Welcome back to the podcast on ebnewsdaily.dachia's new spring moves out of China.

German ebglyss, up 75% and Kia embraces the GT. Plus stay tuned because later in the show, I'll tell you why Vehicle to Grid got a tiny step closer today. Over on our spin-off podcast, that's ebnewsshina. Today, we are talking about how ebgs or anybgs as they are there, hitting a record 65.2 share of new cars. Zika makes a couple of 100,000 7Xs and Denzer plans a cheaper Z9 GT. Alright, let's get into it then. Dachia has moved their spring production to Slovenia. Dachia has unveiled their new second generation spring. It's bigger and better in pretty much every way than the outgoing one. And they've moved the production as well for good reason. Their shifting production from Wuhan in China to Renault's Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia. Now prices will start say Renault of the new Dachia spring, 17,900.

So a smidge under 18,000, that's euros, by the way. Probably French or German pricing, about $21,000. Dachia says the entire range will cost less than 20,000 euros. That's before any kind of government incentives where you may be listening. The new spring is due in the UK in the first half of next year, has four seats certified for 155 miles and an expected starting price of below 18,000 pounds, although that is a lot more than the existing outgoing spring. But you do get more car. European production will make the spring eligible for subsidies restricted to European made vehicles. And it will avoid European Union tariffs on Chinese made EVs. Now places like France have a program for low-income car buyers. And that currently excludes the current Chinese built spring, even though that would be a very, very cheap car. If it did get that monthly bonus ecological as they have in France.

Now the spring is leaving Chinese production, but it's not leaving Chinese engineering. Dachia says Renault Group's Shanghai EV R&D center, which is called get this ACDC. Completed the engineering for the critical powertrain components on the new spring, which uses Renault's platform. It's called the RG EV. Renault Group EV, that's their platform. You won't be surprised to hear single motor on this 60 kilowatts. And not the biggest of batteries, 27.5 kilowatt hours. CATL, pack, LFP, chemistry, WLTP, like I say, about 250 kilometers equivalent. Now, I'll charge natively on AC. So 6.6 kilowatts AC charging is standard. DC charging is an option, 50 kilowatts. That's a 10 to 18 30 minutes. I'm not convinced about putting charging options on the options list when these vehicles become second, third hand, I think it's really complicated. But either way, they did it to strip out price. And let's hope it's worked.

Ordering open September 15 in five days. Dachia, scheduled initial deliveries. Surely before the end of this year, Dachia sold 210,000 springs in Europe over the last five years. And they plan for four new EVs. They are electrifying their lineup. By 2030 now. Let's go to Germany. Where? As Europe's largest, once again, largest EV market. Bev sales are on the up. In fact, they're rising 75% in August. German BV sales, surging 75.1% to V-specific last month in August. Compared to the same time last year, they sold 68,930 units, lifting their market share from a 19 share last year to a 32.4 share in August this year in Germany. The wider new car market grew as well, but only 2.6%. So BEVs easily outgrowing the wider car market. In Germany, Bev sales reached 515,000 units in the first eight months of this year in Germany.

That's up 53% on the first eight months compared to last year. The share rose from 18 to 26 share on the year so far. So smoothing out the ups and downs of the monthly figures, it's a 26-beauf share in Germany. Volkswagen remained. You won't be surprised to hear Germany's leading brand. Mercedes, BMW, Schroder and Audi retained the next four places, leaving the top eight or actually unchanged from July this year. Several smaller brands have grown faster. And when I say smaller brands, I mean obviously the Chinese brands. BYD sales up 372% year on year. They're now 13th in the German auto market with a 2.5 share. Expung sales up 311% year on year leap motor up 172.9%. Obviously from low basis, so you can make the percentage figures look more impressive. All right, let's talk Kia. And they've got all GT on us, Kia putting the EV3, EV4, EV5 GTs on sale in Europe.

Adding to an electric GT line, not the GT line, that's a trim line. Anyway, adding to an electric GT cohort that already included the EV6 GT and EV9 GT, EV6 GTs, proper reengineering cracking car. The range now covers hatchback or fastback body styles, compact SUVs, mid-size SUVs, big old three row SUVs. If you want yours to come with a bit of extra punch. Now, it's not a broader choice everywhere, though. The EV4 GT fastback, that won't be sold in the UK. Kia has no plans to launch the EV4 or 5 GT in the United States. Either the three new models use the same tech specs. So, Julemo to all-wheel drive is kind of a given in a GT spec, it's like Hyundai's N trim. And so that's the big pack they've got, 81.4 kilowatt hours. They have electronically controlled suspension. Kia says that improves handling, response, and performance.

There's the neon green brake calipers, so people will see you coming and stopping. The 20-inch alloys semi-bucket sports seats, a GT steering wheel, a new digital interface as well, and Kia's, they have the, they call it the virtual gear shift and active sound design, which reproduces the sounds and sensations of an internal combustion sports car. If you really don't like going fast in a car without some room, room noises, I guess, it takes all sorts, I turn those things off, but actually the way that Hyundai ain't here, it's not the worst, if that makes sense. Now, Ford are considering a compact vehicle for their UEV platform. That's what's going to come underneath from the basis of the Fathom, their mid-size pick-up, which is coming first. Ford is considering, though, a compact vehicle on its UEV universal electric vehicle platform, which the company says can support something approximately the size of a Ford Fiesta. Whispers that quietly. Such a model would return

Ford to the small car segment. There's no B segment car available in places like the United States right now. And the automotive market for 2026 Ford is, yeah, I mean, they're out of sedans, they're out of small cars over here as well. The Fiesta, I mean, the Fiesta's legendary in our car market. And what have you got in terms of a small 40-year-old, a Puma Gen E in electric? During a recent Q&A session, Ford said the platform could support body styles from a B-car size up to a commercial van. They didn't say we're bringing the Fiesta back. I'm just joining some dots here, but a compact vehicle on the UEV platform would enter a market that has shared many of its smaller cars from the traditional car makers. Ford discontinued the Fiesta in 2019. The Honda Fits in the US, Nissan Versa, Chevy Sonic, Mitsubishi Mirage. They've all left the market and over here as well. In Europe, there are some really small Chinese cars. Obviously, I've got the small French cars like the Renault 5. I've been talking about the

Dacia spring as well, but I think they would do brisk business with an all-electric Fiesta. The platform may be ready, but Ford are not to announce anything with any concrete terms yet. Hey, talking to Ford, by the way, weird story, kind of a political story, a storm in a teacup, do you think? And that is Ford being urged to reconsider or end its Chinese dealings and Chinese partnerships. There's a chap who is the US transportation secretary called Sean Duffy, and he has written to Ford's CEO Jim Farley to ask him to reconsider or end completely any dealings with Chinese companies. Sighting Ford's C80L licensing deals make LFP packs in the US, the Glee arrangement, the BYD discussions going on, China production of the Lincoln Nautilus, and a proposed framework for Chinese US joint ventures. His two-page letter was dated September 3rd, and it was released to the media yesterday. Now, what is the point of this? Because Tesla,

their business is based in Shanghai for export and a huge part of Tesla's business, didn't ride to them. GM have huge joint ventures in China, didn't ride to them. This warning carries political weight, if you like, but no regulatory force, it proposed no sanction, and the DOT, Department of Transport, has no direct authority to determine an automaker's partnerships and sourcing arrangements that has nothing to do with the United States. Mr Duffy said the department remains deeply alarmed by Ford licensing C80L and Chinese IP. For their battery tech, that is the blue oval battery park in Marshall, Michigan. There's no Chinese boots on the ground. There might have been some Chinese in the US to train up American workers or get the plant up and running. They are now assembling Lithium-Ion phosphate LFP battery cells and ramping up production as well. C80L has appeared on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. For a year and a half now, as January 2025, they put them on. The list C80L is the world's biggest

EV battery maker. Ford said the plant is owned, controlled and staffed by Ford and Ford in place, and that is indeed true. It's not a Chinese plant on US soil. They are licensing Chinese IP. Also not an idea that the Chinese are wild about because it takes Chinese tech over to America. But in the way, Ford has seemed to not be able to win with this deal. Ford called the letter a wrong-headed attempt to capture headlines, which was I think the polite way of putting it. It pointed to mixed messages, the Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik praising Ford's Lincoln production plan and the White House. Only days ago praising the Michigan battery plant for creating US jobs on US soil just days before this letter was shared. Yes, something in a brewery. I suppose it's the phrase. Let's move on. We'll talk a little bit about Chinese cars entering Australia and the electric show in a moment back in a second. Hey, it's Kelly Rowland. You may not know this, but I have Exama. So I get how it can still your time.

But why let Exama take over when you can talk to your doctor about Eppglus? Eppglus, lubricism app LBKZ, a 250-mg per 2-ml injection, is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 12 years of age and older, who weigh at least 88 pounds or 40 kg, with moderate to severe Exama. We'll also make it's Australian public debut at everything electric Sydney. Great wall motor, GWN, will reveal the Haval H7 and the Canon lugging hybrid. Described as two or new models. While Cadillac will show off the Lyric V, the V is described as Cadillac's quickest model ever. It's going to be a great show. You're going. Let me know. I'd love to know. A semi-an-email or a message on patreon.com slash EV news. Lepass, or Lepass, which is a portmanteau of leopard and passion, apparently, is previewing the mid-size L6 and the compact L4 both EVs. Zika is confirming Aussie specs for the 7 GT. That GT is their grand tourer. Now, those cars like the Lyric V, among several performance-focused vehicles, expected to be displayed alongside the magma version of the Genesis GV60, also being displayed. That actually had its Aussie launch. That was back in July in the summer. Or the winter, I should say. Exhibitors

include BYD. You won't be surprised to hear. Cadillac, Cherry, Verizon, GAC, Glee. Genesis, I've mentioned, Great Wall Motor, Hyundai Icar, IM Motors, Leipass, or Leipass MG, or Moda J-Coo. They're doing good business here in the UK. Polestar, Subaru, Zika and more. Everything Electric Sydney is scheduled to run at the Sydney show ground from September 18th to the 20th. That should be a brilliant show. If you're going along, let me know. There's always loads of great social content from the Australian Everything Electric shows. If you are going along, you see some good content online on a YouTube channel. Let me know on patreon.com slash EV news. Talking of Lyric, by the way, I saw this story come across the EV news desk today. Lyric models are getting CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2027 model year, Cadillac Lyric models that list Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment and now showing up on the Cadillac configurator,

making the vehicle an exemption to General Motors' general policy, which is an EV infotainment policy that rejects Apple. Now, I don't use it a huge amount, but I know people who swear by it when it's easy and it's wireless Apple CarPlay and they're in the ecosystem and it works. GM announced back in 2023, they're removing Apple CarPlay from future EVs and they would remove Android Auto as well, owners of other GM EVs that phone mirroring applications like that. There is a third party option. This is not an advert for them by the way and I've never tried it, so maybe don't. But N Gadget, the website, has published articles before back. It's called EVPlay LT and it provides wide and wireless phone mirroring for Chevy GMC and Cadillac adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, not natively, obviously, but it's a paid thing. It's a couple of hundred dollars for EVPlay LT. But no subscription fees, which is nice, which is welcome these days because everything's a

subscription, but I haven't used it or even seen it reviewed properly by anyone I know and trust and my friends. So maybe don't go out and buy it just on the strength of me talking about it, but or wait and get a new lyric with it natively. Maybe that's a bit of a you turn that we haven't been told about. Now Volkswagen plans a long wheelbase ID buzz cargo van, Volkswagen plans the new long wheelbase ID buzz cargo with more load space, but a lower payload than the short wheelbase van. Why is that? Is it saggy in the middle because it's a long wheelbase? Didn't they strengthen it? I'm only joking. Half joking, actually. Why is it got a lower payload? More room in this case doesn't mean more weight. Maybe it's something to do with the rules and regs of weights because it's going to be heavy vehicle anyways, and it with the battery. Total weight, gross vehicle weight. Cargo capacity 4.4 cubic meters up from 3.9 in the short wheelbase or standard, I should say, cargo version, depending on configuration, maximum payload, 697 kilograms. Yes, so this

dependent on configuration is a weight thing, isn't it, with the overall vehicle? Because the short wheelbase is 750 kilograms. The ID buzz cargo long wheelbase is 5 meters long. It's about 30 centimeters or 12 inches more than an ID buzz short wheelbase. Maximum load length goes from 2.2 meters to 2.4 and a bit meters, which is useful. Loads of stuff I get from being cute or the DIY stores. It's always 2.4 meters long. Yeah, by some new bit of wood. It's always 2.4 meters. So that's useful. There's obviously a method to the madness. Volkswagen already offers a long wheelbase version of the ID buzz with seats inside. Its planned cargo version is a response to larger, commercial vans coming to the likes of Kia, a Kia preparing the launch of the PV7, a larger counterpart to its PV5 electric van. We've seen that on the road and camouflage and that's getting much closer and I think that will be a bit more of a workhorse, a bit less focused on moving people around. I'm sure there'll be a big mini bus version of it. Inside the buzz, back to the buzz, I should say the big battery, 86 kilowatt hours available, WLTP 300, around 300 miles. The

standard buzz has a 79 kilowatt outpack, not that different, and WLTP at 700, sorry, definitely not, 277 miles. I tell you why won't be long. Solid state battery, 700 miles that'll be. I'm just predicting the future. It wasn't a mistake. Just looking forward. Now let's talk about this. Should we have a scrapage scheme for old diesel? 83% of dealers say yes, a UK scrapage scheme to help electric vehicle sales. One, the support of 83% of car dealers surveyed for the September start line used car tracker. 6% said UK governments should not get involved in the EV market and intervene with funding and subsidies and things like that. The tracker found that 60% of dealers thought that the government should indeed promote EV adoption. 61% said EVs needed to be as affordable as possible. Yes, obviously, 26% said prices weren't unaffordable for too many people. And 21% of dealers asked. Sited the number of older polluting vehicles on UK roads, really interesting

bit of data I bought you. Maybe last week, if I can put it in the show notes, I will. Last week on the podcast that said even taking off a nearly new petrol and diesel car is still more green because I've always gone along the lines of, well, the most the greenest car is the car that's already built. Let's carry on using it. The new data came out that said retaining current cars on the road, even if they are efficient, modern petrol and diesel still worse than taking them off the road and replacing them with a pure bed that's charged on green power, which is interesting. We have had scrapage here before. Have you where you're listening around the world? Nearly 400,000 vehicle orders received support from the US government scrapage scheme, which is easy for me to say. That was 2009. According to the society of motor manufacturers and traders, around 70% of vehicles bought through the scheme were additional sales that wouldn't have occurred. Yes, they bought that back and said, we're offering money, government money off a new EV. If you traded a no diesel, we still have one in the driveway we use for dump runs

because it won't get our nice cars dirty. It's not worth anything anymore. The London-wide ULEZ scrapage scheme removed or upgraded more than 53,000 polluting vehicles and got there to their environmental targets before closing in September 2024. Scrappage schemes are potentially one way to get old dirty polluting cars off the road. You have to often have to have owned them for a period of time and listen, hoops to jump through, but it's good. Now let's talk about this final story. By-directional DC charging. You heard me correctly. Hoy Miles, Chinese company, released their vehicle to X, so vehicle to home vehicle to group, DC Charger yesterday. It's 22 kilowatts DC. The Chinese energy storage provider, Hoy Miles, says bidirectional operation, which allows your EV to serve as the energy resource for your home, or even the grid is now getting easier. Through their vehicle to home technology, the Charger will

provide backup power when the grid is unavailable, according to Hoy Miles. The company says their vehicle to grid enables households to take part in peak shaving. That's often virtual power plants, supporting the grid, and certain times of the day, maybe when everyone gets home and cooks their dinner, your EV can take some of the strain. The Charger can draw power directly from PV systems, because solar panels solar PV generates in DC. So it hasn't got to go via the inverter. I have a solar-age system that stores everything because from DC to DC in the battery. There's an integrated EU-MID certified meter providing what Hoy Miles describes as accurate energy measurement for monitoring and energy management, ready for the EU. They specify peak efficiency of 97% in both directions, charging and discharging, and it's a DC. 22 kilowatt DC. When you see 22 kilowatt, you just think they're talking about 22 kilowatt AC, which is three phase. But no, this is DC home charging. The company gives an input

voltage range of either 240 up to 980 volts. We're on 240 volts here, for instance, on single phase, an outputting between 200 and 1,000 volts. So whatever EV you've got, it'll charge it, whether it's a lower high voltage platform. During discharge to your house, it's either a 300 volts to 1,000 volt DC discharge at the input, they say, and then 240 volts to your house. Which is brilliant. You know what I'm missing? That would be the pricing or whether we can get well, but I'd be very interested. DC charging at home. Okay, tell me more. Premium partners of the podcast, a national car charging on the US mainland and the low-hard charge in Hawaii, and Test-TV, Avaloo's trusted partner for independent EV battery health testing in Australia and New Zealand. Have a good cinema, and remember this no such thing as a self-charging hybrid. Capital One's tech team isn't just talking about multi-agentic AI. They already deployed one.
