Eagles Sign Pierce, Smartt for Depth, STs

With the NFL today, March 19th, the Philadelphia Eagles made a couple of moves in free agency

this week, signing running back Damian Pierce and tied in stone smart to one year.

Deals. These additions come as the team builds depth behind stars like Sequan Barkley in the

backfield and Dallas Goatard at tight end. Pierce, a 26-year-old former fourth-round pick out of Florida,

burst onto the scene as a rookie, with the Houston Texans in 2022. He rushed for 939 yards

in four touchdowns that year, plus showed receiving skills. His production dipped after that,

leading to a waiver by the Texans last season and time on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.

Meanwhile, smart, a 27-year-old who played for the Chargers and Jets,

brings solid special teams experience. Over his last three seasons, he logged hundreds of

snaps on coverage units, with some offensive flashes like seven catches for 52 yards last.

Year with New York. Both players could shine under special teams, Coach Michael Clay.

Pierce has explosive kick return potential, including a 98-yard touchdown early in his career,

while the Eagles rotated six returners last. Season with mixed results.

Shipley led them at 26.8 yards per return, making the 53-man roster won't be easy, though.

Pierce joins a crowded backfield, and smart might push for a fourth tight end spot alongside Goatard,
