his little baby jump hook.
He can't.
And Dylan Cardwell is not going to be a go to score in crunch time at any point in his
career.
Sorry, Dylan.
I love you.
It's not going to happen.
So what exactly are you looking for?
Is it you want to see more Malik Bunk?
You want to see more Devon Carter?
Maybe that's it.
More Dayquan Plowden.
You know, all of these things are part of what's happening.
But I will tell you that Demar to Rosen is the only player on this roster that number one
draws a top tier defender and number two on occasion draws a double team.
And if he's rolling, the floor tilts his way and it makes life easier for everybody else
on the court.
So I get it.
You don't want him taking all the shots, you know, seeing Max Ray no take nine shots tonight.
I got to be honest, has nothing to do with Demar to Rosen.
He's actually, you know, he led the team with 11 assists and has everything to do with
the fact that killing and haze got hurt and they couldn't run a bunch of pick and rolls
because he didn't have the bodies to do it.
Devon Carter doesn't know how to run a pick and roll.
That's why they didn't run a bunch of pick and rolls and why a guy like Max Ray no didn't
blow up.
But I still, I'm caught with this, this quandary because I was not in the pro Demar to Rosen
camp when they signed him.
I was not in the pro Demar to Rosen camp last season when I watched the team go from 48
to 46 down to 40 wins.
I thought his style of play doesn't mesh.
It's not that I don't respect him as a human or as a player.
I respect him greatly both in both ways.
But I thought he was a square peg for round hole.
At this point, this team is just hanging on for dear life trying not to get just annihilated
from one night to the next.
And to me, the only way to not get annihilated is to actually have Demar to Rosen be a big
part of what's going on.
So we're going to step aside.
When we come back, we're going to talk about who's actually, you know, Demar to Rosen,
we don't know what's going to happen with him, but who on this roster is taking advantage
of the opportunity that has been presented and may have turned themselves into a player
for this team next year.
We'll be right back.
The playoff push is heating up and tournament hoops are here and there's no better way to
get in on the action than price picks where it always feels good to be right.
Every bucket, every dime, every moment means more when you're playing on price picks.
This is the number one daily fantasy picks app and it's incredibly simple to play.
The best part about price picks, you just pick more or less on two to six player stat
projections, more than 0.5 on Keegan Murray dunks or less than 12 shot attempts for Keegan
Murray.
Those are two things that I have actually used on price picks.
We can bet basketball, baseball, hockey and more all in one and, you know, the early payout
feature is incredible.
I actually had a game this year where I had three young quarterbacks, whether they would score
a rushing touchdown, two of them got in the first like five minutes and I'm going to take
in the early payout right now and it worked out.
So it's a fun way to stay locked in every game, especially this time of year when every
play matters.
Download the price picks app today and use code locked on NBA to get $50 in lineups
after you play your first $5 lineup.
That code is locked on NBA to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup price

All right, let's talk about who might be a keeper for next season because I do think that
this Sacramento Kings have actually done some good work this year in finding players.
You know, when you walk into a season and, you know, you're starting center and you're
starting power forward, never play a single game together and Keegan Murray and Demandas
Sabonis.
One of them plays 19 games, one of them plays 23, but they never play a single game
together.
It opens a door for, you know, other players to step through.
And I think that this season in particular, there's been a lot of stepping through.
There's been a lot of players like who develop into something that maybe will translate into
what comes next for the Sacramento Kings.
Now I don't think we have any idea if, you know, like some of the players that are on
the rosters right now, whether again, it's Demandas Sabonis or Zach Levine or the Marta
Rosen, Malik Monk, whether these guys will be back next season, we don't know.
The Kings are going to be active, they're going to try to reboot this thing because everything
is gone sideways.
When you're 19 and 55, everything has gone sideways.
But I do want to start with three players that I do believe are set for rotational spots
on this team next season.
And that is the three rookies.
Maxime Reino, Nick Clifford and Dylan Cardwell have all become a part of what's happening
here in Sacramento.
And for me, the backup center spot or starting center spot is taking care of whether
your Demandas Sabonis is back or not, I have no idea.
But if he's not back, Max Reino is your starter, Dylan Cardwell is your first guy off the
bench.
If Demandas Sabonis is back, Max Reino is your second team guy and Nick Clifford, I mean,
I mean, Dylan Cardwell is going to play as well.
And you're going to have to figure out how to have all three of those guys on the court
at different times during the game.
And it's going to get a little crowded for at the same time, Max and Domas, Domas and
Dylan, Dylan and Max.
We get to see different combinations of the same player at different combos at the
three, at the four and the five.
So I think that those guys are all in for rotational spots next year.
The other one is Nick Clifford.
I think Nick Clifford has done enough to show that he's versatile enough as a score, that
he's versatile enough as a rebounder, as a defender.
The Kings love his defensive intensity.
They love the fact that he plays defense with his chest.
He's got good size for a shooting guard.
He can play the three and the four.
He can guard the one, the two and the three.
I think that there's a lot to like about what we've seen from him.
And I'm not saying that he's going to play 30 minutes next season.
I don't know.
But I do think that he's going to be part of the rotation.
It could be anywhere from, you know, the starting shooting guard to the ninth man on the bench.
But I do think Nick Clifford has done enough.
Now here's where it starts to get a little bit more complicated.
Because after that, I do think the precious of Chua has, number one, played himself into
a major role for the Kings next year.
I could see a world in which he was a starting power forward for this team playing alongside
Keegan Murray and Demana Sabones.
I could see a point where, you know, maybe the Kings don't bring back Delmos because they
think that they've got the four and the five covered between precious and Max and Dylan
Cardwell.
I could also see a way in which precious to Chua is just flat out outplayed his contract
so badly and and made so much money that the Kings don't have a way to reassign it.
Like they can use part of the middle level exception.
They could use a full biannual exception at around a two year $10 million deal.
The middle level, they, you know, maybe they give him a trade liles like two years 16 million
dollar deal.
So there are ways which they can functionally try to keep him in the family.
But he's also auditioning for 30 teams right now.
And I think the way the precious to Chua steps on the court brings physicality shoots
the three ball can defend the three four five.
He's even defended guards this year.
I just think that he's, you know, he's shown that he's just way too valuable.
And so I do think that there's a good chance that he'll be back if he wants to be.
He said he wants to be.
I asked him that question last week.
We played the tape.
He says he wants to be back, but saying you want to be back and then when the money starts
rolling in from other teams, it might be a little bit different.
So he's a guy that I do think that puts a fourth guy that, you know, is coming to this
team new, whether it's rookies or a 26 year old like precious that I do think will be part
of the rotation next year specifically precious.
If he wants to be the last one, again, I, I could dive into Killian Hayes here is Killian
Hayes done enough for the Kings to have him as a third point guard, maybe I could get
to Devon Carter has he done enough to change people's minds and Sacramento, maybe.
But the guy that I really do think is is earning his way into a real contract as soon as
the Kings can give him a real contract is day quamplum.
And you know, Doug Christie following the game tonight, he said that, you know, he told
day quamplum like you belong here and not only that, but you need to believe that you belong
here.
And I think that cloud has been able to successfully absorb that and become a very, very good player.
And I don't know if it's going to equate to like anything more than a league minimum
deal or two year league minimum deal.
But I do think that in today's NBA, six foot five, six foot six guys that can play the
two and the three, these wings, these combo wings that we see, like every other player
on the Oklahoma City Thunder is exactly this.
I think day quamplum can be one of those guys.
I think he can be a Keanu Ellis type player.
And to be honest with you, he's actually showing up really big down the stretch here.
And he's showing more and more and more and even more than I think we would have been
able to see from Keanu Ellis Keanu Ellis better three point shooter, no question.
But in order to shoot threes at the NBA level, somebody has to draw on kick and this team
doesn't have that.
And so for me, watching, you know, day quamplum go out tonight and score another career
high, 23 points on six of 10 from three quality defender.
He needs to do a little bit more of the other stuff, the steals, the rebounds he assists.
But I really like what I'm seeing.
And the crazy thing is is we've got to see day quamplum for 24 games now.
And you know, he's long, he's athletic, all that stuff.
He's got his three point percentage up to 33.6 after tonight's game.
And the crazy thing too, after tonight's game, day quamplum is out now averaging 10.3 points
per game on the season.
So over 25 games, I think he's showing that he's more of a four a player.
He's he's actually an NBA player where he is on as far as a depth chart, whether he's
your 12th man, whether he's your ninth man, whether he's your 14th man, I'm not sure.
But I do think he's an NBA player and I think that the king's struck gold with him and
hopefully they're able to retain him this summer.
So it's not all negative, you know, especially when you're 19 and 55, we could just be negative
all the time.
But I think there are positive things that are happening within the negativity.
And that's what will continue to look at here as we creane towards the end of the season
with only eight games left.
All right, we're going to step aside.
When we come back, we've got some, some things to talk about in six.
Think thoughts.
The tournament is here.

That's a better way to money.
Let's get started at nm.com, the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee,
Wisconsin.
Alright, let's dive into six quick thoughts.
I don't know what to say.
At least it wasn't a blowout.
That's how I started today.
Until they had six quick thoughts, this Sacramento Kings did battle the Orlando Magic in Orlando.
They were actually really like right in the game and then they got hit with a 12-0 fourth
quarter run and it's just really tough to recover from a 12-0 run.
I will tell you the only reason they did almost make it a game and they fought back and they
got right back in it is because I think this is the fourth time this season.
Gatequamplowed and caught fire from three.
Just kept hitting threes and drawing them back into the game.
He's done this multiple times in victories and now we're starting to see him be able to
do it in games like this.
That is why you play the games.
That is why you were developing players is so they get opportunities like this to show
you whether they have that gene that can you do it when the lights are on and the bright
lights on in Orlando and I thought Gatequamplowed was spectacular.
The Kings do lose 121 to 117.
Let's get to six quick thoughts, which is number one.
He kept it close.
DeMar de Rosen has taken a step back lately.
He's not scoring nearly as much as he had in the past.
He did that with the 39-point game and the 41-point game.
But then again, the last five games, he's been averaging roughly around 14.8, 15 points
per game.
He's taken a step back, but tonight, he just saw an opening in the second quarter and
he said, hey, I'm not going to let this end get out of control and be a blowout.
He goes for 17 of his 33 points in that 12-minute stretch leading up to half time.
Then he stuffs the statute.
11 assists, six boards.
He was just excellent.
He was.
Like, major appreciation, my appreciation for DeMar de Rosen grows with each and every
game.
All right, let's get to number two.
You can't have too many dayquans or dequans or however you want to pronounce it.
The Kings now have Dequamplowed, but they also sign dayquan jeffries or dequan jeffries.
I'm not sure how he's pronouncing it now.
The first time he was in Sacramento, it was Dequan.
But everyone seems to be calling him Dequan now.
The Kings actually had hit the NBA up for a hardship roster spot where they can sign
a 10-day player.
And that's what they did here.
They gave Dequan jeffries or dequan jeffries a 10-day contract.
He played seven minutes.
Look, he's 28 years old.
To be honest with you, he's a very good defender.
He's super long.
He's.
They're talking about him on the broadcast like he's this offensive genius, which again,
he's been really good at the G-League level this year.
He's averaging, I think, 23 and a half points.
And he's shooting almost eight threes a game and hitting something like crazy, 44 percent
or something.
He's been excellent.
But we've also seen these numbers before, like from other players who have made it up
from the G-League and they have a difficult time translating that.
I don't know that Dequan jeffries is going to get a huge opportunity here in Sacramento
to play out the final eight games because the Stockton Kings are also in the playoffs.
He's been their best player here in the second half of the season.
But he did, again, he played seven minutes.
He scored two points, I think.
And then the other Dequan had a career, had 23 points.
Again, six of 10 from three.
He just keeps proving that he's a dude and good for Dequan plodden.
Let's get to number three, which is flashy.
Leak Monk, he only plays one way in his full tilt.
He's all over the place.
And I think it's something that we've seen from him forever.
But you know, you just never, it never gets old tonight.
He did pick up two quick fouls, again, playing a little out of control and a little crazy,
just on the defensive end.
But he bounced back.
He knocked down three of nine from three.
He scored 13 points at five assists, two rebounds, solid game from Leak Monk.
But I was a little disappointed that he didn't get in the two-man game with Max Reino and
start setting him up.
So it's a tough, tough sledding night for Max just because he didn't really have that
style of downhill pick and roll type assist guy with him.
I think, you know, again, you can look at what DeMarthe Rosen did, but a lot of his stuff
was kickouts to the perimeter for open threes and guys hit shots tonight, which is why
you had 11 assists.
Let's get to number four, which is making the most of it.
Devin Carter picked up another start and he continues to show that he belongs in the
league.
Again, I think he's a player who is definitely auditioning for all 30 teams right now.
He is under contract for next season with the Kings at roughly six million bucks.
It's part of his rookie scale deal, but the Kings have until right around Halloween to
make a decision on whether they're going to pick up the fourth year option.
I'm not sure if they are not, but he did show up tonight.
His dad was in the stands, Anthony Carter, former NBA player.
So Carter goes for 14 points on three is seven from three yet three rebounds.
He had four assists.
He had a steal.
He did have five turnovers and some of his turnovers were tough.
He kept getting into weird situations where he had nowhere to go.
And that, again, is part of the reason why I think Max Ray know how to really tough game,
because Devin Carter just doesn't have the court division as a true NBA point guard.
He does when he's on a fast break or when he's coming from one angle and he's attacking
the rim from one side and he can see what's in front of him.
But what he doesn't have is the full complement of court vision that we see from guys like
again, Malik or Russell Westbrook or even Killian Hayes has incredible court vision.
It's something that he has to work on, but also like look, Devin Carter is not a point
guard.
He's not a point guard, but he's just not, he can be a combo guard, he can be a shooting
guard and an undersized shooting guard at six to, but he's not a point guard and trying
to get your point guard skills up to NBA's standard is nearly impossible for somebody who
hasn't played point guard their entire life.
So not a horrible game, but again, the five turnovers a little rough.
Let's get to number two, number five, which is roll, but no pass.
Next thing we know, he just thrives in the pick and roll.
It's how he's torn up the league here in the second half of the season.
He's been absolutely tremendous.
Either the magic took away the pick and roll or the Kings just couldn't, couldn't figure
out a way to get into that action.
And that's part of the problem when you can't shoot when you're 30th and league in three
point attempts, 30th and the league in three point percentage.
It collapses the defense and a team like Orlando who is a solid defensive team.
They found ways to take away Max right now for much of the game.
So Rayno didn't have a horrible night, but he finished with 10 points on four of nine
shooting and a lot of people were like, oh, you know,
tomorrow shooting all the shots and Max isn't getting any opportunity.
Those two things, to be honest, I don't think they have anything to do with each other.
Like you could say that maybe Devon Carter or maybe that that Malik Monk didn't
get enough shots because Domar was taking too many.
But it was more because they couldn't get in the pick and roll action.
So again, not a horrible night.
He added seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, which is nice.
Let's get to number six, which is staying busy.
Persistent to a plays with the physicality and effort that the Kings are searching for.
I've talked about him glowingly since I took over this podcast, but all season long,
just super impressed.
He went to work against the magic.
He made some mistakes here and there, but he had 14 points and nine rebounds,
two blocks in the steal.
Like, look, this is a player the Kings have been looking for forever.
This style of player, they just haven't been able to find and, you know, again,
they had Trey Liles who was kind of like this, but not really.
There's just a different level of physicality that precious plays with.
And I'm hoping that he's back for the next season.
All right, so that's going to wrap up tonight's show.
