Word on the streets of Dallas Fort Worth is all about the severe storms that battered

North Texas on Wednesday night.

Fox four news reports, DFW Airport shattered a 90-year-old rainfall record, with 1.55

inches, while Mesquite and SeaGovill saw up to 8 inches, triggering flash floods on

I-45 in Hutchins and high water rescues in several towns.

In Garland, heavy rain caused a commercial building roof to collapse on Kingsley Road, but

all seven workers escaped safely.

Fort Worth firefighters tackled a house place sparked by lightning, and viral videos captured

stunning spider lightning over Lake Ray Hubbard.

According to the National Weather Service, expect scattered showers today, but a cold

front Friday night could bring hail, winds, and more flooding risks by Saturday.

Shifting to brighter notes, meet local hero Maria Gonzalez from Oak Cliff, a lifelong

Mesquite resident who organized community sandbagging during the floods.

The 68-year-old grandmother, featured in local reports rallied neighbors to protect homes,

echoing the spirit of Dallas's tight-knit barrios, like something out of a classic Texas

western tail, with a modern twist.

Looking ahead, today's weather eases to partly cloudy skies, with highs near 68 degrees,

per Fox four meteorologists.
