https://teachhoops.com/ A TeachHoops member call is more than just a conversation; it is a strategic surgical strike on the specific challenges facing your program. Whether you are struggling with a complex 1-3-1 zone defense, navigating difficult parent dynamics, or trying to rebuild a culture of accountability, these calls provide a direct line to veteran perspectives. Instead of spending hours scouring the internet for generic advice, you get a personalized roadmap tailored to your roster's unique strengths and weaknesses. In the heart of the mid-season grind, having an objective "eye in the sky" can help you identify the tactical leaks you might be too close to see, allowing you to make winning adjustments before your next big game.
Beyond the "X's and O's," these calls serve as a powerful tool for combating the isolation of leadership. As a head coach, you often feel "alone in the crowd," bearing the weight of every loss and every difficult personnel decision. Member calls provide a safe, confidential space to discuss the "soft skills" of coaching—leadership psychology, staff management, and personal well-being. By connecting with a mentor who has "been there and done that," you gain the emotional resilience needed to lead with poise. This mentorship bridges the gap between being a good tactician and becoming a transformative leader who builds a lasting legacy in their community.
Finally, a member call acts as a force multiplier for your preparation. We can use the time to perform a "Practice Audit," review game film together, or script out your "Late-Game Menu" for the postseason. This level of professional development ensures that your teaching remains modern, efficient, and impactful. By leveraging the collective wisdom of the TeachHoops community, you aren't just guessing—you are executing a battle-tested blueprint for success. Whether you are a first-year coach or a thirty-year veteran, these calls provide the clarity and confidence required to push your program to its absolute ceiling.

And we offer 14 day free trials, so come over and kick the tires around, see if you like it,
and let's head off to the podcast.
Hey, how are you doing?
Good man, I look rough.
I had to shave my beard and all my stuff.
I got lighting in here because I got to do podcasts and stuff.
So no worries.
I'm having a big fan of all your stuff.
And I'll jump right into it just so I'm not wasting your time here.
But so college football player turned basketball coach by necessity.
Okay.
My daughter is a junior.
I purchased mine.
She was fourth in the state shooting threes in regular season.
That's really good.
Yeah, we didn't get a Pennsylvania.
Okay.
We didn't get a big run in playoffs.
We had one game got pounded by a Catholic school and, you know, season was over.
But right now we're in her junior season of AU.
So gonna be a senior.
Yeah, so currently junior playing AU for one last year.
Gonna be a senior.
Okay.
Big big big summer.
Yeah, big summer.
And she was hurt most of last year.
SI injury played through it.
So they were there probably the whole thing.
So not even be about her.
But just the importance of kind of where we're at the timeline.
See who.
So on the AU coach now, oh, your high school, the subject coach you've got to be the AU coach round here, right?
Okay.
Um, so just, you know, and that was had pretty good local teams.
We're a team.
We're not in the lead travel top 40.
Nothing like that.
But right.
A good local team.
And it just might have been my desire of coaching and leading people and stuff that I'm like, I'll figure this out.
this out. So like everyone else, I've been stealing people's stuff, you know,
the best coaches are thieves, man.
I'm still off you since I found our thoughts. And I thought, well, I'm
to sign up for it is this coaching stuff, you know, I bought the 221, you know,
we we tip there on a one, two, one, one, a more up tempo trap.
Okay. And then we did man last year in a three, two, that we kind of would
would make it look like a two, three bass and guard drop, this kind of thing.
Every so below the free throw line looks like a two, three, every so even a one,
three, one, when you get a below the free throw line, it can basically moves to a two,
three. Yeah. Okay. Good. I do do that. Yeah. Yeah. So here's what here's what
I'm coming to you with just to give you some background, defensively last year,
we did pretty poorly as a high school. And it was probably our AAU, that's probably
the one area we could probably do better on. What do they run? What do they run?
Well, AAU we run predominantly man. Okay. Good.
You know, sometimes situationally we'll move in and ask them things, but then a high school.
And what kind of man?
Um, we just get the pack line, might get on the hillside, you pack, you pack.
So you run them off the three and you don't let them get into the pack. That's it.
Okay. Okay. Okay. Kind of spill everything to the baseline. Okay.
So baseline, no middle. Yeah. I like that.
And you know, so I'm looking at like your two, two, one to tempo kind of thing into this
funnel down. I don't understand the funnel down enough. Okay. But I guess I'm coming
to you and asking is like, you know, we've got average athletes at high school and at AAU.
My daughter is the only sniper. Like she's actually the point guard too, but she's not
super fast. Okay. So offensively, I guess I'm really concerned about offensive
right now, because I think our most improvement, the most bang for the buck right now is defense.
I would agree. So, um, I would, so you want to run man? You want to trap.
You want it like, so you're going to, you're going to be less athletic than the other teams
that you play.
I would say 60% of the time we're going to be less athletic.
There's a couple teams that will beat up on and will be probably a little more athletic.
But for the most part, the best teams will be better than us that we'll have more athletes.
And have better, better at most positions. Yeah. Okay.
So, yeah. So part of the issue is you have to try to take them out of, it's a chess match a little bit.
That's, that's the great thing about sports, especially basketball.
Um, so the better teams at least, it's been a while since I've coached summary you, the better teams are going to press you.
Yes.
And they're going to try to pick up the pace to no end. Yeah.
And they're going to pressure you and they're going to double you and they're going to try to cause chaos.
100% because they think they're better than you and they just want to get going.
Yeah. So the counter to that is you have to execute them both offensively.
Which means you need to work on getting doubled, not over, not over dribbling, passing out of doubles, cutting, cutting through the pressure rather than dribbling through the pressure.
Because it doesn't matter defensively what you run if you're turning it over and they're scoring on the other end.
So the half court part doesn't really, I mean, it does matter, but my guess is half the teams are trying to turn you over and score and transition.
That's what I've seen in the past.
So I would spend a lot of time on press breaks.
I would spend a lot of time on.
Is there one you'd like?
Yes, I like sideline.
There's a good course that I did at a clinic, maybe 10 years ago on T tubes.
I like sideline, one's called sideline, one's called badger.
Those are the two I'd probably run.
If your daughter is the point guard and the best one, she would be throwing it in actually on sideline.
Because then she would be coming in and getting it.
Are these on the website?
They are.
There's a video.
I don't know if I've drawn them up.
I can send you if I remember after this.
I can send you a, I think I have a press breaks.
I use these with my team.
So the key to a good press break.
However, if you don't, if they, if those don't necessarily get you the looks is when you get doubled is angles.
Right.
You got to cut diagonal cuts are the key to a press break.
So everybody, thanks for listening.
