Detroit Lions Sign Edge Defender Payton Turner

The Detroit Lions signed Free Agent Edge Defender Peyton Turner on Friday afternoon.

He's a former first-round pick by the New Orleans Saints, taking 28th overall back in 2021

after starring at the University of Houston.

Turner faced a tough start to his pro career, playing just 31 games over four years with

the Saints without a single start.

He's the railed him, including a shoulder issue as a rookie,

Turf Toe that wiped out most of 2023 and a rib problem that sidelined.

Him for all of last season with the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite the setbacks, Turner showed some flash in his final year with New Orleans, logging

16 games with 21 tackles, 2 sacks, 4.

Passes defended, and 2 forced fumbles.

As 6.6 and 270 pounds, the 27-year-old brings size, speed, and a familiar mold to Detroit.

Much like their past, interest in big athletic ends.

He's a low-risk, low-cost addition after signing a one-year deal worth $2.5 million last

time around.

Turner joins DJ Woneman competing for spots after the Lions lost Al Quatt and Muhammad

and Tyrus Wheat to Free Agency, with Marcus Davenport and Pat.

Expect more moves here, whether through Free Agency or the draft in April as Detroit

builds depth on the edge.
