Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and work for those who take refuge in you in the sight of the children of mankind. We have a snack jar in our counter filled with tasty and healthy snacks. Our boys know they can grab a snack before a long car ride or after getting home from an excursion. They race to the jar to pick their favorite snack. They never doubt there will be good things in store and mama's snack jar.
Since becoming a parent, I've glimpsed how God's faithful abundance is given to us, which reminds me of Jesus' rhetorical question. If parents being evil give good things to their children, how much more does God richly bless us with His goodness? Consider our human goodness as a parallel to God's heavenly goodness. We provide food and clothing for our children. We prepare home to keep our children safe and warm. We prefer our children favoring their company and growing relationships with them. God is often depicted as a parent, our Heavenly Father. As we care for our children, how much more does He prepare, provide for, and favor us? My children aren't aware of how we work to care for them. Sometimes they balk at the protective boundaries. They resist the healthy foods, the bed times, or even the reminders to wear a warm coat and hat on a chilly day. But even when they can't appreciate, we faithfully provide. I know my daily administrations to my children are for their good.
Most of the time, my children don't say thank you, and it's not usually out of ungratefulness, but out of their simple, childlike trust that their parents will provide for them. They have no fear of scarcity, no thought for where they'll sleep at night. They don't question it, they know it. The snack jar will be filled, the dinner will satisfy. And no matter the wrong done, they can snuggle up under my arm at night. Why? Because that's all they've ever known. Knowing our goodness enables them to trust they'll always be cared for. And when we know God's goodness, we can live satisfied that He is faithful to provide. Satisfaction is determined by dwelling place. Are you dwelling in a life built on scarcity mindset? Fearing there won't be enough? Doubting whether you can provide for your own needs? We are stunted in our ability to provide fully for our own comfort and satisfaction. But God's cupboards are never bare. He's prepared a heavenly place, provided spiritual food,
and prefers our company by dwelling right within our hearts. Living God's house where His presence brings fullness, joy, and comfort. Let's pray. Lord, thank You for taking thought from my tomorrows. Help me to trust Your goodness is already stored up for me that Your faithfulness has already provided well in advance. Let me draw closer to You and truly dwell in the comfort only You provide. In Jesus' name, amen. As part of our fruit of the Spirit prayers and everyday prayers for the school year book club, Tara Cole and I created a free car conversations guide for your family to use this fall. The car is sometimes the best place for our most precious conversations with our kids. As we are praying through the fruit of the Spirit, our hope is that you can have meaningful conversations with your kids about what living out these fruit looks like in their daily lives. Tara and I created a series of quick questions.
As she wrote some for the older kids, I wrote some for younger kids, and we share a prayer that you can share with your children about each of the fruit of the Spirit. Download your copy for free on our website or the link in our show notes. Until next time, friends. The Lord bless you and keep you. Make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace. You're tired of parenting advice and news headlines that are more confusing than assembling IKEA furniture. We've got just the podcast for you. My dear friend Abby and I are here to help you navigate the parenting roller coaster. Should your kids be on social media? What should you tell a friend facing an unplanned pregnancy? These are just some of the many questions you tackle on our podcast. Subscribe to the real deal of parenting wherever you find your podcast.
