Part of here is cool. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Dragmat brought to you by Chesterfield. This is the best, Chesterfield, and the time to change today.
You're a detective sergeant. You assign the burglary detail.
You get a call. We need a fire inspector at a burned-out home.
The reason to believe the fire was started by a burglary. Your job is investigation.
Dragmat, the documented drama of an actual crime.
For the next 30 minutes, then, to operation with the law scientist Police Department,
you will travel step by step on the side of the law to an actual case
and strive for the official police fire. From beginning to end, from crime to punishment.
Dragmat is the story of your police force and action.
It was Wednesday, November 4th, with Kool and Los Angeles.
We're working tonight. Watch out the burglary detail. My heart and strength
met the box of Camembernot, my own study.
We're on our way out from the office with 912 Camembernot.
We've got the 26-07 West Dippie Street. The scene of the fire.
No time here. Just five months in and the back of the house.
That's the way of looking.
Hi, Joe.
Hi, Tom. You know my partner, Frank.
It's like you're straight up in the fire department.
Hi, Frank.
Been some time since we were together, Joe.
Yeah, over a year, innit? Yeah, about that.
I only got four six times, Frank.
Easy to show you. Come on back.
Most of the damage is in the bedroom. Starts in the closet.
Yeah.
Get burned through the next room, though.
Little girl's bedroom.
Mm-hmm.
Here we are.
Yeah.
Burn bad, huh?
It could have been a lot worse.
Neighbors saw the flames through the window.
Must have seen the right away. She called us in the engine company.
Got a lot before the whole house was gathered.
Was it the place last when they got here?
Yeah. I had to break through the back door, again, engine.
All right, then where do we fit it?
Well, we're pretty certain the fire was started deliberately.
I was checking. I noticed the window had been tampered with.
Come here, I'll show you what I mean.
See the lock?
Yeah.
Looks like it was four, doesn't it?
See here?
Screws are pulled right out of the fridge.
Yeah.
Glass is cracked, too.
Mm-hmm.
Can't your boy's mind done this?
No, I checked that angle.
The only place they tried is the back door.
Mm-hmm.
Was the window open when you first thought that?
Yeah.
It's like it is now.
Yeah, it's about minutes.
Right.
Yeah.
And he's marching around the cell.
Uh-huh.
Probably made it when it was four, sir.
Better get the lab out here, I guess.
Yeah, I guess.
For once in a five-room near the table.
Thank you, sir.
You been in my contact the other time?
Yeah.
It was with his wife and little girl.
Got here just about the time they had the fire out.
Took the wife and kid over to such a place for the night.
Well, did he know if anything had been stolen?
Didn't I spoil that?
He said he'd come back since he could.
Are you got any ideas?
Yeah, sir.
Well, I'm sure the fire was bad.
It might be an injury.
Maybe a fire on the X.
Steve's trying to cover something.
Am I fast?
Is my fire going to fire this Friday?
I do, sir.
Oh, yes, sir.
And you met Inspector Strader.
Yes, sir.
How are you?
All right.
Go back as soon as I could.
The Western daughter pretty upset.
We understand, sir.
She didn't think about it tonight that she will tomorrow.
Now, I'll be in for it.
How's that, sir?
About the insurance.
What about the insurance?
Well, I don't have any.
I can hear you now.
She'll be up one side and down the other.
You don't have any financials on the half at all.
That's right.
How about personal property?
Mm-hmm.
No.
Well, it's been asking me to take some out.
Maybe I would have, but you wanted me to get it from a brother-in-law.
Maybe I would have.
But you never saw it.
If you're one way guy, I always look in the front of his own mess.
You know the time.
Yeah.
Like I was planting the kids' room, you know.
They could give me a hand.
Are you better?
So what happens?
They got no insurance.
No, look to tap.
We'd like you to do something for us if you would.
Sure thing.
As long as it doesn't cost me.
It's going to put me in the hole.
But good.
And what is it?
Would you check around with me if any personal items are missing here?
You mean stolen?
Yes, that's right.
Do you think someone broke in and stole something and set the fire?
Oh, well, that's sure.
You've got one to help him.
Oh, boy, that's all I need.
A fire with no insurance.
And a rob with no insurance.
My wife's brother-in-law won't ever get off my back.
And my wife.
Would you check for us?
Yeah, sure thing.
Thank you.
I'm off in here.
Take some of my jewelry.
And once he had it, it was in the toolbox.
Well, you wouldn't touch it, though.
What's that?
I'll open it.
Don't mind.
Well, it's empty.
Well, he's gone.
Was it pretty expensive?
Well, it didn't cost much if that's what you mean.
Uh-huh.
Most of the time, it was jewelry.
So, what was in here, though?
She forgot it tonight.
Went over the transfer of this to Gwinda shopping.
And I remember her mentioning she left it here.
You think anything else is living in here?
Uh-huh.
I don't think so.
Maybe my wife's close in the closet.
And the way that looks, I don't get you to tell much.
What do you think, tell?
Well, I can give it a preliminary check.
Or they're going through the rest of the house.
I don't know.
All right.
Oh, yes, sir.
All right.
Well, what a night.
I wanted to steal something and pick a place
that had stuff worth lifting.
Here's the kitchen.
Oh, look at the mess in here.
I just explained it last week.
Look at it.
Dolls, books, all burnt.
Well, kids, so that's the night.
Just try to rise up.
I don't know.
Guy didn't do this much.
I had a head full of rocks.
Yeah.
Christmas ain't far off.
I don't know how.
But I'll see to it.
I don't know if he gets dolls and books.
Night ones, furniture and these were.
Mm-hmm.
Wasn't anything in there.
He's sick.
No, I'm sick to catch him.
You know.
Right off, I can see you made this for the radio.
I have a little portable in the shop over there.
Life, life, life, listen.
The daytime program's all she's working on.
Something more planned for Christmas.
What if you have a studio in the middle of the radio, baby, for?
Uh-uh.
I'd never pay any attention to things like that.
Anyway, I got a second hand.
I wasn't with much.
It plays good, though.
Mmm-hmm.
I think it's good luck, you know, it's anything else, don't you?
Uh-huh. Right off hand.
Hey, see, it's all about a beer.
I'm not that stolen, too.
No, I don't like it.
Well, I like really judges.
What's that say?
Hey, size it off good.
He stole a hand.
What?
A hand where he's close to us and saving it for Thanksgiving.
And that goes a big dinner, my wife, for him.
Well, I guess it's all right, I mean, laugh about it, huh?
Yeah, I was just thinking,
maybe I'll have to laugh last time I wife, brother.
What's that? He was coming to dinner.
The first examination of the kitchen showed that about twenty pounds of food been taken.
Angus, tass, looks to the rest of the house,
but he said he didn't think anything else was missing.
At the time, the trader said he was fairly sure there were no clothes in the closet when it burned.
Men's and the crime lab performed out in the pictures of the windows,
but also at the place of origin of the fire.
A D.T.L. from Lincoln-Princess checked the house.
Frank and I questioned people in the neighborhood,
but none of them had seen or heard anyone around the tap house
before the fire started.
Infectors straighter said he would notify our office
of all similar house fire.
The next night, we got a report from Lincoln-Princess.
They said the Prince they lifted from the tap home
belonged to members of the family.
Ray-Pincess can't word over from the crime lab
that the march from a window felled
and made by a half inch pry bar.
On November 10th, we got another call from Infectors straighter
and we went up to 27-25 West 49th Street.
By 10-25 pm, we had completed our inspection
of the burned interior of the house
and we talked to the owner.
There's pretty much nothing to ask for.
We'll find more damage this time, though.
Yeah.
It's going to look for a different fire site of this house,
uh-huh.
Three minutes each, bedroom window.
The door of the article is just about to fail, huh?
I don't get that fight.
How's that fight?
It's about to start.
On my side, is it?
It's about to be really closed, food, portable radio.
Mm-hmm.
You think anyone that goes out on the limb like this
is trying to make it worth its while?
Nothing much, we can check the usual structures for it.
Mm-hmm.
One thing that might help us, we don't have.
What's that, Joe?
Serial numbers.
Well, people could just get us a number on the radio.
Others don't want property.
We'd have something definite to look for.
I know it's a lot to ask, but if they could just do that.
In fact, what do you estimate the fire off to be here?
A couple thousand dollars.
Uh-huh.
I hope the crime lab, though, makes an attention
to come up with a lead to give your fellow something concrete to work with.
With your hair time.
What do you think, Joe?
Same person?
Mm-hmm.
It might be too early to say.
But the fires are in the same neighborhood.
Similar M.O.
The chances of death are just the same one yet.
Uh-huh.
Keeps up.
Somebody's alive.
We got hurt.
We haven't got too much to go on.
Oh, we've got a place to start.
Huh?
We know he's got some matches.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
If I can add questions on average, but we fail to get any useful information,
like and print for runners when it comes up with anything.
The crime lab reported the window had been forced by a one-half inch pry bar.
Within the next three weeks, despite our efforts,
six more fires and burglaries occurred.
In each case, the same M.O. was used.
We had sent teletypes to C.I.I. and all points requesting information
on any person who had used the same M.O.
The staff office is not in line.
No an arsonist would check.
Pawn cops and second-hand stores were notified
that we still had no definite lead at the identity of the arsonist burglary.
We started a thin map to see if a directional trend was developed.
8.77pm, Wednesday, December 2nd.
We were checking the map with Sergeant Rex Olson.
And a new deal?
Well, we've had a few burglaries further west,
up in here, but no fire.
How about the M.O.?
Same bedroom window entry, same type article stolen.
You know this operator's really awake.
Take a look at this list of items that have been taken.
Dog food, baby clothes, golf balls, tennis balls,
camping equipment, and a phone address.
That's quite uncertain.
Tennis balls were nationaled, I think, by the owner.
He said he could have done a fine.
Details have been taken playgrounds for him.
I guess you pretty well covered it behind you, then.
Yeah, that's true.
And that's true.
And the fire department had been on stake out in areas
where fires have occurred.
They've run down a lot of leads,
but we haven't come up with anything to date.
You know how about friends?
No.
How many will give us any positive?
I guess you're switching M.O. something to be thankful for them.
Well, the guy is still out breathing the phone as we do.
Yeah.
I know about it.
You bet you're doing your best.
You can't ask him more.
If you talk to some of these families that have been burned out,
we'll share which he couldn't.
Yeah, I know how you feel.
The guy hasn't clarified that in one final hour.
He said as many as six in one place.
Look at those red pins.
Uh-huh.
How good.
But do we open?
Uh-huh.
What's that address?
1904.
What's 56?
Right.
The other with me now.
Yeah.
The boys were here, the others.
Right.
Anything else?
Yeah, another red pen.
We drove out to the address on 50th Street.
Why the other homes hit by the arsonist,
the boys there was a small one-story house.
Inspector Spader showed us where five fires had been started.
The main damage was in the rear of the building.
Once it's been made through a bedroom window,
we call the crime lab and latent friends.
The owner, a Mr. Clinton base, arrived and checked the missing property.
1027-1.
We call him to the living room.
Well, not all parents say nothing was missing in here.
Well, it's possible he just didn't pay all those financials.
Why'd he say that, Sergeant?
Well, no fire was started in here.
Now, we found another home.
The birds are usually stuck to fire in a room where he takes off.
Let me see.
The rest of the base.
Yeah.
The last time you said it was a little.
I guess my wife, for a birthday, was monogrammed L.C.B.
and gold letters.
Wasn't really sent to L.C.B.
In fact, nothing that was taken was at too much value.
Why should a person go to the trouble of breaking a house
with the old comic books?
It doesn't make sense.
And like you said, your daughter's loans were written on the books.
Yeah, my wife always writes her name's Carol Adams.
You know how kids create them back in 14th?
My daughter takes after a mother and never wants to throw anything away.
I've had over 100 comic books.
I think there's a lot of times I wish he had taken.
Then just like the hot blade works without setting the fire.
I'm not selling them to the store.
Not about the coins that were taken.
Yeah.
This is the first time that any money has been stolen.
But what did he take?
About $2 worth of coins.
Now, much to help you there, is it?
Yes, there's a might be.
There are American coins that can be spent.
Well, the fact that they're old, they'll give it to leave
if somebody tries to spend it.
Mm-hmm.
And it belongs to that, isn't it?
Yes, there may be.
But this person hasn't given it much choice.
I don't think he could give us the date from the coin.
Well, I can't put my wife maybe able to.
They've longer heard.
Like I told you, she never gets to leave anything.
Mm-hmm.
She got in from an ass couple of three weeks ago.
I told her that it's been said,
well, there might be worth more than just the regular value of all four.
So if she took him to some shop, you know,
where they handle old money.
Man, I told her they wouldn't demand only worth it.
And they go to die and whatever it was.
I need a chance to figure out one day
that she wouldn't give them to me.
Anything else you can enjoy?
Well, you can see the jumps around.
Yes.
Who could get those dates for?
Well, it's fine, but like I said,
if the person that did this
would just forget about the firefighters,
kind of like everybody else,
you'd have been doing me a big favor.
Awesome, but they don't have that in mind.
Really?
To help anybody.
We got the description in the date of the coin from Mrs. David.
All officers were given the information.
From our pin map,
we figured our suspect might live in a similar on street
and run it out of it.
We spent several days contacting all the businesses
in that vicinity,
letting them get each donor a complete description of the coin.
We asked them to get the license number
or address of any person that might pass them
and the call has got away.
In the meantime,
Lincoln print sent words from the window led
just to home of the last surgery in five
if they had lifted several green prints.
Five days went by.
Monday, December 7th.
The start of the call is regarding the call.
Frank Hydro after the corner of similar on street
in 43rd place,
a small neighborhood variety store.
What are you doing?
What are you talking about?
Are you mad?
Yes, Frank.
We ran to see you the other day.
Oh!
A good name until I get my glasses on.
I try a new glass cleaner on them just before you told me
and I don't see much, but I don't know anymore.
Yes.
Oh, sure.
You know I remember you.
You told me in about the way of money.
Yes, ma'am.
That's that. We got your call.
Well, it's a good thing.
I had my glasses on about an hour ago.
What do you mean, ma'am?
When I got those coins,
other guys know that I wouldn't have noticed.
When you took in some money off,
I'm going to skip them with you every day.
If there's a customer this morning,
I guess maybe that's why I took the picture I noticed.
I'll call the number on the card you gave me right away.
It's very popular with you, ma'am.
I only do my duty as I see it.
You know, ma'am, I'm going to pull them down
as you said you can ask you.
It's my job to help you.
Any way I can.
Yes, ma'am.
Now, what if we might see the coins?
Okay, ma'am.
See, I'll get them for you.
Thank you.
When I saw this, they were that old money.
That's what you're talking about.
I just remember them in the register.
I don't know.
I popped them under the slide back.
I keep seeing them see.
They're glad that they don't matter.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I didn't want to be such your fingers.
I think they've got blood poisoning.
Mm-hmm.
Got that list, ma'am.
Yes, ma'am.
Thank you.
There you go.
Do they have the ones in the freezer?
Yes, ma'am.
Yes, ma'am.
Yes, ma'am.
Oh, hi, ma'am.
Oh, hi, ma'am.
That gives me a weird time, too, ma'am.
I thought that's been a good good for the better.
Now you have, ma'am.
Now maybe you can help us even more.
And tell us about the person that gave it to you.
Oh, see, bossy.
I tell you, ma'am.
I think something I don't quite understand.
What's that, ma'am?
I thought you could mention it generally looking for you.
You're a bad, ma'am.
No, not always.
What?
That's the things wrong.
You can smell that things, ma'am.
Could it be the one you want?
What do you say, ma'am?
It was a little girl about nine years old.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Ah...
Ah...
Ah...
Ah...
Ah...
Everland, coolie the Ona told us that when the little girl had left
she'd followed her to a house about three blocks away.
We gave her a receipt for the coins and drove over to $22.60 million
43rd place, the address he'd given it.
Frank Gross passed the house slowly,
and we saw an 1840 swimmer's sedan parked in the driveway.
On the second trip, I got the license number of the vehicle.
We called the office, and they sent out another tune
to stake out the place.
We went back to the office and called the EMV.
They gave us an in-linden dringer, as a legal owner.
We kept an inch to our eye, and found
that he had five arrests for burglary as a juvenile.
We called latent prints, and asked Sam to test the fingerprint
found at the house on 50th Street.
1037 EMV.
When they got a call, did they have time to check them thoroughly,
I guess?
I was just thinking, girl, what happened to things
that isn't our boy?
Well, I guess it's kind of easy to figure, don't you, don't you?
Huh?
Sure.
Find out where the girl got the carton.
Yeah, I was thinking about that.
You know what that should mean?
More footwork.
I'm telling you, girl, I haven't put on so many milestones.
I work traffic.
You don't have to tell me.
What do you mean?
Always my oldies don't know.
Oh, yeah.
I was really, remember?
I know, girl, but after all, I'm carrying a few more pounds
than you are.
That is correct.
It makes a big difference.
You know how it is when you go deer hunting?
Not to think I don't, I never go.
Well, when you're carrying a rifle, never carry one.
Well, when you go deer hunting, then you do carry a rifle.
If you start out in the morning, a rifle doesn't weigh much at all.
It doesn't.
No, at least it doesn't feel so heavy,
but along the end of the day.
And those few pounds feel like 20.
That's the way it is.
The extra pounds I carry around.
Mm-hmm.
Very, very tight.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
I think.
On two of them.
Mm.
Good.
Five.
Thank you.
Five, two pounds?
Yeah.
Granger's Prince.
They made him on the last job.
The fact that Granger's Prince tied him in with a last fire
burgery was enough to get a complaint.
But we wanted an airtight case.
We decided to follow the suspect that night.
Another team that set out to release a stake out on his home.
When Granger left the house at 8.09 p.m., Frank and I were behind him.
The other team remained at the house.
We followed them for about an hour, 9.13 p.m.
Great job.
Look with him.
Nice.
We better take him away from home before he was right.
We have to get him home, sorry.
Yeah.
It's going down.
I'll pull over.
Stop.
Get him?
Yeah.
Yeah, looks like another twist in his operation.
He going from that car?
Come on.
What do you think?
Should you see?
I'm going to deliver him over sometime.
Come on, let's get him back.
All right, they did it.
Don't put it in the air.
Please don't.
Make it run for it, all right.
Let's get him to that car.
Come on.
Right out of the car, baby, just come on, move.
Come on.
Come on, get out.
Fast.
Hands over your head.
Right there.
Keep your hands up.
All right.
Did you say police officers are on?
Yeah, all right.
If you have time, get back home.
Well, I didn't hear you too good.
I wouldn't have taken off by knowing you was caught.
That's the truth.
If I were you, I'd believe that.
That's all.
Well, I'm just going to feel terrible if you guys don't believe me.
Well, that's too bad.
Huh?
We don't.
Huh?
Huh?
Huh?
Good question.
Granger, but he refused to admit any knowledge
of the burglaries or the fires.
We met the other two months ago.
No cousin in the custody while we went in the car.
She was once.
We identified ourselves.
You told us to come in.
Shut up, Watson.
Shut up.
Don't worry about him.
He won't fight.
Talk no good for anything except that he can sleep.
I know why he didn't take him with him tonight.
What's down there?
My husband goes out just about every night.
Take the dog with him.
Not tonight.
He doesn't remember.
Does anybody often talk to you?
Huh?
Are you alone here?
Yeah.
That's enough.
Why?
When you don't mind if we look around, do you?
That's the police room?
We have to get out.
You have to.
I don't know.
Nobody go ahead.
I'll get you.
Okay.
Do you want to sit down with Granger?
Why?
You got to be here first, go.
That's everything.
We have to ask him.
Hi.
What are you asking?
What are you asking?
What kind of work did you have to do?
The window work.
What was his employer?
Nobody.
What have you worked for a business in ten of any time?
You mean like a star?
That's right.
Yeah.
But he watches one of the people, too.
You know what happens?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Founded some address in the bedroom.
Hey.
Why didn't you run my person?
It was born to you.
Right.
You got it out of my room, didn't you?
Where did you get it?
My husband.
Did he say where he got it?
Yeah.
All night market.
How about these initials here?
L.C.B.?
Well, that's what I got to see.
You said they were closing them up.
You don't even go out every night, don't you?
Yeah.
Have you brought everything to home from this same market?
Well, yes.
Just tell us, Abby.
Yeah.
What?
Something wrong?
Do something?
What other things did he bring home?
Nothing.
I'll tell you.
It would be a lot better if he told us the truth.
How about why?
I think you had minutes by home.
I thought there was something wrong,
but he said he got him at the market.
Did he steal him?
We think we did now.
Thanks, Sam.
Things do die.
I was thinking of a person, man.
It's funny to spend money like that.
He doesn't think that much of him.
What's that?
He thinks more of that dog than he does in me.
He made a person on the next day,
but most of it unsports him.
How's that?
It's a dog.
He put most of the person on the dog.
He got caught and he took snores.
Look at that color.
Great, isn't it?
All zero.
Better get him to steal a lot.
Not for his dogs.
What else did he bring home?
Food, clothes, magazines, all kinds of things.
Where are they?
Food we ate.
That's the stuff.
I don't know if it's yours.
Some of it's in a garage.
Do you want to show it?
No, all right.
We've got the prop door.
It's cool.
Do you have any children, Mr. Major?
No.
We don't.
You're my flashlight.
You know if your husband's had the old coin recently.
Yes.
Get in the maze.
Twenty-eighths, a couple of diamonds, a quarter.
I remember because it's the only money he's given me a long time.
You steal M, too?
Looks like it.
There's a key on the left side.
The door's coming out of the maze.
No, I got it.
You still have it.
No, I don't know.
No, I got it.
You still have those coins?
No.
I sent a neighbor through the door for me to tell you
it was the only money I had to send him.
Right on the left side.
Right.
Comic book.
What was that name, Joe?
Tell.
Yeah.
Tests right down the line.
This can't be an equipment.
There's something we got at that market, too.
Yeah, I guess so.
You never bought it.
