Welcome to the old-time radio westerns, I'm your host Angelines, and let's get into
this episode.
This episode is going to be Grand Old Opera, hope you enjoy.
It's Rainbow Opera Time, another big folk music show starring the Texas Provedor Ernest
Thub.
Oh, you tell me that you love me, yes, you tell me that you care, that tomorrow will
be married, but tomorrow never there, or tomorrow never comes, no tomorrow never
comes.
Oh, you tell me that you love me, but tomorrow never comes, oh, great in my soul.
Many weeks now have I waited, many long nights have I cried, just to see that happy
morning, when I had you by my side, but tomorrow never comes, no tomorrow never comes,
now you tell me that you love me, but tomorrow never comes.
Well, thanks and a great big had it to all of our good friends and neighbors of the Grand Old Opera.
Another big time here at the Rywin and Nashville Tennessee folks with rock brass feel, minute
pearl, the old hickory singers, string bean and the entire opera gang.
And as special icing on the cake and a mighty sweet icing, she has to miss Martha Carson.
Well, Martha's fixing to pick and sing just as soon as she's heard the latest gossip neighbors,
which is just like a woman by a cracket.
And here's the gal's addition after all of us, cousin mini pearl.
I'm just proud to be here.
Well, you know, I kind of like this here at the end of having a different feller ever said
it tonight to kind of head up the Grand Old Opera.
It kind of gives me a chance to let the field over and find out what's available.
I'll just look at them anyway.
You know, they're not all these strong, most of them are these strong rugged fellers like E-Tub here.
But I still got my hopes up because sooner or later we'll bomb to get a hold of one that's weak and willing.
Well, it's a dope.
And we ain't got much news around Grindr's Switch this year past week.
I've seen his this certain night and he told me that he's gambled all his money on going in the plumbing business.
Yes, he's just so excited about it.
It's all he coughs about.
It's kind of worried about the way it's affected him.
Now, every time I hold his hands, one of them's hot loved ones cold.
But we had a time last night at Grindr's Switch.
They had a church social and didn't nobody ask me too, but I think they needed some entertainment.
So I told them I'd sing if they wanted to.
So I done it.
And I got down there to eat supper last night.
I couldn't eat much because I've always shared tellers when folks are gonna perform.
They don't never eat nothing.
You know, before they performed.
So I didn't eat no supper.
And Mammy and brother and sister sat there and watched me not eat nothing.
And they ate.
But I didn't.
And when we got down there to the church, I just sang loud.
You know, when I got through Mammy says to brother says,
Well, how did you think she'd done?
He said she might as well eat.
But Mammy is speaking of singing.
What's this I hear about you being a big RCA Victor recording star now?
Well, I ain't no big RCA recording star.
Mr. Turb, but I have done a record here recently.
Oh, you did, huh?
Yes, sir, I did.
It's definitely I heard about that many.
And it tells me that one side of that record is a song.
The title, especially, is something that's very near and dear to your heart.
It sure is, aren't it?
It's called man.
Let's sing it.
All right, let's play.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
A man and a woman will play,
Whatever he is, we like him that way.
A man is a creature you can overlook.
It's easy to read as a lady in a book.
He'll boast and he'll brag off the woman he's fern.
But just like a sornov, his head can be turned.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
It's you.
Uh-huh.
It's you.
Uh-huh.
And strong as an ox, our meat is puffed.
He's just a small boy who has never rolled up.
In business, a leader, he'll be fine.
But when he gets home, he's under some moment's bum.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
It's you.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
A man, a man, and a woman will say whatever he is.
We like him that way.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
It's you.
Uh-huh.
It's you.
Uh-huh.
It's you.
It's you.
It's you.
You're that blame right.
Bad news!
Bad news!
Bad news!
Bad news!
Bad news!
Bad news!
Bad news!
Bad news!
Oh, God, that many pearls as natural as he can be.
Well, sir, we always look forward to having the nights of guests here on the opera with us,
and not just because she happens to be good-looking, a gal either, you know?
So it does help, I must admit.
No, so this young lady has talent of planning.
Here she is, neighbors, to sing for you right now.
Miss Martha Carson!
Miss Martha Carson!
Miss Martha Carson!
Miss Martha Carson!
Miss Martha Carson!
By the way, Martha, honey, where have you been picking and singing this past week?
Ernie, we've been away out in Texas.
Oh, my home state, huh?
That's right, and we sure had a good time out there.
Well, I know you did, honey, and I also know that the folks enjoyed hearing you sing out there, too.
Just as we're going to enjoy listening to Martha Carson's own special version of singing on the other side.
Gonna lay down my burden, and down by the riverside.
And by the riverside, I make them by the riverside,
what am I for?
I don't know, I'm panning, I'll be singing on the other side.
We'll be called deep by his spirit, and my work on earth is all.
When I reach the bank, little Jordan, I'll be singing on the other side.
No, hello, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
When I reach the bank, when I reach the bank, I'll be singing on the other side.
And by the riverside, I make them by the riverside, what am I for?
When I cross easily cars, when my song on earth has ended, I'll be singing on the other side.
In the over-emptive stations when the world my faith has tried, when I see heaven's
portal is glory, I've decided to fight, I'm a loser, I'm a loser, hey, hey, hey, hey,
hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,
I think the louder it is, the louder it is still arriving,
the louder it is Even the louder it kops, I see I'm lonely,
I'm mad and I crawl off at Willie's hodge, when my song on earth has researched
everything in obvious display,
when my song adapts, I'll be singing of you the sound
When I meet my attorneys here, I'm gonna lay down my first, when I cross that chewy time,
when my song on her path needs to be singing, all the other styles,
all the other styles, all the other styles, my first and last, down by the river side,
down by the river side, down by the river side, all the way my third and the seventh,
put on my roller cram and I'll be singing, all the other styles, all the other styles,
Martin don't go away because we want to hear more just a little bit later on.
Meanwhile, let's everybody dance. Here's Tommy Jackson,
do the seven-on-wag up through and lose children to do the comics.
The next one of my special favorites entitled, What a Friend we Have.
We have a great time.
Well, the next one of my special favorites entitled, What a Friend we Have.
And titled, What a Friend we Have in Jesus.
What a Friend we Have in Jesus.
All our sins and griefs today.
What a privilege to care.
Everything to God in praise.
Oh, what peace we often far bear.
Oh, what needless pain we bear.
All because we do not care.
Everything to God in praise.
And we find a friend so faithful.
Oh, well, all I sorrow share.
Jesus knows that every way.
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
You know, Claude Sharpen, the old Hickory singer, sang the old songs in the good old-fashioned way.
My quartet right now singing.
Oh, you beautiful doll, boy.
I leave here, won't you do.
Just turn out the light, make them over here.
And so close, up to my side.
My hearts are far.
We'd love this heart.
Be my heart's rest complete.
Can we thought the light could ever be so sweet?
Can I mend you some time or hope?
But now you know, I love you so.
Oh, you beautiful doll, you great, big, beautiful doll.
Let me put my arms up about you.
I can never live without you.
Oh, you beautiful doll, you great, big, beautiful doll.
If you ever need me, I'm a heart today.
I want to hurt you better, feel you break.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, you beautiful doll.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, you beautiful doll.
Well, seeing I've had the good fortune to tour
a large portion of this country of ours
with this next fellow, and believe you me,
he's as much fun to be with on a trip
as he has every Saturday night along about now.
So here he is, neighbors, the one and only Rod Brassfield.
Well, thank you, thank you, thank you, man.
I appreciate that they're fine.
You ready Mr. Turb?
Hi Rodney.
Glad to see you.
Thank you so much.
And you know something Mr. Ernie?
Yeah, what's that?
It's called a cold.
Oh, no.
A cold and all night long, I give her a full-way cold tablet.
No, no, wait a minute, Rod.
You gave your hand full-way cold tablet.
That's right Mr. Ernie.
What happened?
This morning she laid a square egg.
No, no, Rod.
How did she lay a square egg?
It wasn't easy.
Say, Rod, did you get that glove
that your girlfriend Suzy knitted for you?
That glove?
Yeah.
Yeah, I sure did, Ernie.
Then it come in handy down there on the farm, buddy.
I'm telling you something.
No, I'm curious about that, Rod.
What would you want one glove on the farm for?
To put on the towel to keep the milk warm.
I'll tell you that old cow was just about to freeze today, Ernie.
It's the truth.
My hard hand had to put a muffler around her neck.
Yeah.
And I blank it around her shoulder.
Uh-huh.
And trousers on her hind legs.
No, no.
Wait a minute, Rod.
With trousers on, how could he milk the cow?
Well, he used to be a pig puffer.
Old.
Oh, that's a good one, Rod.
Rod.
You know, farming is a real tough way to earn a living though.
It's glorious now.
You can see that again, Mr. Toby.
It's glorious.
But I'll tell you what, I'll be a rich man if I succeed
with my animal experimentation.
Now, what kind of experimentation are you doing, Rod?
I'm going to thank you for that.
That's an awful big word for me to be able to get in here.
I don't know.
I've heard it in the whole and more post office.
I thought I'd use it.
I'll tell you what, I'm crossing the cow
with a kangaroo and an octopus.
Not in the way, Mitt Rod.
Let me get this straight.
You're crossing the cow, a kangaroo, and an octopus.
I tried, Mr. Toby.
What do you expect to get?
A cow that cares her own bucket and milks herself, too.
But I'll tell you, one day I'll be the richest man in Tennessee, Mr. Toby.
The richest man in Tennessee.
Now, wait a minute, Rod.
I think you're attaching too much importance to money.
Yes, sir.
Remember, money can't buy you happiness, health, love.
And look, Mr. Toby, you just give me the money
and I'll do my own shopping.
Oh, Mrs. A. Rod, I want to just what would you do
if you had a lot of money?
I'd marry my damn shoes.
Oh, you are.
That's my bad, that's my gross power.
Speaking of shoes, Rod, do you remember the first time you met Suzy?
Oh, I sure do.
I never forget it.
I was delivering a load of sheep to their farm
and she was flopping the hogs.
Oh.
Oh, she really stood out.
I'll never forget it.
Ernest, I took her for a ride last night.
You know what you're doing?
No.
I told her without a gas and she slapped my face.
Oh, Rod.
You mean Suzy slapped your face just because you told her
you were out of gas?
Yeah, you see, we was riding the bicycle.
Oh.
Oh, me, that Rod, you just won't do.
My favorite, how would you like to hear another song
by Miss Martha Carson, huh?
Give it a hand.
What was the honey?
What would you like to sing for a sister?
Well, Ernest, we picked one of our old-time favorites tonight.
I'm going to walk and talk with my low.
Oh, I'm going to walk and walk in my low.
Oh, I'm going to walk and talk with the low.
Oh, she's the lily out of daddy.
He's the right animal to start.
I'm going to walk and talk with my low.
I'm going to walk and talk with my low.
Oh, I'm going to have a little, same color.
Oh, blue me.
And I will make you happy.
It's you just about to meet me.
So I'm going to walk and walk with my low.
O mister Duro Poque le pass'
Its 축, my Lord
And My Lord
The In-Man heart is lost
I'm Duro Poque le pass'
O mister Duro Poque le pass'
With My Lord
It's So Low
I'm in peace, with regulation can be burdened with disgrace, but in my calling here
it's over, I've no TVP and race, so I'm going to walk and walk with my love
I'm now going to walk and walk with my love, with my love hero, the way my burden
but in my heart it's over, I'm going to walk and walk with my love
I'm now going to walk and walk with my love hero

I like to dedicate my about it tonight especially for them
one of my favorites we have on deck of records and titles Driftwood on the River
I'm just Driftwood on the River floating down the tide
I don't care whether so river carries me
I keep drifting just because my heart is broken inside
and I'm tired of wishing for what can I be
I made me some bit of Driftwood lost the same as I
chair a handshake and attend a tea or two
but it's always good luck pal we've got to say goodbye
I must wander on to keep my rendezvous
I'm just Driftwood on the River and I'm drifting off
till this weary river meets a deep blue sea
well a deep blue sea may help me to forget someone
yes the careless one who has forgotten me
in my heart I don't feel bitter over what has been
I feel sorry for the one I must forget
and instead of being someone with the world away
I'm just Driftwood on the River of regret
