I mean, is it the best night time show they have in Orlando?
Yeah, in Orlando.
Yeah, I think so.
I think so too.
I don't, I didn't love harmonious.
It's okay or whatever the new one is.
I don't remember if that's what it's called now.
And I don't really care about just straight up fireworks.
Yeah, the happily ever after doesn't do it for me.
I mean, back when it was illuminations,
I think illuminations hands down was the best.
Yeah, night time spectacular, but.
Welcome foolish mortals.
Time to be turned around.
It won't be you.
Because this here's a wildest ride in the wilderness.
Hey, Henry, what's holding up?
Let's get on with the show.
We can't hang around here all day.
Ladies and gents, this is the moment you've put it for.
There's no turning back now.
This is the greatest show.
It's time for the light.
The way is running tonight.
Impossible going through.
It's thinking over you.
This is the greatest show.
Now it's time for the WDW Beyond the Gates podcast.
With your hosts, Michael Hurley and Gary Arruda.
This is the greatest show.
That's right.
This is the WDW Beyond the Gates podcast,
recorded from the Defantler Roy Studios in Kent County,
Rhode Island.
It's sunny selfless Florida.
I'm your host, Gary.
As always, by my co-host and my cousin, Mike,
out of Florida.
How are you doing today, Michael?
I'm fantastic.
Parts, how are you?
I'm doing all right.
I can't complain.
We recorded last night with Kristen,
our episode number one of the elevated escape to luxury travel
podcast.
And she did not like my introduction.
I said, okay, fine.
I said, you have to write it then, okay?
Well, I mean, we're already.
We haven't even recorded episode one.
We're already having our issues.
Hold on.
Now, I listened to the first 40 seconds of the podcast.
Okay.
And I had, I turned it off because I was laughing too hard
at the AI voice you used for the introduction.
What do you mean?
There's just the accent was cracking me up.
Oh, that wasn't AI.
No, that was an actual part.
I assume that was AI.
Yes.
No, no, no, no, no.
I think, um, I think you paid someone to do AI.
I don't think you got a real person.
I think you've got someone that uses an AI voice.
No, I use that thing that we've, that we've always used.
Fiverr?
Yeah.
You have a people on there are probably using AI.
So they're getting your content and they're plugging it into AI
and sending it back to you.
No, that was a real person.
I was dying at the voice.
It was cracking me up.
I couldn't, like, keep listening.
I lost it.
Oh, it's like, I heard your little, like, intro-free cursor.
And then the music goes, like, oh, this is nice music.
And then the voice kicked in.
And I just started laughing at the accent.
I can't do it.
No, I had to get, no, I had to get a British.
I wanted a British person.
Because British reeks luxury.
I guess it may be, it may be left.
I'll listen to it eventually, but I was actually trying to do it.
I don't, I don't want you to listen to it.
I'm, I am not your target audience.
Yes, you are.
You do, you do upscaled.
You do Disney.
Well, that's true.
Um, I, uh, no, I was actually going in to, uh,
trying to remember what we talked about on our last episode
about when we did the 321, I was doing a little bit of research.
And then I saw that and I was like, oh, let me listen to this real quick.
And then I got to the, to the British accent and I started laughing.
And I got distracted.
And then I sent you a screenshot of you being angry from the transcript,
which also distract.
I, I had like a mic moment with ADHD.
I just got distracted by things.
That's a worse, isn't it?
Yeah.
Then you start going down a rabbit hole and then, then you're gone.
The transcript I sent you, the screenshot.
That might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
Where's just transcribing our nonsense on Spotify?
We said, did I'm angry?
Yeah.
And then you said, you're angry tonight.
And then I said, I'm always angry with all that is true.
It is true, but it's just funny to see it written out like that.
It's one thing to hear it.
It's another thing to see it written out.
Did you know?
I don't know if it's available for all podcasts, but I know Spotify now has video.
You could put like your video podcast up on Spotify.
They always have.
I just haven't figured that out because I have us signed up through pod bean.
Okay.
And I'm just not sure how to do the video portion.
Yeah.
I don't know either.
Because I upload the only, the only video I upload is through YouTube.
Gotcha.
And then I can designate that as a podcast.
So if you're on YouTube music, you can search for us via podcasts and just get the audio off.
And just get the audio, but you can switch because I upload the video.
Gotcha.
So you can switch between audio and video.
And I know, you know, when you used to edit this and upload it, we had them all signed up.
Whether it be Apple podcasts, Spotify or whatever, but we would always just upload the MP3 audio to that.
Because you were editing pre YouTube.
Right.
Correct.
I think I got to start handing.
I got to hand this back.
I took over when you had kids for a year after that.
But then you took it back for a couple of years and then it fell on my lap a long time ago.
Did it not?
I think in the contract for addicted to DVC, it means you are the engineer in perpetuity.
So you're saying that there was some, there was some very fine print that you probably didn't read.
That if I shoehorned you into a second podcast that you know that you would just showing up.
You would just be the talent you didn't have to do anything else.
That's fair.
That's fair.
It was in my contract.
So unfortunately, your lawyer, as we said on our last episode, we don't have the best lawyers.
And so when I knew I stuck that in there, there was no chance he was going to catch that and let you know.
No chance.
But what else is new in your neck of the woods?
Well, it's funny because like I said, I was said yesterday it was our first recording edited it and threw it up.
So tonight I told Chris that I said, um, we're recording tonight.
Meaning you and I, because you have a work trip.
The, the horror.
Would that were in her eyes?
It was as if the house was on fire.
Oh, she thought you matter.
She was recording that, that is correct.
And she just, she had this horrific look on her eyes and she said, we are.
I said, no, Gary and I are.
And I said, don't look too scared.
I'm like, there's going to become times where we, you know, you know how you and I broadcast professionals.
You know, we got something comes up.
Oh, we got to record in a half hour.
And we're ready.
Yeah.
You can tell the listeners can tell by listening to us that we don't really need to prepare much.
Whether we want to whether we need to or not, we don't.
That's up for the listeners to decide.
We got my hammer.
I love this thing.
I got to get you one.
If I sent you one, would you use it?
Sure.
Why not?
Nice.
Well, you think you'd ever fly Emirates?
Probably not.
Do they do domestic flights?
No, they do.
You want to go to Dubai?
Not particularly.
Oh, I'm dying.
That's on my list.
My coworker just got back.
Oh, really?
He went, um, his wife from India.
So they went to India and they stopped in Dubai on the way back.
Does he want to come on my show?
You can ask him.
I don't think they did anything.
How the hell am I going to reach out?
I won't.
I'm basically looking for a warm introduction.
You can ask him.
Like, I'm going to see him tomorrow.
Well,
you work in a lake with ranch, late site.
What?
I meant to say I can ask him.
But I don't think they did a luxury.
It was probably.
Dubai's luxury.
Yeah.
Well, I know what he makes.
And I don't think he was doing luxury parts.
I, you know what?
I honestly think you'd like to buy.
It's right.
It's, it's resorts in food.
I, if you could, if I had like a warp machine and I could just be there,
I'd be fine saying you don't want to do that 11 hour flight.
Correct.
Yeah.
And I, and neither do I.
Correct.
I mean, I give you crap.
I don't like, I don't like long legs either.
They're paying.
I don't like them at all.
But.
Unfortunately, if you want to see the places that I want to see,
I have to suck it up.
I'll just wait for them to build a Saudi Arabian Epcot and check it out there.
Well, they're, they're going to what?
Oh, not a Saudi Arabia Epcot, but where they, that's Abu Dhabi, right?
Oh, something like that.
Yeah, they're building a, yeah, that's right.
I forgot about that.
I think it's Abu Dhabi in the United Emirates.
Could be.
I can't remember, but I do remember seeing it.
I just don't remember the exact.
All right, anyway, so this week, we're doing our next series in the.
The three to one game, right?
The three to one game.
You liked that one, don't you?
This was your baby.
And now I've kind of glombed onto it.
And I like, I like it.
Because there's been a lot of times, Mike, where we come up with an idea for a series.
And we do the first one.
And then we never do it again because that's never happened.
What are you talking about?
And the only reason is because I feel like we both feel the same way as we don't want to do it.
Like four in a row.
Yeah.
And then we forget.
And then we get three months down the line.
I'm like, well, now it's point exactly right.
Yeah, you don't want to do, like we don't want to do those Google reviews for restaurants.
And use them all up in three weeks.
And then, yeah, no, you're exactly right.
Because there's no intent on, you know, we come up with a good topic idea.
And it's like, well, we can't do it again next week.
Because then it just shows it where lazy thugs.
Right.
So, but at least this one's been like three weeks and we're bringing it back.
So we have our three to one Hollywood studios, which I think.
If I did the math correctly, there's only three rides, two shows in one restaurant in the theme park.
Anyways, this should be pretty easy thing.
I said, this is going to be so easy because there, I don't even know if there's three attractions at Hollywood studios.
Yeah.
So I came up with my list.
I think our lists are going to be similar to a large extent just based on the numbers game.
But maybe we'll be surprised.
There's enough.
There are enough rides that we may not have the same list.
And I will say for the most part, the rides they do have are pretty good.
I like the Hollywood studios.
They are great.
There's just not a ton of them.
And they're all kind of headliners.
So they all have long lines.
I think Hollywood studios is a miserable experience overall.
Yeah.
There's too many bottlenecks.
It's just not my, it's, it's my least favorite by far.
And it could be great if they brought back more of the street atmosphere and the performers and stuff.
We, we, Chris and I talked about this.
Very, maybe over the weekend when we were walking roadie.
And it just said, it just still doesn't have an identity.
Like early on when we were, when I was living in Minnesota, we did, when it didn't have an identity in there,
we're thinking about doing different things.
We had, we did a podcast about what we think they should do or will do and bubble.
Yeah.
It has no, it still has no identity.
I watched YouTube's from early on when Eisner built that park and they had the back lot studio.
And they had the great, I mean, the great movie, right?
It was in a, didn't you feel like you didn't go early early on?
Did you?
No, but it was still had like, you felt like you, it had that Hollywood field.
Did it not?
It had the stunt spectacular.
Yeah.
Well, the lights motor action with the car.
Chases in it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The back lot tour, which was great where you had like the waterfall falling down on you and stuff.
And they only had half of that because the other half was where they had the all the houses like the golden girls where they used to shoot.
They didn't do shows back then.
So that's when they knocked all that down and did the lights motor.
Right.
So they shortened it.
That's what it was used to be like a two and a half, three hour traction, which was great.
Right.
But now it's like they had the catastrophe canyon and all that other stuff.
Unbelievable.
Yeah.
And that's all gone.
They had the, the street where they had the Osborne lights.
Yeah.
New York, New York, whatever they call it, New York street or Avenue.
I mean, there was nothing there, but it was still cool to walk around and be like transported.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Great movie ride made sense.
Even like Tower of Terror, even though it was didn't really fit, but it made sense.
It was like old Hollywood.
It was old Hollywood.
You're exactly right.
It told it complete.
I thought it did fit.
Because I think that street with a gift shop over there on the right as you're walking toward.
Tower of Terror was always a great gift shop.
Yeah.
And then they had actual animators and the animation courtyard.
Like you see it.
Yep.
For in all honesty, when it first opened, it was my favorite park.
Believe it or not.
Yeah.
Because magic kingdoms, magic kingdom, you outgrow magic kingdom.
You and I outgrow magic kingdom.
Some people.
I love, I always loved app cop, but there was something special.
About MGM studios.
Right.
No, I get it.
And they had like different stuff all the time because.
They would be shooting something there and then they'd have characters in the park based on it.
They had ninja turtles there for a while.
Roger Rabbit was.
Roger Rabbit was character there.
Yeah.
And.
I mean, I know Star Tours was one of the first things and they built that over there.
Yeah, that's an OG here.
But.
And I don't mind if they want to make it what it is, but it's not Hollywood studios.
It's just.
It's universe.
It's like islands of adventure.
You just go from one thing to another and it's fine.
Like they, they did a good job with the Star Wars.
It's not my favorite, but it's certainly immersive.
Yep.
Toy story lands.
Very good.
I'm sure what they're going to do with monster zinc is going to be very good when they.
Now that they've taken out Muppets and.
You know, like that was my favorite show.
Muppet vision 3d.
I know you're not a Muppet guy.
I'm a huge Muppet guy.
That was always my favorite.
It was a reason to go into Hollywood studios.
Now I walk by and I'm said.
That being said, that whole precursor leads up to us doing this 321.
And there's still some great attractions and some really good shows and some good restaurants there.
It's not a total waste of time.
It's just my least favorite.
And I just feel like.
I got like claustrophobic in that park.
I just feel like there's too much.
Dead end like.
I know there's not a lot of dead ends, but I feel like it's all dead ends there.
We ran into like some cast members and like.
Well, like how do we get?
We walked up and they blocked basically blocked us.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And like where are you trying to get to?
And I told them and it was like right next to it.
And they said, no, you have to go turn around, go the other way.
I'm like, so I have to walk around the entire frickin park.
To get to this area because it was closed off.
She's yeah.
Like there was no walking way.
You know how like it like.
It's open to Star Wars land.
We don't even know the name to correct name.
It's called galaxies.
It's called Star Wars edge.
Star Wars land.
And it's.
It's you're right.
There's so many bottlenecks because when I go through toy story.
I get completely turned around.
I have no idea where I am anymore.
Right.
It's tiny over there to us not even a big area, but it's just like off in the back corner.
Not my favorite place to be, but I still enjoy it to some extent.
I'll always go if I'm there for more than four or five days.
I'll go there for a day.
You know, you know how it's enjoyable.
It's when you stay at a Riviera or you stay at a boardwalk.
And you can jump and you can pop over there for a couple hours.
That to me is no longer a destination.
It's like Disney Springs.
Like we talk about.
If you stay if you're staying over near there.
Then by all means go over there.
If I'm staying at the Grand Floridian, I'm not going over to Hollywood studio.
I'm all set up.
Let's do Epcot and the Magic Kingdom.
Maybe hop over.
Like do a animal kingdom morning animal kingdom rope drop.
Hit a couple of their biggest attractions.
And then after you do the safari, get the heck out of there.
But I don't know.
Because that's a thing.
Obviously.
I don't love walking around Magic Kingdom.
But there's so many attractions and things to do that it's worthwhile going.
Right.
Yeah.
I love walking.
If you told me I couldn't do a single attraction.
It still go to Epcot because I love walking around Epcot.
Same with animal kingdom.
I don't I love walking around animal kingdom just taking it all in.
I don't need to do rides or shows there.
I just like how I feel and I'm there.
But Hollywood studios I get none of that.
You get the like there's nothing to look at when you walk around.
There's no shows anymore.
It's not fun to walk around and there's not a lot of attractions.
Okay.
We have a little fun about getting in line all the time.
Well, let's start.
You want to do your three attractions first.
And then I'll do mine.
Yeah, I'll start.
I'll start with a rollercoaster slinky dog dash.
You have yet to be on that correct.
That's one of our favorites.
I love that I like it so much more than.
Dundin mountain's always going to be the OG one of my favorites, but this is a
phenomenal for now. It's themed perfectly. The queue is beautiful. It's they did a fantastic job. Yeah.
Well, that's the thing. We just spent 10 minutes crapping on the park, but they have great rides.
They really do have more fantastic. Yeah, they just don't have enough.
Exactly. I mean, we're there when when Epcot said a two in Hollywood studios at a nine, you kind of scratch your head and say what's going on?
Well, because Hollywood studios has four attractions. That's the only reason why.
Yeah, every single one is a 90 minute wait because yeah, exactly.
So yeah, I'd say slinky dog dash. And then I'm going to jump over. I'm going to do, um, tower terror. Okay.
Okay.
Which I don't know about you, but I just get the adrenaline rush. And then I laugh all the time. I get I've always talked about how you get the two or three different emotions.
I've been really times. And when you get to the top and you hear the
my heart starts pumping. I'm like, but I bet on this six times. I know you still get like the hair on the back here.
That's still stand up. It's because you don't know what's going to happen.
Because it's random. You know what's going to happen, but you don't know when you don't know you don't know in my getting job now or am I getting dropped in four seconds?
And anticipation is what's so great about that. Yep.
And obviously the queue just walking up to it. It feels different. They do the fog machines and.
All the cob, like everything about it is just so great. It's themed so perfectly. The ride's great.
Every part of it, even the gift shop after it's nice. Like it's it's kind of never bought a thing in, but I always kind of fart around after I got that attraction.
Agreed.
Because it's got that hat that you would never wear. But you always put it on right. Yeah, you always try it on. It's so nerdy. Yeah.
So do I have one more attraction? Yeah, one more.
It's Toy Story midday, maybe that that used to be I never hated that. I never hated it. It was just back in the old fast pass.
It was never the A attraction for me. Right.
So I would never fast pass that because I could do rock and roll a coaster or tower a terror. And the wait times were always 90 minutes.
90 to 100. Don't you remember years ago it was always 90 to 100. Oh, yeah. At least 90 was short. 90 was short. So I would not wait that. Now I can always jump on in 35 minutes.
And that's just one of those things. Kristen and I love she has never beaten me.
If you always start off where she takes a 20,000 point lead and she's feeling good about herself. And we get to that 4th or 5th round. And then I just we look at the scores and she's like, you son of them.
And we just we just have so it's like two like teenage brothers and sisters like we just we talk crap. We have a lot of fun. We absolutely love that attraction.
It's great. And when it's not 90 minutes, it's not a bad cue either. No, it's it is Mr. Potato head. I mean, it's all the games that her and I played with. Right. No, if you played with many.
Oh, yeah. Clue and battleship and all that stuff. Yeah.
Did you have what was the other one? Was that called operation? Yeah, operations great. That was a great game.
All right. So my three attractions.
I did throw slinky dog dash on there because I haven't done it and that's very high on my priority list for my next trip.
Because I need to go on it. I've heard, you know, you've said so many good things. My wife likes it.
My parents like it. Everyone who's gone on it has said great things about it. I just haven't had the chance because my kids don't want to go on it.
So when we're there, I don't want to spend 70 minutes waiting to do a ride by myself.
There's no single ride aligned for that one. I guess I could buy a lightning lane if they had, but that doesn't have the individual. I'd have to buy the full day, right?
I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
I think that's what it is. But either way, just hasn't been in the cards yet. I'm going to make sure I'm going to try to do it this year. We'll see what happens.
But I know you've said great things. That's just a really smooth fun ride. So I want to do that.
The second one on my list is also Tower of Terror.
Okay. It's just classic. It's just so good. It's so good.
The problem with this episode parts is neither of us are Star Wars guys. Right.
Because like Rise of the Resistance is pretty good, but it's just lost on me. Remember when you and I went on it.
You didn't know whether or not you liked it. I was like, it was fine, but like what was it? I didn't know what anything was.
The technology is great on Rise of the Resistance.
And if you were a big Star Wars person, it's probably mind blowing. I'm sure. But for me, I was just like, okay.
There's all these people. I don't know who they are. Is this a bad guy? Is this a good like what's going on here?
And then you get to the end and you're outside and you're like, all right, get off the ride. I'm like, okay. That was good. I guess you think I think I actually it's probably sacrilegious to say, but I like start towards better than Rise of the Resistance.
I can see that. It's been years because she doesn't like us. Those delights. Yeah, it's too much. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
But so that's why like for us, the Star Wars stuff just isn't going to make our list. It's just not up there for us.
But Tower of Terror is just so classic. If they ever, I know you loved the Guardians of the Galaxy version of Tower of Terror in California.
They cannot change this one in Florida. They have to keep it the same.
I agree. If we've had this discussion, you can't you can't have both all the pocks marry each other because then there's no reason to go to the other ones.
Right. And plus they have the Guardians of the Galaxy ride NEPCOT. So they kind of got that already checked off regardless.
But that one is so much better over out there. It's whole much better. I don't know why. It's just a lot. It's just better.
I just love this one. I haven't been on that one. So I can't say even the old version I wasn't didn't go on.
I mean, her and I both got off it and we but the first thing we said to each other was that so much better than the one that they have in Florida. I mean, so.
That's crazy because I know when they were both Tower of Terror, everyone said the Florida version was way better because it was randomized and there's only like three versions of it in California and it's shorter or something.
Anyway, I think what it was was it was the music because that music gets you going. I mean, you know how that music is in your head.
Well, that's why the Guardians rollercoaster is so great. But I'm talking about it's a music part. So when you combine that with all the emotions you have from the Hollywood terror because there's nothing magical about how it just, you know, you just go up and down and it's the old Hollywood hotel.
But when you when you're combining the nerdiness from their movies and the music, it's just oh my god, it's so good. It's perfect.
The last attraction I have on my list is not even open yet and it is the rock and roller coaster featuring the Muppets.
I just said Muppets was my favorite thing about that park and they took them away.
And I like rock and roller coaster. Anyway, I think it's a great roller coaster.
They're not really they're not really changing anything. They're just taking away arosmith and adding the Muppets. So for me, that's a great upgrade because I like that. So I'm very much looking forward to going on that when it reopens.
Hopefully by the time I'm there in the summer, if not, it'll have to be the next time. But I really want to see how they do that because I do. I just love the Muppets so much and it's going to make it sillier.
But I'm fine with that because the ride's going to be the same. It's not going to affect that. Yeah.
It's going to be cool. They're going to play, you know, electric mayhem songs in the limos as opposed to arosmith songs. I think it's going to be a good upgrade. So I'm really.
Yeah, because I don't think you're going to have to hire. There's so many. No, it's not going to be that own rainbows.
Which would be a very weird. Yeah, it would be one of my favorite songs, but not a not really built for a roller coaster.
How about shows? What do you got for that?
I mean, let's just go with phantasmic, right? Yeah.
I mean, is it the best nighttime show they have in Orlando? Right. Yeah, in Orlando.
Yeah, I think so. I think so too.
I don't I didn't love harmonious. It's okay. Or whatever the new one is. I don't remember. That's what it's called now. And I don't really care about just straight up fireworks. Yeah, the happily ever after doesn't do it for me. I mean back when it was illuminations. I think illuminations hands down was the best. Yeah, nighttime spectacular. But no, I think.
I think you're right. I think it's the best over Hollywood studios. I think fans know what about what about the parade?
Is that better? I know that's not a show per se, but as far as nighttime attraction. Is that better than phantasmic? The new parade.
I'd have to see it again. I've only seen it once. So, but it's closer, right? You like it a lot. It's good. It's really good. Yeah, it's really good. You guys are going to love it.
And none of them touch world of color.
Well, the color is so good. Oh, my God. World of course, so good. Everything they do there is so much better. It just infuriates me. We can just table that. We can talk about that at a late a day. But everything they do there is so good, isn't it?
Yeah, I mean, I haven't been in 10 years, but or 12 longer than that. Yeah. Yeah.
What, um, what other show? Because I'm an OG. It's got to be the Indiana Jones stunt spectacular. I love that.
Yeah. You've still never been on that. Have you? I've been on it. Yeah. Okay.
We did it a couple of years ago when Mike senior and Mike junior came with one of those. I mean, I did it with our grandfather.
Right. I did it a million times with my mom. I've done it a million times with Susie. I've done it a number of times with your mom and dad. It's just.
It's one of those that if it goes away, it's long overdue. They can't do something in there. But for some reason, they just keep it around. It's probably a money thing. They don't want to spend the money. But.
In plus, it's a people leader. They get it really is a people in that. Yeah. For every time. Yeah. For that.
I mean, they still have. I still call it fast pass because I've never gotten. I've never paid for that. Yeah. Yeah. But they still have lightning lanes for that. Right.
So I regret to inform you that my two shows are the exact two you just picked. Really? You like the Indiana Jones stunt spectacular?
I liked it a lot. You tie it up the singalongs. I mean, the frozen ones find with the kids, but that's not my favorite. I was going to pick the villains one they have, but I haven't seen it. I don't know anything about it. That's over near rock and roller coaster.
They have like a villain show over there. There's like a building beyond rock and roller coaster. Oh, okay. It just started last year.
So if that's any good, I would put that on there. I don't know anything about it.
I mean, you didn't even know it existed. I could tell by your face.
But yeah, I mean, fantastic. It's just great. It's just so good. It's been. It's a joke in our family now because we've tried to do it.
The last time we've been to Hollywood. It just doesn't happen. What was what was the problem when when we were with you guys?
So we tried to sneak in one more. That's what it was. Run away real away.
And then we paid for the dining experience and they still sold it out. We got there 20 minutes before it started.
I said, sorry, it's sold out. I said, Oh, no, but we had the the past with dining. So I know, but you had to be here 40 minutes before. Well, that's not. It's not a fast pass at that point.
And then the last time we were there, it got canceled because of lightning in the area. Okay. It's understandable. Obviously sure.
It happens. And you're, you know, in Orlando in July, there's going to be lightning. You're going to have to deal with it.
So it's just the last three or four times we've tried to go. We just could not get into it. It's just a running joke with us.
And we only ever go to Hollywood studios once per trip. We don't go multiple times.
So just hasn't been meant to be lately for us.
I love it. My kids haven't seen it. They're going to lose their minds. It's such a good show.
They haven't seen it, huh? They've never seen it. Well, maybe your Gino when she was a baby, but she wouldn't remember it anyway, when she was like one or two.
It's been a while. I haven't seen it in a long time. I know they even changed some of it. That's all it's new to me.
And then like you said about Indiana Jones, it's just so campy, but they do a great job. It's literally a great production.
It really is. They do a hell of a job.
And especially I've come to appreciate those movies a lot more. I've watched them with my kids. They liked Indiana Jones movies. So they're into it when we went to see it.
Because we had just watched them together.
And they're like, I remember this part for the movie and. Yeah, yeah, cool to see that. And they're just such great. Those are just good action adventure movies.
And they're famed like there's a little bit of goryness to them. Yeah, but no, you're right.
Mile swearing with that. Yeah, but I'm super comfortable having my young kids watch it because there's nothing obscene, nothing like super sexual in it.
They don't make those kind of movies anymore.
Marvel ones like Guardians of the Galaxy is kind of in that because it's got the comedy to it. And it's the adventures, but there's just that like extra edge to it that it's, I don't know if I want my kids watching this.
Yeah, until they're 12 or 13 years old. You know what I mean? I do.
So they don't make those family adventure movies anymore that you're comfortable with all ages watching even PG like PG 13 now can be super raunchy, which oh really.
Yeah, I don't mind like I don't want super violence. I don't want my kids seeing that.
And then the raunchiness, I don't mind swears like swears don't bother me when I watch movies with my kids. I just explain to them, you know, don't say those words.
And they listen, at least in front of me, they don't say anything. So I don't know what they do on the school bus, but.
Yeah, it's the super violent and the super like graphic sexual stuff that I definitely want to avoid at this juncture.
And Indiana Jones hits the spot. They don't they don't venture too far off like you don't see someone getting stabbed or shot. You don't see like blood splattering every, you know what I mean? Yeah, it happens, but they don't show the graphic nature of it.
I mean, one of the greatest scenes is when the guys got the gun. Yeah, I mean, yeah, but like you said, you didn't see like the guy bleed now to whatever you just went.
Exactly. Yeah, exactly.
All right, now we're on to the best part is the restaurant.
Are you having this meal today after, after your long day at Hollywood studios?
I mean, are there a lot of choices? I mean, Mama Melrose is closed.
I'm going to one of my favorite, but it's Hollywood Brown Derby. It's so good underrated. It's just it really is. It's such a good restaurant.
People, oh, it's, it's a theme park restaurant. Oh, it's, it's overpriced. It's so good.
So what I'm going to say about Hollywood Brown Derby is I think it is the best signature at Disney if you combine the theming with the food.
It doesn't have the best food, but I think it has the perfect amount of theming that takes you to a different place that old Hollywood feel and the food delivers. It's really good food.
It really is the food's fantastic. I agree with you. The theme is amazing because all the other signatures are great and they feel like fancy restaurants, but it doesn't feel like it doesn't transport you somewhere else like Narcusi's beautiful.
But you could put that anywhere. Brown Derby has to be in Hollywood. You can't have that in the animal kingdom. That restaurant wouldn't make sense. Right.
You can put the Brown Derby in magic. It has to be an Epcot. You're sorry in Hollywood studio. It's not like you meant it. And it, and it's just perfect. And the food delivers the whole vibe of it is perfect. I think it's the most fun signature.
And you're not sacrificing the food to get that experience.
Like at Cinderella's royal table where you get this great experience and they just serve you slop because they got you stuck. This can do both. And that's that's why I like it so much.
Yeah, we've been a couple times. You've been a couple times. Obviously we ate together that one night when we were waiting for Kristen to meet us after work and.
Yeah, I love it. Love it. And I love the, and I love the patio. I love the bar. Oh, the lounge. Yeah, the lounge. They have.
They have some great menu items out there too.
That Cobb salad is just so good.
That's a nice thing. People say it's expensive, but if you go there for lunch and you order a cocktail and you get a couple Cobb salads and dessert, it's going to cost you 70 bucks for two people.
Yeah. And that's a menu item. It's not like you're cheap and out. It's not like you're ordering an appetizer. That's a full entree.
And that Cobb salad is so shareable where you could even split an entree. Like you said, you could be out 70, 70 dollars easily.
We've gotten sliders there. I mean, we've gotten so many. I love that place. Yeah. And then they have the fancier entries at dinner are fantastic.
That fish special the last time I went. It was one of them. I've never had it, Disney. I think we had to peel the skin. And I think it was Branzino. No, the skin was crispy. The skin was actually good.
Oh, you ate the skin. Yeah. But I mean, it had the bones, right? No. Oh, they flayed the bones too. Yeah, the bones are out just with skin on.
But the skin was super crispy. And it had, I think I had like a chorizo stuffing with it or something. It was really good.
Yeah. Granzino is a good fish. Isn't it? It was really good. Yeah. Yeah.
It was fantastic.
That being said, I, I wasn't 100% sure we would be the same on everything else. But I knew if I picked Brown Derby, we would be the same on that.
So I threw a little curveball and I picked a place that I think defined Hollywood studios.
And it's the 50s primetime cafe.
I think it just fits in there. Great. It's a fun family restaurant. Do you like that place? So I don't like the food, but I like the place. I love the place. I think it's great.
I like the lounge, the tune in lounge there that you can just kind of hang out.
I'd rather hang out in the lounge than restaurant, to be honest.
The lounge is so classic. Isn't it? It was 1950s, TVs. Yeah. So good. Like the four mica counters and everything. It's just great. I love it.
The whole restaurant is cool. The way staff the way they dress and the way they act and make you eat your vegetables and all that good stuff. It's perfect.
It's some of the old charm that they've kind of gotten away from. You're exactly right. Yeah.
And it's nice that it's still there. That's kind of the brand new. Yeah. That charm.
Consider that when they do the new stuff as much as they used to.
Because they can't charge for it. Yeah. They don't charge you extra for the for 50s primetime. Right.
It's just included in the price of the meal. Same thing with Brown Derby. So well, we don't have to do that.
It could be a lot worse and people still have to eat.
So that's why I went with the 50s because I figured those two restaurants really kind of.
It's such a good restaurant. Isn't a high end and you get the middle of the road and they both have that old school feel to it.
But I can't recommend Brown Derby enough. If you're in the parks and you want a nice break for an hour or so, you can't beat it.
Because I mean, on fact, the upstairs of that is the club 33 in Hollywood studios.
That would be a fun membership, wouldn't it?
That'd be really hard to justify. I mean owning DVC is hard to justify, but club 33 is really hard to justify.
And there's like a 20 year waiting list. It's crazy, isn't it? Oh, man.
I guess there must be so many people on there that like well, hopefully by the time our name comes up, we can afford it. Let's just get our name on the list.
You don't think they do vetting ahead of time. I don't know. I have no idea.
It's like getting packers season tickets. Don't people like sign their kids up the day they're born. So hopefully they can like get tickets by the time they're 40. Yeah.
Something like that.
All right. Hey, they else you want to add here for our 321 show?
Uh, no. I think considering we had almost identical list. I thought we had some pretty good discussion today.
We broke things down. We talked about the overall state of the park and things like that. I thought it was good.
I think we both did a hell of a job. Yeah. You especially, Mike. I'm proud of you. Thank you, bud.
