Hello everybody and welcome to the Barium Podcast. This is episode number 57.
Yes, actually 57 this time.
I'm here with my hosts, my self-baba fully and
Dails up tonight so we have Cooper joining us again for the show.
Fully.
Oh, I'm feeling it.
I'm going.
Going good with me.
How was your week? Anything notable?
Not that too notable this week when they didn't get into any trouble.
So that's good.
Play a little golf today.
And that's hands me again and fucking golf.
Gimmulator, simulator, shit.
You can't figure it out as usual.
But not other than that, it's been pretty status quo.
How about you, Cooper? Anything crazy happening this week?
Yeah, not much.
You might have had some roller and line hockey.
What went on?
Is that what your dad told me you were playing ball hockey? You were playing roller hockey?
Yeah.
Nice.
Well, that's even better though.
There used to be a professional roller hockey team in Calgary at one time.
I tried out for it.
It was in the RHI.
And I was probably going to make the team.
But it was considered pro.
And it was right before I was going to university in Minnesota.
So I asked coach, am I allowed to play?
And it was an emphatic note because you get paid to play.
Not an amateur anymore.
Yeah, not an amateur anymore.
And I didn't drive back then.
I lost my shot at playing in the RHI.
And then once I was done, I just had no interest in it after that.
But it was fun.
It was right when it first came out.
I had the little puck with the roller and it.
Yeah, it could just waste that thing.
It could curve it.
It was not.
It was scary because the guy could just snip it from the far blue line and the thing.
He looked like he'd be going around.
He'd all say to me, boom, hit your square in the chest or in the bag or got forbid your checklist.
But it was good because, like me, he wasn't the fastest guy,
but had had good hands and could shoot the puck.
That was right at my alley.
So a little slower than real hockey.
And there's a little more.
A little more difficult to handle the puck than the normal puck.
So I like it.
What do you like about it, Koop?
Like it helped me with like skating on ice more because you have to.
Like putting more effort to skate faster on roller blades.
Yeah, I found like when I went back on ice, I gave me kind of a jump.
Nice.
I didn't really try that hard with my skating and roller hockey that while.
So it didn't really give me a boost.
Not too bad.
Did you ever play roller hockey, Baba?
Sure did.
We had league here in in town.
16s.
When I was growing up and stuff.
We played.
Played pretty consistently.
We affect my team ball.
I put the one team together and put it in and we won the league in a year.
But it was.
We were all real hockey players playing roller hockey.
Lots of the other guys weren't so.
That's how it is in ours.
Yeah.
So.
It's just a bunch of head bangers.
Remember the head bangers love the roller hockey back in the day.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
We're in there fricking Fort St. John Tuxedo jacket and their hair all over the place in their helmet.
Look like the dinner.
Look like the dinner given our hope there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
City put it on, but we used to have still to play with cages and stuff because we were
underage.
So.
Yeah.
That was only downside.
I guess.
But.
At the same token.
I don't know how many bucks ended up in my face.
So it was probably just as well.
I had to wear it.
Yeah.
We just were that we had to wear a helmet.
We didn't have to wear shield or half eyes or nothing like that.
So.
But you could really catch a guy on the trolley.
Oh, fuck.
Cause you could just hammer dudes.
I remember that.
You had to keep your head up.
Yeah.
We weren't supposed to open ice hit but we could rub out.
Well, rubbing out turned very quickly into fucking brutalizing guys against the board.
So.
It was.
It's nasty.
And of course.
Sorry.
You.
Somebody crumbles.
Oh, shit, man.
I was just trying to stop.
Sorry.
Like.
Hard argue.
Like.
Stop.
No.
No.
What?
What surface do you plan?
It's just like a.
Just like a lacrosse kind of like.
I would say lacrosse but like, you know, just a flat concrete when they take the ice out of arenas.
Oh, so it's not a roller hockey surface.
It's not to rub really surface.
No, there's a tournament last year in red here with the they use tiles, but.
I had to miss that first.
Don't do graduation.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Anything else happened, Koop?
No, not much.
Well, well, are we done our picks for the year?
We have completed all the picks where we stand is not going to change anywhere.
I win.
And up dead last.
Did you edit up dead last?
Yeah.
Well, you know, for me and.
For my position would be the hardest right because whenever you're in the middle and you don't know if you're going to win or lose.
You if you would have just said win all year, you would have had a good percentage.
And if.
The other said loss every time you had a good percentage.
And you're delusional.
So you picked oilers to win way too much.
But it still doesn't matter because they won way more.
So you were going to be right.
It was a it was a coin toss every night for Calgary.
You never knew who they were.
How they were going to play or who they were going to play.
I don't say who, but how they're going to play against a good team or a bad team.
They'd beat, you know, they'd beat Dallas and go.
They lose to Chicago.
They were definitely a little Dr. Jekyll.
Mr. Hyde.
That's for sure.
They've been doing good here at the end of the year though.
Yep.
Yeah.
Do it better for sure.
But why?
Because it's great.
Like I said before.
As soon as they're kind of out of contention, they'll play really hard.
And just to make sure that they get a shitier fucking draft pink.
Yeah, they should dead.
You know what?
And I mean, it's been a Calgary MO any time they've been out of the playoffs for a long time is.
You know, get out of the playoffs and then push real hard to fucking show that you.
After they trade away some guys that, you know, these other guys that are trying for.
To show where they belong for next year.
Well, it's not that they're doing anything wrong.
I'm not saying that.
It's just.
Oh, no.
It's just it really screws you in getting into like.
Seven to 12 and getting.
At best, a mediocre prospect instead of a top.
Instead of a top 10 prospect kind of thing.
Well, they still got a chance at number one.
I think they're going to end up.
Oh, they beat.
It's just.
You know, it's like it drops your odds down quite a bit.
Yeah, it drops your odds down and then.
They'll, you know, get inside the top three is going to be a little tough, but.
This is the first time though that I've watched Calgary miss the playoffs.
And at the end of the year, actually be excited.
Like, you know, the machine middle next year's.
They'll be happy to be in the machine middle.
I hope they're not.
I hope they.
They trip and.

There's nowhere I wouldn't go to help someone customize and save on car insurance with Liberty Mutual.
Even if it means sitting front row at a comedy show.
Hey everyone, check out this guy in his bird.
What is this, your first date?
Oh, no.
We help people customize and save on car insurance with Liberty Mutual together.
We're married.
Ah!
Need a human, him to a bird.
Yeah, the bird looks out of your league anyways.
Only pay for what you need at Liberty Mutual.com.
Liberty, Liberty, Liberty, Liberty, Liberty.
There are dicks again in the bottom three to league again and get another high pick.
It's only going to help them.
But the kids that they're bringing up, well, the kids that they played all year.
They was talking to coops dad before this.
And the, you know, they had 3D in last game.
That one straight out of college and then you got Bushnavich Hunter.
And then you got Zane Perrek and I don't know about you Coop,
but you watched the game against Colorado.
Yeah.
How do you think of Zane?
You know, it was probably one of his better games all year.
He was looking more confident than he would like the other games.
Like he wasn't himself clearly the most, most of the year.
Yeah, tough year, right?
That he come in as a legit 19 year old and NHL.
And then you get your confidence shaken early.
You get injured.
Then you go play world juniors.
Then you come back and you don't start out that great again.
Then you get a little bit of hurt again.
And then I think once McKenzie Weeger left and it opened up a ton of ice time.
And, you know, they're managing his games and trying to, trying to, you know,
shield them a little bit.
He just started, like we talked about with your dad.
The offensive stuff's going to be there.
You can see that.
That's, he's gifted that way.
He's got good, good vision.
He's got good patience.
But he would always, I thought he was either giving it away too quickly or holding on to it too long.
But those are mistakes you need to make to figure out how you're going to do things.
Right?
And I think the best thing I take away from it is the stuff that I didn't like about him.
When he was playing that way is the stuff I'm liking about him now.
His compete level is really good.
His, his puck on stick is good.
He's never going to be a physical beast, but he's getting in there.
And he's taking chances, but at the right time.
He's still making mistakes.
And he's still going to make him next year and he's going to probably make him the year after that.
And he could end up like Bouchard and just make him your whole life.
But when you have that offensive upside and you have the puck as much as he does.
And as long as, you know, for every one bad play, there's five good ones.
I think, I think we'll be able to live with that guy for a while.
But how did you like contra Bouchard?
Because his trajectory.
And I think he's better both ways than correct for sure.
I think corrects more even this year.
Pregs went better offensively, but the established is still more, you know, I don't know what to say.
He's more ready yet.
He's more NH already 100%.
Like, I think that guy could play three, four minutes already.
You know, three second pair of defensemen.
You know, he needs to bulk up a little bit too.
You can see him lose some physicality battles down low.
But he doesn't, he doesn't make mistakes like very few.
You know, you're playing on the one of the worst teams in a league.
And he's not looking like a dummy out there.
He's looking, he's looking like he's played three or four years in the league already.
So that's, it's good.
And then you got what do you think of that Matt vague grid?
Well, I think he's awesome, man.
Yeah, he's got some upside A.
This guy always got a fucking wicked shot.
And then he can dish pretty good too.
When smart, confident, another guy who doesn't look like he's a rookie.
I think he comes in, you know, he knows where to gain ice.
He knows, you know, he's got, like you said, he had great vision.
Like this little dish passes.
And when I do like about him, he moves pucks to areas that.
If he doesn't have anywhere to go, he's putting his team in a better spot.
He's not putting his team behind.
He did it a couple times, a couple three games ago.
And I think the coaches got on him. He was trying to get move pucks to the middle before the play could develop.
And that's just again, being, being young and not understanding how, how the NHL works.
But for the most part, he's, he's something else.
If you watch SUNY have it all.
Yeah, I think he's going to be a pretty good player soon.
Got a cannon.
Legit.
Yeah, it looks very confident early.
You have a couple, you should have a couple goals in the last couple of games.
Just crossbar and then just some unlucky sticks at the end or a little bit of a rush shot.
That's another thing too.
Once you, once you get the experience, whatever league you're playing and you adapt to it.
And I think he's going to be able to adapt.
I don't like it's one of those guys that is really good up until the NHL.
And then they just can't figure it out where I think already you can see science.
He's figured shit out too.
Yeah, I know the future is bright.
Got all the kids down in college.
They're three main prospects.
The Wittenbach there.
Rashney.
And let's see other kid there.
They're all going to play one more year, which is awesome.
So did you like that gross kid?
What do you think of him?
Yeah, I think he's pretty good at just.
I love that.
Last night, they're down one one.
And then they were sending him out there as their guy who they need to win face offs.
It's kind of sick.
You know, it'll never.
They'll never be able to keep the pace. He's out the one game.
He was 80% the next game. He was 70 some percent.
Like.
And a good sample size.
You know, when you go eight and two or you go 11 and four, those are.
Those are good nights.
And like you said.
A lot of the young kids get the neutralized face offs or offensive zone face offs.
Then they start putting them back in the D zone, which is.
For a rookie to go out and take D zone face offs.
I know it's.
They're not playing for anything, but even just to put them out there.
And for him to succeed.
That's.
That's a big deal.
And he's a good body.
When one thing in order to spot him.
He's in front of the net.
Every time it's not like he's.
You have to wait for him to get there.
He's battling.
And you know, so obviously cause of frustration with boys, but.
I think that's a guy that.
Teams are going to take a lot of penalties because they have these big.
They're good positioning.
You smart.
And that's usually.
You know, guys that are good at face offs usually have an IQ for the game.
Because you've got to figure out how to beat every single other guy.
Across from me.
So, you know, that's.
One thing about face offs. There's a lot of skill.
It's a lot of timing, but the main thing is his understanding who you're going up against.
And studying and knowing how to beat them.
And it can't figure out a way to beat him.
So.
That bodes well too for.
You know, a third fourth line guy who I think that's where he'll slot in.
But I think he'll be.
He'll be a guy that they don't have to go out and get a 30 year old for when.
The next couple three years.
He'll he'll turn into that guy when he's 25.
20.
Over all to get.
Next couple three years.
Yeah, no future looks right for us.
Good.
How do you think the others did at the last little bit without dry side up, Baba?
I thought they didn't fucking expect accurately.
Well, considering they didn't have him.
And I thought more than more than just.
Winds and losses the way they played.
You know, they started playing the full board playoff hockey.
Just.
Like it should be played.
And I mean, they took Colorado the other night too.
To a shootout and multi rounds into the shootout.
And that was.
And Doug.

My name's Mackenzie and I started to go fund me for the adoptive mother of a nonverbal,
autistic child.
The mother had lost her job because she wasn't able to find adequate care for this autistic child.
So she really needed some help with living expenses, paying some back bills.
So I launched a GoFundMe to help support them during this crisis.
And we raised about $10,000 within just a couple of months.
I think that the surprising thing was by telling a clear story and just like really being very clear about what we needed.
We have some really generous donations from people who are really moved by the situation that this family was struggling with.
GoFundMe is the world's number one fundraising platform trusted by over 200 million people.

This podcast is supported by GoFundMe.
It was just a great game read start to finish.
I hate to say this is the best they've looked in two years.
They look better right now than they did at any point during last season.
I agree.
And they looked fucking phenomenal points in the last season.
Yeah, for stretches, right?
But it was, they didn't, the team didn't look as good.
They had, they had guys playing really good.
Exactly.
And they had a couple, you know, you're always going to have games or your whole team plays good, but not for this.
No, not not for this wrong.
A stretch to be missing, you know, such a key player like, you know, it's.
Type, type, type, right?
Sidel and Hyman.
Yeah.
Yeah, Hyman's supposed to be back for the game tomorrow night.
Vancouver.
Yeah.
Which, you know, I mean, should be a layup, but I fucking hate saying that because it's always a disgusting thing to go in and play against a team that sets shitty at this point of year.
Because it's easy to take them as they're that shitty and play that way.
Yeah.
I don't see them doing it because I think there's too much on too much at stake still for them, but.
And they're just playing a certain way they don't want to, they don't want to deviate from that.
Exactly.
You know, they're playing playoff hockey the way they want to be playing it come, come Saturday or whatever the first game is.
Yeah.
No, and you know what?
The sample size I think for Ingram is big enough now.
Obviously he's going to start.
And I think the next is period.
So I haven't seen him let in a bad goal this month.
Like not one, like not one you went, oh, you should have had that.
It was the ones that beat him or they're supposed to be goalies.
Exactly.
And now he looks, he looks quiet in there.
The rebound controls good.
And that just makes her D so much better, right?
That's the other thing I was going to say is the total team defense looks better.
And part of that is the fact that.
They're not scrambling trying to catch fucking rebounds that are bouncing every direction.
You know, you get spread out, right?
And I think that's been an issue.
For quite a while.
I mean, I'm not going to blame one gold tender or not, but I mean stewie give up some fucking terrible rebounds all the time when he was here.
And Jerry.
Jerry from the park.
Stewie had problems tracking the puck. There's no question.
But he give, he give up bad rebounds too.
You know, like he was, he was last second trying to catch it.
Yeah, exactly.
And I mean, and I mean, Jerry is certainly not the answer.
I mean, maybe he comes up pot.
Maybe we need him in the playoffs.
He comes up pot.
I'm just hoping that we can.
Have a healthy ingram for the whole thing and not have to put anybody else in the net for the whole suit the whole.
Playoff season, so.
Absolutely. Well, speaking of playoffs, should we, uh, should we get into her?
We sure can.
Let's get into her.
All right.
So.
Dale didn't send me his picks.
Yeah.
That's all that.
Back to it.
What do you think of the owners at the end their coop?
Did you watch any games?
I didn't watch too many, but I watched it when they played.
Yeah.
I was a good hockey game.
Ingram led in every single shot in the shootout though.
Yeah.
And that's tough.
You know, shootouts.
I don't.
I don't know how to start into that.
Yeah.
Because what, what effect do they have in the playoffs?
You know, there's no six or shootout to playoff.
So.
It's, it's, it's a one on one skill competition that really is for the fans,
the enjoyment of the game, not for.
Anybody else?
Exactly.
I don't know.
I, when I, when I was in junior, I loved the shootout.
Well, it's not that the guys don't like it.
It's just at the end of the day, it's.
You're going to end the game in a team sport.
On an individual effort.
Yeah.
But you know,
like,
but it's your own fault for yet there.
Yeah.
It's fair enough.
Yeah.
Your own fault to forget there.
It's like,
you know,
if you don't like shootouts,
fucking win regulation, man.
And win in the,
win in the overtime.
I go to overtime and play a lot of over times.
But.
Yeah.
I like it.
And that's what I like season.
And that's what I.
You have to.
Okay.
It's great for the regular season because it,
it gives an ending to the game.
It's far simpler.
It's better than a tie because fucking ties are like kissing
your sister.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And you do kiss your sister all the time.
Maybe, maybe.
I've seen her comments.
So I know that that's the case.
So that's fine.
So I mean,
they're going to season,
but I would never,
ever want to fucking play off game.
No,
not for nothing.
You know,
I want, I want overtime until the fucking game ends.
And if that's seven or eight or nine periods later,
fuck it.
Like, that's the way it works.
I agree.
I agree.
All right.
So I've got Dale's picks.
And Dale has Vegas beating,
which looks like right now to be the Utah mammoth.
He's got the Oilers beating,
which looks like great now to be the ducks.
He's got the avalanche taking out the Kings.
And he's got the wild beating.
He's got the wild beating these, the stars.
Okay.
Good for him.
Good for him.
He's brave for man that I am.
But,
I guess he's got niece.
I can understand his,
his walk for them to win.
See, because they've got Quinn Hughes.
That's right.
You know,
and so in the east,
he has the sabers beating the Bruins.
Yeah.
The Canadians taking out the lightning.
Yeah.
He's got the hurricanes beating the Saber or the Senators.
Yeah.
And he has the penguins beating flyers in the fucking battle
of Pennsylvania,
which is always an ugly fucking contest.
It's not quite the battle of Alberta,
but it's probably the next closest,
most hated rivalry.
It's up for,
specifically for an interprovence interstate battle, right?
You know,
absolutely.
You know, it's Florida tap is Florida.
Florida tap is pretty crazy too.
There's no question.
They've turned it up the last couple of four years.
Yeah.
The other one is just longer standing.
That's all.
That's right.
That's right.
All right.
Well, let's do,
let's do each series and we'll each give a pick.
And then we'll just go from there.
All right.
Let's go.
Let's start with you and the abs and the kings.
Yeah.
I think don't really need to talk about this one that much.
I think that's a five game Colorado.
Gentlemen,
sweet.
I think that's a pretty fair assessment.
I would,
I would put my pick somewhere in that range as well.
I think Colorado is a much better team than Ellie is.
Ellie.
Played well at the end of the season in order to get into the playoffs,
but I don't think they played very good hockey all year long.
And you know,
sometimes you don't have to.
I think that,
you know, they got a,
they got an older team.
I don't think it's going to be that easy.
I think,
I think Colorado is going to win it.
But you know,
with the Copa tar factor in there.
And you know,
can't pay every playoff to side.
He's going to be the best player in the ice for the most part.
So I think,
I think they're going to win Colorado,
but I think it's going to go six.
Okay.
I think it's going to go six.
All right.
Let's move on to Dallas and the wild.
Good.
I think that's a seven game for sure.
I'm going to take Dallas though.
There's much deeper.
Okay.
I don't think Minnesota has that big of a depth.
Not more star power for sure.
I think,
I think you probably right.
I think it's definitely going to,
I think it's a seven game or as well.
And I do think Dallas is probably going to take it, but.
I hate you.
You hate to bet against anybody who's got a good goal tending.
And they both can have absolute star goal tending.
So.
You know,
it could be overtime in game seven.
To come down to.
Yeah.
It's probably the craziest series where all four,
four goal tenors can win you a series.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Four months.
Is what it is.
I think,
I think some years we've come out.
It's been.
It's looked really good.
And I think the couple of years,
it's been a little off if he, but.
But it is what it is.
I mean,
how do you want to do it differently?
We,
they did it this way intentionally to.
Try to promote the rivalries in within the division.
For the first round of this of the series, especially.
Yeah.
I don't mind it at all because you got to,
you got to go through the hard teams anyways.
Yeah.
Right.
And sometimes when it goes the other way,
there's an upset.
And you don't get to see the big battle.
Yeah.
You want to see.
This way for the most part,
the chances of seeing the big battle,
you're going to see it.
It just might not be the time you want to see it.
And if you're a fan of that team,
it sucks when you get.
Punted the first round.
And if you're an owner,
sucks if you're a team that worked that hard all year.
To get that many wins.
And have to go against a jug or not the first round.
But again,
you're holding your own cards in your own hand.
And if.
Don't like it,
you should have been better during the regular season.
I don't give as much stock to Minnesota as you guys do.
I think,
I think Dallas needs and knows
that they've got to get through Minnesota quickly.
And I think there's going to be a sense of urgency there.
That team knows,
you know,
this is.
This is going to be the year
that whoever comes up between them and Colorado
has a really good chance of getting to the cup this year.
And.
I think Dallas is going to take it in five.
I think it's going to surprise everybody.
But I think gotten your from last year is going to shut the door,
be an absolute beast.
And I think Ranton is going to do what Ranton and do.
And I think this is near that Robertson has some,
you know,
he's always done good in class.
But they're going to be healthy too.
Hints is going to be back.
And.
I just think.
Like you said,
like you said,
coop, they're deep.
I think Minnesota,
they, they,
they got the right kind of team to go far.
But I think Dallas has got the team that will go far.
And I think they're,
yeah, I'm going,
I'm going Dallas in five.
I think that's probably,
I don't think you're being in the person on the planet
to say that,
but I think that's where it's going.
Okay.
All right,
let's move on to the golden nights and the mammoth.
That's a tough one.
Other teams like,
Utah's been playing good recently,
but I just don't see them going past the first round.
And Vegas has been playing pretty bad recently,
but I think I have to go with them in six because it,
John Torrella.
Yeah, I think,
I think it's the first time the mammoth has a franchise
of got to playoffs.
You know, obviously they have before
with previous versions,
but,
but this,
this team is new to it.
Torrella has got them playing much better hockey than they were.
I still don't think they're a great team.
The golden nights,
I think that,
I think that they were fortunate to get where they are so far
this year,
but,
but I still see them taking up method Utah,
unfortunately,
so,
as much as I'd like to see Utah beat them.
Horts has come in there and recently they've been the hottest team
in the NHL.
Right?
For five games.
Got whatever five games,
but that's a team that played good enough to be near the top all year
and then end the year at five.
They're healthy.
I think that I,
I struggle with the them as goal tending.
It's been hot and cold and,
you know,
they've, they've got guys
are the one that caught,
so you can't take that away.
They, they understand it.
They got torts there now and they're fine in their stride.
They're fine in their stride.
They're a big heavy team.
Rasmus Sanderson is finally starting to look like
what they did to get them was worth it.
And their decore is solid.
They got one of the most elite players in the world with Eichel.
And they've got,
they got a bunch of hounds.
So I don't think that was going long.
I think, I think the mammoth will sneak too out.
I think that'll go six,
but definitely Vegas is.
Vegas is.
I think they're ready.
All right.
Oilers and the duck scoop.
I think that's.
Oilers and six for sure.
I think Anaheim's way more physical,
but.
Oilers just going to take him out.
Yeah, and I think it's going to depend.
I mean, the way they've been playing the Oilers
are going to play them hard.
Period.
You know,
their defenses has just been drastically improved team wise.
And, you know,
as we talked about earlier.
And I assume dry side is coming back.
So exactly when at this point,
whether he's going to make game one or game two or game three,
but.
I think when you add him back into the roster,
I think that's just.
That's too much star power for a team that's too young on the other side.
You know, not that they don't have some veterans,
because they certainly do,
but.
They don't have a bunch of veterans that I got a ton of playoff experience.
So I think that's.
Going to be the biggest difference between the two teams.
Oh, I think this could be the sweep.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Oilers take him in four.
But the only thing that worries me is,
goodness, his wires have been crossed since the Olympics.
And I need to see something stupid happen out there with.
With that monkey out there.
Yeah, he's been.
Absolutely fucking unhinged since the Olympics.
And we talked about it before.
The suspension wasn't long enough.
More should have been done.
Absolutely.
And Doug.
There's nowhere I wouldn't go to help someone customize

My name's Mackenzie and I started to go find me for the adoptive mother
of a nonverbal autistic child.
The mother had lost her job because she wasn't able to find out what care
for this autistic child.
So she really needed some help with living expenses,
paying some back bills.
So I launched a GoFundMe to help support them during this crisis.
And we raised about $10,000 within just a couple of months.
I think that the surprising thing was by telling a clear story
and just like really being very clear about what we needed.
We have some really generous donations from people
who are really moved by the situation that this family was struggling with.

I don't even think you should be on the ice, but that's my own opinion.
So anyway, we'll move on from that.
So let's move to the east end.
Sabers and the Bruins, Koop.
I think Sabers, you're going to pull it out in six, maybe five.
Yeah, I think that's going to be, I think that's going to be a closer series
than we think.
And it just comes down to Boston being Boston.
I do think Buffalo is going to beat him.
I think Buffalo is a better team.
But you can't, you can ever count out a team from Boston.
They always fucking work hard.
And that team has got some pretty legit goal-scoring ability as well.
Up and down the line, too.
Not just one or two guys and spread out, so.
Fully?
Yeah, I'm going, I'm going original six here.
I'm, you know, elated that Buffalo's in a level watching them play,
turn their season around, give that town something to root for.
The future is only going to be good.
But Bruins haven't played in playoff hockey all year.
They've had to.
Yep.
And they're, they're small area game is one of the best in the league.
You got Jeremy Swamin back there.
You can steal your games.
And anytime Posternox on your team, you've got a chance to win.
He's that good.
I'm going, I'm going, Bruins and sex.
I'm going, Bruins and sex.
All right.
So the Habs and the Lightning group.
What do you think?
One, it's tough because.
Montreal was going to say I was going to say they're our best hope for Canada to win a cup,
but it's hard to bet against Andre Vasolevsky and Tampa's decorer.
Like, plus just how heavy they are up front, but I'll say.
Montreal and seven triple overtime.
Oh boy.
I love the Habs.
I love the way they're playing hockey right now.
But I've got to go a Tampa Bay that's.
When you have the best goal tender in the league.
And you've got a.
You know, you know,
you know,
certainly a top five player.
If not better than that in the league.
You can't ever count them out, you know, and.
I do.
I love the way Montreal's playing right now.
I love the kids.
Well, they're playing.
I love all the rest of it.
But.
Tampa's just.
The fucking juggernaut.
And they've been a juggernaut all all your long.
Yeah, Tampa even last year should have got a better.
A better outcome.
I thought they were good last year.
They're only better this year.
And.
The.
The biggest hesitation I got with Montreal is.
You've got Suzuki with a hundred points.
You've got.
Slavkowski with 70.
And then he got coffee filled with 80 or 90.
That's all in the same line.
Yep.
And they're going to shut that line down.
They're going to get their points.
You know, it's too good of a line not to get points.
But they're not going to be as prolific as they were in the regular season.
And.
Tampa's just got, you know, they brought back the right guys.
And they went and got the right guys like they always do.
And.
Yeah, I think as much as I'd like see Montreal win.
And that's tough for me to say to.
I think it's going to go.
I think it's going to go Tampa in five.
I don't think that one's going to go long.
I think Tampa realizes to and I don't.
I don't think Montreal is going to be physical enough.
To handle what Tampa is going to bring to him.
And.
You know, they don't have Patrick one net.
They don't have carried price in that.
So.
Their goal tenon isn't.
I don't think anywhere near the level of the guy.
And that's on the other side of the ice.
I think that's going to be their biggest downfall.
It's the lack of scoring in the front line.
And the goal tending duel will be one pretty handily.
And I think.
Tampa's a.
Tampa's a juggernaut on that side of the of the of the country.
So yeah, Tampa and.
No, I'm going to give Montreal one more game since Montreal.
You got to play in the four.
So I'll go Tampa in six.
Okay.
All right.
That leaves us here.
We got two left.
So.
The hurricanes in the senators scoop.
This is going to sound like a shot in the dark, but I think that's.
That one might go seven to Ottawa.
They're not.
Ottawa was not waiting that series, but they're going to.
They're going to put up one hell of a fight for sure.
I think Carolina takes that in seven.
Okay.
I think Carolina takes it, but probably in five or six.
I think they're just that much better a team overall.
And you've got too many injuries on the Ottawa side to.
To genuinely.
Who's heard.
A big fight.
Defense would have been heard all season long.
Yeah, but I thought they're getting a bunch back here ready to go.
I didn't think.
I thought they were missing some for the start of the playoffs, but.
Well, that being said, I'm going to I'm going to disagree with both.
I think Ottawa.
Just.
The.
Teams that play for each other.
Always do good in playoffs.
And that team plays for for each other on the ice.
They got.
They got.
Yeah.
I just I just don't have faith in Carolina like.
Their buzz saw as they play the same way every time you know exactly what you're going to get.
And if you can figure out how you know to get them.
In their own zone.
And keep them from just pounding you and getting the puck deep and.
Doing their cycles and getting they shoot from everywhere.
You know, getting the lanes.
I think it I think that's I just.
Yeah, I'm going.
I'm going Ottawa.
I want to see.
I want to see Ottawa get out of that one.
So I'm going to go Ottawa and six.
Yeah, I just think that that bus you they haven't netted in.
Carolina's played really well most of the season.
Yeah.
I think that's.
I think that's the biggest boost they've got over Ottawa right now is that their goal tending has been.
Better and consistent all year long.
Where's auto has been up and down and up and down.
And they're not running into the playoffs on a big hot streak or anything.
So.
And the only thing about goalies that are, you know, young and inexperience when they play in the regular season.
It's a completely different game in the playoffs.
They're going to have.
He's going to have people beside him in front of him.
He's going to have people crashing the net, you know, especially especially Ottawa.
And you know, what how well you saved the puck in the regular season.
We'll see.
We'll see.
He's untested.
He's going to have a good, good okay regular season, but we'll see when it gets to play off hockey and.
See if he can handle the traffic and handle the noise and handle.
Yeah.
And I mean, just this what's coming at you.
The thing is he's a 27 year old rookie.
He's not a 22 or 24 year old.
Either right.
So he's definitely got a little more.
A more time under his belt.
Let's say then.
Then you're standard NHL goalie rookies.
I don't agree.
But I still think he's got a.
He's he's he's got a.
And you'll know you'll watch the first couple games and if you can handle it, they'll be.
We'll be in good shape, but I just want to see how do I get by him.
So I'm giving him the mojo.
Go out of law.
And then last.
Is the battle of Pennsylvania.
Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
Who putty figured it on.
This one.
I'll probably try to watch the most.
It'll be nasty.
For winner.
Tired.
Really hard to bet against Cindy Crosby and anything.
It's all like pens and six.
Six.
Yeah.
Yeah, I go with you on that.
I think that's about where it's going to end up.
I think Pittsburgh overall is more a slightly more talented team than Philly is.
You know, they've got a bunch of young guys in Pittsburgh behind Crosby and stuff that have played.
Well for spurts of the season and overall are the big surprise and the reason what they are where they are.
You know, as much as sit is the leader of that team.
He's one of the best leaders in hockey and you know, he's led that team.
To play well this year.
Yeah.
Philly.
Yeah, you call Sydney one of the best leaders.
He is the best leader.
Proved.
Proved when he went down for Canada.
And like we talked about how how that team didn't fall apart, not not saying that.
But you could just see.
No, Sydney.
There wasn't that calmness.
There wasn't that presence.
That being said, I didn't even think we'd be talking about the penguins at the end of the year.
And then for I don't know how many 10 or 11 guys had career years this year.
And I think, you know, with all the trade talk about Sydney at the start, giving them a run.
I think every guy in that locker room took that personally.
So you count this out.
We still have.
We still have a tang.
We still have milk and we got Carlson.
You know, math.
I got 30 goals this year.
They're like.
You know, they're.
No, no, no, we're still.
We're still a force and they proved it.
I think they're going to get them in five.
I just don't.
You know, Dan Vodar has been, you know, the ex-cogrey flame has been.
Philly's best player this year.
He's.
He's.
Absolutely.
The main reason that there are where they're at.
And I just don't see.
I don't see him carrying him that far in that series.
So.
And I think.
This, you know, I think it's going to be.
This might be the Cinderella year, you know.
I don't know.
We get, get to the second round and we do our picks in the second round.
But, uh, yeah, definitely Philly.
And I think it's going to be a short one.
I think it's only going to go five.
Oh, and one, one more thing I.
I would be happy.
So I see Trevor Zegers picking up his teeth.
Yeah.
Right, right after a Michigan.
He's going to do a Michigan.
And so he's going to just miss it.
It's somebody's going to come across his his sticks going to be up high.
And there's sticks going to be up high to block it.
And so it's going to be a sweet ass follow through.
And he's going to be on the ice.
Like you said down again.
Look, looking for his checklets.
Looking for his pearly Ivory's lights.
Yeah, Pittsburgh five.
Like that's where I'm at.
All right.
I'm good with that.
So that leaves a time for.
Here.
So this.
Coup, you weren't even around in the 80s.
So you might not know where I'm going with this, but.
Back in the 80s.
There used to be two restaurants.
And they're no longer here with us anymore.
You remember Bonanza?
Oh, yeah.
And Ponderosa.
I don't remember Ponderosa.
I remember banza though.
It was a banza.
So.
So what they were.
They were like home cooking buffet.
Like home, home cooking like roast beef, meatloaf.
And there was this huge buffet in the head.
You know, lots of salads.
It's like if you took.
Every family meal.
And.
You know, just dumped whatever you've had over the last 20 years.
On to like four tables.
And then you just ate like a crazy person.
And then there's a 20 desserts.
And.
I remember it's always.
We would go to hockey tournaments.
And I'd be like,
Oh, we're going to Calgary.
Maybe we get to go to Bonanza.
Well, let's.
Yes.
And then Ponderosa was the same.
I thought Ponderosa was actually better than Bonanza.
And more of a higher end.
You know, food.
You know, the gravy didn't have an inch.
That crossed on it.
Maybe just some eighth of an inch.
Across the.
But.
No, you know, I don't.
Country kitchen.
I think their country kitchen still around.
I know there was.
It was one last time I see one was in Fort McMurray.
But that was.
I think that.
I don't see any of those home style buffets anymore.
You still got your.
You know, your Chinese buffet or whatever.
I don't know can.
Cooper, have you ever been to like a home style buffet place?
I don't think so.
I've been to places with his buffet, but.
Like what kind of buffets like mostly Chinese food, right?
Then they'll have the odd like maybe a roast beef station.
I'm about fries and gravy.
But like this one would have like macaroni and cheese.
Meatloaf, a hamburger station pizza.
Past the bar.
A little bit of everything kind of thing.
Pretty much.
Turkey, ham.
We'll be going to like breakfast buffets.
Yeah, I like breakfast buffets, too.
Breakfast buffets usually good, yeah.
The best breakfast buffet that I've ever been to is at the Imperial Palace.
It's no longer around anymore.
But used to go down there and get country fried steak.
Corn beef hash.
Hash browns with cheese.
I get a monster omelet.
And then as much bacon as I could pile on the plate.
And then tomato.
And then I toast my own toast, get mayonnaise.
So I'd make bacon tomato sandwich.
I'd make an absolute disaster myself at that place.
But I loved it.
That's one plate.
Oh, no, I'd have like three plates, man.
I don't want cheese.
Well, the breakfast buffets and all the buffets and vagus are insane.
That I want an Imperial.
I walk out of there and I could feel my joints and everything swelling up
because of all the salt that was in it.
Good for your high blood pressure, right?
Yeah, it was great.
Pretty sure that's where my high blood pressure originated.
It is.
It's still trying to digest that much sodium from the morning.
Because I'd hit it.
Like, and we'd get enough points in our, you know, your card, your VIP card or whatever.
And your player's card or whatever it was called.
And then yeah, whatever I spent the day, I saw bad.
I'd lose whatever I spent the day before.
I'd always be able to get a free buffet in the morning.
Plus pay for the next trip's hotel room.
So that's how much I lose down there.
But that was my area of the 80s.
I miss the old time.
Old time buffets.
I was just thinking about it there.
And I'm like, yeah, what's...
I couldn't remember the name of the...
I couldn't remember bananas.
I couldn't remember ponderosa.
And I had to look it up.
And Doug.

I found it and saw pictures of it.
It just brought me back like the old checkered tablecloth.
You know what I mean?
It just looked like a big family dinner with a whole bunch of people you didn't want to be with.
It's kind of like a family dinner.
Great places to go with hockey team or so.
Oh yeah.
What did you guys go anywhere this year?
Coop that was cool that you had a good meal at or a place you're keen like to go?
Yeah, sometimes earlier in the year like in the fall after a couple like preseason games,
we'd go to tracks for wings whenever we had like a new niche game.
On the road though, do you remember like a tournament finding a gym of a restaurant or anything like that?
Not really.
It's just kind of like one that you've like never heard of before the foods.
Pretty alright.
Yon's parogi factory or something like that.
God, can you imagine that after a hockey game?
How fucking heavy that to sit in your stomach?
Oh, we used to go to a tournament every Christmas and Andrews.
So that's like a parogi city in that area, right?
You could either get the egg and all that shit and Vegaville and.
Oh, you think you're Bill.
We'd always we'd have a big dinner in the in the ranked they put on the big.
Just a huge scoff of parogi sausage sauerkraut.
Just a huge Ukrainian dinner.
We suggest gorgeous cells again.
It's just absolute fucking lead in your stomach for the next day to a.
Well, it was such a good tournament.
We went there, I think two years in a row, maybe three.
And the shenanigans we got up to.
Remember we had to rest his rest his soul rest in peace.
Corey Philip off was my best friend at the time.
And he better said he couldn't fit inside a hockey bag.
Because our hockey bags weren't as big as they are now.
They call them a hockey locker for a reason right back.
It's back in the day they were a lot smaller.
So we better couldn't get in there.
And some guy said flipper buck down.
So he got naked and I don't know why I did it, but he did it.
You got it.
We zip them up and he couldn't get out.
So we went and it was still dark.
We had the first game.
And so we got naked naked flipper in there.
And we threw them on the ice.
And the lights came on and there's this bag out on the ice of this kid kicking its scream and almost crying.
I think we're 11 or 12.
So it was very young.
And then one of the assistant coaches went grab the bag and flipper popped out.
Buck naked screaming crying as like off of hangover with the naked guy jumps out of the truck.
He tried to fuck on me.
He tried to fuck on me.
Cory Philip off.
That was the year too that he peed in the ice machine.
So that was kind of a tradition.
That was kind of funny.
Stay off of the second floor ice machine because flipper peed in it.
What a beauty.
What a beauty.
Good lord.
How did your season end coupe?
We made it to the third round of playoffs.
And then ours there's third is the final round for our tier.
And then the fourth would be the whole like tier two of the league.
We lost out in the third round.
Which I can sandbaggers that they lit up our tears since day one.
They had two kids that made from Rocky Mountain House.
Two kids that made Sylvan like double A.
But then they for some reason quit and played here.
Those kids weren't tearing.
And then so they got into like art here and they just laid everybody up.
We did beat them.
We played them four times all year.
We beat them three.
We worked our bags off.
But then playoffs.
We kind of just fell off on the third round.
Did they where they forwards or D?
The good kids.
Both one were forwards and they're on the same line.
And then they had this big person of your kind.
He would like protect them with his life.
What do you mean my kind?
Don't be afraid to say it.
It's like Robert Downey Jr.
Tropic Thunder.
My kind.
You mean, you mean just handsome and devilishly smart?
I get it.
I mean, they're bearing with you.
Fantastic.
No, they do their power play line.
Those two, they would just feed each other back door.
And he would tie up the demand in front.
And he didn't drop that off.
Far side forward down to come in.
Make it like a three one.
Well, no, they love their whole system is based on like they have.
They do like a kind of a one man forecheck with the indigenous guy.
Who goes fucks everything up?
And then they love creating many two on ones.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, your your your coaches must have been able to figure it out.
So you can still beat two good guys in the ice.
Yeah.
But you got to you got to do it.
You got to do it smartly.
And you got to have guys that understand and buy.
And a lot of patients when you got, you know,
when you the guys have got the puck have good skill.
Very guy song.
And it's time for.
But was drunk in movie titles.
Yeah, okay.
Do you know how to play this group?
I heard it the last point.
He says it like.
Sentinums were basically basically sentiments for the title.
Yeah.
Yes.
Cinnamon hot cross buns as well.
Hot cross buns.
Yeah.
All right.
First one up guys is.
Yeah, precipitation fellow.
Red man.
Red man.
Bingo.
Good job guys.
The emerald wasp.
Green hornet.
I knew it made him too fucking easy this week.
The mechanical sheriff.
Robocop.
There you go.
Good boy.
Good boy.
Good boy.
He's ready to audit.
Yeah.
That's an American.
It was a Robocop 80s or 90s.
Probably 90s.
It was 80s.
What was the 80s?
Let me check.
Let me make sure.
But I think it was like 88.
It was like right.
It was right with Terminator.
87.
That's how it goes.
87.
When I said 88.
Yeah, 87.
All right.
Caucasian males are unable to leap.
White man can't jump.
White man can't jump.
I didn't make any fucking easy.
I actually watched the new one there the other night.
It's terrible.
Oh, it's it's worse than terrible.
Yeah.
The first one is such a fucking classic movie.
I mean, Woody Harrelson and Wesley Hyde together are so fucking good in that.
Yeah.
Oh, I thought the other one was brought off to see a reboot.
I was like, man.
There's just certain movies you shouldn't reboot.
And that's what I felt was one where.
It was the chemistry between those two that made the movie.
Not the movie itself being that good.
Well, and that's a.
You know, right?
The plot with the plot and you don't have CGI.
So you're not going to have a better, you know, the.
The future ain't going to make it better.
Exactly.
And you're right.
The chemistry wasn't there.
It was.
I mean, bro.
When you've got such great chemistry, like you.
You know, it's one thing, like you said, if you're aiming for something you can do better with CGI or you can do.
You know, maybe they didn't quite have the best chemistry, but the plot was really good.
You know, change that up.
Maybe you can make it a better one, but.
Yeah, I just didn't feel like there was any way to do to do much better on on it.
And I couldn't even watch it.
So they did up it in one scene.
Yeah.
Remember the scene in white man can jump when they're playing in their hustling dudes.
And buddy gets past.
He goes to his car and gets his gun and starts.
You know, lighten up the place.
Well, in the second one, but he goes and grabs a flame thrower out of it.
She's just crazy.
Just.
What's walking around with the flame thrower though?
I mean, let's be honest here.
At least once realistic.
You know, in the States, it's not too hard to imagine somebody running around with the pistol under their seat or whatever, but.
But yeah, anyway,
fifth and final one.
Hoodlin.
Hoodlin.
Yeah.
Gangsters.
Nope.
Gangs in New York.
No.
I would have put something more to you to the title than that for Gangs in New York.
I had to have had.
Hoodlin.
Yeah.
Is it one word?
It's a one word title.
Hoodlin.
Hoodlin.
Get out.
No.
Can you give us the year?
Yeah.
2011.
Red Friday.
No.
I was.
I guarantee you guys have watched this movie at least once.
If not more than that.
Great.
No to Compton.
No.
Is it an inner city movie?
No, not at all.
Is it a western?
No.
Sci-fi.
No.
Romantic comedy.
No.
Drama.
No.
Comedy not drama.
I said it's not romantic.
I didn't say it was.
Is it a comedy?
It's a comedy.
Okay.
Hoodlin comedy in 2011.
Somebody else.
A semi-serious comedy though.
There's parts of it that's comedy and parts of it we would take more seriously.
You're for bad?
No.
Is it an ensemble or is there a main star?
There's a bunch of others.
There's two big names in it and some other minor characters.
And I say big names.
I'm not talking superstars.
I'm just talking recognizable names.
Yes.
That's an ensemble.
There's a bunch of pretty well known people and a couple more well known.
Me, 11.
And it's kind of a comedy, but it's not a comedy.
It's a kind of a drama.
It's it's a comp.
There's lots of comedic moments in it.
And I'm not.
I'm not.
We'll.
I'll come up with this one here.
It's a hint.
Is that we definitely quote it from time to time.
Maybe even more than time to time at times.
Is there sports involved at all?
There's sports involved.
So it's basketball movie.
No.
Oh.
Oh.
Okay.
Baseball movie.
No.
No hockey movie.
A hockey movie.
A hockey movie.
Young.
No.
2011.
Good.
Woodland.
Goon.
Goon.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good job.
I mean, how else do you find another name for a goon?
I mean, they.
I literally used the synonym finder.
And one of the ones that come up with a hoodlum.
I'm like, well, that's.
Yeah.
I've heard guys on the ice that work out goons.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, it makes sense.
Makes sense.
I.
I found a fish.
Been watching River Monsters.
Okay.
That.
Once or twice.
Not very often.
But yeah.
You ever watch how in coop River Monsters.
I don't think so.
But he goes around the world and tries to find fresh water fish
that have.
Cause somebody's death.
So he travels like.
All of the Africa popping again.
He's got sturgeon.
But there's one fish.
And it took him six weeks to catch it.
It was called the Gooch.
It's a Gooch catfish.
And it's huge.
Got a head on it bigger than me.
And it could put like swallow, but that is when he said goon.
I was like.
I'm going to catch the Gooch.
And just.
In our family.
The word Gooch was used as a female spree.
And then what show had the Gooch on it?
Oh, it was a different stroke.
He was the bully.
The Gooch.
Yes.
That's right.
Yeah.
They were in South Asia somewhere.
He says.
The.
The Cali River.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So he's one and one.
He tried to find.
The one he caught was 161 pounds.
It's huge.
And it's all had one.
Yeah.
It was 161 pounds.
It's huge.
And it's all had.
And the things are Matt.
And they got teeth.
You know, catfish usually got that gummy or like hard.
Mouth looked like the smaller piece.
This is a big huge head.
Yeah.
Pointy spiking teeth on a.
Rip you apart.
Yeah, at least.
Since they can go to over six feet long, acting as the top predator in the Ganges and Cali River.
Yeah.
It took him six weeks to catch the one.
And that was the original River monster.
And then the second time he never caught it.
You thought he had one on his line there.
I guess they have a real distinctive tap.
And.
Yeah.
However, you know, the fishing lingo goes when you're about to set your hook.
They do it a certain way.
And you thought he had another one.
But it it snapped his line.
Drug him into the water.
Drug him off a cliff into the water.
That's how much it pulled.
Yeah.
And the one the other time that he that he called when he got drug across the water.
So the things are not.
Guch don't mess with the Guch.
Yeah.
