About this episode
Matt asks whether the anti-establishment ideas he associates with movies such as The Matrix, Fight Club, and Office Space arose independently or were culturally programmed. He connects that question to surveillance cameras, calls for AI regulation, Neuralink, and a future divide between technologically enhanced and unenhanced people, ending on whether society was trained to accept changes that now feel inevitable.

Because there are times where I feel like I am very much on the anti-establishment side, on the anti-institution side. Feel like, and we talk about a lot on the show, how things are broken, how we question everything, how narratives don't really make sense, and it's our job and duty to break them apart,
and to discuss them, to put our ideas out into the world. And this kind of anti-establishment type of nature that I have, is that from me, or was I programmed to think that way for this moment? For this time in history, was I preceded with that information? That's what we're going to talk about today. Let's go. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, wherever in the world you are. Welcome to the Matt Kim show. I'm your host, Matt Kim. And it's been a while since we've done one of these kind of intros, and well, I officially welcomed you. So sit back, drink your glass of wine or beer, or if you're driving in the car, or if you have work, or you're studying, or you're just on the internet doing the internet things. Thank you for spending your time and your precious time with me.
You know, a friend of mine recently messaged me, and he sent me this kind of super-clutch, super-cut type of video. And in the super-cut, it was all these movies from back in the day that were probably some sort of a siaop, and that we believed that they were really interesting, but yet they seemed to have formed how I view the world. And I'm going to age myself a little bit, or I'm not going to tell you exactly how old I am, but just to give you a reference, my favorite movies, growing up, or my favorite movies. What's your favorite movie? On my list is The Matrix, Bite Club, Office Space, movies from that generation. Those are the movies I like. You know, and most of these movies, they all have a really similar theme,
and they're all from roughly around the same time and era in this country. And the theme is, is that people live no ordinary lives. There is something wrong with society. They are feeling empty through their life. They're feeling empty through the mundaneness of their routine, and they want something different. Mr. Robot, Mr. Robot is another, it's my favorite show I've ever watched. They're all the similar theme. Although it seems like we are comfortable, something is wrong, and we need to break it down and build back differently. These are my favorite movies growing up. And shows Mr. Robot, Matrix, Bite Club, I can go on and on, but those majority.
In the autumn harvest bowl, maple glaze, salmon plate, and roasted bacon, bristle side, the season's most desirable menu has returned to sweet green. Featuring falls best dressed. Make your move. Anything about it around the same time? Because we know that the system and establishment uses movies to program us. They've been programming us recently over things like Civil War. They've been programming us about this dystopian type of future. They've been programming us there's this thing that I read, and I don't know how true it is, but I find it fascinating. They talk about how before the USAID was funding and giving money to rap music, and because of that, there were always number one in the charts, and now that the funding has gone away, you don't see any rap songs in the top 10 of Billboards any longer.
And I looked it up and it's true. Are people just not listening to rap or is a siape of rap and that lifestyle kind of over? We know that they use movies and Hollywood to influence the way we think. You know this, I know this, this is kind of something we've talked about on the show many times before. And if that is true, the movies that I watched, that I consider my favorite movies, that I liked them because they agreed with or they talked about things I already believed, or do I believe what I believe because I loved those movies? It's crazy, isn't it? Chicken or Ed? Who came first? Do I believe what I believe? Because I believe it, or was I siapped over an entire generation? Because a friend of mine sent this video and it kind of talks and references this idea,
and it shows these movies, clips from these movies, Clockwork Orange. And I said, man, I said, Mark, I said, Mark, Matt Korean, he is on one of my favorite Korean podcasts, Eastward Bound, Eastbound and Down, that was a funny show, remember that show? And he said, no, I think that the purpose of those movies were to make us feel like we're not crazy in that feeling to neuter us, to make us feel and accept this way of life and feel okay in our mundaneness. That was his take on this idea. And I thought about it. And I don't think so. I think what they were doing in that generation was that they were preparing
people, they were preparing the citizens for what to come, so that we, it almost mimics a normalized idea that we although are relatively comfort and are comfortable in our lives, that there will be a change in society and we will be okay with burning down the system that we've become very complacent with because it's broken. Something's wrong with the system that we live and therefore it needs to be something different. And what is that different? Well, I think we start seeing it now already actually. We're starting to see this new future that they're trying to usher on, the one that they're trying to force upon us. Let me first we start during COVID where we normalize the idea of locking people down, we normalize the idea of riding on your neighbors, we normalize the idea of government interfering with our lives and telling us what we can do with our bodies, what we should do,
restricting our movement, restricting, printing money, making sure that people in new for sure in their mind that money isn't real and that they have all the power upon us. That happened during COVID, I know that you know that, everyone knows that. And then now with this kind of new surveillance state that they're rolling out, right? It's a surveillance state that we're being ushered into. And first they did, well, the border is wide open and there's too many illegals here and because we have all these illegals, we need to start rolling out federal troops into your cities. We need to start checking people's IDs. We need to start monitoring your social media. If you come in this country, we're only looking for illegals, trust us. And then it extends out a little bit more. Well, actually, we're going to monitor what you say on the internet because you guys are really angry about this Israel thing.
But you shouldn't be because they're our greatest ally. So if you guys are talking about them, we're going to come knock on your door also. And then we see the clips of people and FBI showing what people's house is because they were critical of Israel and we're like, whoa, what the hell? We don't do anything. We get normalized to it. We get used to that idea. I can't believe they did that. That's horrible. What'd you do about it? Nothing? Me neither. And then we hear like these flock cameras and they're putting these flock cameras all over the town. Actually, do you know what? I got an H.O.A. email the other day from the H.O.A. And they said, hey, help us identify these two people because they took the flock cameras in our neighborhood. And I'm saying they're going, what the? I didn't know we had flock cameras in our neighborhood. Who authorized that? Why are there flock cameras in my neighborhood, in my sub-division?
And how come I didn't know about it? Where are they? And someone stole them? Do you know what? Good for them. They are putting those cameras everywhere and people are upset. People don't want them. People are showing up at the town hall saying, no, you can't put these cameras here. This is corrupt. You guys are making deals with the chief of police and we don't want them. And in unison, everyone's like, yeah, flock cameras, bad flock cameras, bad. And then James Lee did this amazing piece talking about how the only reason that people are being bad, this idea that flock cameras are bad is because they actually want to get rid of flock as a company and they want to usher in the other company that does the same exact thing. But this new company actually has shares ownership with the Trump family and therefore the whole idea of the flock cameras is not to remove surveillance cameras. The whole point of removing flock cameras is
so that they replace them with a company and product that the establishment has more profitability in, which is wild and crazy. Sorry, I don't remember the name. And then you're like, they are tracking us. They are putting all types of trackers into our devices onto the internet, which by the way, which is why we have the VPN, VP.net. We can talk about that another day because we've had a lot of developments there, but that's interesting one. VP.net will leave a comment. We'll leave a link in the description, only VP.net can't spy on you, but they are ushering this surveillance state. And then we have in the news that there is this war or there is this weird thing with AI going on where all the AI frontier labs are all sudden they're like, oh yeah, do you know what? AI is really dangerous. It could be really dangerous. We should all slow down.
Dario puts out this from anthropic. Dario puts out this long piece talking about how if they are not careful, the AI can go in a weird direction and that he recommends flowing down and then Sam Altman agrees with Dario, which they hate each other. And then Elon Musk agrees with Dario and Sam Altman and they hate each other. And when they all agree on something, it's not for your benefit. It's for their benefit. Like, why are they all agreeing all of a sudden? Like, what are they doing? And at the end of this, it is, do you know what? We would accept or would be okay with some sort of government oversight, government regulation. What is going on when private companies are asking for more regulation? Something is weird.
Trump's like, oh no, no, no, no, we have to queue. The guy's like oblivious. He doesn't even know what's going on. What does that mean? What does this all mean actually? Why are the AI companies all of a sudden saying we need to slow down, we need more government regulation? Why are we seeing cameras all over the place? Why are we normalizing the idea of us being tracked that it's okay for them to put tracking devices and auto shutoffs and all of our cars in the future? What is going on? And I think Elon said this before actually. He talked about how in this new age of abundance that will be our shirt on by this AI state that people will be that they don't will have so much that you don't have to work. So Trump said too, right? The government will have so much money that you actually won't even have to work anymore. What are they
doing? Well, they are trying to change society and humanity. They are trying to change it, saying that yes, you may be comfortable in your system. Yes, those things are annoying. Yes, we're a bunch of pedos saying this, but if you don't like that, here we have a different system for you. And people are like, oh look, Mamdani is a socialist. Well, dude, these guys sound like socialists too, by the way. You're not going to have to work because big brothers are going to take care of you. They're trying to normalize this idea of breaking down existing society and replace it with a version of their own. And it sounds crazy, doesn't it? I would fight it. I would for sure fight against that. Except that's kind of the theme of the matrix. That's kind of the theme of
fight club. Fight club, he is so bored with his normal life of his condo and his IKEA furniture that he decides he's going to make bombs and he's going to burn down a building and he is going to reset the credit system because he wants to change the world. Neil wants to escape the matrix and reset it because the mundanity of life needs to be fixed. These concepts that are going on today, I disagree with, but I kind of can see it. And why do I see it? Why do I think that that's natural or why do I feel like that's going to happen regardless? Have I been prepped for this moment? Have I been normalized to this idea that this is okay
because I've seen it before because this is what my favorite movies are told me because Hollywood side-ups you, we know this. And yet, is this different? When the Olympics have all the satanic imagery and we're like, oh, how would they do that? When we were shown from when we were young, we had to watch shinland's list over and over and over again, everything's black and white and then they show you the little girl with the red dress and you never forget the girl in the red dress. And they show it to you in school, over and over and over again. Are my ideas my own? Or are we being sived to believe that this new change in society, this new dystopia, this new
utopia that they want to build? You know, and these people are transhumanists, which is like maybe the weirdest type of human, they believe that it's okay to merge machine and human. That's like what they believe. And like, oh, yeah, you know, Elon's doing a really good job with New Orleans, is he? He wants to put like brain chips in people's minds, you're okay with that. I'm not, I think that's so weird. I'm not going to do that. But there's also going to be a time society where that becomes a dividing line actually. Like imagine if you had a brain chip attached to your brain, and you can process all this information instantly without even like thinking. Be pretty wild, wouldn't it? But then let me give you a, and you're probably saying, no, I'm never going to do that. Fair. Me neither. But, but if you got in trouble and you needed a lawyer and the
opposing lawyer was a chipped lawyer, one that process information at a rate that's uncalculable by human, do you really want to go up against him with a nonchipped lawyer? You're going to lose. If you have to have surgery on your brain or you have to have some sort of life threatening life endangering surgery, do you want the human that just goes on memory on how to do the procedure? Or do you want the god with the brain chip that sees all the schematics and x-rays and everything in his eyes and then just does it perfectly because he has everything there. And all of a sudden, people are like, well, why would you ever hire a normal lawyer? Why would you ever hire a regular doctor? Why would you only go to the chip? And all of a sudden, the people that have the chips have this value and then there's this huge separation of society between chip to not chip. And you're like, whoa, it's not what I wanted, but it happened. And because they exist, I'm going to use it.
I don't want to rob it in the house. Me neither. It seems really dangerous. But I'm going to go to someone's house and they're going to have a robot and it's going to do the dishes and the house can be clean and they don't have to ever take out the trash. I'm like, huh, that robot's pretty cool. Maybe I should get one. Featuring falls best dressed. Make your move. Order on the sweet green app. I get so many headaches every month. Terminator 2 Terminator AlbiBach They've been telling us about and sinning about this new change in society into a new
way of system and structure and way life will run, new type of government. They've been telling us about this for decades now. And we're right at the precipice of that, I believe. And it's no longer shocking to us. It is no longer something that we're thinking, oh, that's crazy. No, we're not. We're like, oh, yeah. I thought that coming. Did you? Did you actually see it coming or were you trained to accept it? It's a crazy thought, isn't it? How much of our belief in society has been around? Because we always talk about how other people are siopped. Are we siopped also? So you guys have a few days.
