One Poem Only is a daily poetry podcast offering a quiet moment with a single poem—read aloud, without analysis or noise.
After an endless winter
the spring has finally come,
a reminder,
that all things will pass
eventually.
In defiance, nature remains
guarded by tall tree
and howling wind.
The beauty of the forest
is untarnished.
Frostbitten or sun kissed
upon doorstep, or far, far away
travellers and explorers
old and new
are welcomed in
in equal measure.
These whispers from the woods call:
Come.
Sit a spell.
Breathe in the good air.
Calm mind and soothe body.
It’s peaceful here,
but never lonely,
still but ever-changing,
eternal yet new-born,
respectful, if respected.
It’s time to reconnect.
Mother Earth
has waited long enough.
She wonders when we will realise
that every day is different
when you stop and look up.
So, look up.

Write After with One Poem Only
Write After is a way to encourage poets to listen and write, and use National Poetry Month to highlight how listening to poetry makes us better poets. I know I write the best when I’m surrounded by beautiful poetry–it’s part of the reason I created this podcast, and I want to encourage others to share this practice. If you want to join: Listen to a poem from the month of April on One Poem Only, then write your own in response. I will pick one for each day to read in June for a special series: One Poem After 🍎🍏 Submissions close May 15.
