LSU Athletic Director Verge Ausberry has recently emphasized a "revenue revolution" to manage massive budget deficits, specifically prioritizing football as the department's economic engine while restructuring administrative roles to boost Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) funding for baseball. Ausberry’s Athletics "Priorities" Ausberry has implemented a new reporting structure aimed at aggressive revenue generation to cover a projected $54 million deficit following the firing of football coach Brian Kelly. Football as the "Measuring Stick": Ausberry stated that the football program is the department's priority, declaring that LSU must be in the College Football Playoff every year for the department to remain viable. Revenue Sharing Formulas: Despite new leadership, the revenue-sharing model remains fixed: 75% to football, 15% to men’s basketball, and 5% each to women’s basketball and remaining sports. Administrative Reshuffle: Ausberry has tasked Zach Greenwell (Deputy AD) specifically with raising NIL money for baseball and women’s basketball, acknowledging these programs as critical but expensive pillars that must drive their own revenue streams.
