President Barack Obama.
Virginia, we are counting on you.
Republicans want to steal enough seats in Congress
to raid the next election and wield unchecked power
for two more years.
But you can stop them by voting yes by April 21st.
Help put our elections back on a level playing field
and let voters decide not politicians.
Vote yes by April 21st.
Paid for by Virginians for fair elections.
Move every day.
Listen to the wrong radio.
You're listening to Vaughn radio.
Shootin' in every day.
Vaughn radio in every day.
Just think to the drive-time show that Kyle Miller.
You're listening to the wrong radio.
All right everybody.
Welcome back.
Welcome back to the drive-time show.
We're into our final half hour.
La ultima me deota.
The final half hour.
The last half hour.
Not only of the day but of the week,
as I speak, it is Friday.
And we do have plenty to cover in this final half hour.
So let's begin with a part of the show
that I really like to do.
It's very didactic.
You gain fluency with the interrogative.
I'm talking about the interrogative challenge.
Interrogative challenge.
All right everybody.
It's time for the interrogative challenge.
I'm going to give you the answer to the question.
You can ask me the question that I've already answered.
Okay.
Today we're going to talk a little bit about
OJ Simpson.
OJ Simpson.
Remember him, Tina?
Oh, Hota.
Okay.
OJ Simpson died on Wednesday.
When did OJ Simpson die on Wednesday?
When did OJ Simpson die on Wednesday?
Yes.
He was 76 years old when he died.
How old was he when he died?
How old was he when he died?
Okay.
He played running back in the NFL.
What position did he play in the NFL?
He played mostly with the Buffalo Bills.
Who did he mostly play with?
Who did he mostly play with?
I played with a few different teams,
but who did he mostly play with?
Yeah.
I think he also played...
I think he also played with San Francisco,
but he mostly played with Buffalo.
Yes.
He retired from the NFL in 1979.
When did he retire from the NFL?
When did he retire from the NFL?
Yeah, 1979.
Okay.
He won the Heisman Trophy.
Which trophy did he win?
Well, actually, he won.
I'm sure he won lots of trophies,
but he very famously won the Heisman Trophy,
which is the most prestigious trophy
in college football.
And one of the most prestigious trophies in...
Yeah, in amateur sport, really.
The Heisman Trophy.
Yeah.
Okay.
Let me see.
You got a couple more facts for you.
He won number 32.
What number did he wear?
What number did he wear?
And finally, he was born in San Francisco.
Where was he born?
Oh, he was born in San Francisco.
Yes.
He was born in San Francisco.
He died in Las Vegas.
And, yeah, O.J. Simpson was, of course,
made famous internationally for the murder case.
Right?
And he was acquitted from the criminal trial.
And it was just such a huge media story in the mid-90s.
I think it was 1995, I think, when he...
I think it was 1995, when his wife was murdered.
And he had this famous trial where they found a bloody glove.
And they found footprints in the blood that matched his rare shoe size.
He went into the court and he put the glove on and he said,
Oh, it doesn't fit.
And his lawyer, famous, he said, if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit.
Like he said, if the glove don't fit, you must acquit.
That means you have to essentially throw out the case.
But he was later found guilty of in a civil trial.
And he lost a lot of his wealth and his possessions and all that.
And he did go to prison.
But then afterwards he...
Yeah, so his...
Yeah, there was a wrongful death civil trial.
He had a bunch of other legal trials.
There was also a robbery that he was caught up in.
And he went to prison.
In 2012, I think he went to prison or early sometime around 2010, 2012, something like that.
It says here, he was sentenced to 33 years in prison with possibly a possibility of parole after nine years in 2017.
In 2009, the Supreme Court denied a request for bail.
In 2010, the Nevada Supreme Court affirmed his convictions.
And he served his sentence in jail there.
And then in 2012, they decided to reopen the armed robbery and kidnapping case against OJ Simpson.
A hearing was held in 2013.
And yeah, in July of 2013, he was granted parole.
So he got out.
And he was released.
Actually, he was finally released.
Let's see.
He was released in 2017, having served almost nine years.
Yeah, so he stayed out but on parole until 2021.
That's what it is.
How do you say parole, you know?
Parole.
I'm sure there's a word for this.
I'm sure there's a very specific legal term for this.
To get out of jail, we say on parole.
Parole.
Libertad Condicional.
Quifas.
Libertad Condicional.
That's what it was.
So he was led out of jail in 2017 on parole.
Libertad Condicional.
OJ Simpson.
Oh, it was.
And it was one of the, I mean, it was an iconic case.
Also a time when CNN news was really trying to grow this business of 24 hour news.
So he gave them a gift.
He gave them.
I mean, it was fantastic for CNN because they had.
They, they got millions and millions of viewers watching live.
Everything from the famous slow speed chase.
Do you remember that, Tino?
Perseguimiento?
No.
Per secución.
Pero, pero cuando vivo por la cara tera en su coche.
Per secución.
Yeah.
So they were chasing him in his Ford, his, his white Ford Bronco.
Driving down the road, the police were after him.
And, but he was going very slowly and they had like 25 police cars.
It was crazy.
He had a helicopter filming it live on the news and everyone in everyone in North America at least was watching.
And it was crazy.
It was one of the most viewed moments in television.
And probably the most viewed moment until maybe until September 11th.
Maybe something like that.
I mean, it was a monumental moment in live television.
And as was his case.
So it was a huge, it was a big deal, right?
The case.
But he was found not guilty in that case.
And then he went to, and then he was,
yeah, later charged in a civil suit.
But anyway, O.J. Simpson.
Well, we got to move on.
So the reason I'm talking about O.J. Simpson is because he died on Wednesday.
Yeah, he died on Wednesday.
And it was, yeah, I mean, a big,
a major newsmaker for so many reasons, right?
And he was a guy who was this incredible football player.
Football Americano.
And I want to let one of those mayhores,
the torsos tempos, as a running back.
And so this is why he was already a celebrity.
And like imagine like if you had Cristiano Ronaldo charged for murder.
Imagine how big it would be in the news.
Like it was something like this for American people.
It was a, it was a big, big story that made the news around the world.
Anyway, so O.J. Simpson has died.
He died this week.
Let's get into some vocabulary, everybody.
Here we go.
Now we can do it.
Okay, everybody.
Tino is with us.
How are you, Tino?
Very good.
And you?
Good. And you're back.
Yeah, I'm back.
You're back, right?
Yeah.
And, um, yeah, it's time.
Time today.
Two for one.
Yeah.
Double Tino.
Yeah.
Yeah, for the same price.
And we've got, it's Friday.
It's our last day.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
For the same price.
Yeah.
But it's Friday.
It's our last half hour of the week, Tino.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Last half hour.
And, um, Tino, why don't we talk about phone calls today?
Okay.
But I'm talking about a business, a professional call, a business call.
Mm-hmm.
So you have, I would just say,
Dejaro mensaje.
Et tu liva message?
Yeah, it's a leave a message.
Leave.
Leave.
Leave a message.
Sure.
Y poner en espera?
To put in hold.
To put someone in hold?
Let's say on hold.
Oh.
Yeah, to put someone on hold.
To put on hold.
I hate when they do that, you know?
Yeah.
Put you on hold.
With your bank or something, right?
They go away for 20 minutes.
Mm-hmm.
Music?
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Look music.
Yeah.
Colgara.
Colgara.
Et tu hang up?
Te hang up.
So colgara el teléfono, después de la llamada, to hold.
Te hang up.
But then sometimes they say, they hung up on me.
Mm-hmm.
Right?
Me colgaron.
Me colgaron.
Mm-hmm.
For favor.
Don't hang up on me.
For moneyers.
Yes, it is.
And it comes from this idea of the old phones or sentigos when it was colgada.
Elefono secuelgo.
No?
Se colgo.
Se colgo.
Se colgo.
Sorry.
Thank you very much.
Se colgo en la pared.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
I'm sure you had one of those phones, right?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Everybody did with the dial.
Yeah.
Yeah, we had those.
Absolutely patient.
Mm-hmm.
But kids these days will never know those.
No.
Mm-hmm.
Just for vintage.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Contact.
Contact.
Contact icon.
If you get through.
Mm-hmm.
Get through or get through to someone.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Is it easy for people to get through to you if they call the radio, if they call the
Vaughn?
I want to talk to Tino.
Is it easy to get through to you?
No.
It's not easy.
No.
That's true.
It's not easy to get through to us, really.
I mean, they can get through to me on Twitter and on Instagram.
That's the best way.
So on Facebook and I know they're on online, you know, but not on the phone.
Not on the phone, not so much.
At least you're in the show.
No, that's right.
I have people that try to call me during the show, but I'd say call me later.
You know, no, wait a minute.
I want to.
I want to know.
All right.
Pass out.
And to put through.
To put through.
Because pass out I am out to put someone through to someone else.
Mm-hmm.
If you do that, you may or may not get through to them.
Consigir contactar to get through to someone puts you through.
And then to get through to is Otrakosa.
Mm-hmm.
Kortarsi.
Alina.
Do get off.
Do get off.
No.
Do get off.
Yeah.
Or to get cut off.
Do get off.
Yeah.
Yeah, it happens to me when I call Canada through like Skype or something like that.
I use Skype on my phone, and it usually works well, but sometimes it cuts off.
Mm-hmm.
And I have to call back when you have low single.
Exactly.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Cut off.
All right.
Are you going to run out of battery?
To run out of battery.
Mm-hmm.
Does that happen to you often?
Mm-hmm.
No.
Not much.
Yeah, me neither.
No.
To run out of battery.
Mm-hmm.
All right.
So let's review really quick.
I should say.
All right.
Do leave a message, leave a message, put it on hold.
To put someone on hold.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Call gar a.
Do hang up on.
Do hang up on someone.
Contactar.
Go on.
Do get through to someone.
Yeah.
Get through to someone.
Passar.
Go on.
Again.
To put through to someone.
To someone.
Sure.

And to get that off.
Yeah.
I hate that.
Mm-hmm.
Get us in battery.
To run out of battery.
Yeah.
Run out of battery.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
All right.
Let's translate a few sentences.

All right.
Okay.

I said, Mark Starling.

The first word?
Yeah.

All right.
Now this is Spaniard.

Antonio del Pozo del Rio.
All right.
Could it be possible?
Yeah.
Here I could it be.
Yeah.
I would say would.
Would it be possible?
Uh-huh.
Would it be possible?
Okay.
Would it be possible to live a message?
Hmm.
It's just a very nice polite way.
Would it be possible?
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
You said was.
Could it be possible to live a message?
Me podría pasar con el departamento de contabilidad?

Okay.
The accounts department.
The accounts department?

I'm trying to get through your accounts department.
Yeah.
Sure.
I'm trying to get through to accounts.
Yeah.
You could say, you could say to accounts or you could say to the accounts department.
Okay.
Right.
Let's do one more.
Okay.
Um.

All right.
Well done, Tino.
Thank you.

And maybe some tricky vocabulary.
A little bit more advanced today.
Yeah.
Well, it wasn't easy.
Well, it wasn't easy.
It wasn't easy today.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, thank you for your time.
Thank you.
And we'll probably see you again on Monday, right?
Right.
Yeah.
All right.
How about nice weekend?
You got it.
Thank you, sir.
Bye-bye.
Okay.
Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
Cool.
Good.
Cool.
Great.
Very, very few of these gray hairs.
Fits. How are you?
Good.
Good, you, sir.
Do people tell you that you're starting to get gray hairs?
They do.
Although I must say not very many.
They're coming.
They're coming.
They're coming.
I got my hair cut earlier this week.
And someone said, and I said, How are we doing back there?
Catalpanie.
To the lady who was cutting my hair.
my hair and I said, do you see many gray hairs? And she said, a few, but not bad.
Good. Good. Good. I was
expression. When someone gets very gray to say, he says, gray is a badger. As gray is a badger.
Untechon. Untechon. Nice. As he says, gray is a badger. I like that one. Now we have
a bunch of people writing him. Carlos. Let's see. Joseph. Luis. Yes. But I was, yeah,
just then in Pithano Salicanas, you are, we'd say, you're starting to get gray hairs, right?
Yeah. Because we don't say, I hear, I see here, you are starting to come out gray hair. No,
you're starting to get gray hairs. You're starting to get them. And but a lot of people get gray
hairs like in their 20s. Oh, yeah. You know, people get them. People get them. I don't have,
I have a few, but what I do have is a receding hairline. It's going back. It's going back like a,
like a French army fits. Go back to French army. It's receding like a, you know what I mean?
I think here they say entranches. Entranches. Yeah. Yeah. Entrances. The old entrances.
Entranches. You know, Tino. Exactly. Yes. I'm getting, I'm getting better that, but not going
to gray so far, which is good, right? It's all good. Yes. Well, Fitz Friday is here. We have one
minute left. So I could get into other stuff. But I'm not going to bother today. I was talking
earlier about O.J. Simpson. What do you, what do you remember about O.J. Simpson?
Well, as normal as I would say, the juice he killed his wife. Well,
well, you know, he had to make it gone films. I know. I know. I know. Let's
in yield some genius. I think when you look at the evidence of his case, though, it's,
it's pretty slanted against O.J. But he's a man who dodged things pretty well, although he ended
up going doing some time. He went, he did go to prison eventually, but he got out on time to,
to live out his final, final few years, at least. Yeah. And he was 76. So he was actually
older than I thought. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Folks, we are out of time. Thanks for dropping in, Fitz.
I was holding time for dropping in for dropping in. We'll be back on Monday with another episode
of the drive time show. Stay tuned for Chris Frank with frankly speaking. Fantastic show coming
up right here on Vaughn Radio in just a few minutes. And as I always say on Fridays, have a
wonderful weekend, everybody. Have fun. Stay safe out there. And we'll see you on the other side.
Bye bye. Bye bye.
You're listening to Vaughn Radio. You're listening to Vaughn Radio.
