Ensleys Ramsay McCormack Building: Construction on Hold, but Progress Expected by End of July
The Ramsay McCormack building in Ensley, Birmingham, has been vacant for years, but construction could finally kick off soon. The city put out calls for redevelopment proposals, but turned them all down for not meeting standards. In 2019, the city tapped Ensley developers to handle the project, who tore down the original structure in 2021. However, theyve hit roadblocks securing the final financing ever since. Neighboring spots and the Ensley Revitalization Committee sued to push things along, worried the empty high-rise drags down the whole area. In Thursdays status hearing, the court-appointed special master shared that the developers aim to lock in their construction loan by the end of May, with shovels in the ground sixty days after that close. The next hearing is set for September, with eyes glued on whether this old eyesore turns into a fresh win for Ensley.
