The Hitstreak

About this episode

Episode 249 of The Hitstreak, a podcast where we talk about anything and everything!

This week we are joined by CEO and Co-Founder of Dovetail Strategic, Andrew Lell!

Episode in a Glance:

In this episode of The Hitstreak, I get to sit down with Andrew Lell, and trace his journey from humble beginnings to building a multi-million-dollar company — and 20 businesses along the way. Andrew reflects on the childhood moments that shaped his drive, including a Christmas experience that made him promise he'd never be poor, and the health, family, and lifestyle changes that transformed his life. We get into finding love, facing failure and over a million dollars in debt, and the resilience it took to rebuild. From there Andrew makes the case that relationships beat marketing every time — talking through creative partnerships, sustainability, local engagement, and how to scale a business without losing its personal touch. He also shares how faith is woven into the way he leads, and why sharing hard-won stories is how we help the next person coming up behind us.

About our guest:

Andrew Lell is the CEO and Co-Founder of Dovetail Strategic, a promotional products and brand experience company built on a simple belief: branded merchandise should be easier, smarter, and more meaningful. With more than 25 years of experience in branding, marketing, sales, and promotional products, Andrew has worked with brands including Bridgestone, AT&T, Southwest Airlines, Asurion, Ramsey Solutions, Maxwell Leadership, and Clayton Homes, while also contributing to projects supporting organizations such as Disney, HCA Healthcare, and Darden Foods. For Andrew, the work has never been about products — it has always been about people. He believes the right branded experience can build culture, strengthen relationships, and create lasting connections.

Dovetail Strategic is the 20th company Andrew has owned or helped build. Along the way, he has experienced successes, failures, and plenty of hard lessons, all of which shaped his approach to business and leadership. In 2022, Andrew and his business partner, Michael Conaty, launched Dovetail Strategic from scratch, building new customer relationships, systems, and processes from the ground up. What began with roughly $40,000 in new customer orders during the company's first few months has grown into a multi-million-dollar organization serving corporate, healthcare, financial, education, and enterprise clients worldwide.

Andrew leads with faith, accountability, resilience, and a commitment to helping others succeed. Beyond growing Dovetail, he speaks and mentors on entrepreneurship, leadership, sales, brand experience, and the lessons learned from building businesses from the ground up. His story is a testament to persistence, reinvention, and the belief that failure is often the path to meaningful success.
