Welcome to the Mercy Minute with MercyShip CEO, Dr. Michelle White. We first met Gustav in 1994 when he came to MercyShip for surgery. His childhood dream had been filled with difficulties. His eyes were crossed, making it difficult to see, difficult to learn in school, and difficult to believe he belonged. Surgery could correct his vision, but in his country it simply wasn't available. A bored our ship, volunteer surgeons from around the world offered him something he'd almost given up on, hope. When Gustav came to MercyShip's, a brighter future finally felt possible. After six hours of surgery, years of struggle began to fall away. The next day when his bandages were removed, a different little boy began to emerge.
