All right. Welcome to the Gators online show presented by Modelo College football season is Modelo season and we're excited to have the official beer sponsor of the College football play with us this season's act. Tell us a little bit more about Modelo. Absolutely. It's a it's college football season folks. We finally made it. We are here. We got to see some last night and that means college football season is Modelo season. Saturdays are for the gridiron and survey says the fight songs the fans the rivalry trophies are all better with an ice cold Modelo in your hand. It's not just game day. It's tradition and those who keep college football traditions alive deserve a Modelo. Modelo is the official beer sponsor of the college football playoff drink responsibly. Modelo a special beer imported by crown imports

Chicago Illinois. Look at that. Oh man. I can go for a few of those right now but we have to work and we have to do a show first and it is Friday morning. Yeah that's right. It is pretty early but as the saying goes it's five o'clock somewhere. So listen Zach. Hey it's a big game this week because it's game one though the off season was long. I can't remember an off season this long in Gainesville anticipation has just been enormous. Florida has a new coach a new starting quarterback a rebuilt offensive line entirely new staff a new energy a new vibe a new everything and John Somerall the first year coach of the Florida Gators gets to show off his product for the first time Saturday night in the swamp. I think kickoff's at 7.45 the Florida Gators against the Florida Atlantic owls who by the way have given Florida a hard time at least one game that I remember in the past so it's it's going to be an exciting day because really you know nobody really knows what to expect we've written a ton of stories that we've had intel pieces and we know what people

inside the program think we know what people outside the program think but none of that really matters until you get on the field. John Somerall said it best Zach he told us a couple weeks ago he said look I think I'm learning a lot in practice but you really don't know what you have in an individual or in your team until you get out there and you start playing games. So what is your gut telling you about this team right now what can we expect from these guys. Yeah first of all they're going to be ready right I mean these guys have been working they've been anticipating the start of the season after four or eight mark last year I think that they got some get back on their minds and they kind of want to show that what they put on the field last season is not with this team is capable of a lot of those guys are back but a lot of new faces certainly I mean half the team is new and it's a brand new coaching staff so these guys want to come out and set the tone for 2026 not going to be a cake walk in any stretch of the imagination we will be joined by Ken LaVica the voice of FAU football here shortly to get a better sense of the

owls and how they could challenge the the gators especially on the offensive side of the ball but before to care who the opponent is week one like they are trying to come out for the start of the john somera era send a message set the tone these guys are healthy that's that's a big theme with this team because that was a big theme with last year's team they we're not healthy going into the year they're ready to go Saturday night key. Zach it almost feels like it's the perfect opponent now I'll tell you why because it's not a complete cake walk at all I mean FAU went only four or eight last year but like we said they've given the gators a tough time before but Florida should be significantly better than them across the roster right so theoretically they should win by a comfortable margin in theory but FAU is just good enough and solid enough at multiple positions and in what they do offensively that it should be a good test quite frankly so it's kind of the best of both worlds you really again in theory if you're the Florida gators you should come away with a comfortable win but also learn something also be able to figure out a little bit more about what you

have as a roster in other words not a total cupcake which you're probably going to see in week two against FCS Campbell but a team that can actually kind of stretch you out a little bit make you play hard for for 60 minutes FAU passes the ball quite well the quarterback will get into the details of him through for a lot of yards last year they've got some solid receivers some solid playmakers Zach Kittley's the youngest coach in the football bowl subdivision of college football and he's known as being an offensive whiz so there are challenges that lay ahead of course we all think Florida should win and probably win by a lot but again you don't think it's going to be like 70 to nothing and quite frankly if they use just good enough to keep floor on its heels that where they've got to be focused they've got to be ready they're ready in the sense that they've waited all summer to play but they've got to be ready to actually play an opponent that's going to be excited it's going to be their Super Bowl and they're going to get after it so I do think it's the perfect situation for Florida what are your thoughts on that yeah I mean ideally maybe you could have played Campbell

first and then and then FAU second however you know Florida's going to get tested in this game there are going to be some things that show up that they have to work on and if there's any silver lining with how it's set up week one and week two you would think that Florida should be able in the second game of the season to come out and iron out some of those kinks and work on some of their issues and actually execute and fix those problems against a Campbell team that they should just really be able to do whatever they want against and you can't just do whatever you want against FAU so again there's going to be some things that that show up I think offensively for Florida it's probably what you like I mean the hours were not that great on the defensive side of the ball last season and we'll get into that with Ken but for Florida they should be able to establish an offensive identity get the old line and Aaron Fylo going but on the defensive side of the ball I mean this this is quite the challenge this is the number one passing offense in the country from

a year ago number one passing offense in the country from a year ago the quarterback's back is leading receivers back they push the pace they go four down fourth down they're super aggressive this is again not your typical week one you know cupcake opponent and and sometimes FAU has come in here and they they have not been able to match up for Florida maybe in one phase of the game they should be able to do it Saturday now that being said the gators are the better unit defensively and they should be able to to play to a level that can that can get them the results that they want and they should be able to make adjustments and improve over the game and and look I just wrote about it at gators online bra white and his scheme and those players they are going to do things as well that confuse and stress the hours on offense so it's going to be it's going to be fun to watch that chess match yeah you know so again I'm going to catch grief like I always do what do you what do you tell my neighbor that we're going to kill this team okay I look I understand your feelings there but when you go back and you you start putting the pieces together you see that

yes FAU is a capable team they weren't as bad as the record was last year kind of like Florida's quite frankly they did play one big 10 team and that was Maryland and they lost 39 to 7 but a 10 point loss to FAU that that was bad a 27 point or 28 point loss 27 point loss to Memphis that was in great but then there's a win over rice then there's a win by 20 points over UAB again bad loss to usf that only lost to Navy by 10 a Navy team that quite frankly always beats somebody that's pretty good a win over Tulsa by 19 and then they went to Tulane which was coached by obviously of course John Somerall last year and Tulane won the American conference and in that game FAU only lost by 11 at Tulane then they started against UConn the next week and only lost by three and at the end of the season got blown out by a pretty good East Carolina team but there were enough games in there that were 50 50 type games where had they won those games they might have had a winning season

now Gennie's out big deal they're not in the SEC I understand that but in their conference with the first year coach you're looking for progress it looks like they got better throughout the years and now this is year two was that kitley his head coach again only 35 years old offensive was they say you know worked at Texas Tech he's you know his young OCs really worked his way up quickly and the ranks and is one of the more highly respected offensive minds in college football and then you've got a quarterback in Kaden Van Camp who again like you said Zach threw for 34 hundred yards last year he's got good receivers as well so year two in the system you know they could be better offensively let me point out is that you said that they were number one in passing offense in the country last year that was by like a 20 yard margin so they were way out front everybody now it didn't translate to wins but again that's enough where if you're flooring you're like okay this is something we as a program have to be concerned about and then also floor is got a secondary that is considered the big question mark maybe of the entire well definitely

of the entire defense possibly the entire team outside of offensive line and obviously people want to see what's going on in quarter but on the defense there's no tie it into yeah no that's right there are a bunch of as I said that I'm like I was a bunch of other ones too but on defense it's all about the second year so the secondary probably is going to get tested you also get to see what you have in your defensive line can they put pressure on guys so there's a lot that can be learned in this game for the Florida Gators so again I think it's a good solid test yeah and then as far as keys to the game you know we got to start with that like I saw some some money comment in the section they're not they are a cupcake again they're not a cupcake offensively okay the owls are not a cupcake offensively as a team yes but offensively they are they they can and will challenge for so that's the number one key to the game yeah is handle their pace Florida has been practicing it all week they've been stressing it to their defense you got to get lined up

you got to communicate you got a hustle you can't have ma's you can't get out of position that is what FAU is going to try to do to you and how they're going to try and stress the Gators so that right there is is the number one key to the game to me um I think if the Gators can handle their pace and not allow the owls to put together some drives get some three and outs that's how they have a chance to run away with this game I think that's the number one key yeah I mean for me the number one would be I kind of I felt pretty good about Florida's offense going in this game I just want to see obviously the secondary is going to be have some challenges I mean look I mean now we're getting I'm getting heat for saying they're not a cupcake whatever man I know I was the one that said that I said that I said this isn't your typical cupcake yeah I mean we didn't say that I look Florida's favored by 27 and a half points for a reason guys but my point is that you know this team can actually give provide Florida with something it can learn from most cupcakes me

correct so to me I think the number one thing I'm looking at it from a defensive of point of you for this one because you know we've heard a lot of good things about Florida's defensive line I know the question marks are in the second room keep hearing about the defensive line this group could be good really good maybe elite they're comfortable with what they have the staff they like the rotation they like the the a line they like the b line they like the c line so they feel good about where they're at there but we need to see it we need to see it so uh one of the biggest keys for Florida in this game in this whole season Zach is going to be getting off the field on third down because if they you play very fast they're going to try to get up they're going to try to do things really fast and and like Miles Graham said you look up and all of a sudden they've run eight plays and they're halfway down the field so yeah for Florida it's going to be getting off the field on third down and you do that by generating pressure from generally the outside now on third and long you're going to put a bunch of defensive ends there and just go after the quarterback since you don't have to worry about setting the edge and all that stuff but can Florida's defensive ends get into the backfield and that's L. J. McCray Cameron James Emmanuel O. Jane Woods K. J.

four and Kofiya sorry who is getting pumped up by the staff a little bit so can those six guys generate the pressure that Florida needs to be successful in the SEC this is a test game they need to make progress they need to be disruptive because I get news for exactly if you're struggling against the tackles against FA year if you're not generating pressure it probably is doesn't bode well quite frankly so we need to see what they can do against the team that's what I say this is a perfect opponent because FAU does have a good concepts in the passing game they know what they're doing and that can prepare you for tougher games against teams that throw down the road Ole Miss not LSU but they're you never know maybe they play in the SCC championship game but teams that throw the ball right if they're still in the SCC that's right and so there are things that can be learned from this so I'm going to be watching those defensive ends and edges and saying that can they get to the ball can they create havoc they got to they have to another key to the game for me kind of playing off of handling the tempo and and making sure that you don't have any

misassiments blown coverages another key to the game that kind of is right there is also on the defensive side of the ball tackling um hum tackling in the first game of the season again against the team that's pushing the pace that's stressing you out that's probably making you tired hands on the hips you know what I'm saying tackling is going to be something that has to show up in this game it's something that I'll be watching for and it's something unfortunately that Florida specifically in the secondary has had trouble with in training camp if that if that's one thing that has been an issue that has shown up it is that so Florida needs to show up and be a sure tackling team that's again it's week one you're probably going to have some misses you're going to have missed tackles in every game but they can't be egregious they can't be missed tackles that you give up a touchdown on because you missed the tackle again which has happened in training camp um and because

they have not done a lot of live tackling you know they've certainly worked on it but you haven't played so this is your first time for a real game full go there there's nothing half speed about this and to see how those guys show up tackling is to be something I'm watching for yeah another thing I want to see is I want to you know not just tackling but the key to the game right like for the Florida offense to be anything again we always think about the quarterback I do too I watch the ball I sometimes don't watch the line of scrimmages closely as as I I should but we think the offensive line may be better than what was expected and we think that internally that the three inside guys the center and the two guard terraces are more not not Jay Harris and TJ Chanan will be strengths of that line and we think that Bryce love it the starting left tackle is also a good run locker but what we don't know so that would give you four even if I'm actually a gorge the the likely starter right tackle isn't is a good of run blockers the other four guys that gives

you four pretty good what you think run blockers but what we don't know is how can these guys how do they pass block how are they going to pass by how are the tackles going to protect Aaron Filo so a key to the game for me Zach is seeing what these guys can do uh again against the team that is not going to be as talented as the teams you're going to face down the road so it's perfect it allows you to assess where you are get better try different combinations try different uh what formations really work what plays really they're they're going to be able to test out a lot of things with this group but I want to seize that and it's a huge key how do these guys pass block how do they handle the edges and outside backers from the other team and I wanted to get your thought on that too because we don't really know we we just don't I mean Bryce Love it was a right tackle last year a Mechie Gorge was a attack on a guard at Stanford Harrison Moore was the center at Georgia Tech promising year but you know TJ Shanahan started half the season at Penn State so we don't really

know we think they're going to be tough physical run blocking team which is key obviously but we don't know how their pass blocking is going to be so again key to the game for me no doubt and in my last key uh raw rights can't tackle first time hearing about this it would not be if you read gators online I'll just say that um but in look we're talking about oh I'm nitpicking here okay so that that's just something that I'll be watching for third key to the game and I like that key the past protection with the new tackles with Lakota DePri all the new tight ends that that's certainly a key uh also with Luke Carporing and a mere Jackson seeing how they progress as blockers my third key to the game is is on offense look I I mean I expect Florida to have its way against the owls and on that side of the ball like they should be able to control the line of scrimmage they should be able to run the ball they should be able to make plays in the passing game

I am looking for Florida to have a clean football game with Aaron Filo running the operation that was the reason that he won the job and there was also one of the things that he had to do to win the job was cut down on turnovers which he did in the second scrimmage so number one have a clean game no turnovers don't put the ball on the ground not just him but everybody and then also again we're nitpicking here but like that first scrimmage was not clean like they had multiple fall starts delay of games and you're going to get possibly some of that in week one because it is the season opener but trying to limit those mistakes iron out whatever issues that you had in that first scrimmage now to their credit they were much cleaner in the second scrimmage and didn't have any delay games or fall starts again I don't know how much there is offensively that could hold the gators back like they should be able to have their way against the

owls offensively but I think what could is certainly if they can't pass protect like he said but also if they're not playing clean if they turn the ball over if they're having a lot of penalties and shoot themselves in the foot that's what will keep this from from them covering the spread and uh is that I think another key to the game and key to the season is my final one is depth emergence like you know I think Florida with its starters could probably get away and still win pretty comfortably in game one we'll see but what depth emerges and that's going to be a key in this game as well because you don't want to wear guys out early in the season that you don't have to wear in fact John Sumer on Gator talk this week with Sean Kelly said look man just everybody knows we want to make sure galling Jayden Baugh is healthy and fresh down the road when it matters most so conserving guys and so I want to see what depth players

emerge in this game and again that's more of a key toward down the road but it's something certainly I want to watch sure no it's matters yeah matters a lot he said in that second scrimmage in that first scrimmage was there any did you get any intel on any 12 men on the field on special teams or anything like that not that I could gather I think they they've been pretty clean knock on wood there and listen boy if they don't get 11 on the field John knows he's going to hear about it they they're well that's like a this has become a sin in game so all right Zach I got a reading an app for cash app an app an ad for cash app and you know if Florida is looking bad on the field John Sumer was going to be ticked and and who leave me but here's another person it's going to be ticked if you're if you're a parent you're frustrated you're trying to figure out as help your kid learn the value of money and save money and all that stuff and stuff with cash app right now Zach you know what's one lesson you wish you'd learned earlier and how are you trying to pass that down to your children for all the parents out there with teenagers we know you're

our great sponsor so in the future we're gonna have after the game like what were the Madelo moments of the game but this week we're gonna break out our crystal balls and we're gonna say look these could be the Madela moments okay these are gonna be the guys who produce the Madela look guys sometimes we gotta do this on the fly we're not grainy acts here okay but so this segment is presented by mazello we will have players to watch before every game though that's right presented by Madelo again Zach what are gonna be some of the players to watch and some of the Madelo moments we expect these guys to create this weekend against FAU absolutely well I mean I think it goes without saying but but the quarterback he needs to certainly have a big game I mentioned playing cleaner earlier but you know I think folks are gonna be watching what Aaron Filo can do can can he hits the big plays in the passing game push it down the field I think he will I think this should be a game that he kind of build some momentum has some success and gets his Florida

career off to a good start it will be interesting to see how much jade and ball we see and get in this game you know is he gonna be able to break off some runs early maybe get the first touchdown of the season help the gators build a lead and then and then get out of there and save his legs um I'm not sure what his usage is gonna be I don't know that this is necessarily a matchup where you can go in it with a plan to put him on a pitch count like you gotta run them you gotta set the tone and I think that that starts with with number 13 and then on the defensive side of the ball a lot of guys that I'm looking forward to watching but I got to start with number zero man like this is his year to kind of take on a full-time starting role I think he's Florida's best defender I think that you know he's somebody that in this new scheme with this new plan of attack under bragg white can really wreak havoc and I think Florida needs him to do that in this game to try to throw off FAU's

offense and and give that quarterback something to think about and something to be worried so he's trying to get 12.5 sacks this season Keith I think Saturday night is at least the time to get the first one yeah okay so for me I mean on offense so we're gonna have more guys but I look to me it's gonna start with you're thinking about the quarterback and that's what everybody would say and obviously I get that but sometimes I gotta you gotta deviate from the the normal a little bit can't say the same picks as me Keith I'm thinking it's Bryce love it like okay man we were I wasn't even hearing much about the guy the whole offseason and we find out that he had this incredible offseason no doubt and he looks like a million bucks and and if he can do something in the final couple weeks of a fall practice you know maybe he's guy's gonna play a lot next thing we know he's starting left tackle and scrimmage number two and now he's gonna start in this in game one at left tackle so a lot has happened and and Johnson was always said this guy not only looks great but this guy has the physical skill set to be a very good not just an okay tackle a very good tackle but

now we're talking about you know he didn't have a great season last year you know only started two games at right tackle then was benched actually played pretty well late the season played over 50 snaps against that fish you kept it up here kept it together up here so credit to him you're before those freshmen all SEC you're before that I think he was red sure so now we're in year four this is sort of that maker break year for an offensive line either you are something or you aren't something right Zach I mean like it's year four other positions it's year two but for offensive line it takes while years three year three super important year four is this guy dude or not so there's been a lot of talk about how well Bryce love it's done the last couple weeks so I want to see it in action I want to see this guy you know is he going to be a dominant run block or we think he's going to be a solid run blocker but can he also be that left tackle I mean he he was a right tackle us there's a big difference between those two positions so Bryce love it on offense on defense you know I went back and forth on this because my breakout players you know Zach was one of the guys you really like a lot defensive tackle Jeremiah McClaubt but I'm thinking for this

game I feel like I know what Brendan Bett can do I know what a lot of these guys in the front seven can do I know what Jayden Woods can do although I think I need to I'd like to see him elevate a couple levels this year I like he's gonna have 12 and a half sacks he's got to show it's but it's L.J. McCray because I feel like I feel like he still is sort of an unknown we have people harshly calling him like I don't want to say bust but they're like hey you better do something like that I was hurt all like all last year I mean that wouldn't necessarily his fault play four snips and he tried to play he went out there hurt and got hurt again or after being hurt so you know the guy is is not like some guy that's just coasting here and he's worked as a house off this off season's out everybody said this you and I both heard this in the spring then we heard it in May June July that he he's a guy that again transformed his body he had a little baby fat when he got to Florida's a five star side but this is his year he has gone from the jack position to the strong side defense events so that means he's got a lot of chores he's got to set the edge in the run game but also they think because of his great athleticism and length got the guy's

6.6 270 something pounds they think he can also get into the backfield create pressure on the quarterback and if you get in the backfield he probably blow up some runs too so theoretically this is a guy that has a lot of the tools he's got the bodies got the length he's got the reach he's got the skill set and he fought off the and he's come back from the injury that caused him to miss most last year he's going to be hungry so when you put it all together is that that usually when a guy's got the talent and the hunger that usually translates into something big so I'm going to keep an eye on on L.J. McCray because again getting off the field on third down crucial in this game but also setting the edge is going to be critical for the rest of the season so we need to be able to see this is going to be a preview of what he can become now obviously at that position there are other players camera James is talented we think a manual oh is going to be able to do a lot of different things and then also Zach with L.J. I kind of want to see where they put them on third down did they think that he's strictly a wide guy on third down or they are third long or they think and okay we're going to get all our ends and edges out there on third down and in that situation L.J.

maybe goes in the middle maybe he's a guy that plays inside I don't know so I'm curious to see what they do with him there no doubt no doubt and before we bring Ken and Keith what would you say is going to be your Madela moment what would you who's going to score the first touchdown of the season what's your prediction I don't want to steal your thunder here I if you want to go for it Jaden boss is going to score the first touchdown of the season unless it's a long play or something or a defensive touchdown or special teams play we don't we don't have but I would say if it's a traditional drive it's going to be Jaden Bob but we'll see what about you okay I'm going to actually go Eric Singleton I think that that connection between FILO and him what we'll show up early early in the game so do we I'm going to get to one Adred Wilk real quick before we bring in

Ken I want to give a shout out to our buddy at my perfect franchise dot net let me pull that up real quick Andy yeah man Andy Ludicke who is a partner in with this show for a long time and we're happy to have him back again for this fall are you a displaced corporate executive or wanting to put your career in your own hands are you an experienced entrepreneur wanting to diversify well Andy Ludicke and my perfect franchise dot net can help Andy is a huge college sports fan and franchise veteran having own multiple franchises and businesses using his expertise he helps others find their American dream through a very thorough consultation and evaluation process call Andy put your life and career in your own hands best of all his services are 100% free to you so what do you have to lose fine your perfect franchise at my perfect franchise dot net you can call her text him at 444 973 9901 all right let's bring him in here where is Ken there is Ken hey Ken

voice of the house how do you pronounce your last name La Vika or La Vika La Vika well listen first of all we appreciate you stopping by to talk with us and and kind of filling us in on on Zach Kittley's team and so thank you so much again Ken La Vika the voice of FAU football Ken I wanted to ask you I was looking back at last years game by game for FSU or FAU to look a little bit like Florida's in the sense that they were probably better than their record set there were some hiccups obviously some games they were I'm sure that they didn't perform that well but it looked like a team that had a chance to have a winning record is that a fair assessment oh yeah absolutely I mean there were a ton of missed opportunities Florida Atlantic had a chance to win at Navy couldn't do it had a chance to really have John Somerals two lane team on the ropes and could not find a way in the final nine minutes of that game and then had Yukon beaten in the penultimate game of the season and ended up losing that game so it very well could have been a six win campaign could have been a seven win campaign the problem is Florida Atlantic's defense just could not hold up they

were on the field a ton last year and FAU's worst turnover differential in the sport really sunk this football team a year ago and despite that there were definitely opportunities to at least get to six so Ken what did they do to address the issues on defense this off season well they've gotten a lot bigger and a lot deeper along the defensive front especially on the interior so you've got CJ dog get an American conference preseason selection and then you've got next to him Blake Burris who is 65 to 55 or I'm sorry 65 325 and this dude can range sideline to sideline he's an SMU transfer started his college career Texas tackle with set kitley there is the offensive coordinator but there is also depth Wilkie Denod former Mississippi state man who came to Florida Atlantic two years ago in the transfer portal he was playing edge and he ended up putting on 42

pounds in the off season now he's going to play on the interior yeah he got I saw him in the spring and then I saw him going into fall camp and I didn't recognize him he he definitely was he was a gorge in on the peanut butter during the course of of the summer so they think they're quicker and they're bulkier and they're better on the interior they needed more on the edge and that's where you've got Jonathan backs who they've brought in Jay Craybell who they've brought in on the edges good speed so that right there that was the main priority and then fundamentally this was just a bad tackling team a year ago and that's got to improve too and that's not anything you know is going to be better until you actually see it take place yeah good point no doubt obviously one thing they were elite at camp was throwing the football they get their quarterback returning receiver back just how potent was that passing offense last year and what was that like to see that come together I don't think it even came close to realizing his potential to be

quite honest because of the turnovers and get this guys I mean in all of group of six football no team has more roster retention than Florida Atlantic 54 players from a year ago come back to this football team and it's actually not even close the highest percentage of roster retention and like you said Kaden Veltkamp most passing yards per game in the country Easton Messer most receptions per game in the country 10th and all purpose yards last year you've got your starting left tackle back in Jacobian known are you're captain along the offensive front Vinnie fire cable is back you have a returning center in Braden cutting ham so across the board there are a lot of pieces returning but this passing game it because of the turnovers because the interceptions and Kaden Veltkamp played with a torn rotator cuff for the final seven weeks of the year which certainly contributed to the lack of accuracy but there was also a ton of pressure on him for a good portion

of the season and the running game left a ton to be desired but man when it was clicking whether it's Easton Messer or Dom Henry who by the way my medelo moment of the game first touchdowns going to be Dom Henry Florida Atlantic number two I'm just going to jump in I'm calling it right now I love it Dom Henry is a deep threat very much can beat you over the top did so a number of times last year caught in 89 yard touchdown on a fourth and 11 from Florida Atlantic's own 11 against Yukon last season that in and of itself gives you an idea of what Zach Kittley wants to do so yeah it was potent but it certainly because of the turnovers did not realize its full potential and then obviously another thing that stands out about FAU offensively is their pace what makes them so difficult to defend and how much is that kind of the staple and identity of their offense well I know that John Summerall and the the brand-wide defense has talked about it

in particular yeah they're stressed about it yeah yeah no and and it is high tempo and Florida Atlantic ran more place than anybody in America last year and there's a reason for it's get up to the line it snapped the ball it's go when Lane Kippen was at Florida Atlantic that was the quickest tempo that I've ever seen I think FAU last year things got a little bit ragged at times and it didn't quite meet the efficiency that Lane Kippen sides doing especially the one at Florida Atlantic but man when it is clicking they will get up there is absolute no huddle they've got everything synchronized and when it's at its best it is really hard for defenses now one aspect to think about though in this skies is my fourth trip to the swamp at a broadcast capacity I'm a very old man and have been at Florida Atlantic forever you're not going to be able to just no huddle and get up to the line especially prime time new head coach and all of the the pop and

circumstance that are going to surround this so they are going to go with the hand clamp there is going to be silent cop but they all they are going to be forced to huddle at times because of the the sheer volume of noise you understand that so that's going to be helpful for Florida but it's still going to be probably Tennessee S.K.P.A.S. probably LSU S.K.P.A.S if you're just going by SEC comparison I can I wanted to ask you about FAU receiver RJ Garcia the second and the reason is because obviously his father played basketball for the Florida Gators the former Gators guard Ronaldo Garcia who helped Florida when it's very first SEC basketball title back in 1989 RJ's from Tampa his dad was from Tampa as well so what kind of role he's a transfer from bowling green I think he also played me a Kansas State before that but what kind of role is he going to have any offense this year we're going to see a lot of RJ Garcia in the swamp on Saturday I think you are this is so I've been this is my 17th year at FAU and so that spans back to

Schnellenberger and it goes through 2015 when FAU got screwed and over time at the swamp that was passing her appearance in the back of the end zone final play but then through Lane Kiffin and then to this point that we're at now Florida Atlantic has never had a deeper receiver court then they have this season and RJ Garcia is a huge part of that and he started popping a little bit in the spring but then all of a sudden once the fall started you're saying yourself oh man he's going to play an integral role and so you've got Eastern Messier and Dom Henry who we talked about but then you also have Kelby Valsen who is phenomenal at Texas Tech Transfer he is electric so much so that Texas Tech practiced at FAU before they played in the Orange Bowl and of course acutely as all his Texas Tech connections and there were people within that program saying hey he's going to go into the portal most likely because we're just so we we've got the best receivers money can buy

and he's just getting squeezed out so you should pursue him ensuring off FAU did and one is services but then there's RJ Garcia and he's someone that can be a possession receiver he's not afraid to run over the middle you can throw a hitch to the outside he's going to be a main rotation receiver and I would honestly say that he could be the most important link because Eastern Messier is going to be double teamed all the time Dom Henry the the back end of the back seven is going to try and account for him over the top Kelby Valsen he's going to be the intermediate ball receiver RJ Garcia should have a lot of room and maneuver in this air raid offense and there's going to be a lot of yards after the catch for him I think it can my last question just from you know a guy that covers FAU from talking to your sources inside the program and also your own personal opinions who's the one player on the floor roster that you think FAU is most concerned about or should be most concerned about I mean you know the answer to that I think it's uh I think he's maybe other than number 13

yeah yeah the the big anvil in the backfield is uh is certainly who uh they're most worried about but listen Eric Singleton is an absolute beast track star and FAU uh it's sort of there there's talent on the outside defensively but it's very much going to be a baptism by fire for some of these guys and so that that's going to be a matchup that's a little bit dicey I think to the defensive coaching staff but they're anticipating that Florida's going to try and run it and run it and run it some more they're not going to put phylo in a chance where he can beat himself or he can beat the team uh they'll have him run play action but it's going to be a lot of jaden ball just hammering hammering hammering hammering maybe a little bit of wildcat but then you can't lose control of what's happening on the edges with the offense because I would argue other than ball in the backfield that receiving core that is the that's the the the prime rib of this Florida offense in

their fast and their strong and Singleton is all SCC-esque type of receiver so yeah that that's the guy right there uh that I think Florida the Florida Atlantic is is most worried about with that offensive side of the ball good stuff Ken uh final final question for me kind of a two-porter you know you mentioned this being your 17th season it's also my 17th season so congrats to us uh we're we're we're still we're still hanging around man that's right I want to ask you two part question on some roll um first of all what were your impressions of his two lane team last year when F.A. you played them and then second of all what do you just I mean you you've been in the state you've been floored a football ball from afar just what are your impressions of the john's summer all higher and and how you think he'll do in games though john summerals two lane teams tough as hell really well coached uh extremely resilient and I'm someone and I'm sorry to do this to you guys but I am always a group of six soap box guy and so last year when uh everyone's winding and complaining

about the group of six and oh how come there's two of them well john summerals two lane team uh took his former quarterback Darian Mensa and duke to the wood shed last year in the non conference okay so the ACC champion went down to john summeral and two lane because they are extremely well coach because they were wildly disciplined because they could beat you in a multitude of ways and deservedly he gets this floor to job Florida is inherently going to be more disciplined with john summeral there and I know that this is a honeymoon phase and it's easy to say oh so much better than billy napier he wins every press conference well that's what john summerals going to do but there's more substance to it than that he has had success wherever he goes Kentucky Troy uh two lane and now that same thing is going to happen at Florida he's perfect for the SEC where you need a big personality to be able to to to sort of uh find your way out of the lurch he's going to be a great uh quote he's going to have that edge to him he is cocky and you need that now in the SEC

with all these personalities and from a a higher standpoint and what it's going to mean to Florida fans I just think if if you were looking to harken back to the days of spurry or you've got your next spurry or your modern day spurry or from a personality standpoint and john summeral really easy to embrace because he gives a damn and he is going to immerse himself in florida and he's not going to be issued that's a thing as well I mean this dude well mic norvel is terrified to put on a depth chart before he plays new mexico state this guy john summeral is putting on a depth chart on monday of game week I mean the guys confident and florida's a better program because of him all right that's the voice of the f a u aos kin la vika great interview i gotta say your number one now on the list of all time guests we're putting in but i've put you in some gator legends that depth of knowledge was incredible all the comments are like hey this guy's great so uh we can't thank you enough for coming on and uh hopefully we'll get to meet you Saturday night in the swamp

but you got a prediction what do you i mean are you what do you i mean what do you i'm going to stick to uh i'm gonna stick to my medella moment dom henry finds the end zone first what i will say hand me back before you play oban i've got some thoughts on Alex golish too how about that all right that's kin la vika the voice of the house can have a safe trip up the games but we appreciate your insight more than you'll ever know thank you so much man of course guys appreciate you appreciate your man wow zack that was awesome oh so good we still with it all right there we yeah now i can really talk about now he was great it was fantastic uh you know well and and and brought to us by the great Kevin winter too oh there you go yeah well i was fantastic you know because you know so many times we get so wrapped up in this bubble you're covering your own team you're just trying to know what's going on within that bubble within that gator orbit and so i don't know about you zack i read four or five articles each week on the other team i'll go look at the depth chart you know either on on three or that other side our lands it's got you know all those

breakdowns and stuff but you never really get it it's hard to get a true sense of the team we don't get to watch a lot of the games that we're out at the Florida games we're working all day and so that was fantastic so look at the real real quick i want to uh want to give a shout out to a new partner that we have for this season handa of games although they'll be sponsoring our guests throughout the season uh right here in town i've done business with them and and they're you know great people over there and handa of games will be your one stop destination for all your handa vehicle needs from a routine maintenance to major repairs their service department is open seven days a week and no appointment is necessary and yes they will be open on labor day visit their website to view all of their current service specials uh they have deals going on weekends on game days so if you're coming to gamesville need any handa needs are looking for a car make sure you go and stop and check them out so zack this is the section where we're just going to riff a little bit i just want to get your take you grew up it around gamesville you uh if you got to go at any point

let me know no no i'm good you've covered the team for 17 years and somebody put a great post on our board uh i mean it wasn't like reinventing the wheel but it was a great post nonetheless hey what what just tell me your best the best opening games in florida history florida football history and so some of the ones that came to mind in 1969 before our time but florida's great win the super soft beat number one rank houston and the opener and really changed the trajectory of florida football and that was um actually they'd had success in the 60s but that was really one of those incredible moments you've got the few wins over Miami in the early 80s 82 the one handed catch by James Jones to beat Miami at florida field uh the next year they played at florida field again zack and florida 128 to three over Miami Miami would end up winning the national championship that was the only game they lost that year but there's been so many goats was uh was florida you taught an opening game it was i was gone i was covered in other games it was what's what's your favorite 17 years of doing this or just chowden what's your what your opening day gators game that really sticks

out to you that's a good question because you know for for a lot of my life growing up um you know florida played a cupcake in week one so a lot of times it was and then that has changed obviously in recent years now this was before my time but um it's not before my time i take that back i was actually born but i don't remember it i've seen it but the season opener for the first game of the Steve Spreyer era against Oklahoma state i mean that obviously was a blowout but man what a tone setting win that was for the start of a new era i mean i i think that that's probably a game that sticks out to a lot of florida fans um you know you you mentioned that 2022 i mean i got to say at least for me covering the team that's that's been the the best season opening game that i've seen and and it was also a Florida coach making his debut so um you know we'll see uh what's

happened fireworks john some are all can have on Saturday night you know another one that i liked it was not a great game but it was just cool to have um you know for the florida's had some of these actually some neutral site matchups but the Florida Miami game in Orlando again ugly game but it was just nice to see that rivalry renewed it was a neutral site it was something different i was out there in Texas as well for Florida Michigan that was not a good season opener uh but but in recent years for sure florida utah has been the best yeah and we'll just we'll get into the actual current team in a minute but i'm going to go back to that 1990 game spurs first games that there was so much anticipation around that game but that also in this way have been a good documentary you know you know you've seen those documentaries about the world series after 9-11 well the spurs first game came just a few weeks after the games were murders and and it was a surreal time and that was my first semester as a student in the university florida that was a surreal

time in gainsville where uh you had four uf students and another area student murdered kids were sent home there was a police presence in gainsville like you can't even fathom today front page news in us a day every day uh good morning and there i mean it was the top stories that maybe in the world certainly in the country the gains were murders things started to get back to normal the kids returned to campus and people just sort of needed an outlet and they just needed something can't bring back the lives of those poor kids but they needed something right something to the galvanizing moment and you didn't know what you didn't know what Oklahoma state was going to be i think they had maybe been on probation or wrong probation so they've been decimated a little bit but remember they had just had very sanders a couple years earlier exact they were still a sort of a decent brand name and so for florida go out there and put it on Oklahoma state 57 and i believe there were some long passes on that first drive and you knew it was going to be different i remember i was sitting in the student section you knew it was different it just felt different so you had that

incredible moment for stevesperer the launching pad for him against the backdrop of all the pain that people were feeling in gainsville so you'll never experience a moment like that again if you were there uh... that twenty nineteen game in in the uh... that was in the citrus bowl right florida my name that was that was that was the game where frank's through a pick and we got the meme from spurry or we just like that that's where that's from the traditional that stadium it will you know as that game was happening i remember looking up to see if florida ever played my any in or land before because you know they played my amy in nineteen eighty four in Tampa but they actually played my amy in the citrus bowls that i found this incredible in nineteen seventy six and that was the debut game of the new and improved citrus bowl they had just expanded the stadium and during the game people in the east stands upper deck felt racking the whole game the stadium was swaying so many people complained that they they never played another that that was it they had to

redo that whole side people were scared that they felt like the stadium was going to collapse that night in orland that was nineteen seventy six all right uh... zack a little bit more about this this game this week in this team we talked about depth and an emerging depth so who are some of the young guys that you think are going to be guys that are going to really sort of emerge as key depth pieces guys florida is really going to need and then we'll get into your other players to watch yeah um you know and this is you would hope if you're florida a game where you get to see those guys right you would know certainly assume you're going to do it in week two and you better but even this game uh... this is one where you should be able to get a big lead and allow some guys to get opportunities maybe play for the first time and the swamp uh in terms of depth pieces that i think will be key players and and potentially start to show up in in week one um certainly you point to the running back position uh i still feel like even though i mean my mind

Evan priors probably rb2 or maybe the first guy off the bench but i just feel like duke Clark is going to make an impact and he's um he he's going to show up and maybe even on Saturday night but but he's going to be a guy that shows up in the run game with some explosive plays um and it's going to be a key depth piece that they have throughout the year and certainly on Saturday night uh at wide receiver look we know the top three guys we know the top six guys and calil jaxons number seven but i'm going to say just in Williams i cannot wait to watch this guy play get opportunities which should happen in uh the first couple weeks and maybe throughout the year like i i think that he's a guy that could potentially play as a freshman because of the way that he's produced in training camp um he's gotten opportunities they're even with the second team at some point from from some of the stuff that i've seen so he's uh he's a guy that obviously had a great high

school career at at bueholds and i i think i don't know how much florida will necessarily get from him in terms of production this year you know i think it'll be more of the tj Abrams Bailey Stockton's Micamays but i think Justin Williams is a guy that could could flash in week one and and then on the defensive side of the ball you know tie jaxon and and miles johnson those are those are two guys that not only um florida needs to be playing at a high level but i think that they they have been in will i think they're going to get more opportunities especially these first two games you're not going to see or shouldn't see miles gram air and child is playing in the fourth quarter like those guys i think we're going to see a lot of rep uh this saturday as well as next weekend um and then last i don't want to say all the guys i'll leave you some Keith but but maybe one other player that i'm watching or or looking forward to watching is cj brona um one of the fastest guys on the team one

of the fastest guys in the 2026 class he was uh you know limited with injuries and stuff in the spring but he has come on in training camp and and john someral said if this guy had not been hurt he might have been in the mix for the two deep so i think we'll he'll get an opportunity to play especially the first couple weeks and can't wait to watch what he does yeah i mean look you can make a case for every starter on the team and and several backups for players to watch you really can zack i love the pick i love your your your your mention of jester waves the freshman from i'm a modern b-holtz i think here's my prediction maybe i still maybe i stole him from you what are the none of them okay okay here's my prediction on jester waves i think that kid is starting for the floridaators in 2027 oh i think he's starting i think he is that good he's just he's just one of those guys looks like just a regular dude right he's he's not super tall he doesn't run a four one he's not a rick singleton speed there's just something about that kid man i just i know so many people at b-holtz grew up with the head coach there uh the great lee

magriff's grandson keel magriff played for b-holtz so he was in every game i would say you know you wouldn't believe how good this guy is talk to a coach from bureau beach high school that said the whole game plan was based on stopping him so i believe in jester waves my guys to watch i just gonna give you two i think john somal's gonna reward the guys that that group of five there's five guys the big five that they retained and and that starts with verna brown the third who is great of a season as he had last year 40 plus catches 500 plus receiving yards one of the top partner turners in the scc i believe verna brown is going to get his first career gators touch this week and i'll go one better i think he's gonna get two so i look for a good turn maybe a pump return listen i'm gonna taste some about verna brown the third as good as he was last year and i don't even want to say this is a critique because i don't want to hear from his dad but there were just a couple of times where he was just a tackle away one guy away from instead of going 20 going 80 i think he takes his game to the next level over the next two years the place

that he wasn't quite ready to take all the way last year i think he does this year and next year i think he's that good i love it my guy on defense nickelback the star position Kanye Clark like me that's a great pick that's a great pick key i know they got to get pressure up front trust me i know that's where you're winning games on the line of scrimmage anybody that doesn't think that's fooling themselves and then floor's got good linebacker so i feel comfortable about that front seven and you know as brice thorenton been a superstar no but he's had a good camp we hear i think he's ready to elevate a little bit DJ they came in Coleman are pretty steady at sea i think they're steady i like the potential of cornerback i think they're gonna give up some place i think there's gonna be a little feast or fame or with those guys but sure i don't know i look you got a little jekylline hide you got to be yeah you got to be aggressive they're gonna give up some place because there's some talented receivers i mean they're gonna have to face cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo and Austin there there's some talented receivers out there but they're also gonna make some plays i think we're gonna see a couple pick sixes but that nickelback position is sort of like the great unknown because kind of a

Clark came from UCLA we're only started a few games there and began his career as a walk on i wasn't a typical walk on zack we know he had offers from other school like washington state he had some smaller power four type offers but he was a walk on and he had to earn a scholarship fight is where you like that that you like that toughness he's been proving people wrong this is his chance to prove the dad is wrong again it's a great unknown that nickel position and it's a key position now they could play other guys there are fanzo islands gonna play they're gonna play multiple guys but it's a key position because you got to do a little bit you're kind of the jackknife of that second year you got to be down in the box times you got you might get lined up against a tight end you might get lined up against the match up he's really key well yeah against fau yeah right so what can he bring to the table they feel like they found a diamond in the rough the gators we've heard that before in the past with different steps sometimes they're right sometimes they're not right at jimmy or decay was a diamond in the rough yeah he absolutely was and so but

then there have been other guys we heard about you know like whatever happened to that dude you know I mean uh I'm not gonna name any names but there's been plenty because it's hard football's hard but this guy plays an important position he's got a lot of great athletic traits and he's a fighter and so we'll see but it's so keep it on a Kanye Clark we'll see we're watching I don't know which direction it's gonna go but Florida has faith in him I love it hey before we get out of here I just want to say this and I I could have led with this but I don't want to beat a dead horse but all you fans out there listening you're gonna let it or gonna watch this just imagine three days before the season two days before the season actually you're getting ready for Florida football you're excited for a new year and two days before it starts John Someral and Florida is getting sued by the SEC can you just imagine that scenario happening right now and for Florida to have gone through its coaching process again it's

water under the bridge now but like man did they dodge a bullet I mean I that's all that I'm sure that they're thinking over there I know a lot of Florida fans are thinking it there is no coach or no offensive system or play calling that is worth the headache that Lane Kiffin has brought to Baton Rouge and I can say I don't feel sorry for the LSU fans but it is a it's a mess it's a shame what he's doing to college football I'm shout out to Greg Sanky and the SEC for standing up to it I hope they win that fight this ridiculous that judges and lawyers can supersede a conference's rules I don't want to go down that that row but I'm just all I could think yesterday when that news came out Keith was thank God this dude is not in Gainesville and I'm and I'm not writing about that crap and I get to write about actual football and Brad White's defense and the game on Saturday it's just I'm so glad I'm not in that place yeah it's it's kind of trick it's a it's a

double-edged sword look man if the guy wins the national championship in the next few years it'll it'll sort of be brushed aside but I'll tell you one thing and he's a hell of a coach but if if that was happening in Gainesville right now the university would not be backing him the way his university is backing him I have a hundred percent belief in that I think they're just different situations to be honest with the edge crazy times in college football Zach crazy times crazy times but hey you know football's here we saw some interesting games last time we've already seen some interesting games this season Dan Mullin oh and one oh and one at home but he got to walk out with Elvis for his first game no and then one and and George attack certainly was not the same without buster Faulkner no no they didn't look too great last night but look it's it's a lot that's a great game by the way yeah it's a great finish should I say not a great game great finish it's a long

season we're gonna see we ought to actually do a segment called snap judgments because you we all know what's gonna happen it kin neo preach everybody everybody commenting you all know what's gonna happen all the people in our world's at are gonna act like they can project the season out after one game this season after one game the snap judgments are gonna come out everybody's gonna have all the answers and it's gonna be that's always one of my favorite weeks to read everything is Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday after the first week of the season because all the pundits out there think they can kind of figure out what's gonna happen in November based on one game in September so Zach we've got our season predictions already out we both think what a eight and four I think we came up with game predictions are you ready to give some predictions on this game let's do it let's do it all right look I'll keep mine short and simple I think Florida's gonna be able to run the ball I think Florida's gonna be able to throw the ball okay I think if you create some challenges they're probably gonna get some yarders they're probably gonna get some points but Florida's gonna have enough stops on third down to ultimately take control of this game and win going away I like in

the neighborhood of 45 to 17 and I think it'll be a game where Florida does enough will where fans everybody commenting everybody in the stands everybody watching on TV enough well to be optimistic about what the team could become but also there's gonna be enough hiccups that the coaching staff is gonna be able to go back to the team and say you guys got a long way to go because they need that I actually think maybe the worst thing the last thing Florida needs right now Zach would be like a 58 nothing win that's what the fans want that's right but what this team doesn't need right now is to get big heads they ain't done anything they won four freaking games last year okay they I would rather see a team doing this than a team that starts here and just does this all season right so I think 45 17 in that range good good good feel good win where there's enough to build some enough to build on everybody feeling good about the gators again yeah I kind of have similar feelings I think that Florida is gonna be able to control this this game on the offensive

side of the ball they should be able to control the line of scrimmage establish the run game I think Aaron Filo should get off to a a good start to his Florida career I mean maybe they have some hiccups on offense at some point during this game but like I I think that it's gonna be pretty seamless this is not a good FAU defense like first as good as they were offensively throwing the ball and just in total offense they were just atrocious on the defensive side of the ball now we talked to Ken he described some ways that they've got better but I think Florida should be able to have its way defensively I cannot wait to see Brad White scheme I wrote about it this week at Gator's online I would encourage you guys to go check that out in all the different ways that he's gonna try to challenge offenses I think that that will happen again on Saturday night yes they're gonna give up some plays there's gonna be a couple drives maybe where FAU goes right down the field on Florida and when that happens as John Sumeral said don't freak out because they

did it to him last year or two lane they do it to a lot of teams but they even if even in giving up some big plays giving up some touchdowns Florida will settle in defensively they will make the adjustments and and as we heard Ken say yes they got a potent passing offense but they had trouble running the ball and they had trouble protecting the quarterback and I think Jayden Woods in that front seven is gonna get after it I don't have a score prediction said yeah I will in a few minutes but I I think the Gator's cover we'll we'll say that for sure I would say one thing I still think look there's gonna be concerns coming out of this game they're always on I would say I still think is I think the offensive line's gonna win the day but I still think it's a work in progress that I mean Florida just only recently identified it's starting five right like some teams know they're starting five in the spring and so you have to build that cohesion you you absolutely do you you got to those guys have to be playing together and so again work in progress

probably be some some hiccups out there I don't know that Florida scores 50 in this game yeah yeah I don't know I don't know about that one other thing you know John Sona said this week and I thought this was interesting people were asking me how much do you think Trimelle Jones is gonna play and so what the game is gonna dictate that of course obviously look if it's a close game you may stick with your starter unless he's throwing pick after pick after pick you know whatever but he also said that Aaron Fowler is gonna play a lot because they need to build continuity and I think that was a really interesting comment like hey yeah of course I want Trimelle Jones to play but and I want my number two to be ready but more important than anything is making sure Florida's gonna come he's the first unit like that's gotta take priority so even if it's a blowout we may still see Aaron Fowler more than you think maybe now we may come back Monday and say all right we were dead wrong on everything but that's what John Sona all says they got to build continuity and offense that starts up front at the quarterback position so it's gonna be interesting to see everybody's eager to watch this buster Fockner offense I mean look

but look what Georgia Tech did without him last night without Aaron Fowler those were two guys that they really thought they're gonna all right join gators online dot com right now for 249 a look this is it folks it's ending like we've been promoting it for so long people like out these guys are full of crap well I mean we've been promoting it since August so it's been a month they extended it one more week so you guys could get in for Labor Day weekend but it's it's leaving after this and I ain't coming back it's leaving by the way Zach is near the top he won't brag well he won't be part of it next near the top of our well listen hey hold on gators online is near the top we have you know when I was promoting initially Keith I said let's get to 400 we had over 400 I think we're approaching 500 fans that have signed up this month shout out to y'all but if if you're not signed up man I mean I'll just bring a T-bow to Harvard up he said it for us where's my guy at right here to the chat shout out to T-bow and look that beard I mean you got to trust
