EARLY PANIC OVER? Giants Back in the Mix

Tony Vitello deserves some credit. After a rough opening stretch, the San Francisco Giants have gone 7-3 over their last 10 games and are starting to stabilize. The bullpen has improved, the club is stacking series wins, and the early panic has cooled off. Now comes the bigger question: where do the Giants actually stand in the National League picture?

We take a way-too-early look at the standings with San Francisco sitting 6.5 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot. The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets have stumbled early, creating opportunity, but the crowded National League Central could become a real problem if that division keeps sending multiple contenders.
