How are you? I'm doing good. Doing real good, you know, just, you know, almost forgot about the show today because it's been a short week, you know, skip today and wasn't used to it. And I'm sitting there and I'm like, it's like a daring headlights. I'm on around screwing around trying to get everything together and but here I am and I'm ready to talk some Dolphin football. You got the Florida colors on today to sit in there and are you still in South Florida? This is not orange. This is salmon salmon. But that's a South Florida color. That's like a Miami vice. Yeah, it's not it's not the hurricane color. So no, no, it's more like Naples colors there, buddy. Naples colors. Well, no, you're a different guy when you're in Naples, man. We all love the sunshine. We all love that. And this is fun to have you here and Kyle you as well, man. It's getting closer day by day and you heard my intro, right? I mean, I'm sick of talking about what this team doesn't have or might not have Kyle.

3:03I want to talk about what they might have. I mean, it's exciting. That's the that's the flip side of having all this youth and all this in experience. It's just you never know who's going to be that diamond in the rough. The next Jalen Waddle, the next Devon H and the next Lord for Bid Zach Thomas or Jason Taylor. We never know. You better be careful. People start accused you to peddle in hope and long the timeline because you're optimistic about a few things. A realistically, hope you like it. So I hate I hate the word copium, hope, him, whatever. Just for acknowledging that there's a spectrum of outcomes that guys can come out on the side of. And some of them are going to land on the upper side of it. Now, if you were to say every question mark and every uncertain player on the dolphins roster is going to be the best versions of himself. Yeah, you're you're peddling hopeium in that case. We know that's not the case law of averages, right? Like guys are probably going to evenly distribute between big step forward, modest step forward, no step forward or a little bit of regression. Right? Like that's the whole roster is littered with players like that.

4:04Finding out who the players are that take the big step for me is like the thing about this season that I'm excited the most about. I don't know if you guys did you guys catch Jeff Hathley's press conference that went about two hours ago. Did you catch what he had to say about Jordan Phillips, the defensive tackle? Do you guys see it? It's it's about as strongly worded of an endorsement this side of Jordan Brooks as we've gotten from Jeff Hathley about anybody. He said, you know, talk about how it's a selfless position and he's going to do a bunch of things for you that don't show up in the box score, but he embraces that attitude. The players are off this weekend. We're asking a lot of guys where they're going. Jordan's probably going to be in the sauna at 5 a.m. tomorrow, lifting weights. He doesn't stop. Got a lot of respect for him. It's Jeff Hathley on Jordan Phillips. Like to see players like that and Jordan's I think still the youngest player on the 53 man roster and he was on the team last year. Getting another opportunity with another year with this scheme that you're hoping is going to be a long term scheme here that you're going to run for a really long time.

5:07Seeing how those guys fit into those opportunities is that's what this year for me is all about like yeah and it gets it does get me going a little bit because you want to see all these guys be successful. Not just because you're rooting for the team, but it's this guy's dream that guy's dream this out there opportunity. It's right here. Who makes the most of it? You want to see those guys do well? You know all of them won't that's the reality of it. But yeah, you got you got me going with Greece because I think this is so much of like. I try to stay in this lane not because I think it's going to happen for everybody, but because you have to acknowledge what's possible for everybody and then we take the information as it comes and judge the players how they play and how they meet the mold. Z, I just want to get you to pick up on that because that's very well put by Kyle. Well, yeah, I mean the cats on this team have an opportunity to play in the NFL and play a lot of great snaps this year because of how this team is structured right now. It's very young. So you get some cats to get in some young reps early in their career to see what they have and to get better and to have hopefully great careers like Kyle just mentioned, you know what Phil's you know that dude's got a chance to log in some quality.

6:14Snaps that he probably wouldn't get on a lot of other teams because of way they're built and they're older, you know people ahead of them who are playing or their higher draft picks ahead of him playing. He's lucky, you know, grants out so that you know there's another opportunity to log reps for this kid. So he's got a chance to really improve and improve quickly and show what he's what he's worth to this organization or to other organizations. So it's an opportunity for you know pretty much majority of this roster probably 85% of this roster is able to go out there get reps they probably wouldn't get in a lot of other buildings and to have success hopefully for this team and for themselves. I think it's unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. You know for for these kids. I want to talk throughout the show about guys we think could really you know take advantage of the opportunity haven't been excited about a young receiver core like this for sure in a long time and we'll talk about different position groups over the years where youth has come in but.

7:14Z it's not just about looking for the next superstar right it's not about who's going to be the next Tyree kill because there might never be another Tyree kill he might be the best dolphins player in the last 15 or 20 years at least statistically in those first two years right. And the end didn't go so well for him but things happen with that group and obviously but a young core coming in at receiver some young linebackers is the shame with the tray more injury but Jacob Rodriguez handed the keys think about that just for one second and I know you guys do i'm not talking to you Kyle and Z but think about what it takes to come in out of college and be handed the keys to an NFL defense from a guy as highly regarded as Jeff Halfley and to beat out a veteran who had a solid camp in a really good year last year. So you got to be excited about Rodriguez and you got to be excited about Johnson everything we've heard about him on the outside I still would have taken Rubin Bane over proctor that's just me because I would have gone past rush on the defensive side not guard offensive guard but I understand the pick and I'm looking for great things out of him and you know so I just think that there are a lot of young players the who could turn into stars but it's not just about that who's going to be the Jeff Skanina who's going to play 12 15 17 years in the league maybe for a bunch of teams who's got it in some of the teams.

8:23Who's got it inside of them to be an NFL player whether they're a star or not because most of the league Z is made up of non stars 90% of it non stars well yeah I mean we're gonna we're gonna see because again I said I these dudes would probably not get a lot of looks until maybe four or five years in their career. You know get quality reps but some of these kids are going to get reps right away you know you got the rookie starting the middle linebacker. You know back in the day it was very hard for a rookie I'm sure where you were drafted to break in day one as a starter but nowadays if you're in the first three rounds you are getting reps because of the money you are getting reps you are playing with Georgia first round draft picks are starting. You know only a few or are not probably but majority of them are in the mix and they're playing no matter how good or how bad they are they are in a mix because where they were drafted and how much capital is in their pocket. But you know back in the day there wasn't like that you had to earn your reps so again these kids are getting the reps you know wishing the best of luck we're gonna see what they are and like and like solid said he's going to stay young so you know these kids they may only be or four or five years and then they may be gone i'm talking about our draft picks this year they may not be around for that second contract you know according to him he's gonna turn this roster continuously to stay young now he'll keep a core probably 10 to 15 guys that'll be veterans older cats you know.

9:45Your stalwarts of your organization but besides that they're just gonna turn and burn and keep getting younger. What do you call it Kyle? I just watched a video of yours what did you call Monday? You didn't call it manic Monday you called it something with John Eric Sullivan in one of your videos you popped up in a short on my feed and I watched it. Oh it's a supermarket sweet supermarket sweet there you go yeah that's what it was. Try and buy it with a card just tickle the the 12 pound hands and knock them into your cart and go run it down the aisle. This is pretty. Yeah sweet. Oh that is it's what they did but and it's just again like it's just proof to the Kyle that John Eric Sullivan has waited his whole life for a job like this and for half the half least said this numerous times to come in with a guy like him and they talked about it how they were in San Francisco Z and we'll get your thoughts after this because you were there but um halfly compared it to Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch in Tampa Bay what they're able to do here coming in together and being on the same page Kyle from the beginning John Eric Sullivan and Jeff Halfley and neither guy shy or afraid whatsoever in that new role I mean I think John Eric Sullivan has proven from

10:49the second he got here he's gonna do everything he needs to do to get it done but that's gonna include turning and burning with this roster every chance he gets to get better. Yeah I think right now what you're seeing is an understand like there's a little bit of freedom with the understanding this is gonna take some time that's that's part of this right and that's the swap of viewers to to Kyle McCord and John Eric Sullivan was asked about you know what happens if he did a pressur at earlier this week and he was asked what happens if Kyle McCord has to play like how do you get him ready to play when he's he's just getting here and he said you know it's an uncomfortable thing but for us to get to where we want to go we have to do some uncomfortable things and hope that it works out and if we don't do things because they're uncomfortable that I'm not doing my job right right like so there's an understanding that there's a freedom that comes with what need the work that needs to be done but there's also like a esteem that comes with how they're going to be how they're going about their business right now and that can change in ebb and flow and if things don't turn out well and you miss on some

11:52graphics how do you respond to that like what do you do personnel wise to try to cover for that if you end up getting holes because you don't hit on players like that's all stuff we still have to find out but to your point Greece about how long John Eric Sullivan has been an executive in the NFL building to this moment you can feel the conviction that he has in his team building and that conversation says and that conviction breeds not wavoring when it comes time to make decisions like they have moved on from some guys they they trade to too out well for Jarquois Hunter and they don't get the evil that they want in a few days for Jarquois Hunter and they release him they end up getting back on the practice squad so it doesn't bite you in the rear end. It's the the Quen yours swapped with Kyle McCord and around about way so I think you have to look at how look at how they're going about business right now and appreciate the conviction that's coming with it. Your hope is that you stay on schedule to build the team and most importantly, you pick the right players to give the big contracts to because as long as you do that, you're not

12:52going to put yourself into a corner where you can't pivot if something doesn't work out. Z, what's that like to have a GM and a coach come in on the same page like that? You've been in situations like that and you've been in every type of situation for that matter. Oh, it helps because you know, they're not battling each other. They're not saying this is my roster, this is his roster. I want it. This guy went like, they're on the same page. It's similar like you brought up, you know, Lynch and Shanahan. You know, I was out there for that and those guys were on the same page. Page is still on the same page. You know, they knew exactly what they want. You know, John sat down with all of us, you know, all the other coaches and ask, you know, especially the coordinators and ask what kind of player do you want for each position? And then, you know, and as a position coach, as you talk about it with the coordinator and the GM and all the scouts and they go out there and they get those guys. It's plug and play guys, you know, and that's what you want. You don't want some guys just bringing some dude in there who has got all these great skills, but they don't apply to what's being taught and what the defense is or the offense is.

13:52So they're all on the same page. You're getting these guys, you're getting these guys, you know, like on this, you know, they picked up a waiver wire. Same thing. There's a fit the scheme that's being taught that's going to be played. And that's how they're going to build it because they have seven day one teachers, teachers, teachers, and that's what they're doing. They're teaching these kids how to play how to, you know, shine up their techniques to fit in. And a lot of high draft picks too, Kyle. I mean, this isn't something where, you know, you're just bringing in a lot of young players to fill in gaps and that's part of it. But a lot of very highly regarded players and a lot of players they really wanted who they were even surprised slid to them. So whereas the entire offensive line except for Brewer is first and second round picks. And you got Johnson and Rodriguez and all these guys on defense. And so it's a nice mix of young players and the veterans who they wanted to keep around Kyle who are going to be so huge for this team. And this isn't a show necessarily about that. But I just want to get your guys thoughts before we hit the break on that because the mentorship of these veterans, Kyle is going to be crucial guys like Jordan Brooks and Aaron Brewer

14:55on the offense. And obviously you hear some of the things coming out of the mouth of Malik Willis. You feel good about that. But the older young guys, Kyle, are going to be called to step up and be more of a vets than they even are at the stage of their careers. Yeah, I think about names like Patrick Paul and Malik Washington and, you know, there's just a couple examples there. I'm trying to think defensively who are like third, fourth year guys that, what Chopra Robinson, but Chop's got a, I, Chop didn't take a leap like Patrick Paul did last season, right? The list is pretty short. And I think that's why, you know, was there getting ready to vote for captains? It'll be interested to see what the captain run down and is up looking like. So you guys see the chargers and the Rams had 10 and 11 respective captains for their teams. Yeah. 20% of them 53 men, roster is a captain for this year. So I don't think you'll get that with my hands. Yeah. Donald, he wasn't one of the 11. No, he should be just showed up there.

15:56He should be able to do what he wants. Shouldn't he see his hair, Donald, but he was going to tell him he's not. Well, I mean, yes, no, but the guy hasn't played in two years. He hasn't, you know, a lot of those cats on that team didn't even play with them, you know, three years ago because it was always a turnover. So, you know, he's got to earn his right to be a captain. I mean, he's a phenomenal football player. Don't get me wrong. I'm not passionate about any means, but again, he's got to put the sweat equity in with the guys to be voted as a captain. Yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun to see. And by the way, the dolphins will not face a rookie quarterback in week one. So no such luck. It's Kirk Cousins coming out of Vegas, but we told you that from the beginning with the squad. And you look at the Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady's of the world. For example, they didn't play right away, man. They braided in play until year two and Blitzel got hurt. Aaron Rogers came in on a Brett Farr coming in on a good team with an established quarterback. Learning a system is not the worst thing in the world. And I, for one, I'm, you know, it's as a dolphin. You know, someone who's the poem for the dolphins you want to see men, those out there in

16:58week one, because you want to take advantage of the rookie QB. But again, their raiders are playing it smart with cousins. We'll get the guys thoughts on that. We'll talk about some more potential breakouts this year for the dolphins offensive side of the ball. You have to start with the receivers and the offensive line and then the defense. The linebackers are the ones that have me most excited with the secondary being the question mark and then the pass rush as well. So I know some opposing offensive coordinators looking their chops a little bit to get at the dolphins. I hope that as well, so many things come in your way on the squad show right after Kyle brings us game time and we're going to leave all three of these handsome faces up during the breaks for you today. 20:05Because it was like a calcium, basically. So we were in the north end zone, scaffolding when I first was going to the bearer games. We had four tickets and there was five of us that would always go. We had a friend that worked for the park district. You'd sneak, you'd sneak me because that was the youngest. I was bigger than my cousins, but somehow I always got to snuck in somehow and I had to sit on the lap or we were right on the aisle. So I sat on the aisle, you know. But yeah, north end zone. You remember the problems with the tickets, right? Like don't lose the tickets, don't spill anything on them, don't leave them anywhere. God forbid anything happens to any of the tickets. I mean, all that's gone. It's everybody's so spoiled with game time and apps like that. It used to be a completely different experience. You'd have them like my mom would have the tickets on the refrigerator magnet for like a month. Don't anybody touch the tickets, you know. We used to go see Marino every year in Foxboro and we were like a few of the 14 fans in the stadium before people were Patriots fans are even admitted to being Patriots fans back when Grogon and San Bam Cunningham and guys like that. Marino would go up there every year and it'd be raining, it'd be wet, it'd be miserable,

21:09you'd be sitting on metal bleachers, but some of the best memories, but you'd guard those tickets with your life and now you just pull out your phone and make sure it's charged and go, hey, here you go. We're in, but with the whole experience has changed and you're not sneaking in any stadiums anymore. Is he nobody's in anywhere these days? God no, no. No, I don't like how it is now. Like even when I was playing, we had to like physically either hand you the tickets or leave that will call. And now it's like, I have a lot of issues with the phone and apps. So I'm not the most happy camper on game day. If I have to like start leaving your passes and the pre-game passes for your family and friends, you get sometimes, that's a pain you have to do too because it's all some electronic, some are stickers and you got to wait for the people to come to see you. So it's more and more pain, but I like the old days, we'll just all paper and you just hand somebody if they get them. They lose them, they lose them. I don't care once they're out of my hands. It's not my problem. There you go, Jeff Skinina. I'm not coming to your wedding. That was my favorite one.

22:09I'm not coming to your wedding. It's in season. And he was all happy about it. I'm not going. But Kyle, it really is. It's a different experience to go to a game these days. If you can afford it, you know, if you take out a third, fourth, fifth mortgage at the same time for a pre-season game, but we have the regular season coming up and it's exciting to me. I mean, I love it. I, Kyle, you mentioned it in segment one. I love it when people get a chance to live their dream, especially a dream like this, because let's be real. So many people, and I don't want to get on my soapbox here. I do enough of it on social media, but I'm trying to inspire as many people as I can, because if a lump like me can live my dream for 30 years, anybody can do it, right? Kyle, you're living yours. Z, you've lived yours. And we're still living ours. But to have a dream as big and as bold as making the NFL, Kyle, and being a star of the NFL, even just a step on an NFL field as a player. The type of dedication, the type of commitment, the type of work it took, the type, you know, your friends are going out, you're not going, you're working out. You know, there's so many things that have been sacrificed to get to where these guys

23:10are now. And we make light of it because you almost have to every year with so many cuts. You're like, oh, they're go the truck drivers and the warehouse workers. But those truck drivers and warehouse workers are some of the best football players on the planet. And they have more guts and more fortitude and more fire in them than most people could ever dream of having. And that's why I love seeing this, you know, which guys are going to step up. It's not like it's easy, Kyle. It's the ultimate stage in sports, if you ask me. And it's the hardest thing to do. People talk about hitting a baseball, being the hardest thing to do in sports. And it is tough. And there goes Z in the middle again, Kyle. But when you talk about making it to a league like the NFL and competing against these athletes, man, every day in practice and weekend and week out in the games, that's a special kind of person to even have that kind of dream and go all in on it. Yeah. And Z, can you hear me? I can hear you. Oh, okay. You lost. Let's strap up. I just had this conversation with somebody today too. But like for all of the talk about, and I get it hasn't happened a ton in Miami in recent

24:13years. But you can't assume that it will or won't happen with this group. And that's again, part of why we're excited for or I'm excited for this season. But I'm going to Ross St. Brown. Think about I'm going to Ross St. Brown in Detroit. I'm going to have a golf choice. He played at USC. Good football player USC. But fell to 112th overall. He's got 14 hundred plus receiving yards and two last three seasons. He's got 10 plus touchdowns in the each of the last three seasons from a receiving standpoint. 112th overall pick. There is a Puganuku with a Rams house sensational. He has been he's a fifth round draft choice. There are examples of these kinds of players. You don't know until you know when a guy goes out and does it. And I'm not saying that I'm putting any of that level of expectation on any of the young players that the dolphins have brought in in the last two years. But is there guys that can get on a trajectory in a path to being long term starts thinking about some of the best dolphins players of the past 15 years. Rashad Jones was a fifth round draft choice out of Georgia.

25:16Safety is fifth round draft. He started for the team for a decade was even Howard was in a first round draft choice. There's plenty of examples and that's why I've always thought. How the dolphins kind of played them draft for the middle of this last bill. They did themselves a disservice because you can't find gems and hits in the draft if you don't make any picks in the draft. And that's kind of where the dolphins ended up. So yeah, it's just continuing that thought about why I'm so excited for the season despite the fact that like the win lost total is not something that you're expecting of robust number four is we're playing a long game here. And I know a lot of fans don't want to play a long game because they're tired of waiting in 25 years without a playoff win and all that jazz and I get it. But like you can't hold this group to the sins of all those other teams because it's not the same people. That's a great way to put it and it's it really is not the same people's. See not many guys Kyle. How many did you say last time we're here? It's like 21 or 20 if you include Kenneth Granite is 22 players from last year's 53

26:18on this year's 53 plus grain on injured reserve. Zia, I always think of Jerry Glanville. Can you hear me Z? I think he's frozen again. I want an ever that we're seeing right. There he is. Kyle, I'll get your thought. I always think of Jerry Glanville when I say, he's, this stands for not for long in the NFL and it really doesn't. So Kyle, you just, you go with Zeeb on this, but he's for this. You got it. But I just, I'm amazed by the opportunities, but I'm also amazed by what we've seen from some of these young players, right? Kyle to that point, guys like Johnson and Camp, guys like Jacob Rodriguez earning the starting middle linebacker and having the key and the green dot and the key to the defense. And you know, Kaden Proctor turning his and getting ray reviews and that first try by the offensive line. And then, you know, you throw in the second year players that likes Jonas, Sophia and I who's taking a big leap in the third year guys who are still young and and entering. So you, I think the first three years of a career are when you just say, Hey, you're either going to be here. You're going to be here for a short time. You're going to be here for a long time. You're going to be really good or great or you're not going to work out.

27:20And the Dolphin's had a lot of question marks, Kyle coming into this season. And I'll just throw to you and Zee on this. But so far, it's not just the rookies who have flashed at receiver at linebacker on the offensive line. It's Jonas, Sophia and I, it's Chop Robinson, who we talked all of season about. And Patrick Paul by all indications has continued his assent. So those, those guys in their first three years in the NFL on this roster, that's a different evaluation than the team as a whole, completely different. Yeah, I want to frame what you said to Zee a little differently as a question for Zee. Assuming Zee can still hear me. I got your Kyle. All right. Yeah. So him talking about the, the three year window when guys first come into the league and that kind of be like the finding role. I'd love to hear your perspective on guys that. Any guys at the top of your mind that broke out after that three year window. Obviously, there's names like, you think about Rich Ganon and what he did as a quarterback.

28:24Oh, it's a guy who, who had a major glow up late in his career and wanted MVP. What your experience was like and what the first three years of your career felt like and how you grew in that window versus how much you were able to grow beyond those first three seasons. That's that dynamic of that. Ormative window when you first make the leap versus how any guys that you've seen make the leap afterwards. What was different for them? I think every, every player is different. Okay. So we'll start off with me and I. But if you ate my second year and then got released on this Carolina, I think I'll be. And then you know, released and then went to. Atlanta played a little bit in Atlanta. They went to St. Louis, played a bunch of games, got released, you know, bounced around. And I didn't get my first start until seven, half years into my career.

29:24I mean, I was jokingly telling people I'm going as long as I can without starting. I don't play my whole career without starting. Let's see how long. Let's get to 10 years without being a starter. I mean, maybe a record, I think, you know, just be a bounce around journey, man like that. But I play again, you can talk about Kurt Warner. He bounced around Green Bay practice squad. The lead that was that farm league he was doing at arena football and then it gets. They lose out of nowhere and he, you know, he's a whole famer. There's a lot of guys like that. I think it's just, it's a lot about timing. And like I said earlier, I'm in my big rant about these young cats getting, you know, time to play and getting. And probably getting to get a lot of reps to show what they are is awesome. It is like, you know, it's like winning the power ball. You know, because now you have a chance to show that you are an NFL player, you deserve to be in this league or not. Again, or not, and it's good to happen early, you know, for these cats. So I'm excited for that. But it happens every year where a guy out of nowhere will also splash and get rolling and then once you get that confidence,

30:26you start playing a lot of. There's a lot of reps. When you do play, you do play. The second guess was a lot of confidence. That's time on task. And the defense going to happen. It's better to earn a good mix. You better better. But, you know, I have to play because of the stuff I can't be sure to do it this way. Oddly enough, I understood that Kyle after enough years of doing this and working. Nothing's I understood. The exact same. It was about time on task and things that help players become better. I'm going to get off and come back on. There we go. Go ahead, Z. Sorry, Z. Man, this is this is brutal. You get a guy like Jeff Skeneen. Sometimes these things happen. Usually it holds, right? Kyle and we'll get him back in here in a second. But I love what Z said about that because, you know, you're not always thinking that way. And I was talking about the three year window. You don't always know everything in that three year window. Let me just try this. How's that Z? Is that okay? Unfortunately, I can hear you. Here can you hear me?

31:26I can hear Kyle. Thank God. Okay. I'm not I would say we heard probably 92% of what you said. Yeah. And then the last sentence went up and smoke. And now you're both paused on me. But Bruce is just very blurry for me. So I don't. This is I let everybody in the chat know that we're having. And by the way, was that 92, a Jersey reference for Z, Z war number 92. If I remember with a couple teams, it's right. That's right. My first number in Miami and my number, that was my last number in Houston. Yep. 92. And you know, speaking of 92, God rest the soul of Reggie White, man, that dude, Z. I was watching some stuff on him. It just popped up and they tried to have Chris Carter peel around in motion and block him out of play. Do you guys remember that play where he just took him with one arm and threw him into war and moon? Oh my God, Reggie White was a savage. Do you have any rest stories? No, because I was on defense. You know, I mean, I love watching him play. I mean, he's a good man. You know, he was a big man, country strong man.

32:30I mean, you didn't mess with Reggie in the field. That dude was, he was different. You sure was, man. And then you played with Jason Taylor. He was different as well. By the way, you said happy birthday week to Zach and JT this week. A lot of history. Those guys came in together and the last time a young middle linebacker with this much promise was handed the keys to the defense. It was Zach Thomas. The last time we had a young receiver group like this that we were so excited about, although they didn't come in the same year, was the marks brothers and you might remember those guys. How about Sam Madison and Pat Sir 10 coming in together in the defensive backfield? I mean, there have been a lot of years Kyle where we were having these same, at least I was. You guys were, Z was playing and Kyle, you were a kid, I think at this point. But, um, man, when, when Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and Sam Madison and Pat Sir 10, oh man, if all these young guys can play, our defense can be good for a long time. And I think that worked out pretty well, Kyle. Yeah, lo and behold those guys all could play, right? Uh, and what Zach, Zach was a day three pick and Jason, Jason was the second or third rounder and

33:37what the corners, one of the two corners wasn't a first round pick. Was he, wasn't he was, I think Sir 10 was a two and Madison was a one of memory. Yeah. I think one of them was not a one. So, just guys get out there and play, right? And Jason, or Jason didn't take the world by storm is his rookie season. And it was kind of as he learned how to play within his body type, it really blew up for him. So, but this all is about and there's X number of snaps that are going to have to be played. As many of them as possible getting played by guys that could be long term answers for your team. Great. Just, just don't expect the on the field product if with all the flaws on the roster, they're not going to play in fallable football, right? There's going to be mistakes. There's going to be errors. There's going to be issues. There's going to be miscuse. There's probably going to be more points in yards allowed than you want to defensively. But you got to look at the individual guys and how they execute their individual assignments. And that's going to be lost on a lot of Sundays, I think, especially early,

34:40as these guys are learning to play how to learning how to play together. But that's the reality of playing football at a high level. It doesn't just fall into place. It's not like adding a 95 overall to your madden team and just put them in line up and off you go. Don't work like that. No, and Z out of all the guys we talked about a lot of rookies so far in the show. We got plenty of time left, but man, I'm excited. We got to take a quick break. It's what you can never give up on a young player, right? I mean, it was just it's not always right away for some of these guys. And Jonas Saviah and I am most offense fans would have said get him out of here after last year. And never think he's going to make it. Chop Robinson got a lot of people just, you know, not really happy with his performance, especially last year. But by all indications and, you know, camp doesn't make a season and preseason doesn't make anything. But by all indications, both guys are looking to make that big jump this year, especially chop. He's turned a lot of heads in camp. Yeah, I mean, we all want Chop to, you know, to get going because he was drafted to be the past russure. I used drafted to do some special things on the edge. And, you know, he played

40:54outside linebacker last year. This is rushed up during past downs and all that. But now he's a full-time D.N. So now we're going to see if this kid is why they drafted him in the first run. I know it's a different regime, but still though, you know, he was out there to cause havoc. And let's see what he can do. And by the night, you know, he now he's in his spot where he's more comfortable, you know. So we'll see. You know, they decided to go heavy on the old line this year. And to give this quarterback a chance, because that's who needs to take the biggest jump in my eyes. Because he's bounced on a little bit. He's still a young player. He's a young quarterback in rep wise. For me, that's the guy who I want to see take a huge jump for the steam. Because if he does, this team is set up for success a lot quicker than we're all expect because now we know the way it's a draft pick on a quarterback next year. And we have this kid with, you know, pretty decent money wise for the cap for the next few years. So we can also go out and get some players for around him and for this defense to get better faster. Yeah. And Kyle, well, we'll go right where Z

41:56took us on that one. Malik Willis, man, I've watched a lot of interviews with him. I've really gotten to know his personality. At least what he decides to let out. And just watching and I forget who was doing the interview. It's not even important. And I think a great interview is all about the interview. Anyway, so a great interview puts the focus on Malik Willis. And he was talking about how he only got three starts in Tennessee. And he's like, it wasn't even my system in college. I played completely different. I got three opportunities. And then they were like, you're done. And then all of a sudden, I don't even know if I have a career anymore. And I'm a backup. And I'm paraphrasing here. But, you know, he felt like he didn't get a real opportunity there in Tennessee. And he felt like he didn't get a shot to really take control and be the QB and the starter on that team. And then he goes to Green Bay. And he knows he's not going to be the starter. But he gets the opportunity. And he plays lights out. So he created this for himself and doing it right there in front of his new general manager and his new coach. It says so much that they took him with them and decided to give him $67 million to be the quarterback or 64 million or whatever it is with the Miami

42:57Dolphin. So a lot of insight from him. And he was asked how he changes now that he gets the money. And I think it was actually Michael Irvin maybe. I don't even remember. But he said, I'm not changing at all because I've seen too many guys. That's that's where things go wrong for people. I'm trying to stay grounded. And again, I'm paraphrasing and remain who I am as a person. And I'm happy to get this second shot because you never know if or when it's coming. And he's got it now. Yeah, he's had interviews with Jarvis Landry and Leonard Fornet. He had one with the pivot with Ryan Clark and Chan Cratter. Yeah, he's just one that you're talking about. Chan going out of him. Yep. See that bridge. How are you up Channing? Shout out Channing Cratter. I think the thing that stood out to most to me about that interview was Malik talking about how he doesn't really want the the female element of it, right? It's it's the competitiveness. It's the love of the game. It's the gift that he has and trying to go

43:58out and win. And you know, I think that's we've talked about what is it. What is Joe Rose called? The South Beach flu. Right guys coming South Beach. And like, and there was the whole glitz and glamour. The last edition of the team, right? It's a lot of big personalities, a lot of money, speed, sexy football, right? And it just kind of felt like you got off the rails. And it's that the main thing stopped being the main thing to a certain degree. So I have somebody who can give it or take it. And obviously you got to go out and you got to do it and you got to do it again and again and again and again and again and that'll never change. But for what Malik's been through with his college career and he talked about how he was a wide receiver because they brought in somebody else to be the quarterback and then he transferred and then he goes to Auburn and kind of the politics of of Bonyx coming in and his dad being an alumni and kind of writing was on the ball the wall that Bonyx was going to start him out of what. So he transfers the liberty and then he gives the Tennessee and you could tell very quickly that Mike Ravel like did not

45:01mess with Malik Willis like he was not interested in coaching him and helping him get better. He didn't want to deal with that. And then he's off the green bay and connects with the people that bring him to Miami like he's been through the ringer a little bit. And I everybody's different. But as I have done the draft stuff and I've evaluated by college quarterbacks and I've been doing that since 2013 like one thing that I've grown a great appreciation for is guys that are not silver spoon, five star, never had adversity kind of had your butt kiss since you were 15 years old at elite 11 and then you go to a college program and you throw in all these first round-water receivers and it's all glitz and glamour and that's no shade at two. A two had his own fair share of adversity at Alabama with the injuries and the hip injury and all that kind of stuff. Right. So I'm not talking specifically about two but just in general. Guys that have kind of been through it and they show you are, show you who they are through all of that stuff that they've been through to get to whatever opportunity you're thinking about give them. I think carries a lot of water. It carries a lot of weight. And certainly for Malik Willis,

46:07the journey that he's been on to get to this point, I have very little in the way of questions about what his personal makeup is and how he's going to approach attacking this opportunity. There's a lot to be said for getting an opportunity like this because as Kyle said, the the lack of faith or the lack of opportunity has kind of followed Malik Willis around Z and now he finally gets the shot. I mean it was college early in his NFL career and there were a lot of guys, many test of early Steve Deberg regardless of draft position or where they were over the years you talked about Kurt Warner who didn't get off to a great start in their NFL careers but got an opportunity later on and made the most of it but it's never been easy for this dude and I think I really like that about him. Z that's one of the things I like about him the most is that he's had the ability to bounce back not only land a contract like this in a position like this and to have a camp like this but to have an opportunity to really show what he can do and be the guy at least for an entire season and John Eric Sullivan has said we get a whole season to see if Malik Willis is our guy. He finally gets his chance. Yeah, I'm, again, I've been seasoned

47:12they won. I'm excited for this kid. I think he took a huge jump. That's why they drafted Proctor in the first round. They want to make sure they gave this guy every opportunity to have success back there. I know Proctor's a rookie but he still has a big dude in the line and he's going to take up space in there and protect this kid. You know they're going to have a good running game. They got a great running back you know to help him and they're going to give him every opportunity to go out there and perform at the highest level and I hope this kid takes it. The Higgsir Rains and runs with it because I think he's got a good shot. You know what he's shown so far last year and in that first drive this year I'm excited. Yeah and I think take the reins and runs with it as apropos for him because he's going to be doing a lot more running than any quarterback we've seen around here in a long time and I think it's cool. So see I want to ask you two real quick you mentioned Proctor in there and I want to just have you explain to our audience because some people don't know for sure and I have my thoughts Kyle has his but playing a rookie like that at guard instead of tackle. You know Mario Cristobal likes to say everybody they recruited for the offensive

48:13line at the University of Miami was a left tackle in high school so probably every offensive line we made the NFL for the most part with these are either a center or a left tackle in high school but what's the difference in slowing down the learning curve or or you know they say it's it's more of an easement into things when you start a guy at guard instead of tackle as a rookie like that. Well I'm guessing because when you're at guard you have the center and the tackle helping you out. I'm a majority of your run plays in in past plays when you're a tackle a left tackle or a right tackle you're on an island and you're going against one of the best athletes on the field in a true rush end you're going against a Miles Garrett that's a big task I know a guard you go against Aaron Donald now that he's back but you know but still though Miles Garrett what's his name guy can't think of his name now the green bag guy Parsons Parsons Parsons Parsons you're going to catch like that that's different now you have you know you help from running back or whatever but

49:15five six plays a game you're one I want to do and you're a rookie that could end your career you know mentally so put put him in guard easy to be confident you know it's got two good dudes next to them then know how to play some football you know and to help him to make the calls and get him on the right page and to have success because like I said earlier it's all about getting you know success and confidence to move forward and when you don't have confidence you start second guessing but he'll have confidence he'll and he'll mess up but he'll learn from it and you know those guys will help him get through it so to me it's an easy way to ooze them into it and maybe he's going to stay a guard you know and never go back out the tackle he could be an all pro guard and you know you could move him back out there I played against two guys that have done it you know Bruce Matthews he was an all pro at all five positions on the O'Line which is crazy that's true and then oh boy um god I can't remember names today my man who I read you through from Dallas he was an all pro guard and Larry on you know the guy all pro

50:18I think guard and tackle so you know the guys can do it but they may never move him out of there you never know you know and I hope they don't I hope he has huge success all rookie team at that position and he just keeps getting better and better yeah Ray Dawson Derek Canard guys who played Garden Center there's some guys have done that but Garden Tackle is different because it's two very different unique skillsets but don't get me wrong I mean I'm not hating on the guards as athletes because sometimes those pulls you got to be an athlete to get out there and make those blocks too yeah but I'm gonna tell you what the only time he wants to be playing Tackle it's contract because it's a big jump between the left tackle and a guard and payday now I'm not even right tackles are getting paid a lot because Elaine Lane Johnson is rewrote the book over there you know and but but still if you want to get a payday you you want to pay a tackle that's why I always tell people if you can move and you're you're a big dude go play go play left tackle and become a gazillion air well speaking of gazillionaires receivers are becoming gazillionaires now too and the NFL want to pick it up with Kyle on the other side quick break for the youtubers we wrap it up on the squad

52:23you know those guys were not super highly regarded and then you put Dupor a track guy on the field and all of a sudden you're watching the Redskins game in 84 and he takes a little 20 yard pass from marino and marino would always say give me some yack give me some yack and Dupor was the king of yack as a track star and you know you're looking at these young receivers and you're looking at Bell and you're looking at Coleman and you're looking at Douglas and he all throw Malik in there because he's not an old man although in this room he is but an opportunity for a young core at wide receiver with a new quarterback coming in a new system new coordinator and Bobby Slowick an absolute just I mean what do you even call this offensive line they're all enormous they're huge human beings every one of them and a lot of opportunities for these receivers you know Malik Willis is going to have some time back there he can he can add more time and create more with his feet so these receivers are going to get chances to get open and make plays man and it's been a long time at least maybe you can remember better than I can but it's been a long time since Dolphin fans have been this excited about a young group at receiver like this one. Well I couldn't

53:28tell you the last time ahead such a young group right it's three rookies it's a third year player Malik Washington and Ryan Miller made the team for his his work as a gunner and own special teams as the initial 53 goes and and Jalen tollbert's kind of like the the old head in the room so I think the good news for them is that they do have amidst all that youth they have an exceptionally well tenured wider searous coach in tight tollbert who's been in a bunch of different stops he's very well regarded Steve Smith senior just the other day called him one of the three best position coaches he's had in his entire NFL career and Steve's probably going to get a goldjack at some day so that kind of endorsement is huge and tollbert having been a 20 something year position coach at wide receiver and generally his entire NFL career has been in that role he hasn't been asked to elevate but like he was in Arizona when Ann Paulm Bolden first came in and got him performing at a really

54:28high level when he set the rookie receptions record that I think Jalen model broke that record as a rookie. Fitsy came in the next year after bulls. Yeah so great track record as a coach now all quickly it all comes together it's hard to say right but I would expect by about mid season you'll get more consistent play out of these guys you just hope you don't have drive killing miscues and if you do have mistakes you're able to overcome them but I think this offense will feel much more explosive even if it's not as consistent from down to down as what it's been during a lot of the better moments of the Mike McDaniel era I think your hope is you your your run down success on early downs keeps you on schedule offensively and when you find teams are overplaying that you take advantage of your athleticism a quarterback and this renew found size and athleticism on the edge and you you found some explosive plays with the play action pass if you could do that hit a couple explosives every game you're going to do yourself

55:30chance interesting too when you think about Jarvis Landry and Devonte Parker I guess maybe that was the last time people were this excited about young receivers McDuffee came in alone on the tail end of when they were bringing all those veterans in Chris Chambers came in alone the Marx brothers you know but for a young group and a NC at any position in the NFL to have guys like this three rookies at one position for any position group three rookies who have that much upside and that much potential at the same position at the same time coming in the same year I'm scrambling my brain trying to even think of when it's happened but it's just a rare thing to have this much youth and this much talent in one position group and to me I love the offensive line I can't wait to watch them I love the linebackers will be flying all over the field but maybe out of all those groups the receivers I don't I don't know if I'm most excited to see them or if they're the most intriguing or what word I'm searching for but they're right there for me to see what this young nucleus can do especially those rookies oh yeah they're gonna be exciting I mean they made some

56:32each one of them made a heck of a catch this year in preseason seems like every week one was being showcased and they're making these one-handed grabs and traffic and that's exciting so you know you put a lot into it like I heard Sully say or half say you know early on they're gonna get their reps and they're gonna grow and they're gonna learn and they're gonna mature quickly you know because they're gonna be out there and enjoy the time and that's exciting for this team again if they can put it all together two out of the three or it's all three it's great for this team for the future and you know I'm excited to get them out there and and only one of them listed as a starter right now on the depth chart Kyle Kale Douglas with you know Bell and Coleman behind them but you're looking at Malik Washington out there as a starter and and I know you've loved him and you've talked about having him in a different role this year than just a little dink and dunk that he got in the two offense you know and man it really is interesting to see with Tolbert listed as a starter as well and the three receiver set with Coleman and and Bell listed as backups with Ryan Miller but I think that these receivers are gonna get a lot of playing time and a lot of it you

57:36know you're you're always looking at the routes you're always looking at the yards after catch you're looking at the catches in traffic we've seen it from all three guys as he said but also it's I think a lot of it's gonna be dictated because half leaves said it in almost every interview he's done Kyle how are they gonna block that's gonna be a huge key for these guys coming into the league is how are they gonna assimilate into the run game and block on the outside I am cautiously skeptical of the depth chart and the true packing order of some of those wider receivers when it comes down to play against the Las Vegas Raiders here in in ten days so we'll see but I think both of those bigger body guys you know Chris Bell and Caleb Douglas you think you've seen both of them and you can go back to some of their college tape and the demeanor that they bring when they don't have the ball and I think there's a fine art to that and guys that have the right attitude without the football to help create explosive plays in the run game and the way that everybody benefits from that there's certainly built to be impactful players I think Chris obviously has the kind of

59:39guy who helped you in the run game and it felt like a lot of his blocking assignments he's in motion at the snap and I just was didn't felt like kind of an awkward fit for him and what he was best equipped to do but they didn't really have anybody else besides to be able to do it so it's like okay you look at a roster composition you can you get the usage of that player and you ask questions on both ends of it yeah and and Z to have those big guys Bell and Douglas in the red zone I mean Douglas is 64 and runs for three-ish I mean that's insane that's potential superstar material right there but just to have the bigger targets in the red zone we were talking about this all year last year you have dulcich and you're looking for him to take a big leak as you're tied in Kazmarik to maybe catch a few more passes than he did at Ohio State but to have those two big receivers in the red zone Z that's crucial too for any offense because it gets so much harder to score when you're packed inside that 20 oh without a doubt I mean he's be able to muscle balls away from everybody you know Bellhead did knock out you know his first game back you know the last preseason game when he's gonna learn to be able to hold on that ball catch up in traffic you know

1:01:44seen thus far for Caleb is he's been way far ahead of schedule from what I thought he would be getting off press coverage of the line scrimmage we'll see what that looks like in the regular season how he attacks the football he feels like he's been dramatically different and more effective there so I give Caleb Douglas a lot of credit for whatever he's been working on versus what the tape that he showed at Texas Tech as much as when training camp started I said hey you know this this guy's the most prolific player that we have out there a wide receiver when they drafted and I had a lot of questions and you know there's nothing I love more than being skeptical about a player and I'm wrong right like when your job is to have an opinion on everything you're gonna be wrong about some stuff and as long as you have good process about it and you don't have an ego about it then that's all you can do and that's why I'm always open and open-minded for these guys because some of the guys that I have been skeptical about have turned out to be some of the better players now is everybody work out like that what a lucky world I'd be skeptical about everybody and I use that superpower and we'd have an all-pro whatever position but so credit to Caleb because I

1:02:50think he has he's ahead of where I thought he would be probably by a year or two right now yeah and and the second you saw him on the Dolphins field though is when you had him Kyle give yourself more credit than that I mean from the second you saw him you said he's gonna be a guy and 64 running a 4-3 ish 40 is pretty freakish so we'll keep our eyes on receivers and before we wrap it up let's each give a guy who we think you know is gonna have the best breakout year for any of those young one through three years one through three players but see I can't let this show go and end without asking you about the defensive line man I you know what this is maybe the biggest question mark on the team the D line in the secondary flip a coin which is the biggest question mark on the team right now but I think the question mark for me is not so much the players they have although that's a question mark for some people you don't know what chop's gonna do you know but to me it's been more the injuries and you know what you're gonna get from Zach Sealer but you want the other guys to be out there playing with him you want to grant and bigger to get a lot more reps in camp and in the preseason joint practices and things like that and and then obviously you know

1:03:52Phillips is high praise from halfly so just want to get your thoughts on those young guys on the defensive line and the chance that they have to make an impact well I think that a great chance I mean it showed how you know how it was built or seen to be were young in the interior were young on the outside we don't we're still looking for another Russian outside of chop you know we're assuming chop's gonna be the man and everything he's done so far and what we've seen and heard out of training camp he's been doing what he's supposed to be doing but again just trying to find someone on the other side is the mystery interior wise I think we have four or five guys that are solid and then they they brought another veteran in you know on the practice squad Mazi Smith you know came into the fold that I was I coached him in Dallas that one year he's a guy that's still trying to find a home trying to find a place in this league kind of like how we were talking about earlier he's still he's bounced around on his third team so we'll see what he can bring into the mix once he gets up to speed and then they brought Cecil Farrow back you know and he's kind of been bouncing around a journeyman top five pick at one point in his career so maybe he

1:06:00NFL I really do I think with his build his wrestling background his frame his power his leverage at the point of attack that he showcased as a rookie the field that you're hoping he gets more in year two the he's only 21 years old like that's the kind of guy I would really love to see kind of go on to have that crease like you were talking about 10 15 year career ideally most of it in Miami as a guy who is an elite role player at the the role that he has to fill within a defense that maybe he's never going to command top five money at his respective position amongst defensive tackles but there's plenty of examples of guys that have been plugs in the middle that have made life a lot easier for linebackers playing behind him and especially with how Jeff Hathley once to have athletic backers to play in space I think Phillips is the one for me that if I had to bet on somebody being an upper perceived as an upper echelon player that really is not anywhere near that conversation right now that's off this roster for young guys for going in the next year
