5:08I actually just woke up from a nap not too long ago and it's funny because I always have this dream. I'm in some kind of a gigantic building that seems like a shopping mall and people have told me that I am projecting into a spaceship or something but the people don't seem like aliens there. Do you ever have those kinds of dreams? Like a recurring dream, like a setting that's fictional but you just keep coming back to it. For me, it's like this giant shopping mall with big escalators. I don't know, maybe I am transporting to some other place, a spaceship. Of course, you know, at this point, oh boy. You know, I'm gonna be 50 this year. So, you know, now when I sleep, I have one of these massage chairs

6:12that is similar to what you might find in a mall or an airport. And I sit in that massage chair and I strap on my CPAP mask and then I put on my virtual reality headset and I go, and I'm Darth Vader on my throne. And I got that like stinky musty old man smell. No, that's not true. I do have all those things. I do have the massage chair and the CPAP mask and the virtual reality headset but I do not wear them all at the same time. I joke about it though. However, you know, I've said this before and I guess I've never really dug right into it but I'm a very vivid dreamer.

7:12And so a lot of times when I'm having a dream, it becomes a lucid dream. And when you have a lucid dream, well that means that all of a sudden you become aware of the fact that you're dreaming and now you can go and have fun with it and do like, you know, grand theft auto things, mischief and all that. And it's spring cleaning time for me and I was going through my collection and I came across this sleep mask. I have it in my hands right now. Nice soft sleep mask that is designed to help you lucid dream. And if you've never really lucid, if you've never had a lucid dream, I mean, I'm telling you, it's a heck of a lot of fun. But, you know, the idea is that, you know, you literally, you feel like that you're in the real world. But then all of a sudden you become aware this is a dream and there are no consequences

8:14and you can just go do whatever the heck you want to. And so this mask is made by a company and I had, I bought this years ago. I just forgot about it. It's made by a company that says that, okay, if you put this mask on, and what about a mask? I mean, you know how like a lot of people they'll put on just like maybe a satin eye mask or something when they go to sleep so that it blocks out the light. Well, that's pretty much what this is. And I'm holding it in my hands right now. I probably shouldn't tell you the name of the actual company because I'm an extremely powerful man. And if I say something good or bad, it might shake the stock market here on this thing. But what I can tell you is that when you have this mask, what you do, you open the top of it.

9:15And there's a little, there's a little computer circuit in here. And then there's a switch. And then what you do is right before you, you're gonna go to bed, you turn the thing on and it has some little, some little red LEDs that light up and show you that it's working. And then you go to sleep wearing this thing and occasionally in the middle of your sleep, some kind of an LED will pop on here. And the idea is that you are in a dream state. So you don't know that this is not reality, but at the same time, if one of these lights pops on, then it will remind you that you're in a dream state

10:15without totally waking you up. And that gives you the opportunity to then take advantage of your dream state and have fun with your lucid dreaming experience. And I remember using this years ago and here I believe my problem was that I lucid dream all the time anyway. So I couldn't really tell the difference between putting this thing on and having it trigger a lucid dream versus my normal lucid dreams. So the other night I gave it to Lauren and I said, Lauren, I want you to wear it and she goes, no, I don't want to put me. I said, Lauren, it's for the show, for the love of God. And so I had to convince her to do that. Let's see here, by the way, it says, a lucid dream is a state of consciousness

11:18where the dreamer becomes aware they are dreaming while in REM sleep, often enabling them to control the dream's narrative and environment or actions, it is described as a hybrid state between being asleep and awake, allowing for self-awareness during the dream experience. Isn't it nice to have me read stuff off the internet to you? Let's see, in the psychology subfield of onerology, what? Onerology is the, okay, that's the study of dreams, I guess, did you know that? O-N-E-I-R-O-L-O-G-Y. A lucid dream is a type of dream wherein the dreamer knows they are dreaming while in their dream, the capacity to have and sustain lucid dreams is a trainable cognitive skill.

12:18Since during a lucid dream, the dreamer may gain some amount of volitional control over the dream characters, narrative and environment, although this control of dream content is not the salient feature of lucid dreaming. An important distinction is that lucid dreaming is a distinct type of dream from other types of dreams. Okay, look, I think we know what we're talking about here, Donnie. So, I put this thing on a few years ago, and yeah, I mean, I had some lucid dreams, but I already lucid dream, so I couldn't tell the difference. But Lauren doesn't lucid dream, that's by wife. And I said, Lauren, let's see what happens to you when she puts this on, when you put this on. So she agreed, and when we come back from this break, I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna tell you what happened to Lauren. I'll also take, I decided what the heck,

13:20I'll do it again myself as well. This is a big year for me, a life altering year. 22:43Everybody's waiting to hear. Dolly, say something. All right, this dog is an idiot. Get out of here. Ugh. That was a joke, by the way. The dog was never in here. I was just pulling your leg. I swear I'm not pulling your leg when it comes to the stem cell thing. But I did think I would pull your leg on that one. No dolly is the sweetest little dog ever. And she was in here the other day and I was just playing around and saying, I should put you on the radio. Oh, man, where was I? Oh, yeah, lucid dreaming. All right, so here's what happened. Lauren, my wife, you know, I convinced her to put on this mask.

23:46I don't know why she was all against it, you know. But so she put it on and then the next morning I said, I have a lucid dream and she said, no, I did not work. I knew she was going to say that. So I go, well, I guess I'll try it one more time. And so that I put this thing on the same or that night. And you know, here's the thing. I mean, like, again, this is troubling to me. I can't really explain properly how, you know, whether or not this works because I just, I lose a dream all the time. I did have a moment when I became cognizant of the fact that in the middle of my sleep, there was a light that appeared in front of me. And so at that point, I mean, it kind of worked, it kind of worked.

24:51But I know, I would say, I give it a negative review at this point. Sorry, lucid dream. You know, they say the word lucid originates from the Latin adjective lucidus light, bright and clear. It's just, you know, it's just coming to light understanding things. So here's what I think. And you can definitely tell me, and I'm sure you will, because I get so many emails now that it's just insane. You can tell me whether or not you think this is crazy. But I kind of feel like that maybe your everyday reality is a dream. And that basically, I mean, I don't know how to distinguish exactly between, you know,

26:01the dreaming state of sleep and the everyday reality. And so it may be that the goal of your life is to become lucid in your everyday reality. In other words, you get kind of like lulled into a routine every day. And then once in a while, you kind of snap out of that and you go, oh, wait a second. Like, I can control this to some extent. And believe me, I believe there's a lot of stuff you cannot control. So, you know, don't beat yourself up over everything that you can't control. But it may be that every day has the potential to be more of a lucid dream. And that's why I think the manifestation devices can work. You know, whether it's wishing machines or other tools.

27:03You know, I've told you before that I dig into all that stuff not because that I am a master. It's because I'm not a master really. I mean, I'm just, I'm looking for tools. You know, I need help. And that's why when you go to my curiosity shop, I mean, I only put stuff in the curiosity shop that have helped me. If I was automatically just a natural Jedi, then I wouldn't need tools. But I'm not. And so that's why I explore all this stuff. You know, it's funny. I was telling you I was, I'm going to go to this other country and get the, they're going to put millions of stem cells in me. And I'm going to one of the places that I believe Tony Robbins goes to here. You know, Tony Robbins, motivational speaker.

28:03He says, no problem is permanent. Only your soul is permanent. No problem is permanent. Only your soul is permanent. What do you think about that? No, well, that's true. No problem is permanent. You know, it's funny because I've only told some of my closest friends and family that I'm going to go do this. And I mean, I'm telling you, this costs, you know, significant chunk of money. And everybody is just like, man, I can't wait to see what happens here. Because I'll let you be the guinea pig. And so you really do want to follow along. I'm sure with this, with this journey. But you know, it's funny like when you're anticipating something,

29:07it kind of brings you back to this whole thing like, you know, you've heard people, everybody has addages and stuff that they, you know, old, old timers. They say things like a watched pot never boils. A watched pot never boils. What does that mean, right? You know, it's almost like that when you're when you're really paying attention to something, it just takes forever. You know, I'm just off the top of my head. I believe that somebody once asked Einstein what is relativity. And he said something like, well, you know, when you're sitting next to a pretty girl, a minute seems like 10 seconds or when you're sitting on a hot pot, you know, 10 seconds seems like a minute. I mean, that kind of thing.

30:08But watch pot never boils. Sometimes you just have to go for that Gordian knot though. You know that, that legend, the Gordian knot. It's the legend of an impossibly intricate knot tied by King Gordius and Gordian. An oracle prophesied that whoever untied it would rule Asia. And in the year, 333 BC, Alexander the Great, he was unable to untie it. So he just pulled out his sword and just sliced it in half. And then he went on to conquer Asia. Sometimes you just have to say, look, things are too complicated, right? Like you're not going to figure it out.

31:09I don't care how smart you are. You can be a great genius. I can be a great genius. It doesn't matter. Sometimes you just can't figure things out and you don't have the time and the patience. And you just got a slice that Gordian knot. Looks like we're up on a break here. So, okay, when we come back though, here's something that I want to bring up. Did you know? 36:28Welcome back to Strange Things! All of the iHeart radio and coast to coast am paranormal podcast network. I have your host Joshua P. Warren, and this is the show where the unusual becomes usual. Yeah, sometimes I get a little goofy. I mean, you know, I work all night on all these projects. And then I got to get up during the day and do normal people stuff. But I'm not going to leave you hanging here on the lucid dreaming thing. Like, look, basically, again, I don't want to name any names, but you can try it out for yourself. Just look up lucid dreaming sleep tech. And I'll I know is Lauren said it didn't work for her. And I can't give you a conclusion on it because that I already kind of lose a dream all the time.

37:34But I mean, I don't know. Maybe it's time for me to sell this thing. Maybe I'll put this up for sale as part of my collection. I've been selling a lot of stuff recently. And I have three storage units packed from top to bottom. I'll screw across this country. And does that make me a hoarder? Maybe. Oh, what are we talking about again? The only venomous bird. It's called the it's called the hooded pituit found in New Guinea. As a matter of fact, I'm, you know, Lauren, she's like I say, she's the animal person.

38:36And I think she wanted to make sure that I pronounced this correctly. But I can't find her email right now. So anyway, we're going to call this the pituit P-I-T-O-H-U-I. The hooded pituit found in New Guinea is recognized as the world's first documented poisonous bird. It carries a potent neurotoxin called Batrachocotoxin. You know what? These scientists, you know, they must have some really small egos because they come up with some big words. Batrachocotoxin. And it's skin and feathers. This toxin also found in poison dart frogs causes numbness and paralysis likely acquired from its diet, particularly the chorus sign beetle.

39:46What do you think about that? New Guinea. Well, that figures doesn't it. Pituit is a genus of birds endemic to New Guinea. The birds formerly lumped together as pituities were found by a 2008 study that examined their evolutionary history on the basis of the genetic sequences to have included birds that were quite unrelated to each other. They have since been separated into other genera. You know, sometimes, don't you think like sometimes you read stuff and you're like, who wrote this? This is way too convoluted. There are a lot of poor writers out there in my opinion. But anyway, yeah, there's a poisonous bird, which actually is kind of funny because it coincides with a purchase that I recently made.

40:52When I was a kid, one of my favorite things was this, I guess you almost call it a desktop toy called a drinking bird or a dunking bird. Do you remember this? Some call it a dipping bird. This is a toy that is technically called a heat engine. Basically, it's kind of a glass vial that is balanced on a little pivot. What happens is that they dressed it up to look like a bird. The bird will dip forward and dip its beak into a glass of water, which cools a substance inside of it.

41:54That makes the substance like a liquid sink and then the bird lifts up and bobs it around. Then it warms up naturally and the liquid rises up the tube and the bird leans over and dunks its beak again in the liquid. This goes on forever. If you're close to my age, you know what I'm talking about, but there are people who listen to the show who are very young and they're like, what is this guy saying? Look it up. It's called the drinking bird, the dunking bird, and it is one of the coolest things ever created because it kind of looks like a perpetual motion machine. It's not exactly, I'm not going to get into all the details of what perpetual motion is because this is a podcast and this is not a physics classroom.

42:54But basically, you have this thing that looks like a bird and you put a glass of water in front of it and the bird leans forward and dips its beak in the water and then it leans back and bobs around. And this goes on until the end of time as long as there is water in that glass. And so I bought one of these maybe like a couple weeks ago because I remembered how cool I thought they were and they are just, I find them even cooler now than I used to. But you know what, I started looking into this and I was like, well, I understand this is not technically perpetual motion even though the bird that we have will, it will be working probably 100 years after Lauren and I are dead as long as there's a glass of water in front of it.

44:00And I was like, I wonder if you can scale this up, you know, if you can get a giant version of this and turns out, yes, you can. There is a man and there's not a lot out there about him, but I found some videos and there's a guy from, I want to say the 1990s. I don't have all this show prep in front of me right now, but this guy, he built like some gigantic versions of that drinking dunking bird. And by gigantic, I mean, probably like almost 10 feet tall, that's what I would say. And he had an exhibit like an art exhibit and it turns out that it scales up. It actually scales up when you, you mean like, because you wonder like, okay, if I have a little one of these, does it only work on a little scale?

45:04It turns out it appears to work on any scale. And I'm thinking that maybe there is some real energy potential here, you know, this could be a very lucrative energy alternative. But, I don't know, man, I mean like, because all you need is water. I mean, there's, I mean, there is water everywhere. So, I'm probably giving everybody a billion dollar idea right now. Oh well, go ahead and see what you think about that. Sometimes toys, like you learn things from weird, you know, I recently did a show about toys. I have this teapot in front of me. And it's called the Assassin's teapot.

46:06And this is kind of a toy. I mean, some of you immediately know what I'm talking about. This is made of porcelain. It's very well made. And it's green. So it kind of has an, I guess an onyx or no jade. I'm sorry, a jade looked to it. And it's shaped like an ancient Chinese master turned into a teapot. And it's called an Assassin's teapot because it's got two holes on it. It's kind of like a magic trick. There's a hole on the top and a hole on the bottom. And what you can do is put two different liquids in here. And if you plug one hole, then one of the liquids comes out. And if you plug the other hole, then the other liquid comes out.

47:10So you could put tea in it and poison in it. And then you could pour a couple of little cups of tea for you and your buddy that you're about to kill. Reminds me of the Rambo place that like comes with a survival knife and kill your buddies. But yeah, you plug one hole and it's just tea. And so your buddy trusts you because you're both drinking tea. But then you plug the other hole. And guess what? Now it's poison time. Okay, I hear the music. I already hit two jackpots in a row and however Lauren said I am Warren out you know I want to go to to sleep and so we came back home and she goes well you know you're on such a roll if you want to keep going and gambling like I don't you know I'm not holding it against you and so I go fine I've been drinking so I took an uber over to the casino not far from my house so I here I am sitting at this bar at this casino and it was it was crazy it was a Saturday night and I was the oldest guy in there and again I'm only 49 so that tells you something I guess and so but I'm sitting there and you know I'm

54:24I'm the guy who knows what I'm doing and I heard a bunch of ladies talking next to me and they were talking about like well I'm 38 and I'm 37 and I'm 35 and like they were talking about like what life was like under 30s and so obviously I turn around to see and I don't know if there was a birthday party or what but I just kind of like I just became aware of this group of of ladies who were talking about age and standing immediately next to me was this woman that was I guess she was in her 30s and she was dressed quite scantily I mean

55:26you could tell that she was she was out for a night and Las Vegas and there was this dude next to her and so I mean you know she was pretty I mean she had you know she had long long brown hair and she was really done up nicely and so she she said to the guy next to her she goes like what what the heck is happening right now now I don't know if you've seen the movie Mars attacks but in that movie that is what the aliens say and I was sitting there like looking at this lady talk to this guy and he's just trying to make sense of it as well

56:30and I was thinking to myself was did Tim Burton have some advanced knowledge on the you know like the disclosure thing like because this is eerily this is eerily realistic it's like she and I was looking at her and I was like did they put a suit on this alien so that she would look appealing to a man but they can't perfect the whole speech thing I don't know maybe I'm just too hard on people but I after that I was like check please I'm out of here I mean that maybe some kind of you know disclosure heads up Vegas though you know see

57:37that's a thing it's like I've been talking a lot lately about Elvis I've always thought that Elvis was was interesting for for a number of reasons I mean like eight years ago I went to I went to a show here in Vegas with Priscilla Presley and she set there on stage it was at the south point and it was maybe an hour and a half two hours and she was just talking about her relationship with Elvis and what she said was you know Elvis was a great guy I mean like like she didn't that mouth to do it all but you know she was just talking about how that when he came to Vegas that is when their relationship started really suffering because that he you know he had other other women you know he had he

58:44was unfaithful he had he had all kinds of affairs and it got to a point where she she just couldn't take it anymore and you know what's what's interesting also about that is I mean if you've seen the new Elvis documentary I mean you see he's he just kisses women randomly and Vegas you know there are some strange women in this town you know Elvis I was watching this show called autopsy and they were talking about how and why that Elvis actually died and they said that all the he was they work you know they he was being worked so hard to make money that he was having to take drugs basically to keep him awake to keep him active because he was only 42 when he died and you know I'm not

59:47talking about like he didn't drink or smoke or all I mean he would just take drugs his doctors would give him so that he could just like have a stimulant and perform but those things they they slow down your metabolism apparently and this is not a pleasant thing to think about but what by their standing is is that it slowed his metabolism down so much that Elvis actually started becoming extremely constipated and you might not think that's a big deal but I mean it is a big deal and so what you like the best evidence we have is that these drugs made him so constipated that he was on the toilet trying to you know relieve himself and

1:00:48then he strained so hard that he had a heart attack and that seems to be the the reality of how Elvis died in this town because he was taking those dad gum drugs to help him you know perform and keep up that crazy schedule he had oh well they guess is a weird place they guess is weird you know I was talking to to Lauren the other night about how the I mean I understand what people say when they say like there's no real culture here it's so artificial it's so man-made and they just tear things down you know build them right back up but if you're right if you're struggling right now and you're in debt or something like that

1:01:55well just just remember this I don't know if you believe in the Bible or not but the Bible says that everything belongs to the Lord you don't own anything and uh Deuteronomy 1014 scripture states the heavens and the earth belong to God everything in creation is made for and sustained by God so you really don't own anything so just kind of forget about that and accept the fact that this is an experience that should be a fun experience and should be interesting it doesn't last forever but don't don't be yourself up so bad if uh if you feel like you're messing up
