Ep. 26: Numb Success: When a Good Life Stops Feeling Like Yours

We get one life, one pass, and most of us don't lose it all at once.

We lose it slowly, quietly.

In meetings we don't want to be in, in roles that no longer fit, in lives that look right,

but don't feel right.

The more in the middle of a perfectly successful life, a quiet question starts to creep in.

Is this really it?

And here's the trap.

When your life looks successful, it's really easy to ignore that question, because nothing

is obviously broken.

You're not failing, you're not burned out.

You're just not fully alive.

I didn't think I was dying.

I thought I was successful.

Over the past year and a half, I've been trying to put words to this, not just for myself,

but for anyone who's sitting in that exact place right now.

And that's exactly what I've been working on behind the scenes.

I wrote a book.

It's called Powered by Authenticity, and it's coming out soon.

In this book, it's really about this moment.

When you realize the life you built isn't the life you want to keep living.

There's a passage from it, I haven't been able to shake, and I want to read it to you.

We get one life, one pass.

It's easy to spend it reacting, to work, to responsibility, to inertia.

Until one day, you realize you've been postponing yourself.

This book is an invitation to stop waiting.

It's also an invitation to come back to yourself.

Living in alignment doesn't mean everything gets easier.

It means things get clearer.

I didn't find mine through insight or intention, but through two near fatal health crises that

forced me to pay attention.

Learning to live that truth has been challenging, ignoring it nearly killed me.

More moment of change might not come as dramatically as mine.

I really hope it doesn't, but make no mistake.

Every moment you spend living inauthentically is a small death.

That line, I didn't write that lightly.

That's not a theory, that's lived experience.

Most people don't think of it that way because it doesn't feel dramatic.

It feels manageable.

It feels like this is just what life is, but that's how it works.

You don't wake up one day and say, I've lost myself, you drift.

You tolerate things that don't fit.

You perform instead of live.

You trade truth for comfort, one decision at a time.

Day after day or week after week.

And eventually, you look up and realize the life you built isn't the life you want to

keep living.

That's not burnout.

This is quieter, more subtle, more dangerous.

I call it numb success, achievement without aliveness.

Let me slow this down for a second because I want to make this really real.

Think about your day yesterday, not your goals, not your plans, your actual day, how much

of it felt like you and how much of it felt like something you were just managing.

That gap right there, that's where this lives.

It's not dramatic, it's subtle.

It's answering emails you don't care about, sitting in conversations that drain you, making

decisions on what you should do instead of what actually feels true.

And the crazy part is you can live like that for years because nothing is obviously wrong.

But something isn't right either.

That's the space I lived in for a long time.

And if I'm being honest, I knew it.

I just didn't want to deal with what it would mean to admit it because the moment you

tell yourself the truth, you don't get to unsee it.

And now you have a choice.

Stay where you are or start making changes.

That's the real tension.

And that's why so many people stay stuck, not because they don't know, but because they

do.

So what do you actually do with this?

Because awareness is one thing, but change is something else entirely.

Well, here's where I'd start.

Not with a massive life overhaul, not with quitting your job tomorrow, just with honesty.

Seeing yourself one simple question, where am I out of alignment right now?

And then, and this is the hardest part, not rushing to fix it, but actually sitting with

the answer because most people already know they just don't want to admit it.

That's where change starts.

Not with action, but with truth.

So here's the question I'll leave you with.

What are you postponing yourself right now?

Because the truth is, you don't need a heart attack to wake up, but you do have to decide

that your life is worth living before it's too late to change it.
