Eagles Trade Safety Sydney Brown to Falcons

0:00For the NFL, it's March 20th. Here's what's happening. The Philadelphia Eagles have traded safety, Sydney Brown, to the Atlanta Falcons, and a swap of late-round draft picks. Philadelphia picks up Atlanta's 114th and 197th overall selections, while the Falcons take the Eagles one. 122nd and 215th picks. This move leaves the Eagles even thinner at safety. They already lost starter-read blanket ship to free agency with the Houston Texans and show no rush to resign Marcus Epps. That put second-year player Drew McCuba, who broke his ankle late last season, and practice squad option Andre Sam as their main depth with the team, doing running back Michael Carter as a possible safety too. Brown earned praise as a high-character talent when the Eagles drafted him 66 overall in the third round back in 2023. He flashed in his rookie year with 14 games, six starts, and a 99 yard interception return for touchdown against the Cardinals.

1:00Injuries derailed him after that, starting with an ACL tear against the Giants, followed by a second knee surgery. Under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Brown saw a limited defensive action, mostly on special teams across 42 career games with nine starts. Two picks, 86 tackles, and two forced fumbles. Now Brown heads to Atlanta for a fresh shot, while the Eagles either draft next month. Maybe even their first first round safety, like Oregon's Dylan.
