draft talk.

We kind of talked about it on the main show a little bit, but let's just dive in here.

I'm Chris Clark from cheese corn, that's Matt Derek from Chiefs Digest and Ryan Tracy

from March year of football in about 33 and rogue analytics.

I want to dive into wide receiver and defensive end really quick because at this point, chiefs

of address, two of their big needs, in my opinion, they got a defensive tackle, they

got well, three of their defensive needs or three needs tackle safety and the running

back position and you brought back Tykel and Thornton, but I don't think that precludes

them from looking at a draft position at nine or even 29 for that matter to look at

wide receiver.

What do you think, Matt?

Yeah.

I mean, wide receiver, they've addressed a little bit with Tykel on, but you still have

a lot of questions in your top three guys, and that's including Jason Royles is one

of those three that's returning who didn't get any playing time essentially last year.

So you've got some things to figure out.

There was rice and worthy as well.

So I still think that's a need and defensive line.

Let's face it, the chiefs are going to have four or five new faces on that defensive line.

They've only signed one guy.

So there's still a lot of bodies that they need there.

And even with a low high gillment coming in, he has been a rotational piece in the past.

So even as a veteran, so you still need to account for probably about maybe two thirds

of your snaps at defensive tackle next to Chris Jones and Omar Norman lot if and when

he returns.

So yeah, they've still got needs at tackle and defensive end.

I think it's, it's a real possibility that we see one of each go now.

I think the whole signing of Kyra's tongue makes, makes a lot of sense.

A guy that's got some juice can play the nose, can give you a little bit of past rush.

But yeah, I just realized I said a low high gillment, but I'm connected to the dots here.

It's fine.

It's fine.

No straight for the other people this week.

But you'll be not going to give it to tackle.

No, but it'd be interesting to watch.

He can hit that a gap and we find what I'm interested though is Kyra's talking, he can

give you a little past rush a little bit, but he's a first and second down player for

the most part.

And that's perfectly fine.

But I do think that there's now a thing that this tells me maybe nine was never in for defensive

tackle.

And a lot of people thought that that might be a safety role if the edges were gone.

I thought it was more optimum at 29 and 40, maybe not even there now.

With Tonga as a starter, with Omar being in the wings, I think a past rush specific defensive

tackle that you can get in the third round, maybe lower is on the table now, guys like

Grayson Holtton, I keep coming back to him as a value DT, they could play a role, not

a starting role on this roster, something like that.

Matt, do you think that they want to go to a specified role for some of these defensive

linemen in order to get a rotation more so that everybody's a little fresher and you're

not relying on the same couple of guys?

Yeah, I mean, let's face it, you know, last year as far as essentially nose tackle type

defensive tackles, I mean, the chiefs only had two by and large, I mean, I guess you

could, you know, besides when you're bringing back Mike Pennell midway through the season

and I'm getting, you know, Derrick Naughty just days before the beginning of the season.

I mean, they had Marlon Tui Paluto, I guess you're the other guy on the practice squad

that you could mention, but if the chiefs weren't willing to go to the Tui Paluto last year,

you know, I mean, I think it says a lot of map where they are.

So, you know, they need, they need more than one.

I mean, it can't just be Tongue is the only guy that they bring in to play nose tackle.

They need more than that.

Now is there anybody that's, you know, makes sense at nine?

Not sure.

29, probably a lot more since, you know, at nine though, I mean, I, I, I, I certainly

get the sense that the dream is Rubin Bane, that he falls to nine.

I, I think the chiefs might even entertain trying to move up if they thought that it meant,

they can only go so far, like they're going to move on to the top five to try and get Bane.

But if they thought that they could maybe move a spot or two to get him,

I think they'd be willing to consider it.

But at 29, a lot of things come into play.

I mean, it could be defensive tackle.

It could be offensive tackle.

It could be a non-premium position.

I've, I have some of the bigger names in this year's draft fall down.

Non-premium positions is interesting because that is actually going to lead us

exactly where I want to talk about next.

And we're going to talk about the tight end room and what could possibly be looked at at number

nine here in just a moment.

All right, you talked about some non-premium positions, Matt.

And you made a great point about it's possible that there could be some guys.

One of the guys there that could be available to sunny styles.

That's a non-premium position.

But we're going to talk about the tight ends right now because yes,

the chiefs brought back Travis Kelsey, but I have to wonder.

And I was actually talking to one of my buddies today about this.

Is it possible that the chiefs could be looking at a guy like Cedeque at nine

or maybe they look at it and say, okay, nobody's there that we really want.

Maybe you trade back to a team like Dallas and take Cedeque a little bit later.

Yeah, you know, the only thing that makes me really wonder about the tight ends,

but in how early the chiefs could go there because I mean, let's face it,

they they need an heir apparent for Travis Kelsey.

And it's not bless his heart, Noah Gray.

I mean, Noah Gray is a nice niche tied in.

But they have other needs too at that spot.

I mean, especially if they're going to continue to play without a fullback,

they could use a third tied in that is a block first kind of guy, which they have a fullback.

No, right, right.

City here looking at it.

Like, talk is going to be their guy.

Sorry.

I knew what Ryan was thinking when we started looking at you like that.

He was giving you the side.

I'm at.

Okay.

Let's let's say a block first tied in with a little bit more upside to catch the football.

You know, a ram's kind of tied in.

They need they need some different flavors there as Andy Reed would say at tied in.

And then you obviously, you've got to assume that this is the last year for Travis Kelsey.

I can't I mean, this is probably under the rodeo.

I mean, if you told me he's going to play two more years,

I would look, I would also give you the side.

I just don't think it's going to happen.

But, you know, who says we're a parent?

I mean, could it be Jared Wiley?

I actually liked what he did coming back last year from the ACL,

but, you know, there's still a lot to prove.

Could it be Jake Brainingstool?

We never got to see him at all, complete and total red shirt.

And like the exactly, I mean, you're crossing your fingers on what he could be.

So there's the chiefs with those four guys,

which at this point appear to be, you know, candidates for this roster.

I don't, doesn't that look like at this point?

No grays going anywhere.

So do you have, you know, opportunity to shove a fifth guy in there?

I mean, you might for OTAs because I doubt that Travis will be around much again this year

for offseason workouts.

So maybe there's a spot you could get in there.

But then again, you're probably not going to have your, you're not,

you're definitely not going to have your quarterback for OTAs.

So that mitigates a little bit of that, you know, opportunity to get and see

who homes could work with well.

But let's, hey, if there is a tight end that is six, five plus good size, good athleticism,

that's who you're going to be interested in.

I just don't know how deep the well is at that spot, at that size for this year's draft

because no, getting another six, three, six, four tight end, that's not what you're having.

That's not what Patrick Ohm's needs.

I think that the problem is is those guys don't grow on trees anymore.

And it's more and more difficult to get somebody.

I agree to you.

I think Brittany still still has the upside.

I worry about widely after the injury.

I'm not sure he's ever going to hit that point.

And the true heir apparent has to be a physical enough specimen to do and learn some

of the things Travis has to teach.

And so for me, there's really only two options here.

If you're going to get someone that you think you can pass the door to and that is to

be and the other guys he likes towers that has the athleticism, but maybe not the experience.

He is only 604 too, I think.

So a little bit to your to your point, Matt, under your threshold, I still think it's

viable because of the way that he can move and he can do some things that others can't.

And that for me at that position, if you're not going to have an expert route runner and

a guy that is like mentally inside by most of the time, you have to have the athleticism

to be able to match Patrick.

And so those are the two guys that I would look at the most.

There's some other guys like day three, you know, trig injuries.

There's even a cozy I like him too, but none of them have the upsides to be able to keep

pace and maybe take the baton from Travis.

And so that's what stands out about this year's draft class that tied in Ryan is that,

you know, you get Kenyansse Deek, you get Stowers, which looks like a consensus second

rounder.

And then it's a drop off, you know.

And now granted, hey, Travis Kelsey was first pick of the third round again, then again,

it was also there for some red flags, wasn't kicked off the team and had some red flags.

He's probably minimum early second, if not late first.

So you got kind of a bargain there by taking a chance on a guy.

So I'm not sure there's that kind of guy that you can take a chance on in the third or

fourth thing.

And hey, this is going to be the next Travis Kelsey.

Well, I will say this, and I have to ask this question to you Ryan before we go, would

you, if the chiefs don't have any, if Baines gone, if Downs is gone, your wide receivers

are gone, would you consider taking Stedeek at nine if you can't get a decent trade back

option?

Because he might be the best option available at that point at a position that they desperately

need to fill because they do need to give home somebody to be that heir apparent.

And one thing I do like about the Kelsey situation, sorry, is that they brought him back.

He has the ability to potentially teach Stedeek or another tight end in that role by playing

this season.

It would be tempting.

He and Sonny styles are the two guys that I project to be there if the chiefs do lose

out on the premium positions.

And that's going to come down because Stiles is a freak as well.

I would try to produce that trade back to 12 with the Cowboys or 13 go back to less

and be like, hey, by the way, I'll give you nine.

Come on, you got to do something with some pick, dude.

But I would be targeting those two guys or I would look just hours at 40.

I think he's going to be viable at that.
