we need the more signups I'm going to give you a quick update on that before we get to the
motivational minute let me give you this look I wrote this down so I wouldn't forget anything
because I want to explain quickly before we actually get the real show started about the
win-a-life showcase that it will be this Saturday March 21st 2026 if you're listening to this in
the future maybe it already happened but if you're watching currently or you listen to this within
the next few days or so we will be meeting at 101 Mall Boulevard which is the legacy hotel
parking lot we have an indoor area an outdoor area so we can serve food and then outside we're
going to have everyone with their setups and all of this good stuff so that we can do YouTube
videos people can see each other create relationships and all that out but we have a win-a-life
weekend I've been talking about it it didn't really have a name but we do have a win-a-life weekend
agenda that we'll be doing and I'm right quick I'm going to go over it if you would like the sign
up it is 100% free we will be providing you with cheese or pepperoni pizza as well as a drink
ticket for the lemon line up so you can have something the best lemonade that they have here
and Western Pennsylvania shout out to my younger brother Mario who will be here to do that but
Friday night we got some people coming in we got a couple hotels that you can stay at the Hampton
and both are in Maroville that's M-O-N-R-O-E-V-I-L-L-E Pennsylvania so that you know but I'm suggesting
people either stay at the holiday in or at the Hampton in their four stars and 4.5 stars respectfully
and they are super close to everything that we will be doing here in this win-a-life
this win-a-life weekend so Friday night I had to change some stuff up by this side I was going to
go to Buffalo Wild Wings have people just meet me there but there's Buffalo Wild Wings every
day I'm wearing you gonna come to Pittsburgh you might as well try something from Pittsburgh and so
we have a wonderful chain of restaurants here called permany brothers and now they make sandwiches
I mean they have other food but they're famous for their almost famous sandwiches which have
some cold you could get this stuff separately too but this is how a lot of people get it you get
bread you get a protein source whether it is eggs or sausage or hamburger there's a whole lot
of different things and then they put some coleslaw on there some fresh cut fries another piece
of bread on there and it's like a trucker sandwich so that the truckers could drive down the street
and have everything and they wouldn't have to reach for their fries or whatever have a fork for
the coleslaw it's all on one sandwich so it is a Pittsburgh staple here and so we're going to meet
there on Friday night from 730 to 930 you have to buy your own food this is everything that I do
currently is free for you to attend but there's a caveat to that right this thing on Friday night
is free but you buy your own food and if you would like to have a libations there's also a bar
but we'll be doing that from 730 to 930 on Friday night and then Saturday is the day of the event
from 1 to 4 we'll have the win-and-life meetup and then which is people bringing their
setups and all of that fellowship we got some games being played and all of that but for 1 to 4
we'll be doing that and then Saturday night we're either going to go to a place called zone 28
which has I'm pretty sure that's where we're going to go but it has a bowling alley a arcade a bar
and a restaurant all of that cool stuff so we'll be going down there to have some more fun on
Saturday night from 730 to whenever people feel like leaving for those who stay and then Sunday morning
we will be meeting at Grace Life Church which is my church that I go to for the 10 am service which
is our second service and following that we will head to Applebee's for a I call it go home lunch
or brunch whatever you want to call it but Applebee's is fire unless but not least we have Kubota
coming through they're going to be bringing skid stairs and some other machines my man Garrett
Bauer with Magnummatic is going to be coming with the dopest blade sharpener in the industry top
of the line stuff to get your blades sharp tip to tip all right and so he will be there putting on
a demonstration of the most fantastic blade sharpener that's out there my man Joe with pin hills
rental to owner pin hills rental he will be bringing some Toro mowers and things like that there
and in my man Mike Garvey and Larry De La Santé are Crest dealers and I will be converting over to
electric small engine equipment which I guess don't have engines or whatever but I'll be I'm going
I'm going to actually be converting over to electric equipment so I ask Mike and Larry if they could
bring their brand new rig down so you could see this brand new equipment with the price of gas
going up you're going to have to look for some alternatives when it comes to gas carburetor
equipment and what better place to do it than here at the one-in-life meetup where you could see
some stuff in action and see if it's the right move for you because I don't know you your budget
or what you're thinking but I'm thinking about the future like my man BYD said we got to be thinking
of the future of our industry and it seems to be moving towards battery and Crest is the top
of the line when it comes to that battery stuff so I'm excited to have Mike and Larry come down
there bring their skits there's an all of that their skits there's their trailer with all the
cool crest equipment that they're going to have down there so if you're interested in that stuff
then come on down we also have some cool sponsors J.A. Rudder will be providing us with some stuff
and taking care of some food and drinks and stuff for us so shout out to all of our sponsors
as well as myself I'll be sponsoring some stuff too like some of the giveaways that will be doing
for the rock paper scissors showdown as well as the corn hole challenge which will be a new
game that we debut here in the spring but if you are interested in coming we are now well over
a hundred people who are signed up for the event it's going to be 65 degrees with no rain beautiful
sunlight out there so you can have some dope pictures have a good time and we won't be wet or cold
out there so if you want to sign up it's still open registration will be open all the way up into
after the event starts so all i need you to do a sign up so i know how many pizzas i need to buy
and how much this lemonade is going to cost me that i'll be providing for you so you can sign up
a number of ways you can email me directly at maclascaping412 at gmail.com you can hit my link
tree at mac underscore landscaping 412 on instagram where there's a link up there there will be a link
down in the show notes of this podcast and in the description of this video should you see this
in the future but like i said it is 100% free for you to attend and it is family friendly
you can bring your kids you can bring your aunt your dog if you have a dog
bring your wife as my wife and my children will be there and yeah so i hope to see you there
this weekend it's going to be an absolute amazing winning life week and i can't wait to spend it
those of you who come to Pittsburgh or just come to the event as a whole but that leads us to
this week's motivational minute it's crazy but i was i listened to a lot of motivational speeches
myself some people say that i'm motivating whatever but you know the things that you listen to
are the things that you think and the things that you think or the things that you say and i
listen to this stuff so much that it kind of has inundated my whole psyche and all i really can
think is positivity so one of the things that has been coming up recently whether it's been at church
or just videos that i'll listen to is that we are called to be generous and generous meaning
even a cheerful giver like you shouldn't be upset when you give because give is good if you give
that is a good thing and one of the things that one of my favorite speakers said one time was
Jim Rooney says uh giving starts the process to receiving so if you ever wonder why it's better to
give than to receive it is because when you give that opens the process up for you to begin to
receive and when i heard that i was like wow being generous actually is a almost selfish thing because
if you're generous by giving to someone else unselfishly then things just seem to come towards you
right you get things because you give things and so i was also listening to another
video that had Denzel Washington and he was i loved Denzel Washington he's the
speaking of Denzel the Oscars just happened last night he's one of the first uh you know black
people to uh win best actor he was the second behind Sydney Portia in last night Michael B. Jordan
was able to win so shout out to him in that movie uh sinners which was pretty good i just watched it
but in this speech he was talking about being generous and he said this is in a bible
that you can be generous he gave four different ways he said you can share your time your skill
or talent and your treasures and his fourth one was your prayers and so you have to be generous with
those things because they are gifts from God and one of the things that i have finally realized in my
old life i got always gray hairs now is that when you are when you are generous to other people it
never goes forgotten i mentioned that i think last week uh but it got it brought me to a couple
stories and i noticed this is the motivational minute but it always takes longer because i'm long
winded uh but he says you can be generous with your time your skills or talent or your treasures
and it made me think of three things uh where people have given those three things to me and so
the first one is time and time um it's something that people we have we can't get back and when you
give it to someone else i hope that they will take it and cherish it the way that i have one day
i was playing basketball and uh down at the YMCA and i lived about a mile and a half from the YMCA
and it was up and downhill so you know the grandparents used to say i walk uphill both ways
and four feet of snow to get this cool because that's how hard it was for us back in the day well
i wasn't going to you know uphill both ways uh but this way i was going uphill most of the way
to get to my house and as i was going home i was 12 years old or 13 i had aged out of the basketball
program there and so i was just dribbling up the hill on my way home and then this van pulled up to
me and when the van pulled up to me it was a a guy and he says hey do you want to ride and i
looked at him and i was like nah brine getting in the car i don't know you and then there was this
girl that was in my home room in seventh grade she yells from the backseat
hey cool down come on it's my that's my dad and i was like okay i know her so i hopped in the car
now i'm in the back of the van we're on our way home with these people didn't know that my dad had
just went to prison like a few months before that and i was just giving everything i had to
playing basketball because it got my mind off of things and so i'm walking home and this guy
offers me a ride and i get in the back of the car and we're on our way home they had a son two
sons actually and the youngest son was about seven years old now he's all the way in the back he
thought i was pretty cool because i was really good at basketball 13 years old and so he's telling me
all of this stuff about hockey and del heard heart junior and this and that and this and that
and finally he goes do you want to stay tonight at my house tonight and i was i didn't even know how
to answer the question i i was like uh i don't know if you're mom and before i could finish
getting it out he said mom can Cornell stay tonight at the house tonight and these are strangers
to me at the time i don't even know them except for the daughter who's in the backseat who used
to be in my room and so she says as long as his parents is it's okay all right i went home turns
out they live right around the corner from me and so i go home i tell my mom hey i didn't even ask
i just said i'm staying at my friend's house she said okay this was back in the day all right this
was twenty some years ago when that kind of stuff still happened i would never allow that now
sheesh i would never allow that without meeting the parents but anyway i go over there and stay over
there long story short they had a swimming pool basketball hoop that that coached baseball and hockey
and he he worked and and the mom was a house cleaner and she worked and they was just this awesome
family that all the kids in the neighborhood uh sort of gravitated towards her whatever reason
they were like the sun and we were all planets orbiting around these this couple and so
one day they uh they they were getting double cheeseburgers double cheeseburgers that middle
at McDonald's were about four they were forty eight cent back then it's crazy but she came home she had
all these double cheeseburgers and french fries from McDonald's and when that when i grew up it was
like all right mom comes home with food it's time for company to leave right and i might have told
this story before but i got up i'm ready to dip out i got a roll all right the foods here it's time
for for me to go home and when i went to leave out the door she goes what are you doing and i was like
oh you know y'all's about to eat dinner she said i brought stuff for you too and i sat down
and i ate she got me two double cheeseburgers and a small fry we had turners iced tea it was
amazing we sat there we watched a movie or something i can't exactly remember but i do remember this
they didn't have to do that they didn't have to spend money on me they didn't have to
give me their time and i stayed with that family for four years through all the way through high
school and still to this day i am super close with that family i go to my my boy's house every
four for july he has all these fireworks and all of those traditions started in that time
that they shared with me and it just made me think about how blessed i am to have
been walking up the street that time and then getting in the car and then finding these people who
completely changed my life for the good right by seeing what a responsible father and mother do
for their kids staying together working sacrificing and sharing their time not just with their family
but with other kids too i can't i don't even know how many lives they may have affected by just
sharing their time but uh that was that was a dope thing that i felt like uh we don't always have to
give money sometimes time is all a kid needs and like i said my my pops had just went to prison
i'm in a single mom uh household and right around the corner there's this awesome guy
who's in the pool playing basketball he's down in the in the basement playing hockey
who's teaching kids how to throw curveballs and volunteering and doing all these things and it just
showed me that like time is way more important and he didn't even know how much i needed him at that
point how much i needed that time and i feel like that time being a part of what they were doing
is a direct connection to what i do now with my own family so shout out to them another thing you
can share is your talents um whenever i was a kid at the same exact time uh as my pops with the
prison i'm giving everything i got to basketball i'm down at this basketball court one day and there's
this guy uh his name with his nickname was squirt and i told this story before but he see me playing
he sitting on the sidelines watching me play against other kids and then by myself and he's at one
end of the court i'm at one end of the court uh he's shooting i'm shooting at the other in the
wing talking to each other his his lady is just sitting there with the baby in the car seat
and eventually i don't know if a ball my ball roll to his end of the court or vice versa but he came
down and he started to teach me some stuff and one of the things he said to me was you got a talent
you can shoot the ball better than anybody i've ever seen and i he is like how old are you and
i was like 13 he was like you're the best 13-year-old shooter i've ever seen he just spoke words
and life into me and he said you have such a talent that whenever someone gives you one inch you
should be shooting the ball and i said okay so now we're playing any games some kids get there he
passes me the ball because he was so good and i've never deferred to people on the court but he
was way he's probably 12 13 years older than me so i had never deferred to other kids on the
court but this was a grownup and so he passed me the ball and he was then like he could have just
killed everyone but he's passing me the ball just getting me to shoot in one time he passed me the ball
i pumped fake and i passed it back to him the ball went out of bounds and he stopped he didn't even
go worry about the ball he came straight to me he said what did i tell you and i said you told
me to shoot the ball if they give me one inch and he said what didn't you do i said i didn't shoot the
ball he was like you got to shoot the ball right so he was sharing his talent with me
he was sharing his talent with me to help me enrich my own talent and that's what i like to do
with people too is this to share a little bit of information with you to help you get a little
bit better so you can give your talents away because that is what we are actually supposed to do
with these talents they ain't just for us they ain't just for us the last thing is sharing your
treasures whenever i was a kid i was very poor single mom uh three kids when i was in third grade
i might have told this story before too but i got called to the office and you know when you get
called to the office in third grade everybody goes ooh what did you do right i'm 42 years old telling
you about some time that i was in third grade but this changed my life man uh i get to the
office and i think i'm in trouble the principal says you won and i'm like i won what did i win
and i'm all excited i won what did i win you want a shop in spree that toys are us now toys are
us i don't even know if that's around i think they went bankrupt but back whenever i was a little
boy in third grade eight years old or whatever you are you get a shop in spree for a hundred dollars
do you know how a hundred dollars in the early nineties like five or six hundred dollars now
so i'm running around through this dog on toys are us and i'm buying everything it's
around christmas time i'm buying stuff for myself and then when i got to the front i realized
something that the stuff that was in the shopping cart was only for me and i had a brother
and a little sister and now i look at myself as the big brother like i'm the man at the house and i'm
eight and so when i got up there and they started to ring the stuff up i was like uh i didn't get
my brother anything or my sister and i want to put all this stuff back and go get them stuff so
i went to do that and the dudes they were like no i don't worry about that here's another hundred
dollars and they gave me a second hundred dollars so that's like a damn thousand dollars in a
toys arrest for eight year old and i went around and i bought that i bought stuff for my brother
and my sister i even bought a toy for my mom that toys are us i can't remember exactly what
it was uh but they shared their treasures with me and what it did for me was made me want to be
generous even though i'm poor that act of kindness that they gave me literally has ingrained itself
within my heart and soul to be able to give to other people and we ain't rich by any stretch of
the imagination but this is why i try to do events that are free that i might not always be the case
because thus stuff is getting more and more expensive but i just want to share the things that
i have whether it is my time some people may think i have a talent a little bit to talk now or whatever
or the treasures uh that we may or may not get now or in the future i just want to share that stuff
because i know that it wasn't given to me just for me to have it could be somehow an inspiration
to someone else at the same way i've been inspired by other people sharing their time skills
talents or treasures and the last thing is prayers for all the people who are out there
doing unnoticed prayers i don't even know how many people pray for me i know my wife does but
when you pray for someone else as well being man somehow good thing just how i'm about to tear up
because i know i know that there have been people out there
starting with my wife my mom my grandmother my older aunts and uncles that just are out there
praying for people to do well that they love and people that they don't even know to do well
so share those prayers share your time share your talents and share your treasures i know i've been
long-winded but this is very important we are to be generous and to be cheerful and if you just
give you will start the process for you to also receive on a big level so be generous man be
generous all right that's the motivational minute i'm sorry it was for it took so long but
we got a lot of people in here and i appreciate y'all man we got over 30 people in here right now
watching live and i appreciate it we're going to get to these 14 things here in just a little bit
but now we got to get to this week's winter of the week which is we are
very close a lot of people are starting here mowing in their maintenance stuff
where they do weekly mowing if you're up here in the in the northeast or where you got cool season
grasses this grass is about to start growing right around the beginning of April but our first
official day is going to be March 30th which is less than two weeks away and so this week's winter of
the week is not anything any one specific but it is for all of my first and second year business owners
if you're in long-care awesome if whatever service business you're in whatever business that you
have created i just want to say congratulations man on starting your dream start in your process
start in your walk to your promised land congratulations a lot of people wouldn't do what you've
done a lot of people are not brave enough to go out there maybe quit a job or even if you don't quit
a job to just get started why because they're worried about what other people think and when you're
right at the beginning nobody believes oh most nobody believes but you know who does believe the people
who have already been in the game and this is why i wanted to shout you out if this is your first
year start and now man can graduate damn relations you are different from other people
all right i was telling my daughter about being a quarterback and how the quarterback is set apart
from the other team from the entire team the quarterback is just a little more important
that doesn't mean they're more important as a person in the eyes of God or none of that but when
you are a quarterback there's a reason why they give you the red jersey everybody else got the
regular colors on but you get the red one because people ain't allowed to hit you they block things
from coming your way everybody has your back when you're the quarterback and it's a lot like this when
you're in your first year of business the opponent is a lot of times people that are close to you
people who've knew you growing up people who are wanting you to fail because they haven't started
but guess what you got to win in life family we are right here we will always be here for you the
people who have started businesses kept businesses going and now they are trucking along living
in life that they dream about those are your people now so forget about the others all right we say
congratulations to you because you are different you are set apart from other people because you
have gotten started so I say congratulations to you for my second year people you've gotten through
those first year blues you probably learned some lessons maybe they were some bad lessons maybe you
picked up some good things and now you're just in it to win it you survived that first year
and now it is time to start taking off all right invest into that new piece of equipment right here
in the spring since you know you're gonna do this you put through you've been put through the
ranger in that first year I'm sure of it I know because I've been there I've been there but you're
in your second year now and you're ready to go out there and kick as starting right from the
beginning I started in the middle at the end of June all right and that's how a lot of people
start it's just on a whim but if you are you been in it for a year it's not a whim anymore now hopefully
you have a CRM hopefully you have some customers from last year and that's what we're gonna talk
about today about filling up that thing and getting your schedule filled up before you even start
the season and the 14 things you can do to help get you there but if you're in that second season
and I'm proud of you welcome to the second year you got this you're gonna do even better than you
did in that first year because now you have some seasoning under your belt and we all know things
taste better when they are season let's go all right let's get to this week's word of the week
every week my homeboy Marcus Tate sends me among other people some a word of the week to help us
get our week started and I'd like to share with you so without further ado let's get to it
my man Marcus Tate the LBG OG says Ryzen Shion word of the week is longevity
longevity is defined as a long duration of an individual's life or the length of life long
just longevity is something that we all want in life I believe that longevity is anything
in anything is tied to honor I like that what your honor what your honor lives long if your honor
if you honor your health you should live long if you honor your family it will create love that
gives it life so if you want longevity and business we have to honor the opportunity that is given
let's strive to have longevity in every aspect of life honor your father and your mother which
is the first commandment with promise that it may be well with you and you may live long on this
earth that is from Ephesians chapter six verses two and three in the new King James version of the
Bible have a great week Marcus Tate longevity man I'm in my 10th year going this year and I tell you
what at the beginning of the business I knew it will work the first damn job I came home and I
went like this I said this plenty of times put those arms out wide look at my wife's hair streaming
down my face and I said this is gonna work 10 years later we got some longevity in this game I
know the one YouTube videos talking to service business entrepreneurs twice a week why because I
have some longevity now I've learned a few things and I want to teach those things that I have
learned to other people so that they can go out and have longevity as well so if you want to have
longevity man one of the things that you can do to help create that longevity and to keep that
fire burning it's to have some great relationships with some other great people within your industry
and that's why I invite you to the 2026 win-and-life meet-up service business showcase there's
gonna be a lot of people to have longevity there so shout out to Marcus Tate the LBC OG and the word
of the week do we have any new people in here it looks like this comment section is on fire over
there on Instagram let me look over here on YouTube all right before we get into the the thing
let me go through here and see did we have um we see Ian Keith's greetings from Bobcat
conversions long cares in his first year Oak Valley grounds maintenance his seven customers
just last week great way to start the season shout out to you Gerard Esposito says you're
what's up Katz Paul cat spring long what's going on with you my girl Jennell's in the building
time cut long and landscape is in the building all right let me get to these 14
these 14 things you can do to stay it's it's basically a leads ready checklist so if you haven't
done this stuff yet uh I encourage you to get started on it uh we're gonna talk about past
customers google neighborhood domination and lastly we will be talking about visibility all right
so these are all things that I have been doing I'll give you some small examples uh Jonathan
Raj regas says um let me read this real quick because this is though Jonathan Raj regas says Mr.
Marcus Tate and his wife were the first people I met at the 2023 winning life meetup he has
consistently sent me words of encouragement every week and I'm thankful to be a part of his circle
absolutely man Marcus Tate and uh and Larisa Tate are they are like family to me that's why I
talk about Marcus every week that's why he has his own segment is because Marcus genuinely is one
of the most phenomenal people that I have ever met in my entire damn life seed landscape and it's
why I talk about them so much his wife just as amazing yeah I couldn't think of two better people
to be affiliated with in the industry honestly then them they speak life into people they pray for
people they're there for people and they're just awesome people so shout out to Marcus and Larisa
uh and I'm happy that you got to meet them Jonathan because they are phenomenal people but
uh this is a leads ready checklist for the spring rush so let's first let's talk about past
customers um there is people who you absolutely everything that I say is my own experience
all right I share it with you because maybe your experience is as similar or maybe you'll
actually run into the same things that I run into because it's all the same everything that
everyone goes through pretty much is all the same customers typically are the same there are
some anomalies out there some aberrations but most of the things that we talk about whether you're
here in Pennsylvania with me or in Texas or in California human nature is human nature and we're
virtually uh the same so again like I said these are my things that I do and I'm just sharing them
with you so right now uh we're gonna focus on past customers I got three things when when it comes
to past customers all right so uh from all right so the first thing is to send off an email now
these also if you haven't done them yet now is a good time I mean you are running out of time we
don't want to be in April sending off kickoff things you might have got fired and didn't even know it
okay so let's not do that but the first thing for your past customers is send an email
the first thing send emails to all of the people now there's going to be some people that you
absolutely loved working with okay you absolutely love working with them the first thing you
got to do is email everyone broadly if you got a dope CRM like I do a job or you probably
could just press a button and send the same stock email to all of your customers whether it's
seven customers or whether it's seven thousand customers okay uh just send that kick off let
them know hey we are still in business we are going to be starting on such and such date and if
you're like me and for your residential customers you have rollover contracts or agreement subscriptions
where they can uh they don't really have to sign up again unless you're gonna give them a price
increase uh then you can just send the email letting them know hey we're gonna start such and such
date and hey that's it right but that goes out to everyone now the second thing is there's
customers that you absolutely love okay they're like the quarterbacks they're settled apart a little
bit right maybe their price is is great and your profit margin on that your is absolutely amazing
maybe it's a cluster of five people or eight people like a hot spot like my man John Crowley
or like I have here my own neighborhood uh maybe it's someone who always cleans up the dog poop
even though they have a dog maybe it's someone who always leaves tips or they left you a phenomenal
Google review right you got those top 10 people who are absolutely amazing call them all right we're
gonna call them hey miss Jackson I just wanted to let you know we are gonna be starting here on
March 30th but right now I'm going through and I'm giving my my top customers a call just to see
is there anything else that you may need do you want a most refresh would you is there any landscaping
project that you may want us to do do you need your shrubs shrubs trimmed or anything that you may
have not gotten to the previous season you know if it just convert it from fall to snow super fast
like it did for us there may be some of those places that you just didn't get to what we want to call
them and make sure that you're getting that extra work on your schedule so past customers send off
a email kick off text and then call your best customers and then last but certainly not least
you can send text messages out to all your last year's clients as well so emails text and the
top 10 people we want to call them and talk to them directly why because when people hear your
voice set you apart a little bit different and I personally want to keep them top 10 customers at
all costs we want to keep them keep them happy and keep them high now this is going to be we're
going to get through these quick now that's past customers so send season kick off emails send text
message reminders to your last year clients and then call those top 10 customers that you would like
to work with and offer them more things you know offer more stuff now let's get to Google
Google is to me by far the best way to get leads and I have never paid for Google ads although
I'm thinking about starting some here over maybe in the first month or two of the season just to
get some more customers here in my own neighborhood and the vicinity around here to increase our
authenticity even better but on Google make sure that you have a website hopefully you do
make sure that you have some reviews and this is a good time right at the beginning is to go
to your past customers that you just called if they haven't given you that review yet and just ask
them for a review you we want to have some update it stuff so I'm personally having to do this now
is to go through and ask those customers that were extremely happy last year if they haven't
leave left a review yet is to go ahead and send them that text message after that kick off email
and they say hey Mac we're so happy we can't wait to have you service our property again this year
awesome if you're super happy about that can you do me a favor and maybe leave a fast start
review and I'll send you over a link boom most people are super happy to do that it might take a couple
times right after the first service maybe you do that again if they still haven't done it but make
sure you keep that I will keep the link literally saves on your phone and your notes that way
you could do that or if you have a CRM automation like we do with jobber you can literally
have job or do that I haven't turned that on because I don't want to annoy people and sometimes
you send them their weekly thing they just paid you 65 70 80 80 fat dollars or whatever
maybe it's annoying sometimes and then your CRM sends them that automated message hey
when a soon as a fast start review sometimes that stuff gets annoying so I don't want to do that
through there I just like to ask the customer if they're happy and when they say yes then I send
them that thing immediately post an update with spring services I haven't done this yet but
you can put that out there on google put a picture up on your google page and we all need to have
more uploaded pictures for goodness sake but upload a new picture that says maybe you want to put
your rates on there if that's something you want to do but just list your spring services so that
people know what you offer and that way whenever they do hit your your website up they know that
you offer these things mulch installation aerations overseas these things that you can do in the spring
shrub trimming garden bay redefining weeds to get those winter weeds that may have popped up all
of these different things but update your services for spring and like I said new fresh pictures I
literally went through my phone and went through my pictures and I created a collection or a photo
album that literally says google business picks and so it has a whole bunch of pictures in here
that I need to upload into google to update all of my pictures because more updated pictures
shows google that you're active and it shows the people who are potentially going to be your new
customers that you're active and maybe for me personally when I set up my google business page
I had an iPhone 10 it's right here here's my it's my work phone now but I had an iPhone 10
and when I upgraded to the iPhone 15 which is what this one is the camera obviously got a lot
better so the iPhone 10 wasn't changing things to HDR and brightening up the stripes automatically
whatever the phones do on their own now without even adding a filter right but now you probably
have a better phone than you had a couple years ago if that's when you started yours that's when
I started mine so I'm now going through all of my pictures no matter how old they are if they're
on this phone they're better than the ones that were on that iPhone 10 and we're going to start
getting those all loaded up to our to my google page and then last um when it comes to google is you
got to make sure your stuff is up to date um I know when I first started my business I had a google
business phone number like from the and I got a million spam calls from that and that's why I ended
up getting a second line at it but then for a while I forgot to change my phone number on there
so I had the old phone number which was like a 4 2 3 number and people were hitting that up and then
they would email me and say hey we tried to call the number but it went to voicemail or we didn't
get a response or whatever I'm like what number did you call and they're like 4 1 2 4 2 3
I can't remember what the last four did six whatever the hell the last four digits number were
last four digits were but they're like yeah I'm like oh that's not the number anymore what that's
the number that's on google come on man come on bra I'ma be a business owner and I got the wrong
phone number on my damn google page so there's some things that maybe in your on your google
business page that just need updated it if it if it's your service hours if it might be
when you first started out you're in your first year driving all over the place I was driving
the Pittsburgh pin hills key sport homestead and this is all over Pittsburgh this is craziness I'm
driving all over the place and my google business page literally said I service all these
different areas and then once I grew the clientele base I realized about raw density and all these
dumb drives I'm doing and I can't be doing that and I took all of that stuff off updated it now
it just says I'm in roville I might and maybe pin hills I can't remember but those are the two
closest areas to me so go through verify all of your info make sure your google business pages
up the date with the services you provide your hours of business the holidays that you're
going to be off your service area the correct phone number your website your your social media
pages and all of this stuff you can add all of that stuff on to google and I highly recommend it
so that's google now let's get to neighborhood nominations we got about
10 minutes left and I talked about this stuff a lot on the first episode of this month of
on the attack with Mac when we started this spring rush prep series and now we're just kind of
bringing this stuff back in doing another refresher because the phones are going to light up
very soon if they haven't already for you we're getting some phone calls but nothing like it's
going to be mid April to early June and that's the spring rush for us is it just I mean you could
get 40 calls in a day all right if you're set up the right way and so once you set that up the
right way and you're getting your phone or ring now you get some new customers and you get into a
neighborhood that you like how do you dominate that neighborhood to fill up your roster let me see
what number we are and I should have had these number oh see three seven so we're number eight
I talked before about the five or nine around systems and recently in our private group
the win and life private group that we have we've been going over some of our strategies on what
we're doing personally my man spends christgo got a whole bunch of fire door hangers and things
like that people are getting business cards or printing out you know three paid like where you
could fold the three pages so that has their stuff on the front or contact information and then they
open it up and it's like a brochure with all of this cool stuff in there you know we do spring clean
ups and and you know irrigation blowouts we do the freaking lawn treatments we got mosquito repellents
we do there's all these people they have these you know people have nice things but the
five and nine around strategy is using one of those print marketing materials you can either
knock on the door talk to someone directly but if you knock on my door I promise you you know it's
funny my wife we just got Verizon internet right we had Xfinity Comcast and now we got Verizon
why do we got Verizon because I was going somewhere I think I was up at the compound sharpening blades
or something like that and I come home my wife was like oh just by the way there's a Verizon
we're getting Verizon internet and I was like huh how she's like what they gonna save us 70 fat
dollars it's something gonna be 70 fat dollars we get this extended that we'll go down to our pool
now so the end we'll have the internet down there all the shoes telling me all this stuff I'm like
so what what made you get Verizon you know as she said to me this guy knocked on our door
so some guy was just on our street for Verizon and guess what he was doing five and nine around
right he I don't know how many houses are on my street probably 20 or 30 or something like that
I don't know but he just went up the street so he did a 30 year round he basically went up my street
knocked on the door hey I'm offering Verizon here's this this this and this and then he picked up
a customer right there at my house while I was going now the reason I brought that up is because had
I been hung I might not have answered the door or I would have answered the door said I'm not
interested and then shut the door in his face because I'm just ignorant like that all right but my
wife ain't like that this had this guy in our house he's like yeah we could do this we could do that
they came and they installed it today but my point is that's basically a five or nine around now
a lot of people don't want their door knock door so this is why if you have the print marketing whether
you put a rubber band through a business card and punch a hole in it and then you could put that
on their door knob do not touch mailboxes don't put stuff in people's mailboxes I'm not giving any
advice on mailboxes or even newspaper boxes I'm just not touching any of that stuff but what I will
do is put something on someone's door knob or leave something on someone's floor mat that's one
of the things I got from a man Johnny blades of grass he said just drop it on their floor mat they
got to pick it up and they pick it up they look at it and you might get a customer from that just
because they looked at your stuff so and put your QR code on there that goes straight to your website
or your your request form we got the request forms on jobber and so put a QR code on there for
that my man spends Chris go this up and I was real cold on his door hanger he has this marketing
thing and it's it's fire because he has his minimum price right and then he has an X through the
minimum price and then he has a lower price that he gives them so let's just say for instance
you just put on here that your minimum price is 65 or 70 all right but then you cross that out
because you're doing nine rounds and you put it on there for you know $10 cheaper and maybe
your actual minimum price is $55 but it's a it's a psychological thing they see oh minimum price
typically is 65 but we're going to do yours for 55 and now you're getting your minimum price for
something that would be minimum price anyway I'm not saying if it's a $85 yard to charge $55
to put $55 no I'm saying you're looking at a yard that would typically qualify for your minimum price
and then you give them that door hanger that says the higher price but then you put your real price
on there so that was one of the things I learned from spends Chris go I don't know where he got that
from he may have got it from someone on YouTube but he's putting a price rate on there and I'm
gonna tell you so he's up to last time we talked last Thursday he was up to I think 98 customers
and he was basically closing two customers a day using these door hangers and his his website
she's what am I trying to get out his request form from job where he also uses job or so
that's one of the things you can do but five rounds nine rounds the house you're you're currently
working that the two houses on one house on either set and across the street three houses that's
fabs nine rounds is two houses on the sides of your house that you're doing on one side of the street
and across the five houses that's nine around so you got four over here a fab across the street
that's how you can get a whole lot of people in the same street my man M spice I didn't see him in a
while but he had twenty last year he had twenty five houses on one street that didn't just happen by
him coming to the neighborhood and cutting one yard and leaving that only happens by
putting those things on people's doors and then showing up consistently each and every week
it probably started out with one then it went to two then it went to four then it went to 10 and
then it went from 10 to 15 to 20 to 25 and before you know it he spends I don't know however many
hours there just taking care of 25 properties on one street think how profitable that is
that happens with five and nine rounds now I talked about printing door hangers that's another thing
that you can do I cannot remember the website that spence gave me for door hangers but you I cannot
remember that do me a favor if you're interested in that I'm going to hit him up because I don't see
him in here I'm a he's on vacation right now about and then he's about to come to Pittsburgh but
whenever I do talk to him next I will get that website so if you're interested in that follow me
on Instagram or subscribe on YouTube DM me or email me and I will give you with that what that
website is and if you have a good website for that throw it down in the comments section man be
a light to someone else's path so that they could go out and win in life all right so if you got
some hookups man hook some people up now print those door hangers out also some neighborhoods are
going to be more profitable than others okay like if you're in the hood right your minimum price
might only get to $45 right but with eventually we want to migrate from the places that are more
low profit when you're first started out and you get better equipment and you don't have to wait
to have the dope equipment before you go to nice neighborhoods all right but you'll have more
success if you have if you have nicer equipment when you get to those nice neighborhoods just
and my humble opinion all right but once you've been in it for a little bit and you maybe you
was in a 45 as you can max it out 45 as much as you're getting all right but there's neighborhoods
around you most likely that are those 80 85 man the properties are going to be a little bit bigger
but they're going to be more fun to maintain you will have much less stress in nicer neighborhoods
typically than you will in you know lower profit neighborhoods and this ain't because of anything
other than people who have disposable income they ain't as worried in most cases if you do a good job
if you out there leave your stragglers and breaking stuff and you know cutting stuff with
doll blades and bringing disease and weeds in the people's yards yeah they're going to fire
you're as immediately quickly as soon as they find out that you ain't about this real game
but if you're in the real game and you practicing you getting your shots up you you get your
reps in and you getting better and you watching things and you and you learning from other people
who are doing it at a high level and you and you emulating their moves and adding up to your
game like my man Lamont said get it down from everybody make your own dollar if you if that's
what if that's the game you plan and that's the life you living when you get into the nice
neighborhoods your world's going to change then you're going to understand something like I got this
I'm a beast at this right and now these people ain't even bothering me so now you just be out there
stress-free killing the game making sure you get in paid cash cash in your bank account because
you got cards on file because another thing man people got a little bit of disposable income not
saying that they ain't really watching their bank account because they are we all should be
but they could put their card on file and as long as their grass is cut on time like it's
supposed to be or it's communicated to them why it hasn't been or that you're going to be there the
next day or a day early or whatever they ain't bothering you that car going to get charged cool
your bank account going to have the money in it two days later then you're going to go cut the
yard cool as long as you keep doing that you can be going all right so map out high-profit neighborhoods
maybe you ain't in them yet but I mean hell if you already get 20 30 40 clients and they all
in this one type of environment grand branch out try and map out something in a different area that
has people with more disposable income and last post for that neighborhood domination
there are Facebook groups for particular neighborhoods I live in one and one of the things I see my
man Tommy do all the time and my wife is going to start doing it for me too because I don't be on
Facebook as much in the neighborhood groups as she is but there's people in these neighborhood groups
specifically for certain areas and they are looking for things you need to be active in their
turn your notifications on if they're if they're turned off because we're not I don't care
about notifications on Facebook for my regular page I truly don't the people who are doing social
media to me stupid I mean social media I don't care about the I care but the people that I want
the high school with I ain't on here to see about their kids or to see what they're doing on their
vacation I don't care about none of that I hope that they have an amazing life and I hope that
their children are healthy and all of that stuff and I wish them well and everything that they do
but the notifications are for my Facebook business page so when people see something on there
that's what I care about so put your stuff out there for getting business on your business page
if you do not have a Facebook business page I implore you to start one it looks so much more
professional when you respond to someone with your business page then it does from your social media
page that maybe has 800 people that you knew in high school they don't care but the people who
follow your business page and they see your work maybe you're making social media posts or whatever
they get to see your face and they get to see the person that they're going to be
charging with taking care of their property and now your face is out there and now your work is
out there and now you've given someone a reason to even trust the thing that you do because I'm
telling people get paid first get paid first the reason people will pay McDonald's and Wendy's and
the fast food restaurants first before they get their food is because their brands are already
established and how they do things and why you have to do them this way because it's their rules
not yours and we're the same way but you have to have that social proof to show people that you
know what you're doing so that they can trust you and if they trust you they ain't going to think about
it no more all right so get in those local Facebook groups and make sure that you are posting
within those groups I'm getting back on that now as we are trying to grow more in my local area
than we have been in the past but that's what I'm doing and last but certainly not least as we get
ready to close this show we've talked about past customers and what to do send the kickoff email
send text message reminders to last year's clients and call your top 10 we talked about Google
uh asking for new reviews from your past customers posting updates with your spring services on
there uh upload and fresh pictures and photos or videos of your work and then verify your contact
information your hours and all of those things are um updated for 2026 sometimes we have things on
may say 2025 prices or something like that update that stuff so that it is current for this year
and has your current prices on there because maybe just maybe you're going to add a price
increase for inflation all right well it's something that we need to be doing especially on those
lower paying customers then we talked about neighborhood domination and we got five planning your
five and nine around strategy we got printing your door hangers or your other print marketing
which could be door hangers business cards pamphlets uh the yard signs and there's other things too
but those are the main ones mapping out high profit neighborhoods and then posting in those
neighborhood groups all right and sometimes you have to get um sometimes you have to get approval
to be in these groups because they don't want to be solicited and there either a lot of times
just like people don't like to have people knock on their doors in some cases but if someone asks for
something in there man make sure that you're responding give yourself a shot doors only open for
those who knock on them so neighborhood domination and last let's get to visibility one of the things
that my homeboy Cedric is a stickler about and I need to get on this because
I'm out there playing Jane right now we raw dog in it all right but having
clean truck signs having your business name your phone number or website I would encourage you
again the phone number is cool but if you could get people to go through your website
then it gives you a way to track everything in a way that's not in your head or just stuck on your
phone in your recent calls or voicemails when someone puts a request in through your website
it gets saved in your CRM if you hopefully have that linked up and if you don't and they send you
an email and you put all that stuff into your CRM manually still you need to have people going
through that website in some way shape or form so you can get them on that request form it just
makes everything that much easier so I've seen some people who don't even put a phone number on
decided or truck anymore instead they write their website really big or they even put QR
codes on their trucks now because it is just convenience man just convenience so having clear
truck signage and trailer signage is absolutely awesome especially for route density if you're
going to be consistent and having longevity within these neighborhoods it is important to have
some sort of truck signage people don't really buy stuff off people with t-shirts so that's why
we have this small low I do have my number on my back but no one has ever once on my request form
when it says how did you hear about a said a t-shirt now that might be different for other people
and this is literally all I wear everywhere I go my logo on my back on my chest on my hat when I
have a hoodie on I got my mac landscape and hoodie on and still like I said people have come up to
me because of it but I have never got one customer sign and they become a recurring customer because
of a t-shirt but I've got a bunch from my trailer I've got a bunch of people who are just so
ecstatic when I pull up with that trailer my enclosed trailer I'm talking about and it has
my caricature logo on it and then I get out and they put a face to the logo and they're like oh it's
you you're just more gray and I'm like yeah I know I asked a graphic designer to make it a little
more gray but you know when I got that put on there six years ago there wasn't this much gray in my
beard all right and boys getting low old now so now I got gray hairs up but they still see that oh you
have a a beautiful smile and I'd be like thank you I appreciate that that's why I put that on
the side because whenever I get out the truck that's what you get that guy right there is who's
going to get out the truck and actually cut your yard and I got stickers for it too so if the
little kids are there we can give them a sticker baby guess what the kids like you most likely
the parents gonna like you if you're doing good work that's the prerequisite for everything you
got to do good work all right but clean truck signage again make sure your website or this is
number that was number I was number 12 is clean truck signage we got number 13 is what I just
mentioned is making sure that your all right make sure if you go and put your phone number on
there that has to be big I've seen a lot of people and this is a way to start right when you're
when you get your truck sign and everything is a lot I personally started with magnets from
Vista print and that's cool right but a magnet from Vista print is small we want stuff to be big right
so your phone number has to be huge like be huge so it's so they can see it when it's parked
outside they ain't got squinter eyes they don't got to go outside come up and meet you they just see
that big phone number or that big website and you got a QR code on there now you're professional
you're gonna get a lot of people that way because guess what and the day and age that we live in
whenever I was a kid we went to the mall and we talk to girls right we talk to girls on the phone
we talk to people face to face now people talk to people on social media and they're never really
themselves and it's a very uncomfortable sometimes for people to talk to people face to face
so it could be awkward at times but it's not awkward for them to go on the internet
use your QR code and put it and put a put their information in it's a little easier to talk
on the phone than it is to talk face to face for some people all right but this is why you need to
have a welcoming look on your face don't be out there me mugging and pissed off and mad this is
why you need to have your prices raised so that you could be happy when you're out there and when
people see happy they feel comfortable around happy they want to talk to happy nobody wants to talk
to mad and mean and angry and pissed off all right you get more flies with honey then you do with
vinegar and this other guy added something on and that he said you get I can't remember exactly
what he said but he was in here last time a lot of people don't want to he says talk question
mark no sir they don't want to talk all right but if you have the the clean truck signs
and a big phone number that's readable awesome and in less update your website and your banner
for the spring right on your visibility sometimes in the winter I had changed my stuff to
and I have to update my website just full disclosure all right this is I'm telling you stuff
because I'm doing I'm in the process of doing this stuff right so my website at one point had
my truck plow on the front because we were in the winter and now I re-changed it back to it has
one of my my Toro 52 motor on some stripes and but that's an old picture I have to update that
now that we're in the spring and things are going to start growing who knit the lawn not the
lawn care kid boy I can't remember that but he he was cool Alan Haye I can't remember is Jake
Jake the lawn care kid I think that's his name I heard him talking one time about
pictures and how the picture should go with the season right so in the fall you want to have maybe
a fall fall tones browns and yellows and oranges and things like that when you get to the winter you
want grays and whites and different winter feeling things when we get to the spring we want to
green and bright and sunlight and so when you go on your website change things for that right we
want to change for the seasons and now we're about to go into the spring the spring rush is
happening this is why this whole series is going on for the last three weeks is talking about the
spring rush is updating your stuff so that it looks spring ready maybe you got mulch pictures now
on your banner maybe you got your brand new lawn mower that you just purchased and you go cut some
stripes real quick just to have it looking beautiful on those stripes is a brand new lawn mower you
know all you got all these different things that you're going to be doing you're going to be putting
in flowers or plant and perennials and new things take pictures of that upload it on to your website
so that it looks like spring because that's where we are then when we get the summer you can make
some changes again as you're going to be probably doing some different services in the summer then
you do in the spring like shrub trimming and things like that so those are the 14 things that I
got for you will go back through them real quick the leads ready checklist it is calling your past
customers right past customers send season kickoff emails send text message reminders that's
number two number three is call your top 10 best customers we got Google we want to ask for new
reviews post updates of spring services upload fresh job pictures and then verify your contact
information that's four through seven we got eight is plan your five and nine around strategies
number nine is order your print marketing door hangers things like that number 10 is map out how
profit neighborhoods man get into higher profit neighborhoods will really
prepare your business so you can buy that new equipment maybe get that new truck maybe hire
that first employee or that next employee right and if you don't have your prices right
like Drew Carey you ain't going to win the prize at the end on the showcase showdown all right you
ain't going to do that so get into those high profit neighborhoods number 11 is post and local
Facebook groups and answer to the people who actually post in those Facebook groups when they're
asking for the services that you provide man there's a hole you might see a comment you might see 20
comments or I know one of the comments is going to be my man Tommy with TM landscape and saying hey we
got you all right I know that for a fact and it's competitive but you don't have any opportunity
I may hell DM them directly right forget comment and back on the post they ask for DM them directly
beat the people all right but that's number 11 number 12 is invisibility we want to have clean
truck signage on our trucks and our trailers and you can even add stickers and stuff to your
to your equipment and everything just to make sure people know what's what number 12
that was truck signage number 13 is confirming that your stuff is readable whether it's your website
or your phone number and last but not least is update your website banner and convert everything
over for the spring one of the things that people have asked me about is for members
of the channel if we can do something extra like a pre or post show so let me know down in the
comments um would that be something that you're interested in if I started a post show for people
who become channel members on YouTube is that something that you're interested in because
I'm down to do it if that's what the people want so just let me know you can DM me at Mac
underscore landscaping 412 at gmail.com or let me know in the DMs on Instagram and we will make
whatever that majority decision is happen for you so yeah that's that but yeah so let's get to
the last shot as I get ready to close the show the last shot is like I said at the beginning
be generous with your time your talent your treasures and your prayers all right and then be ready
to have longevity in this game the people who last the longest are the people who are the ultimate
success stories one of the people I like the most when I talk about people who've had longevity
in this world is warm buffet he started out in the damn 20 or 30s or 40s or something with
investments and he is now the investment uh the best investor in the history of the planets
is is what they a lot of people say and he's invested in Coca-Cola when it was like 40
cent a share and now it's worth billions of dollars so when you invest in the long haul and you
have longevity and whatever you do if you're doing it right and you got good people around you
you will not fail so keep good people around you if you want to have longevity in this game
I encourage you to come to the 2026 women life meetup service business showcase this Saturday
and I would love to have some longevity when it comes to a friendship and a relationship
with you so if you would like to sign up do me a favor hit over to my underscore landscaping 412
on instagram give me a follow and then hit that link tree and sign up for the event it is 100% free
need you to RSVP so I know how much food that we will be providing when it comes to the pizzas that's
basically the reason but yeah man have some longevity and then be generous with your time your talents
your treasures and your prayers because giving starts the process to receiving and I want you to
receive your dreams I want you to receive all of the treasures that God has blessed you with and if
you would just give just a little bit of your talents your time your prayers or your treasures
God will have you receive everything that you want in this world and in this life as always I love
you I appreciate you I wish you nothing but success and remember the creator created you to be
creative so get out there and create whatever you want in your life because you deserve it I'm out peace
